The characters of the animated series Tripping the Rift.
Main Characters
Captain of the Jupiter 42 and protagonist of the series. He is a purple alien that is street-smart and manipulates the crew to do what he wants. What he desires most in life is money, sex, food, and a better life. He is in a sexual relationship with Six.
- Exposed Extraterrestrials: He always walks around naked, but his genitals are not visible.
- Extreme Libido: Frequently sleeps with Six, but will also go after other attractive humanoid women to sate his lust.
- The Gambler: One of his vices is his love of gambling.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite his issues, Chode will do the right thing at the end including saving members of his crew in peril (particularly Six and Whip which are the ones he cares the most, or maybe the only ones he cares at all), not rat on them while under torture and saving the universe.
- Mean Boss: Chode isn't particularly nice to his crew. He states that the only reason he keeps Gus around, is because he doesn't need to pay him, and intentionally creates a hostile work environment through his constant verbal bouts with T'nuk.
- Meaningful Name: His name is a slang term for the perineum, a space between the testicles and anus, befitting of his crude attitude. In addition, his name can also refer to a small penis, which reflects his overcompensating masculinity.
- Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist: He is ugly, crude, disgusting, sarcastic, depraved, and his crew never misses a moment to point it out.
Six is a gynoid who was originally intended for sexual services, but grew beyond her programming due to a intelligence upgrade. Nevertheless, she is still sexual and promiscuous. She is the science officer of the crew and voice of reason for them. She is in a sexual relationship with Chode.
- Boyish Short Hair: Has short hair, but her personality is more of a Girly Girl.
- Ethical Slut: Although she's a sexbot at the core, she's the most ethical and considerate member of the cast and tries to convince Chode to be morally upright from time to time. She's also a staunch adherent to women's rights and dislikes women being treated as tools for sex.
- Grew Beyond Their Programming: She was originally created as a sexbot, but is no longer one thanks to an intelligence upgrade. She still retains a promiscuous attitude though.
- Hooker with a Heart of Gold: Despite of being very provocative and lustful, she is the kindest member of Chode's crew.
- Impossible Hourglass Figure: She is rendered with large breasts, equally wide hips and a waist that looks nowhere wide enough to be in between the former two.
- Intimate Marks: Has a small tattoo just above her left breast, which is the Chinese financial numeral for "six".
- Ms. Fanservice: She is a voluptuous, scantily-clad gynoid who is intended to be very attractive to viewers (and to people in-universe too).
- Rape as Backstory: Her time as a Sex Slave among the Dark Clowns. She would rather die than return to them.
- Rapid Aging: Is subjected to this in ''Ghost Ship''. Upon entering a haunted vessel that forces trespassers to endure their worst nightmares, she turns into a wrinkly elderly woman.
- Ridiculously Human Robots: On the outside, she is indistinguishable from a human. Though she doesn't age, she DOES need to breathe.
- Sexbot: Was originally built as one, but grew beyond the programming.
- Stealth Pun: Her name, Six (of One, "half a dozen of the other").
- Stripperiffic: Her default outfit is a semi-transparent minidress with a Navel-Deep Neckline and blue panties underneath. Most of her other outfits are scantily clad too.
- Team Mom: Often falls into the role as she's the only member of the crew with any sense of responsibility or compassion.
- Token Human: Not a human per se, but she's the only human-looking member of the Jupiter 42.
- World of Technicolor Hair: She has purple hair (resembling her human template), which is common in the far future of the show's setting.
T'nuk is the ship's pilot and cook. She is volatile and amorous. While most characters consider her ugly, she is considered attractive to her own species and the inhabitants of Planet Kubrick.
- Brawn Hilda: She is strong and heavyset, but also quite ugly. Nevertheless, she's entirely convinced that she is beautiful. The rest of the crew disagrees, Chode especially who constantly voices his opinion on the matter. That said, she is considered attractive to the inhabitants of Planet Kubrick.
- Multiboobage: She has three breasts.
- Our Centaurs Are Different: She has a centaur-like body. Her forelegs also function as a second set of arms.
- Sdrawkcab Name: T'nuk Layor backwards is "Royal Kun't," pronounced like "Royal Cunt".
- Spell My Name With An S: Her name is spelled either "T'Nuk" or "T'nuk".
