Just For Fun / Hyperdimension Date A Live Re Birth

Go To

Hyperdimension Date A Live: Re;Birth is a crossover between Neptunia and Date A Live.

After the events of Tohka's arc, a spacequake occurs in Tengu City that carries with it four Spirits... or are they really? No, actually, they are CPUs - the guardian goddesses of a world called Gamindustri. With this new X-factor introduced into the world, how will the various forces of the world react?

Tropes included:

  • Absurd Cutting Power: NEXT Purple's Dimensional Slice ability is truly insane, being able to slice through dimensions and - supposedly - cut things at a conceptual level, allowing her to cleave through even non-physical things. And it turns out that Sandalphon and Nahemah both share this quality.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Neptune, full stop. Even her anime counterpart had it easy, as in this one she awakens into Chaos Purple as The Berserker, and she distances herself from Shido after the incident as she feels guilty of having murdered an entire squad of Adepti and DEM Wizards, she becomes afraid of hurting him in the same manner. Good thing Shido is there to convince her that Mistakes Are Not the End of the World and give her a much-needed big, big hug...
  • Alternate Timeline: As per usual, Beast comes from one of these. However, in this version of events, the CPUs were able to survive her rampage... not that it caused the world to be any better. Hell, Beast actually having to exert herself in constant fights against them actually made things slightly worse.
  • An Ice Person: Both Blanc and Yoshino can create and control ice, though while Blanc is physically stronger, she admits that Yoshino's powers are better due to being able to control all three states of water
  • Anti-Hero: Chaos Purple qualifies for both types, being a 90's type during her initial awakening by Westcott’s hand before becoming a Classical Anti-Hero later on, as for the latter, she does put up a front of being The Gadfly as per usual, but deep down she’s scared to lose Shido again as well as of the damage she will cause after what happened initially.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: Isaac Westcott ends up teaming up with Croire, creating the Chaos Share Crystals by pooling together their knowledge of spirits and Share Energy. However, Croire makes it clear that she's simply teaming up with Westcott because the chance to record his kind of hell is too good to pass up.
  • The Berserker: Chaos Form is essentially this, as the CPUs' under the influence of the Chaos Share Crystal would have little regard for their consequences and would cause destruction and kill to reach their goals. A good example of this would be Chaos Purple vs. Inverse Tohka; while Inverse Tohka is fighting with indifference and shows no respect for Neptune, Chaos Purple darts around and obliterates most of the DEM HQ and Adepti using overwhelming speed and rapid slashes, while shouting legitimate death threats due to her grief and rage of seemingly seeing Shido die in front of her eyes.
  • Bloodier and Gorier: Oh so much for the Inverse Tohka episode, since this is also the episode where Chaos Purple makes her first appearance, and the result is the entirety of the Wizards and Adepti in charge of her horribly massacred just like something out of Mortal Kombat. Highlights include body parts and guts flying everywhere, gratuitous amounts of blood spraying to the walls, floor and Chaos Purple and the bloodcurdling and agonizing screams of the Adepti as Chaos Purple brutally kills them in increasingly bloody ways. No wonder said episode came with a Content Warning.
  • Blow You Away: Vert and the Yamai sisters can all manipulate wind.
  • Break the Cutie: Poor, poor Neptune (See Adaptational Angst Upgrade above). After awakening into Chaos Purple as The Berserker and being aware of the whole situation the entire time, it's no wonder she distanced herself from Shido and rarely smiles (and even if she does, she hides the fact that internally, she's desperately crying for help), until Shido forces her to fess up before breaking down in a stream of Broken Tears, something that not even her Anime counterpart measured to.
    • This also applies to the other CPUs the moment they awaken their Chaos Forms as well. They are just as less willing to reveal it, but Shido sees through their facade far quicker than Neptune's.
  • Bullet Hell: NEXT Green can easily pull this off with her Infinite Spear ability, throwing volleys of spears that wouldn't seem out of place being used by Gilgamesh.
  • Cool Sword: Tohka still has her Angel Sandalphon (which becomes the Demon King Nahemah upon Inversion), while Neptune generally just has a standard katana that turns into a larger single-edged blade in HDD. Noire also has a rapier that also turns into a larger blade upon transformation.
  • Dual Wielding:
    • As usual, Tohka can do this both in her Full Form and her much more canon merged form with Tenka.
