Go To

Town And Out: Brockton Bay Edition is a crossover between Worm, The Powerpuff Girls and a surprise series by Pictsie Styx.

After an unspecified tinkertech incident, Professor Utonium's house, inhabitants and all, is teleported to Brockton Bay after the Ruby Dreams robbery but before Taylor's first night out.

Emily Piggot has to deal with three pint-sized headaches.

Thinkers across the country have to deal with chronic debilitating headaches.

This fanfic contains examples of the following:

  • AcCENT upon the Wrong SylLABle: Panacea's creations speak this way.
  • Adaptational Heroism: the Cornell Bomber.
  • Adaptational Name Change: Taylor's Cape name is Vespinae, and the former Cornell Bomber goes by Bombardier instead of Bakuda.
  • Adaptation Origin Connection: The author buys into the PPG fan theory that Chemical X was derived from the remains of Aku.
  • Asshole Victim: Butcher 14 gets captured and experimented on by Panacea
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • Aisha for Lisa and Alec after they're captured by Faultline's Crew.
    • Big Ben shows up to help Bullet against HIM, with other heroes following.
  • Brown Note: Chemical X for Thinkers, to the point that the pain and Power Incontinence caused by trying to use Thinker powers on the Powerpuff Girls ks is nicknamed PuffBrain. Though depending on the power, it can eventually result in the Thinker's shard jailbreaking itself and slipping Scion's control, which happens to both Lisa and Dinah.
  • Badass Bystander: When an army of Fallen fanatics came to confront the Powerpuff Girls, a similar army of better armed ribbon-decked Brocktonites charge head on at the fanatics.
  • Combo Platter Powers: The Powerpuff Girls are basically Alexandria Packages with Eidolon-style additional powers including loud screaming and ice breath.
  • Creepy Good: Amy/Sekhmet and her daughters are noted to be rather creepy in appearance, but all of them are heroes, with Amy being a Motherly Scientist and her daughters being Adorable Abominations at worst.
  • Death by Adaptation: Behemoth and Butcher 14 die early, and both at the hands of Amy Dallon.
    • Teacher gets his head smooshed by Glastig Uaine. There are probably more casualties when she subsequently smashes her way out of The Birdcage.
  • Discard and Draw: Dinah apparently Second-Triggered with a more manageable power.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Victoria when she realizes that Cauldron is behind the case 53s.
  • Exact Words: When someone suspects that Bombardier might have been the Cornell Bomber, Taylor says that she and Bombardier believe Bombardier triggered in close proximity to the Cornell Bomber, as it is a proven fact that people who trigger near a cape tend to have similar powers to the cape. It is entirely true that Bombardier triggered in close proximity to the Bomber, as she was the Bomber.
  • Fanboy: Vista instantly becomes a huge fan of the Powerpuff Girls.
  • Gesundheit: The second variant, after Blossom corrects Buttercup on mispronouncing Scion's name.
  • Heel–Face Turn:
  • Humanoid Abomination: The... things... that Panacea produced with Chemical X.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: Piggot expresses this sentiment but doesn't indulge.
  • Karmic Death: Jack Slash ends up having his head crushed by a Chemical X-mutated Bonesaw.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: After meeting the Girls, Emily Piggot reckons her life has become a slapstick comedy.
  • Little Miss Badass: Besides the three obvious examples, there's also a gun-toting Vista and an Aisha who attacks Faultline's crew head-on.
  • Mad Scientist: Amy seems to have gone off the deep end following her examination of the girls. She is a bit loopy, but turns out to still be a good person.
  • Meaningful Rename: Amy changes her cape name from Panacea to Sekhmet, pointing out that Sekhmet was also a goddess of healing, but unlike Panacea she was also a war goddess, fitting with her increased combat ability.
  • Mood Whiplash:
    • A given when the lighthearted tone of Powerpuff Girls clashes with the darker tone of Worm.
    • Professor Utonium's "The Reason You Suck" Speech to Brandish gets some when he divulges the involvement of Aku's remains in the procurement of Chemical X.
    • Faultline's Crew attempting to abduct the Undersiders quickly goes from Oh, Crap! moment to a cartoony beatdown scene.
    • Normally, the first appearance of the Slaughterhouse Nine counts as a Wham Shot, but Jack and Bonesaw subvert their usual aura of dread by making a The Blues Brothers joke.
  • Mugging the Monster: Lung should not have picked a fight with those three girls.
  • Mushroom Samba: Contessa, Tattletale, and Dinah/High-Roller all experience a high while trying to get a grip on the Powerpuff girls.
    • Contessa turns into a Conspiracy Theorist, suffers from synesthesia (mentioning the Paths "taste different colors"), and has her Paths constantly changing.
    • Tattletale suffers a temporary superpower outage as her Shard buffers and compiles the data, resulting in it getting jailbroken, and starts mumbling incoherently about "foolish samurai".
    • Dinah plays it straightest, flat-out Tripping when Coil makes his unsuccessful getaway.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Taking out Lung at the start of the story causes chaos.
    • Taylor's first time out as a hero gets her mistaken for a villain. Bubbles at least recognizes she's a hero because her targets are Merchants and Empire goons.
  • Narrative Profanity Filter/ Sound-Effect Bleep: The fic has an apparent Shaker effect that prevents swear words from being audible. Written swear words are censored on PHO. Averted for thought swear words.
  • Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant: PANACEA.
  • No Fourth Wall: The Narrator posts on PHO.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: One happens to Lung. Another happens to Behemoth.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: The Powerpuff Girls in Earth Bet.
  • Noodle Implements: Amy uses Chemical X and a captured Butcher 14 to Titanize herself. Exactly how is unclear, only the results.
  • No-Sell: Hatchetface rudely finds out that his powers doesn't affect Bubbles.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • The Undersiders when Coil sends them on a Suicide Mission.
    • Faultline's Crew when the kidnapping of the Undersiders goes pear-shaped. and then again when Aisha rescues Lisa and Alec.
    • Coil when confronted by Bubbles and Professor Utonium.
    • Lisa when her power shorts out.
    • Everyone when Behemoth shows up. And then when he gets back up after being pile-drived into the ground by the girls.
    • Everyone in reaction to Panacea turning herself into a Titan and getting into a fight with Behemoth.
    • Hatchetface finds out that his powers doesn't work on Bubbles.
    • HIM when over twenty superheroes are about to pummel him at once.
  • Outside-Context Problem: The Powerpuff Girls are idealistic and innocent cartoony toddlers, whose madness-inducing biology gives them the godlike powerset of Pre-Crisis Kryptonians, created by an extremely intelligent but otherwise normal human being. From the Wormverse's point of view they are unstoppable and unfathomable cosmic horrors wearing adorable human faces.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Three of them.
  • Posthumous Character: Aku has been long dead by the start of the story.
  • Psychic Static: Chemical X being derived from the remains of Aku harvested by Professor Utonium causes Thinkers to have massive headaches and/or a Mushroom Samba when trying to gain information on the girls.
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: Coil stresses every word when he gives Tattletale new orders regarding the Girls: "...so get. It. Done."
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here:
    • Panacea bails from New Wave after suffering a Sanity Slippage.
    • Attempted by Coil, only to be taken out by a Thinker Headache and Bubbles' interception.
    • Faultline's Crew also attempts to high-tail it out of Brockton Bay after failing to nab the Undersiders, only to be caught by Aisha.
  • Sanity Slippage: Amy Dallon takes one look at the Powerpuff Girls' anatomy and promptly goes off the deep end, creating Humanoid Abomination "children" and then turning herself into a Titan by chapter 16.
  • Shout-Out:
    Bonesaw: Hit it.
  • Spider People: Bonesaw becomes one after exposing herself to Chemical X. Unfortunately for her, and fortunately for everyone else, this means that Taylor can control her
  • Stop Being Stereotypical: Faultline flat out accuses Comrade Red for being a blatant Captain Ethnic stereotype. Comrade Red takes offense and defends his costume as a way to represent his country, and calling Faultline out for not even ragging on Big Ben, who is also a national stereotype of England.
  • Suicide Mission: Either the Undersiders go on one for Coil or he kills them. The Undersiders purposefully let themselves get captured by the Powerpuff Girls.
  • Superhero Packing Heat: Vista draws a gun during a fight.
  • There Can Be Only One: Princess believes that she is the only Powerpuff Girl left by default, but she is very upset to find out Bullet is defending Townsville. Thus leading to a battle between them.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Professor Utonium gives one to Carol Dallon.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: The Powerpuff Girls face some existential angst after finding out about the remains of Aku being the source of Chemical X.
  • Too Dumb to Live: In retrospect, bringing Panacea out of M/S quarantine was a bad idea...
  • Took a Level in Badass: Amy Dallon upgrades herself into Titan Sekhmet and successfully KILLS BEHEMOTH.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Coil began to lose his cool when his powers are severely disrupted by the PPG's presence. When he gets cornered by the PPG and Professor Utonium, Coil desperately tries to split the timelines but only to get beaten and capture every time while his powers keeps harming him until he finally snapped and start laughing crazy.
  • Was Once a Man: The Titan Sekhmet, formerly known as Amy Dallon.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: The subject of Professor Utonium's "The Reason You Suck" Speech to Carol Dallon regarding her treatment of Panacea.
  • You Are in Command Now: After Alexandria spills all Cauldron's dirty laundry, Piggot forces her to stand down as Head of the PRT and Doctor Mother as head of Cauldon with herself taking over, citing that neither of them knows what they're doing anymore and new leadership is needed.
  • You Don't Look Like You: Bombardier (ie Bakuda) after Bonesaw gives her plastic surgery.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Mojo Jojo attempt to take over Townsville under the belief the city is defenseless without the Powerpuff Girls, but only to be stop by Bullet, the Powerpuff Squirrel. "Oh, you have got to be pulling my leg."
    • Amy when she finds out about the 17 other Endbringers from The Simurgh. Dragon undergoes a literal Heroic BSoD.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Coil tries to kill the Undersiders with a Suicide Mission. Tattletale saw through Coil's plan and had herself and her team surrender to the Powerpuff Girls.