Whip is Chode's nephew. He is the foreman, but doesn't really work that much. At the beginning of the series he is 15, but turns 16 in the episode Emasculating Chode.
- The Alcoholic: He loves to drink alcohol.
- The Baby of the Bunch: The youngest crew member of the Jupiter 42.
- Healing Factor: Can regenerate lost limbs and his tail.
- Hollywood Chameleons: He can conceal his appearance via camouflaging.
- Hormone-Addled Teenager: He is a teenager who is libidinous and likes to look at porn.
- Lizard Folk: He is a human-sized anthropomorphic chameleon.
- Lovable Lizard: An anthropomorphic lizard who is one of the main characters. He's lazy and hedonistic, but is probably the second-nicest member of the crew.
- Nephewism: He is somehow Chode's nephew. It's implied Chode adopted Whip after he was abandoned by his mother, who was one of his former lovers.
- The Slacker: Whip seldom does his tasks and would prefer to self-indulge instead.
- Wall Crawl: He has the ability to cling to walls.
Chode's robot butler. He is the ship's engineer. He is smart, but cynical due to past experience:
- Camp Gay: Acts in a stereotypically effeminate manner.
- The Cynic: Due to the antics of his masters, he has grown cynical to the world around him.
- Expy: One of C-3PO. To really nail it in, his vacuum cleaner in the opening looks (and sounds) like R2-D2.
- Flanderization: He went from being a not-exceptionally-masculine bot with some ambiguously gay tendencies in Season One to his stereotypically gay characteristics being the sole definition of his character from Season Two onwards.
- Religious Robot: Believes in God. He and other robots state that they worship God because they if they didn't, they would have to worship the engineers that created them.
- Robot Maid: Is the butler to Chode, and by extension, the rest of the crew.
- Transparent Closet: He is gay and everyone around him accepts that he is gay, but he never openly admits to it.
- Voiced by: John Melendez
The A.I. of the Jupiter 42. He is cowardly and often freaks out at the worst times.
- Artificial Intelligence: Is sentient and capable of feeling pain.
- Couch Gag: He says something different in the intro for every episode.
- Ironic Fear: He is a spaceship that is agoraphobic (afraid of open spaces).
- Robo Romance: He is in love with Six, although she doesn't return the favor.
- Sapient Ship: Is intelligent and regularly talks to the crew.
- Sliding Scale of Robot Intelligence: Fits into tier 3 or 4.

- Expy: The Clown Troopers are spoofs on Storm Troopers
- Monster Clown: A whole race of evil aliens which resemble clowns.
The ruler of the Dark Clown Empire. He is Chode's archnemesis.
- Big Bad: The main villain of the series.
- Expy: He's essentially a clown themed Sith Lord.
- Evil Redhead
- Hair-Trigger Temper: Is very easy to upset. Chode frequently exploits this flaw.
- Henpecked Husband: His wife, Bernice, bullies him around.
- Hot Guy, Ugly Wife: He's attractive compared to Bernice.
- Kung-Fu Wizard: Possesses telekinetic powers and wields a lightsaber.
- Laughably Evil: Due to his voice and silly mannerisms, it's hard to take Bobo seriously as a threat.
The wife of Darph Bobo.
- Hair-Trigger Temper: Just as foul-tempered as her husband.
- Hot Guy, Ugly Wife: She is ugly and fat, while Darph is fit and handsome.
The beautiful yet sadistic daughter of Darph and Bernice.

The Confederation
- The Federation: A far more unscrupulous and greedy take on the United Federation of Planets from the Star Trek series.
- MegaCorp: Is controlled by a bunch of corporations.
- Prime Directive: Publically, the government espouses the desire to not interfere with the "natural path" of races that have not attained lightspeed travel, but is willing to colonize those same races out of profit.
The leader of the Confederation faction.
- Expy: Of Captain James T. Kirk from Star Trek.
- Henpecked Husband: He is this to his overbearing wife.
Commander Adam's teenage clone son.
- Strong Family Resemblance: As a clone of Commander Adam, he's a splitting copy of his template/father.
- Star-Crossed Lovers: He falls in love with Babette Bobo, and later impregnates her after a sexual encounter in a bar washroom.
