"Take to the skies!"
The fourteenth instalment of the Power Rangers Redverse written by Mad Red X 12, using suit designs from Choujin Sentai Jetman. Just recently, the planet Vyram was destroyed by an unknown evil. Escaping their dead homeworld and desperately seeking a new place to live, the native Vylock race plan to set up residence on Earth the only way they know how - by wiping out the human race. Fortunately, there just so happens to be a top-secret organization known as Birdonic, operating from their headquarters beneath the surface of the moon, who are able to fend off the initial Vylock invasion force with their own Red Ranger, Jupiter - a hawk-like alien and last known survivor of the similarly destroyed planet Sabatine, who was hatched and raised on the Birdonic Moon Colony. Acquiring Vylock technology to create new morphers (while also upgrading them to possess a lower electrical feedback so that a human to utilize them), they are soon able to locate four more Rangers to join them - Dexter Commons, a criminal computer hacker who discovered Birdonic's existance and was recruited into their organisation; Petra Ako, a Ordinary High-School Student who was abducted by the Vylock to try and create a bioweapon to wipe out mankind but was rescued by Birdonic; Cyrus Velder, a loner with an incurable condition who witnessed Petra's kidnapping and went to help; and Yuki Lein Rokumeikan, the almost-human princess of planet Rokumeikan, who was sent to Earth to keep her safe from the war occurring on her home planet and met Petra after crashing in a junkyard. Now united, this new team fights as the Sky Squad Power Rangers, fending off the Vylock invaders while along the way gathering new allies and slowly learning of a single person who has been manipulating events from behind the scenes with a horrible motive. The Sky Squad Rangers:
- Jupiter/Red Hawk Ranger: The Hero, an alien resembling a combination of a human and a hawk and the last survivor of the planet Sabatine, which was destroyed by unknown causes fifteen years ago - he himself was hatched and raised on the Birdonic Moon Colony in a laboratory. Deeply loyal to his friends, he has lived with Birdonic all his life and thus has very little knowledge of life on Earth.
- Cyrus Velder/Black Condor Ranger: The Lancer and resident Sour Supporter. A Aloof Ally who witnessed Petra's kidnapping and went to help, leading to his recruitment. Because he has an incurable disease known as Charon Syndrome, he has given up on himself and become a Death Seeker and adrenaline junkie who mainly focuses on the thrill of the battle.
- Dexter Commons/Yellow Owl Ranger: The Smart Guy, a paranoid criminal computer hacker who prior to discovering Birdonic's existance by hacking their computer networks and being recruited into them had not left his Hacker Cave in six months. Possessing TV Genius levels of intelligence, he's able to fix and repair even alien technology with ease.
- Petra Ako/Blue Swallow Ranger: The Big Girl, a Ordinary High-School Student who was abducted by the Vylock to be used as biological material to create a virus to wipe out human life but was rescued by Birdonic and joined them. A bright, cheerful and energetic girl, she tends to act as a big sister to Jupiter and is initally Yuki's Morality Pet.
- Yuki Lein Rokumeikan/White Swan Ranger: The Heart, a almost-human princess of planet Rokumeikan who was sent to Earth to protect her from the Great Offscreen War occurring back home and befriended Petra after arriving, which led to her joining Birdonic. At first an extremely Spoiled Brat, but soon grows out of it and into the role of Team Mom.
- Jeffrey Kensaki/Green Crane Ranger: The first Sixth Ranger, a guitarist for a rock band whose home was transformed into a monster and during the rescue ended up Falling into the Cockpit of the Icarus Megazord, where he found the unused Green Sky Morpher, which he activated, forcing Birdonic to take him in. Naive and awkward, he is initially The Load but soon develops into an effective warrior.
- Sabatine/Silver Eagle Ranger: The second Sixth Ranger, an alien warrior of the planet Dimensia, which was recently destroyed by presumably the same force that attacked V-8. Losing everything in his home's destruction, he came to Earth with only a magical sword that allows him to transform and decided to protect the planet in the hopes of that it may allow him to find the answers to what's destroying planets.
Their Allies are:
- Commander Sara: The Big Good and the pilot of the Tetrazord. The leader of Birdonic who took the role of Parental Substitute to Jupiter to make sure he wouldn't antagonise humans and to fill the void from losing her own son.
And they're up against:
- Valtrex: The Big Bad and the elected leader of the Vylock, who intends to wipe out the human race to provide his species a new place to live on after their home planet was destroyed.
- Vipera: Valtrex's wife and The Dragon.
- Quadrant: The Evil Genius, a Robotic Psychopath built by the Vylock from parts they found during their first scouting mission on Earth.
- Raguem: The Brute, a vampire-like Enigmatic Minion of Valtrex's who was apparently made by Tranza for the invasion of Earth. She's actually Cyrus's missing sister Rani, abducted, empowered and brainwashed by Tranza.
- Insectomom: One half of a Maker of Monsters duo, Vipera's "pet" who produces insect-like offspring from her egg sac that are then used to create the Vylock's monsters.
- Tranza: The evil Tagalong Kid and other half of the Maker of Monsters duo using Insectomom's children and random objects. Later goes Starscream and becomes the Final Boss whilst revealing his origins.
Recurring Power Rangers Redverse Tropes:
- Animal Motifs: Unique for the Redverse, the entire team shares a single one: Birds.
- By the Power of Grayskull!: "Take to the skies!"
- Home Base: The Birdonic Moon Colony for the Rangers, the Donum Tenebri space ark for the Vylock.
- Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: A bird-like alien raised by a top-secret organisation, a suicidal loner with a terminal illness, a Ordinary High-School Student, a criminal computer hacker, and a human-like alien princess. They're later joined by a Renaissance Man musician who ended up Falling into the Cockpit and another avian alien who comes from another galaxy.
- Thememobile:
- Cool Car: The Jet Striker used by the Red Hawk Ranger, which can transform into the Jet Cannon.
- Cool Bike: The Jet Cycles used by the other four main Rangers.
- Transformation Trinket: The Sky Morphers and Zeet's Silver Sword.
Tropes specific to Sky Squad:
- Adaptational Nationality: Aside from the Rangers and all the other supporting characters being westerners instead of Japanese, the Vylock and their allies are all natives to this universe, as opposed to the Vyram, who were all extradimensional invaders.
- Adaptational Nice Guy:
- Valtrex is the biggest example of this in the series, not that it takes much to be nicer that Radiguet. He has semi-sympathetic motives, has a sense of honour, respects the Rangers as foes, and is a pretty friendly guy to be around otherwise.
- Among the Rangers, Cyrus is the biggest example. While he can still be a jerk, he lacks much of Gai's pre-development personality, namely his drug abuse and misogynistic traits.
- Ascended Extra: Insectomom's Jetman counterpart, Dimensional Bug Mother, was a Monster of the Week who was killed off by the second episode, while the former is a major villain who survives the events of the first battle and continues to produce more insects that the Vylock use to continue creating their creatures.
- Law of Chromatic Superiority: Jupiter gets his own jeep, the Jet Striker, and the Eagle Armour Battlizer. His Zord is also the largest of the group's, and he's also the only one of the core five to have superpowers out of his Ranger form (that being gliding and limited flight).
- Megaton Punch: Jupiter's Flying Eagle Fist attack.
- Spared by the Adaptation: In the end, Valtrex, Vipera and the rest of the Vylock are able to leave the war and settle on another planet on the condition of never bothering Earth again. In addition to this, G2 also manages to survive, Ray and Kanna are able to get to the Birdonic Moon Base and avoid being killed, and Cyrus also ends up having his Charon Syndrome cured rather than suffering Gai's stabbing.
