Pokemon Violet: Grape Chat is a Pokémon Scarlet and Violet chatlog fanfic written by oopart. It focuses on the Area Zero gang and their lives after the game, including one Juliana Roadsmith, chaotic gremlin and mad scientist extraordinaire.

The list of characters in the chat are as follows:

  • JustClivin: Clavell
  • TheVeryBest: Juliana (Protagonist)
  • BattleChamp: Nemona
  • SandwichLord: Arven
  • Cassiopeia: Cassiopeia/Penny
  • TheGoodDoctor: Miriam
  • SpawningGround: Elizabeth (Protagonist's mom)
  • LaPrimera: Geeta
  • VaultinVeluza: Kofu
  • NaranjaQueen: Nemona (Scarlet)
  • DubStomper: Giacomo
  • BURNINGJUSTICE: Mela
  • Shinigami: Atticus
  • 0rtega: Ortega
  • TheHeelDeal: Eri
  • MIRAIDON1.0: Miraidon

Pokemon Violet: Grape Chat contains the following tropes:

  • Adaptation Personality Change:
    • Penny is explicitly depicted as a Covert Pervert, a trait that was only slightly indicated in the original game through her Ambiguously Bi status.
    • As a consequence of the above, along with becoming less brash after the events of Area Zero, Arven ends up taking Penny's place as the Only Sane Man of the Zero gang.
    • Mela ends up competing with Atticus as the residential Chuunibyou, with her brand of such coming in the form of being Comically Serious and willingness to resort to threats of violence. Eri even outright calls her an edgelord.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Somehow both played straight and inverted: After getting grievously injured from Operation Ironsights, through the power of mad science, Juliana managed to essentially have her legs removed and replaced with soft-cloned versions of her own legs.
  • Bait-and-Switch:
    • When Juliana is in the middle of distracting Ms. Tyme:
SandwichLord: Let me get this straight.
SandwichLord: You two are using the fact that Juliana, who is factually insane, is occupied, to snoop through her room.
    SandwichLord: And I wasnt invited?
  • Bandage Mummy: Geeta ends up in a full body cast after Elizabeth beat the shit out of her as a result of Operation Ironsights.
  • Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick: In the Q&A, Juliana (supported by the Area Zero gang) reveals that her mother's hobbies include cooking, watching TV shows, painting, and making explosives and military-grade guns.
  • Broken Ace: Much like her Violet counterpart, Scarlet!Nemona is extremely competent and eager for battling, on top of having enough stamina to continue functioning after several days of battling in a row (breaks notwithstanding). She also has been through an extensive Trauma Conga Line that has warped her love for battling into a maniacal obsession and thoroughly convinced her that nothing else matters.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Juliana Roadsmith, one of the strongest trainers in Paldea with a high understanding of her Pokémon, a legitimately brilliant scientific mind with expertise in biochemistry, robotics, and interdimensional physics ... and a certifiably insane lunatic that has, can, and will use her skills with the intent to generate as much chaos as possible.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Nemona frequently takes a bit to catch on to certain aspects of conversations, often due to her hyperfixation on battling.
    • Dramatically Missing the Point: Scarlet!Nemona is slightly less oblivious, but still does not comprehend how the extent of her obsession could be detrimental, to Juliana’s frustration.
  • Disappeared Dad: Juliana's dad is confirmed in the Q&A to be deceased ... specifically by getting diagnosed with terminal cancer, and forgoing medical treatments in favour of getting involved with a police raid that led to him getting gunned down with impunity.
    TheVeryBest: god no
    TheVeryBest: in gratuitously violent fashion
SandwichLord: the more i learn of your life juliana the more i understand you
SandwichLord: and the less i understand how you arent in a padded cell
    TheVeryBest: :)
  • Establishing Character Moment:
    • Juliana has most of her character summarised in 1 sentence:
    TheVeryBest: aw yiss, time to commit m u l t i p l e crimes
SpawningGround: Hello, dears! Time to commit multiple crimes.
SandwichLord: i may have made a mistake
    • Shortly after arriving, Scarlet!Nemona quickly demonstrates their cynicism compared to their Violet conterpart:
BattleChamp: dude la primera is awesome!
NaranjaQueen: if that woman had a penis it would never leave her own mouth, her ego is maintained by constant stroking
  • Evil Counterpart: Scarlet!Nemona is effectively a Nemona who has lost everything except her love for battling, turning her Blood Knight tendencies to unhealthily destructive levels, making her far more cynical to any human relationships, and killing her sense of empathy to others, even her own team.
  • False Reassurance: After finding out that Juliana, in the midst of testing the State that she goes into when in mortal peril, deliberately triggered it by starting a fight with Iron Serpent (a.k.a. Turo's killer), Arven quickly cools down enough to request that she doesn't do that again. She agrees, but ...
BattleChamp: wait does he mean ‘dont fight Iron Serpent again’ or ‘dont put yourself in mortal danger again’?
    SandwichLord: Both preferably
    TheVeryBest: …feWGJNKFNAo
TheVeryBest: I promise, on the fertile grounds of Galar, I will not needlessly pick a fight with the Pokemon Iron Serpent.
    SandwichLord: YOU LITTLE BITCH
    TheVeryBest: :D
  • Godzilla Threshold: Played for Laughs; Director Clavell considers himself to be crossing this when he requests for Juliana's help with disrupting an outing with Ms. Tyme, who is likely seeking to get drunk after Juliana nearly died against the Quaking Earth titan, and admitting to not wanting to deal with that.
  • Heroic RRoD:
    • Nemona undergoes one after battling her Scarlet counterpart for 5 days, to the point that she cannot physically feel anything afterwards. According to Juliana, she essentially did exercise for 12 hours straight for 5 days.
    • After going into what Juliana refers to as "the State" to oppose Scarlet!Nemona long enough for Penny to tase her, Juliana immediately drops upon getting aboard Miraidon.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Lots of it, primarily from Arven, and often in response to Juliana's insanity.
  • Mad Scientist: Juliana, who before the in-game plot has managed to blow up 3 microwaves (not counting the time she microwaved a Fire Stone on purpose) and had once created a semi-functioning portal to the Ultra Jungle as a proof-of-concept. And now she has resources from becoming champion, allowing her to go further.
  • Misanthrope Supreme: Played for Laughs as Juliana returns from her Mushroom Samba:
    TheVeryBest: i liVE
TheVeryBest: and that’s going to be everyone else’s problem
    TheVeryBest: weep for humanity

