Go To

Team Prime's Lovable Blue Idiot is a crossover between Transformers: Prime and Red vs. Blue on Wattpad by BattleDroid1106.

Caboose ends up in the world of Transformers Prime after he accidentally ejects himself in an escape pod while in Slipspace. Things quickly go off the rails as he joins the Autobots and drives everyone up the wall with his special brand of idiocy and kindness.

This fic contains examples of:

  • Accidental Misnaming: Caboose is prone to inadvertently calling other characters by the wrong name, to the point that Arcee is the only bot who doesn't get her name butchered by him.
  • Actually Pretty Funny:
    • Bulkhead ends up laughing at Caboose's attempt to deflect responsibility for accidentally destroying Ratchet's equipment.
    • Optimus and Bulkhead end up laughing at how their counterparts within Caboose's mind behave.
    • Watching the Zealots teabag Knockout causes Starscream and Breakdown to fall over laughing.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Airachnid here has plenty of hidden pain and sadness that her canon counterpart lacked due to the loss of her younger brother to Police Brutality at the hands of an Autobot Enforcer.
  • Adaptational Badass:
    • In addition to his skills as a simulation trooper, Caboose has the durability and strength common to all Cybertronians and is also a triple changer capable of switching between tank and fighter modes.
    • All of the Red Vs Blue characters that arrive in the world of Prime are a lot more powerful than their canon counterparts thanks to the increased strength and durability they receive from their conversion into Cybertronians.
    • Freckles is Caboose's Minicon companion who can transform into a Mantis along with his original form as an MA5D assault rifle.
  • Adaptational Species Change: Caboose is converted into a Vehicon by the circumstances of his arrival in Jasper, Nevada, with the other Red Vs Blue characters who arrive later in the story also getting themselves turned into Cybertronians.
  • All-Loving Hero: Caboose is such a Nice Guy that it's almost impossible for anyone to hate him for long and even manages to redeem Airachnid just by showing her genuine kindness for the first time in her life.
  • Batman Gambit: Caboose convinces Megatron to tell him the recipe for the Cybonic Plague antidote by telling the Decepticon leader that if he lets the Cybonic Plague kill Optimus, then Megatron will never be able to enjoy the satisfaction of defeating his Arch-Enemy with his own hands. Sure enough, Megatron's desire to defeat Optimus bot to bot compels him to tell Caboose the recipe to the Cybonic Plague antidote.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Caboose is a happy-go-lucky bot who is also capable of blowing his way through Decepticons and MECH operatives when sufficiently pissed off.
  • BFG:
    • Doc, Simmons, and Lopez wield the M41 SPNKr while Grif wields his signature Grifshot.
    • One of the Meta's weapons is literally the main gun of his tank mode.
  • Big Damn Heroes: The Blood Gulch crew arrive just in time to hold off the Decepticon attack on the Autobot base.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Caboose is still as scatterbrained as he is in canon, constantly calling people by the wrong names and believing that everyone is his best friend even if their actions prove otherwise.
  • Cool Car:
    • Washington, Grif, Sarge, Doc and Lopez respectively transform into the Warthog, Rocket Warthog, and Gauss Warthog.
    • Carolina transforms into a Mongoose.
    • Donut transforms into a Phantom.
  • Cool Plane:
    • Caboose's aerial alt-mode takes the form of the Falcon strike fighter that was cut from Halo Wars.
    • Tucker, along with certain members of the Zealots, transform into the YSS-1000 Sabre Space Fighter from Halo: Reach.
    • Felix can transform into a Despair-class fighter on top of his Brute Chopper alt-form.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Caboose may be a complete idiot, but when push comes to shove, he can easily mop the floor with the Decepticons.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • Megatron may be a brutal tyrant, but one thing he cannot stand is what Caboose and the Zealots get up to since they bring him no small amount of annoyance with how nonsensical they get.
    • Soundwave cannot stand Felix's constant chatter at all and barely restrains himself from strangling Felix with his tentacles.
    • Felix is rather surprised at Megatron deciding to let Breakdown have it for getting himself captured by humans just because he jokingly suggested that they leave the big guy in MECH's hands.
    • Not even Silas can tolerate Donut's constant chatter and is all too eager to proceed with removing his optic just so he doesn't have to listen to him talk again.
  • Eye Scream: Donut gets his eye ripped out by MECH while held captive in their base, all without even having his pain receptors turned off. He later gets it replaced with a makeshift optic with a built-in energon sensor.
  • Flanderization: The mental projections of the Autobots within Caboose's mind have the defining traits of their real-world counterparts exaggerated to the point of comedy. To boot:
    • Mental!Optimus calls himself "Octopus Trine" and is obsessed with being an Ideal Hero, constantly spouting off nonsensical "heroic speeches" and proclaiming that he will stop Megawatt's villainy.
    • Mental!Ratchet is constantly worried about his stuff getting broken, often says big words that may or may not be made up to sound smarter than he may really be, and yells "I needed that!" on a constant basis.
    • Mental!Bulkhead is a jolly but stupid meathead with a love for wrecking things and a penchant for screaming like a little girl when he runs into scary things.
    • Mental!Arcee is highly protective towards Caboose yet has a hard time coming to terms with her feelings for him.
  • Freudian Excuse: Airachnid's actions, rather than being done for sick amusement, are recontextualized as stemming from past trauma. Specifically, she used to have a younger brother named Arachne that she loved very much before an Autobot Enforcer killed him for a crime he didn't commit, resulting in her Start of Darkness as she decided to make others taste despair like she had when Arachne was murdered.
