Ultraman Neos

The titular Ultraman, Neos bonded with astronaut Genki Kagura after the youth was left drifting in space from his space station's explosion. On Earth, Neos fought against monsters brought into existence by the adverse effects of Dark Matter.


  • Art Evolution: Neos' appearance in the 1995 version receive his redesign for his mask.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: Ultra Light Sword
  • But Now I Must Go: With Mensch Heit defeated, Neos and Seven 21 headed home as he separated from Kagura.
  • Expy: He is basically a redesigned Ultraman for the series.
  • Finishing Move: In the original series, he fires Magnium Ray by crossing his arms in an "X" position. The 2000 direct-to-video has him performing "Neo" Magnium Ray in the same formation as Specium Ray.
  • Meaningful Name: His name comes from the Greek word "Neo", signifying a new hero in the new century.
  • Transformation Trinket: The Estrella, a counterpart to the Beta Capsule with a green light.

Ultraseven 21

An senior officer from the Space Security Agency, his department try to send him to Earth but with Seven already occupied in his patrolling area, he choose Neos as his replacement. Seven would occasionally appear to assist Neos from behind the scenes, whether as a giant or human sized.


  • Art Evolution: His mask was redesigned from 1995 to the 2000 version. The initial one also had the ability to change his facial expression, mainly squinting his eyes.
  • Expy: He is basically a redesigned Ultraseven, up to the point of his name.
  • Finishing Move: Being an Ultraseven clone, his attacks are Adrium Ray and Regia Shot, based on Emerium Ray and Wide Shot.
  • Human Disguise: Unlike Dan Moroboshi, he takes on multiple human forms, once per episode.
  • Meaningful Name: 21 in his name is a reference to the 21st century of Anno Domini. Additionally, its also a product of 7 multiplied by 3.
  • Sizeshifter: He's actually giant like all Ultras, but usually operates in normal human heights.
  • Weaponized Headgear: The Vezard fulfills this trope as a counterpart to the Eye Slugger.

  • All-Loving Hero: Is willing to coexist with the Alien Zamu after they were banished from their own home world.
  • In-Series Nickname: Miracle Man, for his miraculous survival after drifting in outer space. Little did anyone know that it was Neos who saved him.
  • Transformation Trinket: The Estraller he uses to transform into Ultraman Neos.

Gonpachi Minato

  • A Father to His Men: Pretty much the reason why the entire were loyal to him. It even extends to his actor in real life, per Takatsuki (Kagura)'s interview.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: When the high execs wanted the Alien Zamu boy to be surrendered to Mensch Heit, Gonpachi gives them a middle finger by secretly ordering his teammates to protect the boy at all cost.

Hironobu Uematsu

  • Reasonable Authority Figure: When you're put in charge of the team when your captain being held captive by a monster and pressured by the Obstructive Bureaucrat, what's your first order? Of course Uematsu goes by abandoning said bureaucrat and lead the operation to save his captain.

Defense Juris-diction

A representative from Defense Juris-diction sent to overseer HEART's progress.
  • Everyone Has Standards: As stoic as she is, even she is horrified when her superior prepares to send a monster back to space when it clearly had the HEART's captain in captivity. It helps that said superior is actually a Dirty Coward who hides the fact that the monster absorbed a satellite that's about to explode, which she retaliated by punching him for not revealing this earlier.
  • Hidden Depths: She has a friendly side towards an old colleague from America and is also the Token Good Teammate when it comes to Defense Juris-diction's Obstructive Bureaucrat.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Sure that she's a kind of "Stop Having Fun" Guys to HEART at most times, but some of the team's behaviour seemed to rub to her and by the end of the season, she has warm up to the members.

Arnagaruge

  • Kill It with Ice: The only weakness of Arnagaruge, where after being frozen by ice missiles he's an easy target.
  • Pulling Themselves Together: After being blasted apart by HEART's weaponry, Arnagaruge's limbs drags themselves back to its body.
  • Starter Villain: Ultraman Neos' first monster he fought on earth.

