Go To

Ben 10: Reincario is a fanfic written by omnimegalander. This fanfic is a crossover between Ben 10 and Pokémon, specifically serving as a Fan Sequel of Ben 10: Omniverse and Pokémon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew.

Nearly 15 years after sacrificing himself to save the Tree of Beginning from its untimely end, Lucario's destiny changes upon meeting a mysterious professor. Now on a brand new world with creatures of every shape and size, Lucario works alongside the hero of the universe, Ben Tennyson, to protect the innocent and fight against powerful villains, both old and new.

Can also be found on Archive of Our Own here.

Ben 10: Reincario provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Not that Lucario wasn't a good fighter in the Pokémon world, but upon his resurrection on Ben's world, Lucario learns a number of other moves alongside his original Aura Sphere and Detect. As of now, the list includes Dark Pulse, Double Team, Life Dew, Extreme Speed, and Metal Sound.
    • Combined with Adaptational Villainy and Adaptational Name Change, this happens to Minitaur (or rather Megataur), as he is instead a massive minotaur-like beast taking Madcow's place in the Alphas and equipped with an axe capable of absorbing kinetic energy.
    • Rook Shar is a downplayed example: she wasn't incapable of fighting in the canon series, but in Chapter 6, she is able to hold her own against Kundo alongside her brother, and she also uses a Revonnah-style scythe alongside her hand-to-hand combat.
  • Adaptational Name Change:
    • As mentioned in Adaptational Badass above, Minitaur is renamed to Megataur.
    • Eye Guy is changed to Oculus, and this is explained In-Universe: seeing the fact that Ben 23 (usually ascribing very uncreative names to his transformations, such as Freezelizard for Arctiguana and Plug Man for Feedback) ascribed Eye Guy to his Opticoid form, Ben figures Eye Guy needed a more creative name.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change:
    • Ultimate Arctiguana is far different from his canon self as used by Albedo, though justified by the fact that Albedo's Ultimate forms were rather different from Ben's forms (such as Ultimate Spidermonkey). Albedo's Ultimate Arctiguana had cannons that could fire giant chunks of ice or use that to propel himself. However, Ben's version is far different, changing into more a Triceratops-like form, having the ability to form ice armor and spikes across his body and breathe out wind blasts with shards of ice to lacerate opponents.
    • Ultimate Swampfire is given a slight shift in powers. He instead moves into the manipulation of trees and wood rather than plants, and can also ignite himself and spray sap. His wood abilities even allow him to manipulate his own arms into weapons, reforming them into blades against Dialga's Mega Venusaur.
  • Adaptation Origin Connection: In this continuity, Paradox tutored Dialga in his Time Master abilities when he was younger, earning him the gratitude of Arceus.
  • Adaptational Villainy: As mentioned earlier, Minitaur, or rather Megataur, is not an ally of Ben, but one of Dr. Animo's Alphas.
  • All There in the Manual: Each time Ben transforms into a new alien, there is a brief cutaway to the alien's Codon Stream entry, its home planet and info about that alien.
  • Babies Ever After: It turns out Joel and Camille now have a son named Derrick, who quickly latches onto Lucario during the celebration of the latter's birthday.
  • Back from the Dead: With help from Ho-Oh and Xerneas, Arceus is able to restore Lucario to life as a result of an agreement with Professor Paradox, sending him to Ben's world.
  • Beam-O-War: The end of the first trial has Mega Venusaur's Solar Beam clash against Ultimate Swampfire's fire stream, with the latter winning.
  • Big Damn Heroes: How Lucario introduces himself to Ben by using Aura Sphere to send Fistrick flying before he could execute a paralyzed Ben.
  • Canon Immigrant: The series is set after the original continuity of Ben 10, but villains from the reboot series have also made an appearance.
    • Lord Decibel and his cronies Bass and Treble.
    • Dr. Animo's Alphas sans Madcow, but she is replaced by a version of Minitaur from the Accidentals.
  • Designated Girl Fight: Julie and Mazuma duel each other while Ben and Lucario go after Billy.
  • Evil Luddite: Kundo as in canon is very anti-technology, but he also has 3 acolytes that believe in his anti-technology rhetoric: Kaala Raijin, Red Nax, and Red Nyiti.
