Spectre

    Spectre

In General

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/unordinaryvankillers.jpg
Spectre's appearance as mysterious van attackers in Season 1

An organization that developed an ability disabler at some point. However, some of the executives had second thoughts on what to do with this drug. Their current goal is stalking and disabling high-tiers.

  • Badass in Distress: Many of Spectre's targets tend to be this as they kidnap high-tiers.
  • Car Fu: One way they attempt to kill someone is a Surprise Car Crash with their vehicle on their target.
  • Choke Holds: He forced one of his kidnapped assets into choking Melvin with his Domination.
  • Hero Killers: They seek out people with powers, such as Seraphina, and try to get rid of them.
  • Hostage Situation: One manages to take an unconscious Seraphina captive and tries to take her back to the van. Unfortunately for the killer, Arlo traps him in his barrier with John, which leads to the killer threatening to kill Seraphina if John and Arlo don't let him go. It takes John and Arlo pretending to be in an argument for the killer to lower his guard just enough for John to Flash Step at the killer, and break him away from Seraphina.
  • Mooks: They have many unnamed lesser soldiers fighting for their cause. Especially in Orrin's villainous Spectre faction.
  • No Name Given:
    • They are unnamed until Chapter 213. Before this, they are referred to as the House Invaders.
  • Playing with Syringes: They stab people with syringes to put some form of substance into their target that makes them lose their power.
  • Power Nullifier:
    • Spectre is equipped with equipment called ability dampeners that can weaken someone's ability by half.
    • They also have some sort of syringe that they stab people with in order to force some sort of liquid into the target's body that ends up taking away their power.
  • Sinister Silhouettes: Many of the mooks appear grayed out, sometimes have a bandana hiding their face, and are never seen in colored form. This is different however during the Rowden assault, where many are colored in.
  • Sinister Suffocation: After Orrin commanded Rein and a Spectre victim choking on Melvin, these two were freaked out over killing that person.
  • Thinking Up Portals: One person amongst Spectre can make a portal hole in nearby walls to walk through, and escape if there are signs of trouble.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Spectre in general, especially those of Orrin's faction, take no issue with putting children in danger. Especially those that are higher-tiered.
  • Your Terrorists Are Our Freedom Fighters: are labeled a terrorist organization by the Authorities and are generally perceived as such by the public, but as the main characters get to know Spectre better through members friendly to them, they learn that their main goal is equality/abolishment of the societal power hierarchy system. That said, not everyone in the organization is so noble or altruistic.

Orrin Faction

    Orrin (Unmarked Spoilers

Orrin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/orrin_277.PNG
Power Level: Unknown note
Superpower: Dominion note

One of the executives for Spectre and also Terrence's boss. He is the most power-hungry of them and acts as an enemy to John and Seraphina.
  • Astral Projection: One application of his ability in the event he needs to take more direct actions with a victim.
  • The Charmer: How he generally manipulates his potential minions.
  • Code Name: It's implied that Orrin isn't his real name.
  • Color-Coded Characters: Beige
  • Disappointed in You: Shows disappointment in Leilah for betraying him.
  • Evil Is Petty: Places a kill order on Seraphina after she interferes with his plans, ignoring the fact that he broke his end of the bargain first.
  • Faux Affably Evil: He puts on a polite facade in general but implies sinister threats when he speaks.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Possibly not even really his friends but the other 2 executives seem to disapprove of his power-hungry ways.
  • The Leader: Head of a group of individuals from the Spectre organizations.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Seemingly his main personality trait.
    • He manipulated a young recently orphaned Terrence by presenting himself as a fatherly figure and claiming to know his mother so he could recruit him for part of his conspiracy, only to order his assassination once he has lost his ability and gotten imprisoned.
    • When Leilah is on vacation, he takes the opportunity to steal her sister, Seraphina's ability behind her back then recruits her for his organization in order to get her ability back (he has used similar methods on many other people to forcibly extort them too.) He forces her to follow a mission of betraying her classmates. He shows his manipulative nature by pretending Blyke and Remi are his targets when in actuality he has been targeting John the whole time, whom he had Terrence manipulate into coming on the field trip by raising his suspicions of an attack.
    • He kidnaps three subjects and uses his Mind Control ability to make two of them kill the third member, presumably so they become first-hand murderers and have no choice but to join his organization or return to society as criminals.
  • Mind Control: His ability allows him to control the movement of others with vocal commands and even project his consciousness into a victim to assume more direct control. He is also able to implant geas into his victim's minds to restrict certain actions, like revealing sensitive information to unauthorized parties.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Shown having neat hair and a suit.
  • Smug Snake: He is very arrogant to put it lightly and smiles when sending his minions to do cruel acts.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Sends an assassin to dispose of Terrence after he loses his ability and gets imprisoned, allowing the Authorities to use him to read the memories of Spectre. He is also willing to do this to Seraphina for not wanting to follow a mission and understandably getting angry.

    Liam

Liam

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/liam_36.png
Power Level: 6.2
Superpower: Hydrofreeze note

One of Orrin's top agents in Spectre. He's usually paired up with Candice.
  • Barrier Warrior: Can use Hydrofreeze to summon up ice walls to block attacks.
  • Color-Coded Characters: Dark Green.
  • Elemental Shapeshifter: His ability allows him to liquefy himself and transverse through normally impossible routes like pipe networks and drains.
  • Elite Mook: One of the stronger enemies that John and company have to face off against when they're dealing with Orrin's Spectre faction.
  • Establishing Character Moment: He's introduced murdering a captured Terrence in Lovun Prison, which makes it quite clear that Liam and Orrin's Spectre faction have no issue with going so far as to kill children.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: One of his most common methods of attacking is trying to stab his opponent with spikes made of ice. When he attacks Sera and John, he manages to stab them both in the chest.
  • Long-Range Fighter: During battle, Liam usually stands at the back providing support with his water and ice abilities. When paired up with Candice, Liam's at the back while she's up close.
  • Making a Splash: His Hydrofreeze ability allows him to manipulate and become water in any of its three phases, but he seems to prefer either liquid or ice states.
  • Power Level: 6.2 God-tier.
  • The Right Hand of Doom: Starting from the battle against John and Sera over Spectre's ability machine, Liam is shown using Melvin's Spectral Claw ability as a way to show that Spectre has learned EMBER's research methods of being able to use multiple abilities along with their original ability.
  • Stealth Expert:
  • Undying Loyalty: To Orrin, even going so far as to attack and potentially kill children for him.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Murdered Terrence by drowning him to tie up loose ends for Orrin.

Candice

  • The Right Hand of Doom: Starting from the battle against John and Sera over Spectre's ability machine, Candice is shown using Melvin's Spectral Claw ability as a way to show that Spectre has learned EMBER's research methods of being able to use multiple abilities along with their original ability. It complements her ability much better than Liam, her fellow Spectre agent, because she's a short-range fighter and each of her clones can use the arm separately.
  • Self-Duplication: Her Duplication ability allows her to make multiple copies of herself.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Orrin, even going so far as to attack and potentially kill children for him.