Alien Zamu

  • Cyclops: The Zamus have a single red eye on their faces. And that's it.
  • Expy: Of Alien Baltan and Zetton. The former being a pincer-handed alien which is a reoccurring for of the Ultra, the latter for its facial and chest markings.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: The second Zamu absorbs an electrical blast from Mensch Heit, giving up his life to save the Ultras.
  • Invading Refugees: The Zamus are an alien race forced to leave their planet because of the Dark Mattinvasion. While the one from episode 2 is hostile, the others are usually peaceful, or are simply Anti-Villain characters.

Seagorian

  • Bubble Gun: Can fire exploding energy bubbles.
  • Making a Splash: Can shoot high-powered water blasts at Neos.
  • Sea Monster: Well, its name being Seagorian should be enough of a hint.

Nozera

  • Villain Team-Up: With Sazora.
  • Put Their Heads Together: Ultraman Neos and Seven-21 managed to bash the craniums of both Nozera and Sazora during their penultimate battle, although that's not enough to kill them completely.


Sazora

  • Giant Flyer: Can fly at speeds of Mach 4.
  • Prehistoric Monster: A monster from thirty million years ago, resurrecting in the present day to cause havoc.
  • Put Their Heads Together: Ultraman Neos and Seven-21 managed to bash the craniums of both Nozera and Sazora during their penultimate battle, although that's not enough to kill them completely.
  • Shock and Awe: Can fire energy bolts at its opponents.
  • Villain Team-Up: With Nozera.

Shildoban

  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: A giant locust monster.
  • Hive Mind: Is being controlled by Backacoon, where both kaijus fight and acts as one allowing them to double-team on Neos easily. When HEART severs the organ connecting both kaijus together, Shildoban reverts back to a corpse, at which point Backacoon is easy picking for Neos.
  • Our Zombies Are Different: Shildoban was killed rather easily early in the episode, but it got resurrected when Backacoon's fungus animates it.
  • Sinister Scythe: Its front claws resembles giant scythes.

Backacoon

  • Expy: Of Mushra from Ultraman Taro. Both of them started as giant mushroom forms before developing kaiju-like features.
  • Festering Fungus: The mushroom-like organ on its back is the source of its powers.
  • Hive Mind: Controls Shildoban's carcass with its fungus, allowing both kaijus to fight and acts as one, easily beating down Neos. When HEART severs the organ connecting both kaijus together, Shildoban reverts back to a corpse, at which point Backacoon is easy picking for Neos.

Zamu Revenger

  • Barrier Warrior: Summons a translucent barrier around itself to fend off Neos' attacks.
  • Cyber Cyclops: Has a single green eye on it's face.
  • Destruction Equals Off-Switch: His sole weakness is a remote control, which is hidden elsewhere in the HEART base itself. While Neos is getting beaten down by Zamu Revenger, Seven-21 - having shrunken to human size - managed to retrieve the remote, and crush it. At which point Zamu Revenger suddenly stops attacking and shuts down.
  • Eye Scream: Had it's sole eye smashed by Ultraman Neos at the peak of battle.
  • Mechanical Monster: One which is sentient, however.
  • Mythology Gag: Zamu Revenger's force-field ability seems reminiscent of Zetton from the original Ultraman.

King Bamos

  • Beware the Nice Ones: The friendliest and least violent monster in the show, until the Rock Eaters gets on his bad side.
  • Gentle Giant: As scary as his rampage in kaiju form is, he's only fighting in order to protect his human friends.
  • Hulking Out: Get on Bamos' bad side and he will enlarge into a massive, insanely powerful mammalian/reptile hybrid kaiju.
  • Killer Rabbit: A goofy looking monster who nonetheless can kick serious ass, just ask the Rock Eaters about it.
  • King Kong Copy: With his nemesis being Tyrannosaurus-like Kaiju and serving as the King of his island he is this to the classic giant ape, even if he's more of a mix between various creatures here.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: Bamos is content with living alone in his island, uninhabited by humans and far from civilization.
  • Primate Versus Reptile: With King Bamos representing the primates.
  • Rage Breaking Point: When the Rock Eaters starts hurting the humans, all hell breaks loose...
  • Shock and Awe: Has electrified claws, which can kill Rock Eaters with one slash.
  • Shout-Out: The rivalry between King Bamos and the Rock Eaters is similar to the plot of King Kong.

Rock Eater

  • Curb-Stomp Battle: More than one Rock Eater shows up in the series, and ALL of them are defeated effortlessly by King Bamos.
  • Primate Versus Reptile: The Rock Eaters on the other hand are on the reptilian side.
  • Red Is Violent: They're violent and monstrous Kaiju with a pronounced red coloration.
  • Shout-Out: The rivalry between King Bamos and the Rock Eaters is similar to the plot of King Kong.

Lafreshion

  • Achilles' Heel: Lafreshion's horn, which when severed will render it powerless.
  • Aim for the Horn: Ultraman Neos severed Lafreshion's horn in battle.
  • Ear Fins: Comes in package with it's aquatic-inspired appearance.
  • Fertile Feet: Can fire light particles which encourages plant growth, but is harmful to humans and ultras.
  • Horn Attack: It's horn, which can be used for goring or electrical attacks. Fittingly enough, it's also the monster's sole weak spot.
  • Playing with Fire: Can breath fire.
  • Sea Monster: Is a water-based kaiju and an adept swimmer.
  • Shock and Awe: Has electricity-based attacks which makes it a powerful kaiju.
  • Tunnel King: Can burrow underground at high speeds.

King Dainas

  • Mix-and-Match Critters: It is created when Dark Matter hits the bones of three different dinosaurs - a T-Rex, a Triceratops and a Brontosaurus.
  • Stripped to the Bone: King Dainas' fate, after getting reverted back to fossil form by Neos.

Giga Dread

  • Action Bomb: Giga Dread's unstable body can detonate with the capacity of a small nuke, which is why Ultraman Neos and 21 have to lift it into the stratosphere before blowing it up.
  • The Assimilator: Assimilates objects like satellites and weather balloons into its body to make itself stronger.
  • Shock and Awe: The orb-like protrusion on top of its body can shoot electric bolts.
  • Stationary Boss: Doesn't move around a lot, but can fire electric bolts all over the place which makes it a difficult fight.
  • Why Am I Ticking?: Giga Dread's body is rigged to explode, even if the monster itself isn't aware of it.

Grall

  • The Brute: The strongest and most violent-prone monster to appear in Neos' series.
  • The Dragon: He fills this position to his boss, Mensch Heit, quite nicely.
  • Extra Eyes: Extra red eyes on its forehead.
  • Gold-Colored Superiority: The most powerful monster before Mensch Heit, and the only one powerful enough to cause Neos to reach a Heroic RRoD after the battle.
  • Harbinger of Impending Doom: Grall's arrival heralds the most difficult fight in Neos' career yet, for even if Neos wins this battle, the next one will determine the fate of humanity.
  • The Juggernaut: The toughest opponent Neos have to fight... solo. Luckily for Neos' next battle against Mensch Heit he isn't fighting alone.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Grall's glaring red eyes should be a warning that its nowhere the same league as the various lower-tier kaijus Neos have defeated before.
  • Spikes of Villainy: His back is covered in sinister-looking spikes.

Mensch Heit

  • A God Am I: He boldly declares himself to be the new ruler of humanity when revealing himself to be the ultimate evil of the series.
  • Attack Its Weak Point: Its horn. Upon being blown off Mensch Heit loses its powers almost instantly and the rest of the battle becomes much easier.
  • Big Bad: of the entirety of Ultraman Neos.
  • Beam-O-War: Battles Neos and Seven-21 in an intense one. And loses.
  • Final Boss: The last enemy of Neos and Seven-21, where it's defeat heralds the end of an age of monsters.
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: Sprouts sinister, bat-like wings as it takes flight to battle the ultras.
  • Gross-Up Close-Up: For some reasons unknown, the show feels the need to zoom in on Mensch Heit's ugly, sneering, skull-like face in the peak of the battle.
  • The Man Behind the Man: The demon which is the source of the Dark Matter invasion and kaiju attacks throughout the series.
  • Nightmare Face: Especially when the episode kindly shows audiences the demon's mug up close. Eww.
  • Our Demons Are Different: An alien demon that also resembles a vampire
  • Skull for a Head: Its face does resemble a skull.
