Fanfic / Little Uzumaki

Go To

Little Uzumaki is a Naruto fanfic by Lucillia. It is an AU set after the Wave Arc where Kakashi takes Team 7 to a rest stop after running out of water through a shortcut, realizing too late it was the spring he was told to never go to. It's Konoha's infamous Fountain of Youth, which turns Team 7 into two year olds. Team 7 are now toddlers and have to grow up all over again! Hilarity Ensues as Team 7 has to be taken in by their respective guardians and still have to take the Chunin Exam.

General Tropes:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: While not ugly, Kushina was a very aggressive one to Orochimaru. He still has nightmares and tries to repress all his memories of her.
  • Abusive Parents: Most of the Hyuuga do not make good caretakers for Sasuke. Hiashi in particular takes the attitude of letting the boy 'cry himself out', noting that if he refuses to eat, he'll either give in once he's too hungry to ignore his body's needs any longer or have to be taken to the hospital and fed intravenously.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Inverted by Obito - he's not evil at all, just an amnesiac and stupid.
  • All-Loving Hero: Even as a toddler, Naruto still has it.
  • Amnesiacs are Innocent: Other!Tobi/Obito hasn't recovered his memory, so is currently a harmless, but destructive, idiot.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Gaara wanted to spare Iruka, Naruto and Teuchi from the invasion because they were the only people to treat him as a person.
    • Sasuke decides to humiliate Neji to defend Hinata's honor. Hinata was the only one nice to him without expecting anything from him in return.
  • Becoming the Mask: Sasuke sometimes acts like the two-year old he currently is, much to his horror.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Iruka's is putting Naruto in danger.
    • Hurting Hinata for Sasuke.
    • Do NOT mess with Naruto's cute little froggy backpack.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Iruka was thought to be too gentle for the shinobi lifestyle. The thought quickly died when Naruto's in danger.
  • Blessed with Suck: The Fountain of Youth will make you young, but it will also regress you mentally to that very age. While all your memories and progress before that age disappears and kills you in a sense. Noted to be why Konoha doesn't bother to keep it a secret from foreign-nin.
    • The Sharingan allows the Uchiha to keep their memories and personality, and are able to perform jutsu but they're physically children.
  • Boring, but Practical: The reason for Iruka becoming Hokage. While he is not the most impressive ninja in the village, he is very good at paperwork and dealing with people. He became extremely feared by Konoha shinobi after he curb stomped Kakashi, Ibuki and Anko and he was the closest.
  • Break the Haughty: Danzo - after he gives Naruto to Kisame, Godaime Iruka beats him up and arrests him, uncovering and disbanding ROOT in the process.
  • Children Are Innocent: Sakura and Naruto are this. Sasuke is not. Neither is Itachi, but he successfully pretends to be innocent, unlike his brother.
  • Cool, Clear Water: Subverted as the water from the Fountain of Youth is cool, clear and drinkable, but cursed and bad to drink for obvious reasons.
  • Collective Identity: Madara and Tobi are seperate people who have the same persona. Madara is Obfuscating Stupidity, while Tobi is genuinely stupid.
  • Cosmic Plaything: Given Sakura's been deaged four times already (consistently ignoring the sign that says to not drink from the Fountain of Youth), Danzo has begun to seriously wonder whether she's under some kind of curse.
  • Creepy Child: Invoked by Sasuke to the Hyuuga Clan to leave him alone with Hinata.
    • Also Invoked by Team 10 - they use Naruto to have other teams give up their scrolls to get away from him.
      • Then Sasuke turns it up a notch after Neji beats up Hinata, to the point that the other Hyuuga thinks he's demonically possessed.
  • Cruel to Be Kind: Downplayed, as Ino had to flick Sakura on the head until she cried and said she quit.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Naruto is adorable as a toddler. Women at the market surrounded him and Iruka, cooing about how cute he was until they found out he's Naruto. Itachi mentally notes that this explains why he was nearly adopted fifteen different times the first time round, with the prospective parents only backing out after realizing he was the jinchuuriki. Kunoichi at the Chunin Exam swarm him as well.
  • Death by Adaptation: Orochimaru dies with the help of four Hokages.
  • Death Is Cheap: Lampshaded by Gai when Tobi goes to Konoha to save Kisame and accidently outs himself as Obito to Kakashi:
Gai: What is it with Kakashi's teammates coming back from the dead?
