Multiple characters

  • Fun with Acronyms: Each character's sign-off is a phrase about their story, which is an acronym for a relevant word.
  • Meaningful Name: The acronym pseudonyms relate to the letter-writers' stories.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: The site is anonymised.
  • Shout-Out: The acronym naming system is a reference to Dan Savage's "Savage Love" advice column. The title of the collection is from the poem "Tomino's Hell", and translates to "without even flowers".

DOLLARS mods - Nakura, Kanra, Chrome, Kuufutarou

  • Dramatically Missing the Point: Their advice isn't always right or useful; for example, they tell Rika she should reconcile with her neglectful mother and admit fault.
  • We Help the Helpless: The site was set up to provide advice people might struggle to get elsewhere, as Japanese society isn't very open about abuse or mental health problems.

Desperately Avoiding Daughter (Nitta Yoshifumi)

Mere Antecedents Shouldn't Termine Everything, Right? (Waver Velvet)

  • Honor Thy Abuser: In spite of hating his professor for what he did to him, Waver saw him as a mentor and didn't want him dead.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Kayneth took the issues between him and his fiance out on Waver.
  • Sadist Teacher: Kayneth not only humiliates him like in canon, but he rapes him multiple times in his office.

No-one's Ever Even Tried (Urushihara Hanzo)

  • The Dog Bites Back: He pushes his assailant off a high roof.
  • Unreliable Narrator: He doesn't tell the site mods that he killed his abuser, instead claiming he tied him up and left him for the police to find.

Kinda Intimate, Not Knavish (Gakupo)

  • Bondage Is Bad: Averted in actuality, but the assumption is why he was assaulted, as a supposed punishment for his kink.
  • Safe, Sane, and Consensual: Gakupo is written as having a rape kink, and is very adamant this trope be applied every time.
  • Safe Word: Gakupo's is apparently "eggplant".

Does Every Villain Inspire Later Sorrow? (Norman, Vincent, Barbara, Ayshe)

Quite Unlikely I'll Ever Tell (Japan/Kiku)

  • Department of Child Disservices: Part of the reason Kiku never told anyone what had happened was because some of his mother's adoptees were dubiously-legal refugee kids. If the family was investigated for anything their mother would have been arrested, and Yong-soo might have been shipped back to North Korea and almost certainly would have died there.
  • Forced to Watch: Kiku shared a room with his foster brother Korea/Yong-soo; their mother's boyfriend sneaked in and molested Yong-soo and Kiku didn't dare let anyone know he'd been awake and seen it.
  • Happily Adopted: The OC mother of China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau adopted Korea, Japan, and Vietnam, and Japan says their life was mostly pretty happy despite some conflict.
  • Obsessively Normal: Kiku tries to force Yong-soo to suppress his queerness, foreign-ness, and neurodivergency in the hopes that he won't be noticed and hurt again. Yong-soo doesn't know why he's doing this and resents him for it.

Very Expensive Non-Uterine Sister (Kanamori)

  • Blackmail: She’s been threatened with both herself and her friends being trafficked should she try to go to the police.
  • He Knows Too Much: Subverted; Kanamori didn’t actually know anything about her husband’s actual business, but Peter seems to think they’re a threat regardless.
  • Shame If Something Happened: Said word for word by Peter, in regards to Kanamori herself.
  • The Villain Knows Where You Live: Peter was murdered in their home and Kanamori's received threatening letters.

Wanted Old News, Didn't Even Realize (Rika Kawai)

  • Bungled Suicide: She tried to jump off a bridge after getting attacked by muggers and survived.
  • Parental Incest: Her father drunkenly assaulted her while she was asleep.
  • Trauma Conga Line: She gets assaulted by a bar patron, her own father, and muggers, all within the span of two days.

Like Everyone Failed Them (the demon family)

  • Ascended Extra: The characters were originally unnamed minor antagonists. They’re much more fleshed out in the fic.
  • Bestiality Is Depraved: Junichi makes reference to the crueller guards targeting him and is now terrified of dogs due to what they did.
  • Blackmail: The Ark forced the two oldest brothers to work as guards to prevent their younger siblings being taken as merch.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Junichi admits that Hazel reminded him of his younger sister, and that was what triggered his protective instinct.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Junichi and Ryuki were willing to commit a kidnapping, but do the absolute minimum of harm while working as guards.
  • For the Evulz: Most of the Ark guards wanted the job, and Junichi and Ryuki become outcasts and targets for being too nice.
  • I Lied: Some of the guards offer Makiko info about her brothers in exchange for sex acts, only to reveal they don't actually know anything.
  • Knight Templar Big Brother: Downplayed, but they were willing to kidnap a random child and work for a sex trafficking ring if it meant helping their younger siblings.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Are unnamed characters in the media they come from, but are given names here; Junichi, Ryuki, Makiko, and Sachio.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: Ryuki and Abdul had queerplatonic feelings for each other and were planning to raise the kids together if they ever got away from the Ark.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: They were originally killed off, but they’re alive here. Of course, given the details of why they were kept alive…
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Literally, Junichi was tortured with snakes by the rebelling Apex kids. He also has a phobia of dogs for similar reasons.
  • The Workaholic: The family's mother died of karoshi, exhaustion caused by trying to keep up with Japan's strenuous workplace culture.
  • Wouldn't Hurt a Child: Played with. The two older brothers are forced to hurt kids, but hate doing so, and each picks a favourite they try to protect - Hazel and Ayshe.

