Go To

A school assignment about careers sends Louise spiraling, trying to imagine what her future might hold.

What About Tropes?:

  • Actor Allusion: In Gene’s story, Dr. Yap is a regular doctor instead of a dentist. His voice actor is actually a medical doctor.
  • Adaptational Nationality: In-universe; Gene in Tina's story is British, because he isn't Gene, but a British Butler who looks like Gene.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Jimmy Jr. is the Big Bad of Tina's story, with Zeke as his right-hand man. When Louise actually questions her on this, Tina claims it's because she's mad at Jimmy Jr. because he wouldn't share gum with her.
  • Adventurer Archaeologist: Louise in Tina's story is a treasure hunter looking for an unreleased Boyz 4 Now song. She's even dressed like Indiana Jones (and named Louisiana Jones-Belcher for good measure).
  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: Bob doesn't seem sure whether to depict Louise as a biologist or a chemist before settling on depicting her as a biochemist.
  • Brick Joke: In Gene’s story, Jocelyn (one of Louise’s coworkers at Louise’s data organization cover job) invites Louise to come to the chicken-finger place to get shrimp. In Bob’s story, Jocelyn (who is one of Louise’s coworkers at the lab) invites Louise to come to a taco shop to get pizzas.
  • Brown Note: The unreleased Boyz 4 Now song in Tina's story makes people pee, poop and barf all at the same time until they explode. Jimmy Jr. plans to broadcast it all over the world and destroy humanity.
  • Call-Back:
  • Caught Monologuing: In Tina's story, Louise coaxes Jimmy Jr. into explaining his evil plan and tampers with the controls of his Boyz 4 Now doomsday machine while he's talking.
  • Character Shilling: Tina opens her story by hyping up her own character.
  • Diabolus ex Machina: In-Universe. Bob's story for Lousie starts off really normally until somehow her attempts to help cows have babies again makes enemies out of the government, something which she questions when it happens out of the blue.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Tina telling her story with Jimmy Jr. exploding through farting is seen as this by the rest of the Belchers. She can only retort about him not sharing his gum with her as an excuse.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Millie was always something of a G-rated yandere for Louise, but Gene's story removes whatever subtlety was there.
  • Extreme Doormat: Averted when Linda is nearly tricked by Louise to help her with her assignment, but played straight when she completely falls for Gene's state capitals assignment.
  • Follow in My Footsteps: Averted with Bob. He acknowledges and understands that his kids might not want to take over his restaurant, so in his story the restaurant closes after Bob and Linda retire while their now-grown children head off to pursue their own careers. While his story does end with the kids reopening the restaurant, Bob makes it clear that they only decided to do that for fun and reassures his real-life kids they can do whatever they want with their future careers.
  • The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You: During the credits, the forbidden Boyz 4 Now song begins playing and a warning flashes telling the viewers to stop watching.
  • Funny Background Event: While at Rudy's Smoothies in Tina's story, the menu behind the characters reads "small regular size", "medium regular size" and "large regular size". (Rudy is known as "regular-size Rudy", as opposed to another classmate who is "pocket-size Rudy".)
  • Hitman with a Heart: Louise in Gene's story is a cold-blooded assassin (except she gives wedgies instead of killing people), but she retains a soft spot for Rudy, to the point that the plot is motivated by her seeking revenge on Millie for giving Rudy a nearly-fatal wedgie.
  • Insistent Terminology: Gene's story is very insistent that Louise and Rudy are just Platonic Life-Partners (and roommates). Tina's story also does the same, except they're ex-roommates instead.
  • In-Universe Catharsis: Tina makes Jimmy Jr. the villain in her story because she’s mad at him for not sharing his gum with her. When Tina adds Jimmy Jr. as her handsome farmhand in Bob’s story and Louise points out that Tina is mad at him, she admits that making him explode at the end of her story made her feel better.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The episode title is a reference to What About Bob?.
  • Pyromaniac: In Bob’s story, Louise starts community college as an undeclared major student, but eventually decides to study biochemistry because she likes being able to use the bunsen burners. The real-life Louise concedes she does like the idea of being able to use bunsen burners.
  • Running Gag: Rudy and Louise are constantly referred to as "Platonic life partners". This gag is then dropped abruptly midway through the episode, as Rudy goes completely unmentioned during Bob's story and the ending.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Wedgie: Gene's story has Louise as a world-class wedgie assassin.
  • Whole-Plot Reference:
