An Offer You Can't Refuse: Simone captures Sonia and Tori trying to rob her house. She forces them to rob the draugr for her or else spend an eternity as indentured servants. Badass: Simone was able to defeat both Sonia and Tori without either landing a hit. She also delivers the killing blow on Thorolf. Thorolf as well. He fought off all of The Saints, multiple times, as well as surviving an encounter with the PCD. The Beastmaster: Katrina can sense and influence animals with magic. Berserk Button: The Bone Eclipse series, an in-universe book and film series, is one for Sonia. The Big Guy: Jason appears to be such, carrying most of the loot and being described as someone who regularly works out. Blow You Away: Thorolf uses gusts of winds to counter Marcus’s fire. Body Horror: An effect on the ghosts Thorolf corrupts. Thorolf himself is described as very decomposed. Buffy Speak: Tori refers to theft as "robberate." Sonia calls it "house breaking" in the same chapter. The Caper: The story starts in the middle of one. Casual Danger Dialog: Sonia snarks at Simone, a mage fully capable of killing her. Charm Person: Enchantment allows a mage to influence people. Combined with the Passion spells below allows for a powerful tool. Cold-Blooded Torture: Thorolf’s knife keeps its victims alive as long as it remains in their heart. He uses it to keep people alive as he eats them. Cold Iron: Mentioned as a weakness for Faeries. Cool Big Sis: Tori seems to be one to Lori. For example, she decides to buy Lori a moped for finishing rehab. The Corruption: Thorolf does this to the ghosts in his graveyard, driving them mad. Creepy Cemetery: The draugr, a powerful mage, lives in a graveyard which will most likely end up being one of these. Curb-Stomp Battle: How Simone's fight with Sonia and Tori went. Dishing Out Dirt: After his normal, playing with fire, abilities fail to do any harm to Thorolf, Marcus switches over to this. Functional Magic: Most likely of the Force Magic variety. Gender-Blender Name: Dante, a friend of The Saints. The Hero: Sonia, the main character. Horror Hunger: Averted. Thorolf doesn’t actually need to eat his victims. He just wants to. Hostage for MacGuffin: Briefly. Thorolf threatens to kill Marcus unless Sonia hands over the locket. Unusually, Sonia complies and they lose the locket but manage to save Marcus in the process. Human Shield: Thorolf uses Sonia, and later Marcus, as shields against their friends. He doesn’t actually need to but he enjoys toying with the. "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Discussed and averted. Simone outright says to avoid trying this tactic on Thorolf. Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Thorolf, although it fails to take. Improbable Weapon User: Thorolf shows up to a fight wielding a cleaver. Indentured Servitude: Sonia and Tori's fate if they fail to recover Simone's locket. Intangibility: A standard Draugr ability. In Medias Res: The story starts in the middle of a robbery. I See Dead People: All mages seem to be able to do this. It Only Works Once: Draugrs, like all undead, have specific weaknesses. Unlike other undead, draugr will quickly overcome their weaknesses. Macguffin: Simone’s locket. Magic A Is Magic A: So far. Master of Illusion: Tori keeps Thorolf distracted, and buys the rest of The Saints time to rest, by sending wave after wave of illusions at him. Master of Unlocking: Jason is able to use magic to unlock doors. Morality Pet: Tori and Marcus might be this, with both of them stealing less than any of the other characters. In fact, Tori needs to be dragged into doing the heist shown in the prologue. Necromancer: Necromancy shows up but seem to be more closely related to Entropy and Chaos Magic as it focuses more on breaking the natural order than raising the dead. Our Ghosts Are Different: So far there seems to be multiple types of ghosts that exist for different reasons. Our Zombies Are Different: The draugr, most likely. Playing with Fire: Marcus, in a Big Damn Heroes moment, uses fire to scare off a large group of feral ghosts from the rest of the team. Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Sonia is described as such. Sarcastic Confession: Jason uses this to explain why he needs to purchase a shopping cart filled with baseball bats, pickaxes, knives, and an axe. Sacrificial Lamb: John, the helpful spirit seen in the first chapter, gets decapitated by Thorolf. Shapeshifting: Draugr can do this. Katrina has a more limited form, allowing her to gain animal characteristics. Show Some Leg: Tori and Sonia do this to distract a couple of cops in 1.1. Shock and Awe: Both Sonia and Thorolf use electricity several times during their fight. Star-Crossed Lovers: Simone’s parents. Super Strength: Another one of draugrs many abilities. That Man Is Dead: According to Simone, Harold Evergreen is dead. Only Thorolf the Draugr remains. Theme Naming: The sisters, Lori and Tori. Time Master: One of the Parnormal Crime Division is able to do this. Tracking Device: A magical variant, Thorolf enchanted the locket so he always knows where it is. The Undead: The draugr, though what type remains to be seen. The Unmasqued World: Seems to be. There’s a police division specifically for handling paranormal events, public warnings are made when supernatural threats are running loose, and a draugr attack is discussed, by name, on the evening news in the same way a drive-by would be. Walking Tech Bane: The Industrial Path of Magic lets a person use magic to mess with technology. Weather Manipulation: Yet another draugr power, though the extent is unknown. White Mage: Katrina has healed herself and others with healing spells. Vampiric Draining: Sonia absorbs some of a ghosts essence to heal herself. The Virus: Anyone killed by a draugr comes back as a draugr.