    • NEXT Black pushes this to the logical extreme, quintuple-wielding through the use of her Diagonal Blade Dance ability.
  • Good Costume Switch: Not fully "good" per se, but after the climax of the Miku Arc where she comes to terms with the damage caused by her rampage and Took a Level in Cheerfulness, Chaos Purple wears a less Stripperiffic black, adult-sized parka (with a scarf for winter) with both her normal HDD and Chaos motifs combined similar to her Ultradimension self covering her otherwise bare and well-endowed body. Not that it stops her from occasionally taking it off to tease Shido and/or Noire, though. Or hampering her ability in combat in any meaningful way.
  • Non-Indicative Name: While Noire is generally pretty good at avoiding this trope (her mostly-gray Ultradimension counterpart notwithstanding), Chaos Black is actually mostly colored white.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: After the incident involving Chaos Purple and Inverse Tohka, Neptune deliberately steers clear of Shido until the climax of the Origami Arc where she’s forced to transform into Chaos Purple again to save him, allowing Shido and everyone else to figure out that she's not her usual optimistic self. Additionally, a date scene after that arc even has her tearfully admit to killing the DEM Adepti and Wizards in horrifying detail while bawling her eyes out before Shido gives her a Cooldown Hug, reminding her that even though she is a Goddess, she has the heart of a human.
  • Outside-Context Problem: The CPUs quickly become this after entering the world of Date A Live. Not only do they remain in the world after their entry, but the entirely different function of their powers compared to the Spirits means that Shido is unable to seal them. They also utilize Share Energy instead of Reiryoku, meaning that the usual mechanisms for dealing with Spirits don't work against them. It gets to the point where not even Mio was sure of how to deal with them before her manifestation.
  • Playing with Fire: Noire showcases some fire-based abilities such as her Volcano Dive technique, but generally admits that Kotori has a lot more finesse with her pyrokinesis.
  • Sadistic Choice: The main thing that leads to Neptune's transformation into her Chaos Form, all formulated by Westcott. Either she watches as Ellen kills Shido, or she uses the Chaos Share Crystal, which she knows nothing about at the time. Ultimately, she decides to take a figurative leap of faith and use the Chaos Crystal, becoming The Berserker due to a combination of intense grief over Shido's apparent death and Chaos Form's reduced inhibitions.
  • Single-Stroke Battle: NEXT Purple's Dimensional Slice is a single iaido-style slash with such ridiculous cutting ability that it typically results in any fight it is used in boiling down to one of these.
  • Sinister Scythe: Unlike Vert's standard Chaos Form, which retains her typical spear, Chaos Green carries a relatively massive energy scythe. It's large enough, in fact, that it is typically held by two separate mechanical hands that float beside her.
  • Super Mode: HDD acts as this, as usual, with NEXT Form being a Next Tier Power-Up and Chaos Form being a Superpowered Evil Side.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Two flavors of this are present.
    • Firstly, there is the Inverse Form of the Spirits. As usual, it is entered by them reaching "the depths of despair", as Westcott puts it. Their Sephira Crystal turns into a Qlipha Crystal, their Angel is replaced with an equivalent Demon King, their Astral Dress turns darker, and they are generally far more powerful. They also tend to destroy everything in their wake upon manifestation, though Inverse Tohka does showcase greater levels of self-control during Mukuro's arc.
    • Then there is the CPUs' new Chaos Form, accessible after a CPU obtains a Chaos Share Crystal. Their outfits become darker and more Stripperiffic in appearance, they reach a level of power beyond their standard forms, and the power-up even carries over into their HDD form. However, not only is the NEXT Form still a lot more powerful, but they aren't exactly evil. They just have far less regard for the consequences of their actions, leading to more destructive behavior (see The Berserker above).
  • The Gadfly: Neptune, as usual. Besides the usual jabs at Noire, she also harbors no feelings of love towards Shido, simply playing girlfriend to screw with those around them. This also applies to her Chaos Forms after the Miku Arc, as deep down she’s just happy to see Shido’s alive and wants to have fun with him as much as she can.
  • Thinking Up Portals: Vert can generate small portals through which she generally utilizes her Sylhet Spear and Infinite Spear techniques. However, she does note that they are not usable for travel due to their size.
  • Wave-Motion Gun: NEXT White's Blaster Controller is a massive beam cannon that was able to obliterate the protective Realizer of the Goetia with no issue.
