Authorities' Operatives(All folders here contain unmarked spoilers.)

    In General

EMBER

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/unordinaryember_3.jpg
A shady organization inside of the Authorities that has been killing vigilantes. They are in reality, a clandestine cell of the government that aims to maintain the corrupt status quo through any means, especially via murdering potential dissenters in society.
  • Absurdly Sharp Claws: All EMBER operatives are granted Flame Claws as part of their arsenal of artificial abilities.
  • Calling Card: EMBER leaves a flame sigil behind on the corpses of anyone they kill.
  • Coat, Hat, Mask: EMBER operatives share the same black coat, black hat, and black mask that obscure their identities.
  • Combo Platter Powers: Thanks to having multiple powers, EMBER agents can easily eliminate almost any target given they live in a world where everyone is expected to have only one power.
  • Evil Wears Black: They wear all-black clothing which both highlights their sinister nature and enhances their stealth.
  • The Ghost: EMBER's attacks are only ever mentioned in gossip, or seen on televised newscasts. There are hints here and there of certain characters that might have connections to EMBER.
  • Government Conspiracy: They are the resident Secret Police who take care of any powerful dissenters to preserve the government's power over society. They are also responsible for creating terrorists, through their Amplifier dealing, to legitimize the actions of the Authorities to the public.
  • Hero Killer: One of their jobs is to kill vigilantes.
  • Power Level: Both Volcan and Brimms are confirmed to be god-tiers. This is justified as their artificial powers consume a great deal of aura compared to their in-born powers so only subjects at high or god-tiers would have the necessary aura reserves to utilize their new abilities.
  • Professional Killer: They are the government's private hitmen, who primarily target insurgents and undesirable figures that could threaten the Authorities' hold on the world and they are terrifyingly effective at their job.
  • The Reveal: EMBER is a secret organization run by the Authorities, whose purpose is to kill those who threaten the status quo.
  • Secret Identity: EMBER agents use their legitimate government jobs to obfuscate their true role behind the scene. The most prominent example being Valerie, aka Volcan, Arlo's aunt.
  • Super-Empowering: Thanks to access to Conversion Technologies, all EMBER agents are granted a slew of abilities taken from past victims to enhance their already potent lethality.
  • Walking Spoiler: Knowing that they're an organization within the authorities isn't made clear until late into Season 2 Part 1.
  • Wolverine Claws: Flame Claw seems to be the standard-issue artificial ability given to all EMBER field operatives. The power is not only practical, it also serves as a makeshift branding iron for members to leave their organization's signature calling card.

    Valerie

Valerie/Volcan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/valerie_5.png
CLICK for Valerie's masked appearance
Power Level: 7.5
Superpower: Barrier note

She is Arlo's aunt who is a member of the authorities and is in the Department of Anti-Terrorism. She instilled his respect for the authorities in him at a young age. She's also secretly one of Ember's top operatives under the codename, Volcan.
  • Barrier Warrior: Her true ability is to create diamond-shaped barriers which can block, trap, reflect, and assault her opponents. Her barriers have the same properties as Arlo's, which she takes damage if her shields are damaged or destroyed.
  • Broken Pedestal: She becomes this once Arlo learns the person whom he idolizes is a remorseless assassin who actively perpetuates his society's oppressive status quo.
  • Color-Coded Characters: Yellow Green, similar to her nephew, Arlo.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Yellow-hair with yellow-eyes.
  • Dark Action Girl: Unlike Waldo and Alana, Volcan puts up a good fight against Remi to the point of Blyke and Isen needing to step in to rescue Remi and retreat. Unlike other characters, she's also seen using multiple powers combining sharp claws with fire.
  • Disappointed in You: She has immense expectations for Arlo, but as the plot of the story unfurls, their perspectives begin to clash.
    • Volcan states her disappointment to Alana before finishing her off.
    • During her fight with Remi, Volcan shows disappointment again by calling out Remi as someone who despite still being a young girl with a lot of future potential, chose to waste it by going down the superhero route.
    • In her meeting with Remi and Arlo, Valerie denounces that Rei also wasted his potential when he became a superhero.
  • Establishing Character Moment: As an introduction, Volcan fatally stabs Alana in the chest to show that she's a cold-blooded killer.
  • One-Hit Kill: When Volcan stabbed Alana, she ended up killing Alana.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Once she learns Arlo can get in contact with Seraphina, she takes advantage of his desire to help Seraphina to organize a sting operation and gives him credit in front of her to make sure that any trust she has is shattered in him. And when Arlo gets ready to speak up, she threatens to throw him in prison as well. All so that he can only work with the Authorities from now on.
  • Power Level: 7.5 God-tier.
  • Real Name as an Alias: Downplayed, three known EMBER operatives have the same first letter as their real name.
  • Secret Identity:
    • It was once largely theorized and suspected, that Volcan is John's mother, due to her eye color matching the eye color John has when he activates his ability, her strong Anti-hero beliefs, as well as her ruthless nature resembling John in many ways, possibly being the source, however, this is now unlikely due to another theory.
    • When we first see Arlo's aunt, many fans speculate that she is Volcan. It is eventually confirmed in Chapter 234.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: She shares her nephew's tall stature and hair color.
  • Walking Spoiler: She is revealed, later, to be Arlo's aunt, a member of the authorities.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Once she sees that Alana is a disappointment for losing to Remi, Volcan kills her.

Superpower: Botanist note

Byron is a member of the Authorities working as an officer. He is responsible for killing Rei alongside Volcan.
  • Bound and Gagged: He'll attempt to capture his targets by binding them with his Botanist power thorn vines.

  • Faux Affably Evil: Tries to be polite towards multiple people, but this is only a facade for the sadistic assassin underneath.
  • Green Thumb: His Botanist power is nature themed where he fights by shooting off thorn vines.
  • High-Voltage Death: When Brimms used lightning against Kurt and his goon, he ended up shocking them which surprises the vigilantes.
  • Killing in Self-Defense: Kurt and his gang tried to attack him, but Brimms ended up killing Kurt and his gang.
  • One-Hit Kill: Did that towards Kurt and his gang by defeating them in one hit.
  • Power Level: 6.0 God-tier.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Given that Byron's a Bureau agent, he tends to wear a nice government suit. He wears this when he tries to arrest Seraphina.
  • Vine Tentacles: His power is based around firing off thorn vines.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: When the criminal Kurt ends up betraying him he coldly kills him and his men. In his defense; however, Kurt attacked first.

    Farrah

Farrah/Fury

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fury_5.png
Power Level: At least high-tier
Superpower: Sleep Aura note

Farrah is a member of the Authorities. She is one of EMBER's agents.
  • Braids of Action: As Fury, she sports a very long braid, and she serves as an EMBER operative. Part of EMBER operatives' combat-related tasks that they kill people who cannot buy amplifiers and vigilantes.
  • Color-Coded Characters: Green
  • Dark Action Girl: Another competent vigilante killer like her EMBER colleagues.
  • Forced Sleep: Her ability allows her to cast out an aura that puts her opponents to sleep. Those who have a higher Power Level have stronger resistance against the sleep effect.
  • Hellish Pupils: Fury has red cat-like pupils which is rarely seen in UnOrdinary world.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Has glowing red eyes when activated and is dangerous towards the vigilante group.
  • Sadist: She rather enjoys torturing and fighting vigilantes.