  • Defrosting the Ice Queen: Naruto and Iruka's kindness mellows out Gaara, to the point that Temari is willing to help Gaara save them.
  • De Program: Iruka's program for former ROOT subjects/agents to bring them back to society.
  • The Diaper Change: Minato thought it would be funny to delegate diaper duty to Danzo. Then Danzo handed Naruto to Kisame.
Kisame: "You're not going to believe this but, a one-eyed cripple handed him to me and demanded I change his diaper."
  • Didn't Think This Through: Orochimaru failed to consider the existence of Minato's Hiraishin technique, or the impact that could have upon his plans.
  • Double Standard Rape: Female on Male: Kushina Uzumaki was a zealous admirer of Orochimaru, and she once dragged him in a bush and nearly forced herself on him. Everyone else thought Orochimaru was taking advantage of her.
  • The Dreaded: Iruka is feared by Konoha, and for good reason after he curb stomps Kakashi, Anko and Ibuki in a fit of drunken rage. Solidified when he fights against Minato and Kisame and wins. Proving that he became Hokage for a reason.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: Kakashi takes to drinking after Team 7 is deaged.
  • Eldritch Location: Downplayed with the Fountain; it can't be contained or fenced off, constantly shifting locations around Konoha. It retains a warning sign that reads CAUTION!: PUBERTY!, but that does little good when others fail to notice it in time or dismiss its warning.
  • Enfant Terrible: Naruto activates the Kyuubi when somebody takes something that belongs to him.
    • Also Sasuke, as well as de-aged Itachi & Madara.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Kisame draws the line at killing defenseless, untrained children; this creates a huge problem for him when he kidnaps Naruto and has to deliver him to the Akatsuki.
  • Exact Words: Team 7 passed the First Exam because they followed the rules: they weren't caught cheating because they can't read or write, and they didn't quit because they didn't know what was going on.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: Kakashi tells Gai and Asuma that Team 7 is participating in the Chunin Exams, despite being toddlers since they probably wouldn't get far. Gai points out they could pass anyway because Team 7 still technically followed the rules.
  • Fearless Toddler:
    • Naruto happily approaches Gaara and his siblings, unintentionally charming him in the process.
    • He also wasn't scared when he was in the Forest of Death or kidnapped by Kisame and Itachi. The latter is justified by them treating Naruto really well, and Naruto only becomes upset when he's away from Iruka too long.
  • Flaying Alive: Once Iruka finds about ROOT after he arrests Danzo for Naruto's kidnapping, he uses his Hokage powers to order Danzo flayed. He then clears his schedule so he could do it himself.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Surprisingly enough, yes.
    • Sakura was actually a contemporary of the Sannin and had run into the Fountain of Youth three times.
    • Just the fact that a Fountain of Youth exists.
    • Orochimaru's summoning of the three prior Hokages goes off without a hitch because Naruto pees on Sarutobi's leg, distracting him at a crucial moment. This turns out to go poorly for Orochimaru because Minato immediately breaks free thanks to his Hiraishin and then turns the other two Hokages against him.
    • Oh, and Obito isn't evil.
  • Fountain of Youth
  • Four Is Death: It's mentioned that one Hidden Village always has rotten luck with Team 4.
  • Fridge Horror: Invoked when Godaime Iruka met the ROOT after disposing of Danzo. He realized that several had been his classmates or students and that if he didn't bring so much attention to himself, he might have also been abducted into ROOT.
  • Happily Adopted: Naruto by Iruka.
  • Hanlon's Razor: Other!Tobi to Pein. Pein thought Other!Tobi was actively destructive and malicious, but Other!Tobi really is that stupid and clumsy. It gets worse when he tries to be evil.
  • Has a Type: Sakura has a platonic variant: Sakura's best friend has always been a blonde: Tsunade, two other people, Ino, and now Naruto.
  • Heir Club for Men: Deconstructed - Hiashi doesn't mind Hinata succeeding, but the Clan Elders are another matter entirely.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Orochimaru resurrects the three late Hokage, only for Minato to turn the tides and turn all three against him, teaming up with Hiruzen to take him down.
  • I'm Taking Her Home with Me!: Gaara hoped to take Naruto home with him to Suna if the invasion succeeded.
  • Irony: After they're de-aged, Sakura hates Sasuke because he's mean to her (not that he cares). Meanwhile, she adores Naruto because he's a sweetheart towards her.