  • Giving Up on Logic: Just about everyone in Transformers: Prime learns to just roll with it when it comes to the Blood Gulch crew and the Respawners due to their actions defying all common sense and logic that they're used to.
  • Grand Theft Me: Megatron attempts to take control of Caboose after he takes Bumblebee's place in asking him for the cure to the Cybonic Plague. It doesn't go as smoothly as in canon thanks to Caboose being such a Cloudcuckoolander that his mind is almost impossible to navigate.
  • Groin Attack: Tucker is a frequent recipient of attacks to the groin courtesy of Arcee, mainly for his constant attempts to flirt with the Autobot femme.
  • Heel Realization: Airachnid realizes that she's fallen very far from the kind bot she used to be after she nearly kills Caboose with one of her spider legs
  • Idiot Hero: Caboose, very much so. Dumber than a box of rocks? Check. Kindhearted personality and strong morals? Also check.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Caboose is stabbed by Airachnid in the chest after she lashes out at him. Ratchet notes that if she aimed just a little bit lower, she would have hit his spark chamber and killed him.
  • In Love with Your Carnage: Airachnid witnesses Caboose's rampage against the MECH operatives that captured Arcee while fighting her and finds it rather attractive due to the sheer brutality he displays against his foes.
  • Insistent Terminology: As a certain MECH operative would put it, his name is Jo-Annis, not Joanes.
  • It Runs on Nonsensoleum:
    • Caboose is somehow able to bring Transformer-scaled snow clothes and a backpack for himself, Arcee, and Optimus for their mission to the Arctic. Ratchet and Arcee are simply dumbfounded that he somehow even has them
Ratchet: ...he's not serious with snow clothes, is he...?
    Arcee: ...I...I don't know...
    • The Zealots take this up to eleven with their ability to spontaneously revive themselves and being even crazier than Reds and Blues, and their combined forms are just as insane as their constituent parts are due to their madness.
  • Manchild: Played With when it comes to Caboose; he's dumb as a box of rocks most of the time, but he is also capable of displaying rare moments of insight when it counts the most.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Airachnid comes to understand just how far she has fallen when she realizes that she almost killed Caboose in her anger and pain.
  • Official Couple: So far, Caboose and Arcee are confirmed as a couple within the fic's universe. The author even posted a chapter with artwork depicting their relationship, which has been dubbed "Blue Love" by the fanbase.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: The Reds and Blues are all too happy to remind Tucker of the messed-up union he had with an Elite and having a kid from said union.
  • Pity the Kidnapper: Donut annoys the MECH operatives that captured him and Breakdown by chatting them up about the coloring and aesthetics of their armor. It doesn't save him from getting his right optic removed.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Arcee nearly kills Airachnid in her rage after she runs into her right after the spider-bot accidentally stabbed Caboose in the chest. Airachnid even notes that Arcee was extremely close to turning Decepticon from being that pissed.
  • Reality Is Out to Lunch: Caboose's mind is a madhouse due to his skewed perception of reality, which nearly drives Megatron insane from sheer annoyance and exasperation when he attempts to bodyjack him.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning:
    • Caboose's optics turn red whenever someone manages to enrage him. Hurting any of his friends is the usual cause of said rage.
    • Arcee's eyes briefly turn red as a sign of how close she is to turning Decepticon from sheer anger as she attempts to kill Airachnid for supposedly killing Caboose
  • Sanity Slippage: Miko briefly morphs into a trigger-happy and foul-mouthed Blood Knight as she mans the minigun turret of Grif's Warthog alt-mode to hold off the zombified Skyquake while she, Grif, and Jack escape from the Shadowzone. The Autobots are not happy about this after they witness it on the intercom and watch Jack's recording of the whole shebang.
  • Shipper on Deck: Tucker is the one to notice how Arcee is attracted to Caboose and supports their relationship. Miko joins in on the fun in "I'm Your Best Friend".
  • Tank Goodness: Simmons transforms into the Scorpion main battle tank while the Meta transforms into a version of the Grizzly heavy tank based on early concept art for its implementation in Halo Wars.
  • Tempting Fate: Tucker believes that if Caboose can use his alt-modes without any issues, then everyone else shouldn't have any problem with using their alt-forms. The ensuing chaos proves otherwise.
Tucker: Huh, okay. If Caboose can transform and use his alt modes without problem, we can do it. How hard can it be?
Lopez: No lo gafe (Don't jinx it)
    (One Gilligan Cut later)
Lopez: Tú lo gafas (You jinxed it)
Grif: AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH! HOW DO I STEP ON THE BRAKES?!
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: Averted for the Blood Gulch Crew; they have fewer reservations towards killing any hostile humans compared to the Autobots given that they had killed other people and each other as humans prior to their conversion into Cybertronians.
  • We Need a Distraction: Caboose uses himself to draw Airachnid's attention away from Arcee while she frees herself from Airachnid's webbing.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Caboose chews out Arcee for letting her fear of losing comrades get in the way of the mission when they are facing off against Airachnid.
Caboose: I don't know what's gotten into you, Arcee! You're afraid, Arcee. I can see it in your eyes...or face, but you better figure out the difference between your enemies and friends!
  • Yandere: Airachnid is quite obsessed with making Caboose hers prior to her Heel–Face Turn. Joanes even namedrops this trope after she states that she wants Caboose for whatever purposes she has in mind for him.
Airachnid: You and I will have a private session later, my sweet Vehicon~
  • You Remind Me of X:
    • Arcee reminds Caboose of Tex, Coralina, and Agent Washington for her stern but ultimately well-meaning attitude.
    • Caboose ends up reminding Airachnid of her own deceased little brother Arachne with his happy-go-lucky personality.
