Finally, a trope page for f*dged up gamers!

Tony Zaret is a comedian, satirist, YouTuber, and social media personality who plays the part of a man in his forties trying to make relatable internet content.

In addition to his videos on YouTube and memes on his social media accounts, Zaret has also starred in Hatched's Raduate School and Relatable Content. The latter acts as a sort of Origins Episode for his work now.

What's up cool gamers, let's list some fr*ggin tropes!:

  • "I Am" Song: In "Big Chungus Ooh Nah Nah", Big Chungus describes both what he is and the role he plays in the Zaretverse as the funniest meme.
  • Angry White Man: Often parodies bad "satire" that panders to them; and plays one in the forms of Jongulo and Jonathan Commentar. (More emphasis is placed on gender than race however)
  • As Himself: In "Relatable Content" and most current videos, when he's not playing Jongulo, Brongulus, etc.
  • Author Appeal: Steam Punk, Nu-Metal, and Markiplier m-preg fanfiction for some reason.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: The way Tony processes and regurgitates information is... odd, to say the least.
  • Darker and Edgier: The "Munions"; "not your grandma's minions!"
  • Deadpan Snarker: Parodies content creators who try to force this with "My Awkwardsauce Life" and "My F*dged Up Stories".
  • Death Is Cheap:
    • Smoka Wagga dies and goes to H*ll in "I DIED from watching a cringey TikTok". All he has to do to get out is tell Satan "Ahhh I don't wanna be in H*ll!" and he's alive again.
    • People who go to Heaven or Gamer Heaven have a "Reincarnation Option", which includes the option to be "reincarnated" as yourself the exact time and place you died.
  • Disco Dan: A contemporary variant; Tony was supposedly the cheif Nu-Metal correspondant on an entertainment website in 1998, and sometimes tries to bring that into his current content.
  • Dull Surprise: Tony's reactions to being attacked, insulted, frightened, mutilated, sent to H*ll, or tricked into eating soybeans are often a deadpan "Aaah. Oh no. I-I'm being [insert bad things happening]. Ahh."
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Tony, in "Relatable Content", being reluctant to take on culture war stuff. In subsequent videos and memes, he's a full-on card-carrying edgelord conservative.
  • Eagleland: His sketches in Mandarin dip into this: one has a fat American's head exploding after drinking ice water (reflecting the Chinese folk belief that cold drinks are bad for you), another has an American whose house has posters of hamburgers on the walls and is scared of The Grinch
  • Everyone Is Bi: As reactionary as a lot of the characters are, they all seem to, as a no-brainer, regard hot chicks, the idea of being married to PewDiePie, and pregnant Markiplier fanfiction as equally sexy.
  • Fictional Country: Bajookieland is the most recurring one, followed by Bajongistan and Bajongistan 2. They exist geographically smack between Europe and the Americas, and their culture is vaguely eastern European.
  • G*sh D*ng it to H*ck!: Inconsistently; he uses real swears alongside tame substitutes like "Fudged up", "heck", etc. But he censors them all.
  • He-Man Woman Hater: Tony, Brongulus, Jongulo, and Smocka Waga all have shades of this, of the "views men as a marginalized group" variety. They often complain that there aren't enough movies or video games for guys. (In Tony's case, it may be less actual conviction and more trying to ape the content he absorbs)
  • Immigrant Parents: Some of his videos involve Bajookinese-Americans farming their immigrant parents for social media clout.
  • The Old Country: Bajookieland is a large island between Europe and America; but the culture and accents resemble Eastern European stereotypes.
  • Malaproper: Tony pronounces most names wrong; "Pew-doh-Pie", "Mark-o-player", "Bruce Sprungsteen", etc. He also seems to have a tenuous grasp on the English language in general, adding pluralizing "S"s to singular nouns and neglecting it in plurals ("Its Ronald McDonalds!"/"I am going to get hamburger from McDonald"), avoiding article adjectives, and throwing grammar rules out the window in his memes.
  • The New '10s: Tony starts trying to make "Relatable Content" for 18-24-year-olds in about 2018, so most of his stuff is based on that decade's culture.
  • Parental Neglect: Tony often ignores his son Bunguloj in favor of making content. Comes to a head when he discovers the "childfree" subreddit and walks out on him completely.
  • Parental Sexuality Squick: SmockaWaga is grossed out when his mom asks him to send her the video of Sexy Spiderman so she can "get h*rny".
  • Piss-Take Rap: Brongulus's raps, particularly his "funny rap for geeks".
  • Poe's Law: Somewhat bewilderingly, some people take Tony's content at face-value. He explains the concept here as "It's impossible to tell if anything is a joke on the internet".
  • Potty Failure: Billie Eilish the famous singer suffers this after eating a raw hamburger. Unfortunately, the "Big Chungus" (meme of fat Bugs Bunny) is on the toilet.
  • Proud to Be a Geek: Being a gamer/geek as opposed to a "normie" is a badge of honor in his content.
  • Serious Business: Memes, gaming, and making f***dged up content for guys/geeks.
  • Spoof Aesop: The moral to a story about a guy whose "B*ttom" hurts and asks for a nurse to check it is "NURSE is a MAN with a HOOK!"
  • Strawman Political:
    • In-Universe: Tony and his characters are frequently at odds with "woke libcr*ds" who speak in whiny voices and want to ban video games. Especially prominent with the Wokemyns.
    • Out-of-Universe:
  • Stylistic Suck: The style of his videos. Taken up to eleven in the Chinese sketches, where his pronunciation is stiff and stilted like he's reading off a cue card.
  • Take That!!:
    • Johnathan Commentar and this video were created out of frustration at people who think his obvious shitposts fall unto "Poe's Law".
    • His entire brand is based on mocking vapid, self-important 2010s internet and meme culture.
    • "My Awkwardsauce Life" and "My F*dged-Up Stories" are pretty scathing parodies of "story-time" animators, portraying them as insufferable, self-centered self-declared introverts who try to force a quirky personality.
    • Calls out Epic Rap Battles of History and similar shows for "making characters rap" instead of telling real jokes, and directly calls them annoying.
    • His Chinese sketches can be seen as one to Bart Baker and other over the hill internet celebrities who have attempted to restart their careers in China, showing them as out of touch with Chinese culture, barely knowing the language, and awkwardly attempting to pander to their audiences with "wacky American" stereotypes.
  • They Killed Kenny Again: One of the Funny Twins, Brett or Bre-at, almost always dies at the end of their videos, only to be back in the next one.
  • The Rival: Christopher "Smocka Waga" Hamburger and Jongulo constantly criticize each other's content.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: Jongulo realizing that he's the #1 Simp of the Week after leaving his stream to give money to A Girl.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: In "Relatable Content", Tony was a kind but out-of-touch Gen Xer just trying to keep his job. In subsequent content, he becomes a full-on reactionary who relishes the idea of trolling "libcr*ds".
  • Totally Radical: Tony is in his forties and woefully out of touch with the Millennial and Zoomer crowds, but he still tries to speak their language.
  • Trademark Favorite Food:
    • On Twitter and Instagram, Tony often posts about how much he loves "epic bacon".
    • Soy beans are the liberals'.
  • Unexplained Recovery:
    • Smocka Waga is turned into a soccer ball and forced to be kicked by Riddler for eternity in "I Just Discovered 'YouTube P***' Videos!". Apparently he got out of this somehow, because he continues to make videos afterwards.
    • In "I'm Dead (NOT clickbait)", Tony is drone-striked by Joe Biden for saying Talley Hall was mid; The video ends with him going to H*ll. He's back no worse for wear later.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: "If Rap Was Invented Today" is this to Yesterday (2019).