  • I Want Grandkids: Sort of. Sakura's father is starting to despair of EVER seeing grandchildren after the fourth time she gets de-aged. After the third time he told her then-boyfriend Hyuuga Akira that he should have told him to knock Sakura up rather than warning him away.
  • Innocent Inaccurate: Sakura and Naruto mistaken the First Phase of the Chunin Exam for being "Quiet Drawing Time".
  • Keep Away: Jiraiya recalls Sakura and Tsunade playing this game with him as the ball with Orochimaru when she was her original age
  • Kick the Dog:
    • The first time Naruto received a birthday present at the orphanage, Ibuki was called in to confiscate it, as nobody could believe that he'd legitimately been given something nice. Naruto fought in vain to be allowed to keep the toy, leaving scars on Ibuki's forearms; he pettily got his revenge over the following years by ensuring that Naruto didn't get any more presents aside from those few that were handed directly to him.
    • Literal with Other!Tobi as kicking puppies is the safest evil thing he could do, but that has a 50/50 chance of going horribly wrong.
    • Ino unfortunately had to do this to Sakura to force her to quit the Chunnin Exam
  • Kicked Upstairs: Hiruzen tries to give the position to the revived Hokages, but they all refused. Iruka get promoted to Hokage because no else wanted it, he is feared by every one, he can tolerate paperwork... and he was nearby.
  • The Klutz: Other!Tobi to destructive levels.
  • Lecture as Exposition: Shikamaru gives one about why Konoha doesn't make a big deal of the Fountain of Youth.
  • Like Father, Like Son:
    • Sasuke's Troubling Unchildlike Behavior reminds Orochimaru of Fugaku, whom he used to babysit and recalls acting like a 'mini-adult'.
    • While Naruto physically takes after his father, his vibrant and troublemaking personality reminds all who knew her of his mother, Kushina.
  • Loss of Identity: Being deaged by the Fountain causes the victim to lose all of their memories, resetting them back to whatever state they were in the first time round.
  • Loose Lips: Iruka accidentally reveals the identity of Naruto's mother to Gossipy Hens that pissed him off. They start rumors about who Naruto's father is.
  • Lucky Seven: Inverted, Team 7 is cursed and has always ended in bizarre ways. One was electocued in a game of ding-dong-ditch, one drowned a vat of beer, one has crushed to death in a brothel and so on...
  • The Mind Is a Plaything of the Body: While he was spared a full Loss of Identity, Sasuke still fears that his mind has been influenced by the Fountain enough to alter his behavior, as he finds himself reacting to things in childish ways that he didn't intend to act.
  • Minion with an F in Evil: Other!Tobi. Of course, he is an amnesiac Obito.
  • Minor Crime Reveals Major Plot: When diaper duty is passed off to Danzo, he gets out of it by giving Naruto to Kisame, who takes the opportunity to kidnap him. While investigating this, Iruka discovers the existence of ROOT.
  • Most Writers Are Adults: With the exception of Sasuke, when the narrative switches to Naruto or Sakura, they have a two-year old perspective.
  • Mundane Luxury: Konoha as a whole to Gaara, flowers to Temari, tomatoes to Sasuke.
  • My Biological Clock Is Ticking: A woman asked Gai to sire her children, citing this as her main reason. While he initially turned her down, Gai reconsiders while watching Sakura play. Neji, for his part, is just horrified by the idea that somebody wants his teacher to reproduce.
  • Not Hyperbole: Iruka says he's going to flay Danzo alive after he hears about the countless abuses done by ROOT. He then clears his schedule to allow him that.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Madara, when he's de-aged to a seven-year-old by the Fountain.
    • Kakashi, Ibiki and Anko when they invoke Iruka's wrath... scratch that, everyone who knows Iruka's reputation knows that when he's pissed, the best thing to do is to bury your head in the sand and hope he doesn't notice you or think you hurt/upset Naruto.
  • Older Than They Look: Sakura is technically 50 years old, but keeps deaging due to having four accidents with the Fountain of Youth.
  • Papa Wolf: Iruka to Naruto. Although it's Played for Laughs, to the point that people run in terror avoid Iruka's wrath for putting Naruto in danger.
    • Inverted with Sasuke, as Hinata became his mother figure. So when Neji maimed her, Sasuke humiliates him to defend her honor.
