The Beanie Ghost is an SMG4 fanfiction originally written by Perry Martin on October 30th 2022, who gave CVGW James permission to finish, which he eventually did in February 14th 2023.

In an alternate universe during the events of Meggy's Destiny: An SMG4 Movie, Team Killer Ink's leader, Vin Valentine, takes her racism towards humans too far by eliminating the competition... literally. After she kicks Meggy off a platform, she lands on the edge of a shipping container and dies, cancelling the match and leaving her friends to grieve. In the afterlife, Meggy meets a being named Embra, Lady of the Lost, who allows her as a ghost to see the funeral the SMG4 crew held for her. Despite Meggy begging Embra to put her back into her body, it's out of Embra's control, and she has different ideas...

Check it out on FanFiction.Net here, or on DeviantArt here. Note that the first two chapters are written by Perry, while the rest was written by James.

The Beanie Ghost contains examples of:

  • Accidental Murder: Vin wasn't trying to kill Meggy, but was still more impressed by the results than she should have been.
  • All Just a Dream: The whole story was a dream SMG4 had.
  • Alternate Universe Fic: The story takes place in a dark timeline where Meggy dies before she can win Splatfest. This is made explicitly clear in one of the stingers.
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Interruption: When Meggy and Embra appear to haunt Team Killer Ink, we get this gem before they reveal themselves.
Vin: There's no such thing as...
    Rays: GHOST!
  • Big "OMG!": Marie’s reaction when she realizes that it wasn't "red ink" coming out of Meggy, but blood.
  • Call-Back: Despite this story taking place in a darker timeline, the original version of Meggy's Destiny still gets referenced a few times.
    • In Chapter 3, Gahsk interrupting Rays' slight train of thought at "unless" and getting the party started is a reference to SMG4 semi-teasing the possibility of another Splatoon-related adventurenote  when Bob butted in desiring to get the victory party started.
    • Meggy complaining about Team Killer Ink’s discriminating against her and her friends in Chapter 4 is reminiscent to her doing so after the first Splatfest match.
    • Some of the lines during the revelation that Mario, Luigi, and Tari won Splatfest are synonymous to those of the original.
  • The Cameo: Meggy sees Spudnick while she's in Heaven.
  • Death by Adaptation: Meggy, of course. Her death serves as the story's basic premise.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: The other members of Team Killer Ink are shocked, if not flat-out disapproving, of their leader’s murder of Meggy.
  • Forced to Watch: As a ghost, Meggy can only watch her own funeral as she begs her friends to look at her.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Embra, a benevolent spectral creature, has blonde hair.
  • Lack of Empathy: Vin not only doesn’t care about the fact that she committed murder or caused grief for the victim's teammates, but is amazed by what she did.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After all is said and done, Vin confesses to Meggy's murder and goes back to jail, while the rest of Team Killer Ink is on community service.
  • Let Me at Him!: Mario's reaction to not only Vin causing Meggy's death, but being happy about it, with Luigi holding him back.
  • Light/Darkness Juxtaposition: Embra wears a white robe and wants to help people, while Karsum wears a black cloak and wants to destroy, not create. It's Sibling Yin-Yang at its finest.
  • Meaningful Funeral: Naturally, the SMG4 crew holds one for Meggy after her death.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Team Killer Ink went unnamed in Meggy's Destiny, but here, they have been given names, being Vin Valentine (leader), Gahsk, (commando), Rays (thug), and Mosque (sniper).
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Despite being a ghost, Meggy is capable of beating people up... and beat up people (i.e. Team Killer Ink) she does.
  • Original Character:
    • Embra is an original creation of Perry and doesn't exist in the SMG4verse, or any other media in general. Here is James' drawing of the character.
    • Karsum, another creation by Perry and Embra’s brother, makes an appearance in the final chapter. He is said to be connected to the Warmongers, more creations by Perry. James made a drawing of him too.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: Meggy has demonstrated instances of making physical contact with others as a ghost, from beating up Team Killer Ink to hugging Tari. That said, she couldn't interact with anyone at her funeral, and it was only after getting some help from Embra does she accomplish the aforementioned feats.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Karsum, a dark and ominous figure, has red eyes.
  • Say My Name: Tari screams Meggy's name as she dies.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Meggy coordinating her team at the beginning of the story was written in the style of The Avengers (2012), complete with her telling Mario to "smash".
    • After Meggy's death, Mario says "YOU KILLED-A MY FRIEND, YOU SONS OF-A BITCHES!" This is a clear reference to Grand Theft Mario, particularly a voice clip that gets used a lot in SMG4's videos.
    • Team Killer Ink's leader was also called "Vin Valentine" in RusSniper45's videos.
    • Just when you think you heard all the Star Wars references in the world, Chapter 4 has Meggy say "this is where the fun begins" and Mosque say "I have a bad feeling about this"note .
    • Other works from Perry get referenced when James took over writing. Most notably, Tari's victory speech is taken from that of Meggy's in a similar situation.
    • While thinking about Meggy, Mario sings his rendition of Country Roads created by oran.
    • Even Zelda: Wand of Gamelon, of all things, gets a reference near the end of the story, where the Squid Sisters say that the rest of Team Killer Ink (with their leader in jail) will be sweeping the floors in Inkopolis.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Embra and Karsum don’t seem to quite get along as siblings.
  • Significant Reference Date: Vin's prison number is 2282020, the release date of Meggy's Destiny.
  • The Stinger: The story concludes with three scenes after the The End tag. The first one is a scene between Embra and Karsum, the second one is the revelation that SMG4 was merely dreaming the events of the story, and the third one is Mario killing Vin in revenge for killing Meggy.
  • Together in Death: The final chapter shows Meggy meeting Desti in the afterlife.
  • Vengeful Ghost: After James took over writing, the first thing Meggy does is torment Team Killer Ink for killing her in a Roaring Rampage of Revenge.
  • Villain Episode: Chapter 3 focuses on Team Killer Ink in jail, then being bailed out.
  • Villainous Breakdown: It doesn't take long for Vin to crack and scream that she would repent when Meggy haunts her in Chapter 4.