  • Expy: Kaala Raijin serves as one to Thunder. He is the Token Good Teammate of his group, is an honorable fighter and the biggest and most physical powerful, views an animal-based protagonist as a Worthy Opponent, his name references the Japanese god of thunder and lightning, and is revealed to have the power to release shockwaves much like Thunder could.
  • Fake Arm Disarm: What happens to Kundo's Artificial Limb courtesy of Big Chill and Rook Shar.
  • Fan Sequel: Serves as this to Ben 10: Omniverse while also being a crossover with Pokémon, taking place 1 year after the events of the former.
  • Gender Flip: Lord Decibel is instead made a girl in this story.
  • Happy Ending Override: While Lucario and Sir Aaron seemed to be Together in Death at the end of Pokémon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, the story starts by revealing that due to Sir Aaron's actions in sealing him away, Lucario was essentially a wild Pokémon, unable to stay with his master and thus leaving him alone in the afterlife. It's because of this loneliness that Paradox asks Arceus to have Lucario Reincarnate in Another World.
  • "Here's Johnny!" Homage: Sandbox gives one of these in Chapter 9. After slipping into the cockpit of the Mini-Mecha Billy Billions is using, he forms his head first to say "HERE'S SANDY!"
  • Fountain of Youth: Just like before, Billy uses a De-Ager Ray on Ben, turning him back into a 10-year-old, but he also hits Lucario, devolving him into a Riolu.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: What Elena's feelings to Ben ultimately boil down to: she may have feelings for him, but since Julie makes him happy, she's happy for him.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Previously, Ken (Ben 10000's son) had mentioned that in the roster of his Omnitrix were Sandbox, Shellhead, and Snakepit. The first of these three makes their debut in Chapter 9.
    • Gutrot's species name and home planet makes more sense when you remember that Derrick J. Wyatt based him on Koffing. The species name is Koffikauser, and his home planet is Gnizeew XVII (A Sdrawkcab Name of Koffing's evolution Weezing and the atomic number of chlorine (17)).
    • Decagon Vreedle is based on his design made by Derrick J. Wyatt, and the casting of Bill Fagerbakke for the Vreedle sample was based on who Wyatt wanted to voice him.
    • Dialga describes Echo Echo's immunity to sound attacks as an innate form of Soundproof, one of the abilities Pokémon can have that immunizes them to sound-based moves like Boomburst.
    • Lucario wondering if feeding Ben a Revival Herb will strain their relationship is similar to the effects of them in-game, where their bitterness reduces the friendship level of a Pokémon.
    • Lucario also mentions rumors of Bayleef getting affectionate with their vines, a reference to Ash's Chikorita/Bayleef in the anime.
  • Named by the Adaptation:
    • Some aliens have their species and home planet names revealed here.
      • Gutrot's species is revealed as "Koffikauser" and their home planet is Cniweez XVII.
      • The species name of Kickin Hawk is given as "Accipinator", based on the classification of hawks and eagles (Accipitridae) and the Latin word for fighter (pugnator).
    • Lord Decibel (or rather Lady Decibel) has her real name given as Christine Nocturne.
  • Never My Fault: Billy holds this mindset regrading his defeat at the hands of Ben, blaming the other Vengers for the failure of their team but leaving himself utterly blameless.
  • Noble Demon: Kaala is this and a Token Good Teammate compared to his compatriots. He genuinely worries about the future of the Revonnahganders due to the encroaching advancement, shows discomfort attacking an old man, and proves himself an honorable fighter and sees Lucario as a Worthy Opponent, forming a rapport with the Aura Pokémon.
  • No-Sell: In the Trial of Grass, Ben sometimes chooses a form that counters one of the Pokémon's key powers.
    • Echo Echo is unaffected by Rillaboom's Boomburst due to his own headphones, meant to protect Sonorosians from their own sonic screams.
    • Serperior's ability to freeze opponents with a glare proves useless against Wildmutt because he has no eyes and is completely blind.
  • O.C. Stand-in: Two aliens mentioned but never seen, in show and out of it, appear in full.
    • Decagon Vreedle - The Omnitrix's sample of a Vreedle, and a form Ben is shocked to discover he has.