SandwichLord: it says so much about you
    SandwichLord: that maniacal misanthropy
SandwichLord: is a sign you’re back to normal
  • Mushroom Samba: Due to a factory defect, Miraidon's drool is potentially psychedelic, and the effects are not consistent:
    • Juliana ends up seeing visions based on The Elder Scrolls.
    • Penny becomes an excessively horny loon (even more so than usual) that keeps rambling about eating lightbulbs.
    • Nemona is rendered catatonic, dreaming of the PMD world.
  • Mythology Gag: Scarlet!Nemona's team is effectively in-game Nemona's Quaquaval team after Kitakami, with Tyranitar replacing Quaquaval.
  • Only Sane Man: Arven. When his friends consist of a battle obsessed lunatic, an anxious unsociable recluse with a hidden horny streak, and a chaos-bringing Mad Scientist, he ends up with the unenviable task of consistently being the sanest person in the room.
TheHeelDeal: isnt she [Nemona] the responsible one??
    Cassiopeia: oh god no
SandwichLord: Hi. I’m the braincell of this group. Nice to meet you.
  • Side Bet:
  • Status Quo Is God: Considering that this is a humorous chat fic, expect nothing of value to be learnt in spite of the insanity that the group regularly goes through.
  • Verbal Tic: Arven tends to repeat his statements whenever he's particularly terrified, especially in the wake of Juliana's chaos.
