Darth Wiki / Multiverse You Are The Character

Go To

Multiverse: You are the Character is a roleplay started back in December 2011 on the roleplaying site RolePlayerGuild.com. Due to its nature, the cast fluctuated since it first started, but has had a core set of characters, (Tsunade, Greycat, Luka and Yellow 13) who have stuck with it since the beginning, the latter joining a shortly after the start. The actual roleplay is a reboot of an earlier attempt that never made it past the planning stages, and this has been working into the universe's, rather, multiverse's mythology.

To say that multiverse is no ordinary story is an understatement. Rather than a fun plotline based on an original world or one based on someone's work, this one incorporates all of them. Players that apply to the game find themselves sucked in, taking on a form based directly or loosely on their Username, Avatar or Profile Picture. What the cause or reason for this has yet to be determined, but they did find out from a giant termite, the original GM of the first take of the game, now imprisoned in the internet void between worlds, that an item called The Crucible is responsible and was shattered, pieces scattered across different universes, all based on some work of fiction. In each of the worlds that the players visited, their objective was to find and obtain a piece of the Crucible. Each of the pieces look like fragments of faded grey, porous stone.

Since then, they have been having wild adventures across worlds, following and altering the pre-existing plots to find the scattered pieces and, hopefully, get themselves back to the real world.

One unique feature about the roleplay is the way new players join in. Many roleplays will not allow more players to join after it has already started, while others will. Those that do will either have the rest of the players' characters just pretend the new character was there the entire time, or have the new character enter the adventure in some way that ties into the story. But no, not in Multiverse. Instead, a new player's character will literally 'jump right in' at any time even after the adventure has already started (often by falling out of the sky). Literally. Player characters will see the new one who entered their world, and will know that they are another new player. Sometimes one of the 'veteran' avatar characters will explain to the new character that they have been sucked in through their computer, and give them the basic rundown of just what the heck is going on.

Another interesting feature about the roleplay is character development. When the player characters (avatars) obtain a crucible piece from one of the countless worlds, they will be returned to the cyber realm; a vast sea of endless blue hues with many digit streams of code darting about, to and fro. Once there they will be greeted by Termite, the original GM of the roleplay (yet even HE is just as oblivious as the other player characters as to how any of this is even possible). Termite is the one who keeps the crucible pieces for safekeeping, but before taking it he will allow the the player characters to absorb energy from the piece they have collected. This allows them to gain new abilities. Some pieces have more energy than others, however. Sometimes the players get to choose a new ability for their character(s) to gain, sometimes they are chosen by RedxXxDawn (not by Tsunade, her character), or even by another player. Some of the richer, more power-saturated Crucible pieces have enough energy to grant more than one ability to each of the characters.

There are also many questions about Multiverse that have yet to be answered in the story, like how the characters' actions, words and even thoughts are being recorded and posted on the internet for everyone in real life to see. One of Tsunade's guesses is that someone may be out there in the real world making these posts. Such a person in real life could be controlling all of the characters' thoughts and actions by typing them in. Tsunade has had that suspicion due to her acting out of her own personal character at some times, yet strangely she has not acted paranoid about it. There is also the issue with Termite, the original GM of the roleplay. His location is unknown, though after the avatars visit the cyber realm he does poke his head out of a hidden pocket dimension of blank white space, and communicate with them through there. And, of course, there is also the question of how people are even getting sucked into the internet through their computers in the first place.

But not all of the avatars are on the same side, however. While in the world of Nippon (Okami), the players had even been antagonized by two new avatar characters, one being Vegeta from dbz and the other a catgirl dressed in lolita. After a huge fight broke out between them all, Vegeta and the catgirl were defeated. After Vegeta's death, his eyes became empty black voids, and his body appeared to have been possessed by an unknown force. Very little is known of the being who controlled the Vegeta avatar's corpse after his death, but he(it?) denies having controlled Vegeta while he was still alive. He also stated that he needed the crucible pieces for the same reason the player characters seek them. For reasons unknown, he even revealed to the other avatar players where the next Crucible piece was in Nippon just before fading from Vegeta's body. It is implied that this unknown being is the ultimate big bad in the roleplay.