    • Sandbox - The Omnitrix's sample of a Sunasapien from the planet Gaaharko. A sand-based life form, he is a capable manipulator of sand and can morph his sandy body in various ways, such as an Arm Cannon.
  • Oh, My Gods!: Lucario slips into this at times, calling out "Good Arceus!" instead of "Good God!"
  • Original Character: Being a Ben 10 Fan Sequel, new aliens and villains were a given.
    • New Villains:
      • Kaala Raijin, Red Nax, and Red Nyiti are introduced as acoyltes to Kundo.
  • Point of Divergence: Instead of simply going back to playing his games back as revealed in a flashback in "Rules of Engagement", Ben found out what happened from Gwen, pretty obviously horrified at his actions. As such, he is able to repair the relationship between him and Julie, and as such, the two are an Official Couple in the story instead of Ben getting paired with Kai.
  • Reincarnate in Another World: The main plot: Lucario, as a reward for his Heroic Sacrifice and to stave off his loneliness, is reincarnated by Arceus to a new world; the world of Ben 10.
  • Sand Blaster: One of Ben's newer aliens, Sandbox, is this, capable of manipulating of sand and morphing his sandy body like a single-celled organism. The name of the species and home planet also fit this trope: the species name Sunasapien refers to the Japanese word for "sand" (suna), and their home planet Gaaharko references Gaara, the Sahara Desert, and Flint Marko (aka the Sandman).
  • Sentient Sands: The aforementioned Sandbox is this, being a living being composed of sand, its body structure akin to a single-celled organism.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Fistrick robbing a jewelry store for Taydenite is one to Roman Torchwick robbing the Dust store in the first episode of RWBY. It's a bit more apparent when you see that K8-E, the Kineceleran Lucario bumped into, has the same voice actress (Lindsay Jones) as Ruby Rose.
    • The home planet of the Accipinators (Kickin' Hawk's species) is Nacerima L, after the Nacirema from Body Ritual among the Nacirema, a satirical anthropological analysis of 1950s United States. In-Universe, this is because the planet consists of 50 landmasses each with their own environments, causing the species' to change to fit their environments, with Kickin' Hawk being the common ancestor to all of them.
    • Kaala and Nax's conversation about the pronunciation of Earth is a homage to the similar conversation held between King Cold and Freeza in the the 32nd episode of Dragon Ball Z Abridged.
    • Lady Decibel is something of a composite of shout-outs. Her suit is based on a combination of Iron Man from the MCU (A powered armor suit with an A.I. like Jarvis or Friday) and Sonia Strumm (her A.I. is named L.Y.R.A., after Lyra, and her appearance after losing the armor, especially her weapon, takes far more inspiration from her). However, she also incorporates aspects of Ember McClain and Ibuki Mioda, having the make-up of the former and the piercings and hair color of the latter.
    • In her Motive Rant, Christine Nocturne aka Lady Decibel shares a recording of her and her mother's last conversation, and the latter takes a page from Drill Man Sr. in Mega Man: Fully Charged, calling her daughter a "musical misfit" and telling her to become a "woman with a JOB", whereas Drill Man Sr. told his son Drill Man he "upgraded him (i.e. took away his hands and left him unable to fulfill his dreams of becoming a musician) from musical misfit to robot with a JOB".
    • During his fight as Sandbox, Ben points that sand is "...coarse and rough..." and "does...get everywhere".
    • Dialga being voiced by Gary Oldman references the fate of Ignitus from The Legend of Spyro series, becoming the new Chronicler and recording the events of time The author also states that Palkia, similarly, would be voiced by Jeffrey Wright, in reference to his role as Uatu the Watcher in What If…? (2021), though the initial plan was for the latter actor to voice Dialga.
    • During the fight against the Nanite Queen, she declares that she'll punish them, only for Max to retort that anyone who must say they are the king or queen is neither of those.
    • The Nanite Queen's ultimate fate, melting in molten steel, is based on the death of the T-1000.
  • Trial by Combat: Ben finds himself tested by Dialga if he's ready for upcoming threats, fighting against the fully evolved starter Pokémon up to the Galar region. Currently, 1 of 3 has been completed, in the form of the grass trial, with Dialga giving him a Mega Ring and Key Stone.