Getting On After That (Mother Goat)

  • Mama Bear: As in canon, she tases and murders Natsuki's father to protect them and her own kids.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Adopted Natsuki to deal with the grief caused by Toruku's death, even calling them "Toruku". Deconstructed as she knows this is bad and is trying to see Natsuki as their own person.

Lies In Our Network (Yasuho Hirose)

Robbed Of Body Or Thought (Kaai Yuki/Cyborg Noodle)

  • Body Horror: Yuki has plastic surgery and growth hormones forced on her.
  • Composite Character: Yuki was forced to replace Noodle, and trauma and forced surgery made her act and move in a robotic manner.
  • Forced to Watch: They're living in close quarters on a boat so Yuki is able to hear all the abuse Murdoc inflicts on 2D.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Noodle disappeared, so Murdoc bought Yuki as a replacement both for the band and for his own emotional benefit.
  • Room Full of Crazy: Yuki carves "I AM YUKI KAAI" all over the walls of the closet she hides in.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: Believes this herself. Despite wanting to go home, she believes she can’t even if she finds a way to do so because her parents wouldn’t want to see what she’s become.

Mistreater Or Not, Still Tried Enforcing Romantic Scenarios - Longings Are: Marriage, Intimacy, Atonement (Miia); Haven't Actually Remembered Panything, Yay? (Papi); Childhood Expectations Now Trigger An Unsavory Reaction (Centorea); So Long Inside, Mistakes Easy (Suu); Melancholy Experiences, Romantic Misfortune, An Infatuation Doomed (Meroune); A Really Awful Cliche Has Negative Effects (Rachnera); Death, Unavoidable, Loves Lamentations, Anguish: Hades' Abiding Nestmate (Lala)

  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Papi's distractability, poor memory, and tendency to wander off alone leads to her being abused and not even remembering it happened until she miscarries.
  • Bunker Woman: Suu spent her childhood locked in a basement and only escaped when she killed her captor.
  • Chairman of the Brawl: Meroune beats her assailant to death with her own wheelchair.
  • Double Standard Rape: Female on Male: Averted; the girls realise their behaviour towards Kimihito is wrong and ask DOLLARS for help to stop.
  • Easy Amnesia: Papi completely forgot that she was raped, possibly because of the trauma.
  • Funetik Aksent: Suu's awkward grammar and limited vocabulary and Lala's strong Irish accent are transcribed directly.
  • Hates Being Touched: Played with. Centorea is Jewish and grew up practicing shomer negiah, meaning she's not supposed to make physical contact with men at all. She still very much wants to be affectionate with Kimihito, but hates herself for wanting it and lashes out if contact is made.
  • Large Ham: Lala is really melodramatic in her reminiscing about her early life.
  • Late Pregnancy Realization: It took the miscarriage for Papi to realize she even was pregnant.
  • Only Sane by Comparison: Lala is as out there as the rest of the cast, but she was the first to notice their mistreatment towards Kimihito and call them out for it.
  • Stylistic Suck: Papi's typing is terrible, and Miia directly transcribes Suu's very awkward, halting speech.
  • Wild Child: Suu was kept prisoner in a basement for her whole childhood and only ever interacted with her abuser, so she has no social skills or self-preservation instincts and can barely talk.

Justifying Our Journeys Onto Strangers - Brotherly Love Out Of Defiance (Jonathan Joestar), Hateful Evil, Ruthless Mob, Inhumanely Targeted (Joseph Joestar), Suspicious Threats Are Real (Jotaro Kujo), Dreary In Anticipation, Mulling On Nearing Death (Josuke Higashikata), Gameplanning Obsessively, Loneliness Devouring (Giorno Giovanna), Outsider: Critical Emergency, Abortion Necessary (Jolyne Cujoh), Truly Uncertain: Seeking Knowledge (Johnny Joestar), Surgery On Four Testicles & Weirdness Ensuing Thereafter (Josefumi Kujo/Yoshikage Kira), and Now On-alert, Very Evil Malicious Bastard Enacted Revenge (Jodio Joestar)

  • Adaptation Name Change: Jolyne is now Joel since he's a trans man and Josefumi is Jou.
  • Blended Family Drama: Jonathan got along with his stepmother, but his stepbrother Dio had rebellious and violent tendencies, which escalated to assaulting Jonathan, and the parents didn't want to punish him because his bio father was abusive and they felt he'd been through enough.
  • Brother–Sister Incest: A stepsibling variant; Dio molested Jonathan out of anger.
  • Career-Ending Injury: Johnny became paralyzed from the waist down when Blackmore shot him in the spine. This, combined with him stopping physical therapy, put an end to his horse jockey career, and he's not sure what to do with his life now.
  • Forced from Their Home: Giorno's parents kicked him out because they didn't believe him about his school being shut down due to the staff being part of The Mafia.
  • Half-Breed Discrimination: Jotaro was made fun of for being mixed Caucasian-Japanese, and Angelo attacked Josuke and Josefumi for the same reason.
  • Related Differently in the Adaptation: All nine of the Jojos are first cousins. Jotaro and Joel are Giorno's half-brothers.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Both Josukes are twins, Johnny is Joseph's younger brother, and the Green Baby is Joel's child from Sports Maxx.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Joseph is a drag queen and was on his way to a Drag Queen Story Hour at the library when protestors attacked him and his friends.