Later in the roleplay, different groups of avatar characters have been hopping to different worlds of their own to collect more pieces. Often for different reasons, and even led by different 'entities.' Because of this the roleplay had to have it own separate threads. Eventually, Multiverse started to get too big for Roleplayerguild.com, so a whole new site for it was developed. It can be found at: http://enterthemultiverse.x10.mx/index.php

    The Original Cast
Of those who first joined, only these four remain. They are the 'veterans' of the group, have been through all the worlds so far.

Tsunade (Redxxxdawn)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Tsunade_4503.jpg
Yes, she is that awesome
Tsunade is the defacto leader of the group, but hardly shows it. Despite being the GM, she doesn't know much else about what's going on than anyone else.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk — Although she does pick up and use a weapon every once in a while, just for fun.
  • Berserk Button — Does not like people who hurt animals, especially cute ones. Especially especially birds. Especially Especially especially parrots.
  • Can't Hold Her Liquor — She doesn't really drink that often, so she hasn't completely adapted to the stuff just yet.
  • Forgot About Her Powers — Not that she had any of Tsunade powers before the start of all this, but she still has to remember all of Tsunade's abilities from the start. They tend to come to her quickly, though.

Luka (Fenix)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Luka_6648.png
Magic and Tech, hand in hand

  • Afraid of Blood: Hates the sight of blood. Forced to ignore it less he ends up dead, but this easily allows his Chaotic form to get out.
  • Alchemist: Able to mix and make potions
  • Born Lucky: normally doesn't get hurt in battle against normal enemies.
  • Butt-Monkey: his relationship with Grey.
  • Magic Knight: Fights with a sword and staff
  • Metal Head: Big fan of having music playing wherever he goes. Keeps him content during R&R time.
  • The Complainer Is Always Wrong: Adverted, subverted and played straight with some parts of his relationship with Grey, enough said.
  • The Corruption: Chaotic side likes to pick on him at times. It's actually harmless.

Grey (Greycat)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Grey_9337.jpg
He who brings chaos
The ever chaotic cat who does things only as he sees fit. He tends to play devils advocate, and doesn't like taking the protagonists side in the world only because they were the heroes in the story, but will still lay down the major ass kicking. He runs on a complex favour system that he has yet to fully explain, and has probably left a trail of rumours about demon cats behind him.

Yellow (Yellow 13)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Yellow_7801.jpg
The Canine Goddess (God?)
The resident sun goddess. Originally a guy, he has adjusted without problem. He can't speak human normally, so Issun does his translating, but Grey can understand him just fine. He is quite handy with the brush, and can and does call lightning down on those who he things steps out of line.
  • Cherry Tapping: Golden Fury (where she urinates on enemies) and Brown Rage (where she takes an exploding dump on them).
  • Clap Your Hands If You Believe: Much like Ammy herself, Yellow's powers are based on belief. The more people believe in her, the more she can use her powers and the stronger those powers are.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Nothing says it more than her laying down and taking a nap when people are giving her important information.
    • Justified considering she's played the game all the way through. Twice.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: She seems to be very distracted by Rao... Justified considering she's really a male.
  • Dung Fu: Taking a dump that explodes like a landmine? Brings a whole new meaning to "holy crap"...
  • Elemental Powers
  • Facial Markings: Which are invisible to everyone besides spiritual people.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Unless you're someone who starts a fight first, you generally have nothing to worry about from Yellow.
  • Heroic Mime: Seeing as she's, y'know, a wolf. Fortunately, Issun is there to function as her mouthpiece.
  • Heroic BSoD: Had one when she thought she killed another avatar. Refused to help in the remaining fight even though the one she targeted had nine lives.
  • Gender Bender: Yellow 13 was a male RPer. The body he's inhabiting is a wolf goddess.
  • I Call It "Vera": All of her Celestial Instruments have names, though she did not name them herself.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Her Divine form. also the only time she's not a Heroic Mime
  • Lunacy: if only because she can summon the moon.
  • Let'sGetDangerous: The powers of a goddess mixed in with the inginuity of his human mind, he's a very dangerous opponent.
  • Magic Tool: the ability to fix any literal Broken Bridge.
  • Meaningful Name: "Amaterasu" literally means "Illuminating Heaven".
  • Shout-Out: Yellow's taken the form of Amterasu from the PS2/Wii game Okami made by Clover Studios. Not Amaterasu the System Lord.
  • One-Winged Angel: Her Divine form. To a lesser extent, her Shirinui form.
  • Reality Is Unrealistic: When Amaterasu, and by extension Yellow, uses Golden Fury, she hikes her leg up in a way that most people associate with male dogs. In real life, whether a wolf hikes its leg or not is dependent on the wolf's position in the pack hierarchy, not its gender. Alpha wolves raise their leg when marking/urinating and subservient wolves squat down to urinate. Some female dogs hike their leg, too.
  • Throw Down the Bomblet: Cherry Bombs.

