Learning from Nightmares is an Audition Online fanfiction written by Alicia Jewel, known as Hanyuchama on Redbana's official forums. It follows 16-year-old Hannah "Hanyu" Jumpoff, the shy adopted daughter of the prestigious Jumpoff family, as she struggles to cope with the loss of her parents while trying to fulfill her duties as The Chosen One destined to defeat the evil Crazy Queen Stephanie. We should note how the main character being the Chosen One is the main plot of Audition's Story Mode.

. Comments can be posted on either tgforums or the official Redbana forums. The story is updated on an irregular basis with chapters taking anywhere from a week to a month to get posted.
Learning from Nightmares provides examples of:
- Affectionate Gesture to the Head: Travis ruffles Hanyu's hair a few times as a show of affection.
- Aerith and Bob: Hanyu and Pluto alongside characters like Bobby, Chloe, Jack, Travis, etc.
- Chapter 5 introduces two Dancers who go by the stage names "Tgfcoder" and "Hackeh." They're introduced with characters named Paul, Gloria, Karen, etc.
- Alliterative Name: Janelle, Jared, Janice, Jack, and Jessica Jumpoff, as well as Travis Trounce. See Alliterative Family below.
- Alliterative Family: The Jumpoff family, excluding Hanyu (which makes sense because she's adopted, anyway).
Word of God says that Travis's family follows the same naming conventions. - Birthday Beginning: The first (and part of the second) chapter takes place on Hanyu's sixteenth birthday.
- Brand X: Most stores and products not taken from the source material are this. Justified because the story takes place in an alternate Earth.
- Character Tic: Hanyu holds her upper arm where her scar is whenever she gets nervous.
- Chekhov's Cat: Chapter 5 reveals that Travis has a cat named Silver. She ends up saving Hanyu and Travis from the Crazy Crew in Chapter 7.
- The Chosen One: Thanks to having parents from another world, Hanyu technically qualifies.
- Cool Big Sis: Janice is one to her adopted sister, Hanyu
- Cool Shades: Travis wears these, even when he's inside.
- Crash-Into Hello: A non-romantic version occurs between Hanyu and Bobby in an early flashback.
- Crush Blush: Hanyu frequently gets one whenever she's around Diego.
- Cuddle Bug: Chloe
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Travis and Hanyu get creamed by the Crazy Crew in Chapter 7.
- Dashing Hispanic: Diego has shades of this.
- Deceased Parents Are the Best: Though we don't know much about them yet, Hanyu seems to have really loved her late parents.
- Dream Sequence: Several of them frame flashbacks of Hanyu's life before the story.
- First-Episode Twist: Hanyu is the Chosen One.
- Fix Fic: Word of God says this story has shades of this to fix the plot holes, inconsistencies, and general silliness of Story Mode.
- Flashback: Lampshaded—Hanyu has several of these in dream form and spends part of the story wondering why.
- Flashback Nightmare: Hanyu has one in the first chapter.
- Glomp: Though not explicitly stated as such, several of Chloe's hugs definitely count.

- Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: Every chapter is named after one of the missions in Story Mode.
- In-Series Nickname: Hanyu, whose real name is Hannah. See Only Known by Their Nickname below.
- Jerkass: Jean, who bullies a shop owner into paying higher taxes and tries to insult Hanyu for being adopted.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Travis
- Loud Gulp: Hanyu does this a lot.
- Magic Dance: In addition to being able to pull off gravity-defying moves that most normal people can't, Dancers can also attack others with their dancing.
- Missing Mom: Chloe's mother died four years ago.
- Only Known by Their Nickname: The only characters who call Hanyu by her real name (outside of flashbacks) are Janelle and Jared.
- Several Dancers are only known by their stage names, as well, like Tgfcoder and Hackeh.
- Orphan's Ordeal: A big part of the story is Hanyu trying to cope with the deaths of her parents.
- Parental Abandonment: Hanyu's parents died in a car accident before the story began.