  • Paranoia Gambit: Sasuke goes to Neji's room while Neji is sleeping and stares at him in order to make Neji paranoid. Sasuke planned to stop creeping out Neji in order to put him in a false sense of security in order to kill Neji in his sleep for maiming Hinata in the Chunnin Exam. Sasuke fails as Itachi intervenes and the Hyuuga become convinced that Sasuke's possessed.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil:
    • Iruka endorses this trope when he goes after Kakashi, Ibuki and Anko for not watching Team 7, which resulted in Sasuke bullying his toddler teammates into going to the Forest of Death.
    • After finding out about ROOT, Iruka literally skins Danzo alive.
  • Plot Allergy: Nearly half of the Hyuuga Clan are allergic to tomatoes; this poses a problem for Sasuke, who can't enjoy his favorite food at the Hyuuga Compound as a result.
  • Poke the Poodle: Other!Tobi's attempts at being evil.
  • Potty Emergency: "Naruto! Stop peeing in the corner!"
    • When Orochimaru makes the barrier to trap himself and Hiruzen inside, Naruto is still attached to his leg and repiles:
      Naruto: Hafta potty.
  • Protected by a Child: Kisame is protected from Iruka's wrath by Naruto... who mistakes him for a fish.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Neji won in the fight against Hinata, but none of the Branch House wants to associate with him because he ruthlessly beat up the the nice Main House heir.
  • Raise Him Right This Time:
    • Played straight by Iruka, who bittersweetly reflects that the Naruto he knew is gone, but he could now raise him to avoid the problems he's faced before.
    • Subverted with Sakura, since it's the fourth time she has been deaged. Her parents are genuinely stressed out by the repeated scenario and wondering whether they'll even survive long enough to see grandkids.
    • Averted with Sasuke, because he is still the same person despite the situation.
  • Retired Badass: Hiruzen, who actually gets to enjoy his retirement.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Iruka goes on an alcohol-fueled spree, attacking Kakashi, Ibiki and Anko for letting Naruto go to the Forest of Death.
  • Scylla and Charybdis:
    • Neji's fight with Sasuke is this because he can't showcase his skills without beating a toddler and looking like a jerk. If he loses, he looks pathetic.
    • Kisame either becomes Naruto's babysitter or faces execution.
  • Short Cuts Make Long Delays: the founding of the story, if Kakashi didn't try to take a shortcut to get back to Konoha faster, the plot wouldn't have happened.
  • Shout-Out: To Pinky and the Brain:
Ino: Are you pondering what I'm pondering?
Chouji: We use Naruto to try take over the world?
    Ino: What?!
    • To her other work, First Try Series, as Iruka mentions Hibachi, a bully who nearly got Naruto killed and a Shimura who lead a Team 7 who died in a game of ding-dong-ditch.
  • Spanner in the Works: Naruto completely screws over Orochimaru's invasion and ROOT by being deaged and present to the events.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Madara, which was initially due to the fic being written before we learned who Tobi is, but still fits because of the Fountain of Youth.
  • Spoiled Brat: Sasuke invokes this around the Hyuuga because he hates them and doesn't want to seem older than he should be.
  • Stalker Shrine: Kushina had one dedicated to Orochimaru. It creeped out Minato when he moved in with her.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: Before Sakura drank from the fountain for the third time, she was dating Hyuuga Akira. Her parents had tried to warn him away; after learning what happened, her father remarks that he would've suggested he get her pregant instead.
  • They Would Cut You Up: Sasuke fears that if people learned his mind wasn't completely erased by the fountain, he would be stolen away and experimented upon to try and learn how.
  • Uncanny Valley Child: While not unusual considering what Itachi was like a child, Neji notes that something seems off about him.
  • Undead Tax Exemption: Justified as with Obito as it is common with many presumed dead ninja to later be discovered alive. Especially in times of war or conflict.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Gaara when he learns that Naruto is in danger during the Invasion.
  • Wimp Fight: Ino's fight with a two-year Sakura in the chunnin exam was this. As Ino flicked Sakura's head until she quitted.
  • Wouldn't Hurt a Child: Most ninja are this and look down on Neji on having to fight Sasuke.
    • Kisame hestitates at turning in Naruto to Madara since he was expecting to capture and kill a trained Genin, not a defenseless two-year old.
  • You Are Grounded!: Instead of punishing Neji with the Caged Bird Seal for maiming Hinata, Hiashi grounds him and spanked him like a spoiled child.