    The Others

Pemn

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/avatar26585_8_gif_5114.png
The Mad Artist
One of the new Avatars to the join the group, and just about mentally unstable enough to fit into the group. Still in the process of figuring out the extent of his abilities.

Zane (Oxaenn Alcem)

The true alchemist of the group, Zane is another one that fits well with the insanity trend that seems prevelant within the group of avatars. He is somwhat on the antisocial side, and seems more clinically insane that the others who are more on the comically insane side, but whatever.

Grandsword Truth (Grandsword)

Something of an enigma, mostly because he hasn't spoken to Grey much and Grey is the one doing most of the work. He's something of a dependent genius, as in his powers make his brilliant.

Richard (Shoryu)

Much like the character he is based on, Richard is played as a psychotic maniac. Strangely enough, some of the cast remembers a time when Shoryu was a sergal...

  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership, You Kill It, You Bought It: Richards extensive titles are earned based on kills.
  • A Wizard Did It: For some reason, some people remember him as being a sergal at one point, and not a warlock...
  • Battle Cry: "For pony!!"
  • Brick Joke: Richard introduces himself by listing off his numerous titles, and at the end he mentions he's "mayor of a little town up the coast."
  • The Caligula: Though the citizens of his town are pretty used to it, and are thus incredibly jaded towards dangerous situations. This is, of course, because they are already dead.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Cale dubs Richard "Dick".
  • Facial Markings: Above and below his left eye. His bags may or may not count.
  • Kung-Fu Wizard: He's great at physical combat, thanks to some chocolate monk soul.
  • Long List: Richard's list of titles, and tropes compared to the other characters.
  • More than Meets the Eye: Richard's cozy little village up the coast turns out to be filled to the brim with undead citizens.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: He can survive pretty much anything, even a heavy coating of molten lava.
  • Our Liches Are Different: He's nearly invulnerable, even surviving decapitation, and can possess gems. But there's no indication he can reform after complete destruction and has to kill innocents to retain his immortality.
  • Powered by a Forsaken Child: His powers are fueled by the ashes of innocent people he kills.
  • Story-Breaker Power: He's the resident Game Breaker, though it's generally curbed by the fact that he's incredibly unhelpful and not there when he's needed.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: Richard took to singing during his torture sessions. And pointed out that there was still room for an axe by his thigh.
  • Villain Song: Richard gets one of these, "Slaughter Your World", in one of the animations, with the added bonus of it being *taken from a Disney song with the lyrics modified.
  • What Is This Thing You Call "Love"??

mast3rlinkx

Female, caster, and toting a pet robot.

Vasily (Dr Night KOT)

A Russian were-cat (Snow Leopax AKA Snow Leopard and Lynx mix) that prefers to spend time in his Anthro form. The character was created for participation in the Theriantropy Project roleplay and is there as well!

  • Crossover: Vasily comes from other rolelpay - Theriantropy Project run by Greycat.
  • Powers as Programs: Instantly upon arrival Vasily just brings in a PDA, types stuff on it and gets a gun. And then a parachute. And then a waterproof container...

    The Seconds
Apparently, being dragged into the internet once wasn't enough for some people, so they had to do it again, just under a different name. In some cases it is a personality split, in others is a previous incarnation of the user.

Layfon (Zaneko)

A former emperor of an online realm, read forum administrator, he took a break and visited the guild, then got sucked in. Let this be a lesson about shirking work.

Milo Johson (Lunar Sword Omega (LSO))

Another new one, this one straight out of Halo.

Sarah (Rainbow Brush)

Rainbow dash in ever way and form, though somewhat slower than the original.

Volare (UCAVEDI)

The newest guy in the group. He's in the shape of starscream, but has the potential to be a good guy rather than just a back stabber.

    Antagonist Avatar Characters
Not all of the avatar characters are on the same side, unfortunately. There are those who seek the crucible pieces for themselves, and do not want to share any that they have.

Unlike the other avatar characters in the rp, these are not actual players in real life, but in the rp they are considered this anyway.

Vegeta (Over_9000!!!)

  • Can be Trigger-Happy with the energy blasts he fires from his hands,
  • Definitely of a Chaotic Evil alignment,
  • His goal is to take over the Multiverse by Grand Theft Plot Device. But since it's in pieces, he's Gotta Catch 'em All like the other avatars do. But then again, he does not even know if the Crucible can even grant him the power to do that.
  • Before dying, his Last Villain Stand is to stick it to those who did him in by Flipping them the Bird[/URL].

Lyra (Smexxi Kitten 6969)

  • Is a Catgirl with Nine Lives. Yes, they have to kill her nine times to do away with her.
  • Panthera Awesome in her black panther form,
  • Always finds herself making a Last Stand before being killed again.
  • Occasionally does a Faux Paw.
  • Oh, and you don't want to Make her Scream,

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chaos_331.png

Chaos (ChaOs_rules_ordias_druels)

The Only One Allowed to Defeat You- towards truth and particularly his "brother" ordias.

Forthe Evulz- his main motivation, most of the time.

Ax-Crazy-

oho..BIG TIME.

Faux Affably Evil-

has shades of this. despite being utterly ax crazy insane, he's quite able to act civilized, and even engage in a catchy (and often bloody) musical number now and then.

Multiverse contains examples of:

  • A God Am I: Greycat has his moments, particularly when he gets high on chaos. The most recent case resulted in him leveling a good portion of a city, something Luka still hasn't forgiven him for. Also, Gaige has her moments as well, particularly in combat when dealing a ton of damage. She may occasionally yell out things like "I AM THE GOD OF DAMAGE!!!". And there is also Grandsword during the battle with Yami, where he opens the gate and becomes 'Truth.'
  • Applied Phlebotinum: The Crucible, Yellow's ink, Grey's mists, Pemn's pencil, Tsunade's chakra. There are a couple.
  • Author Avatar: The premise and idea behind the entire game is that all the characters are Avatars of the player
  • Awesome, but Impractical: A lot of the cast operates on this principle. Notable examples are Luka's larger scaled spells.
  • Ax-Crazy: The majority of the cast knows little restraint, and will be set off by the strangest things.
  • Butt-Monkey: Luka is this to Grey. In fact, a lot of people are this to Grey at times, but Luka is his regular victim.
  • Drunk on Milk: Greycat once became high as a kite due to Yellow 13's Fertile Feet.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Combat against the party is often very one sided.
  • Furry Fandom: Both Greycat and Yellow 13 are fans. Grey has a full on anthro, but Yellow also her Little Bit Beastly shape as well. Vasily (Drnightkot) has jumped on the bandwagon as well.
  • Genre Savvy: The entire cast really. To the point that people familiar with the work the current world is in tried to predict were the local piece of Unobtainium would be.
  • It's Raining Men: How new players arrive most of time. Some are more flashy, by they tend to just fall out of the sky.
  • Meta Guy: Greyct. He can even see that he's just in a game, and can even go and read the threads.
  • Plot Coupon That Does Something: The Crucible Pieces. There is only one piece per universe, and they cannot be fully used until all are collected anyway. They also bestow some additional powers to the party when they collect them.
  • Running Gag: Each time the group is sent from the Cyber Realm to a new world, they often just-so-happen to be dropped off into someplace undesirable.
  • Useless Useful Spell: One of the powers of GreenSprout is to create temporary trees out of thin air. While this is barley if ever used in Okami proper, in this game, it has considerably more uses including by not limited to Giving Volare, a Transformer, a constant and unlimited supply of fuel, slightly damaging enemies, providing shade in an instant, unlimited sources of firewood, getting a person to a higher vantage point instantly, and many others.
  • Story Branching: The side story Multiverse Antagonists is this, bringing new faces like Yuri from red alert 2 and old faces like chaos.
