Voiced by: David Gasman

Ed is an alien janitor who accidentally dropped a magical tonic to Earth, and is now sent to retrieve it so his race can concoct an antidote.
  • Abnormal Ammo: He uses bees as projectiles for his blowpipe. They become unlimited near the end of the game.
  • Almighty Janitor: Not so almighty at first. The only reason he's made the hero is that the whole mess is his fault. He gets more almighty later on.
  • Anguished Declaration of Love: Ed is trying one of these in the beginning cutscene. It doesn't pan out like he hopes.
  • Least Common Skin Tone: Everyone has something to say about Ed's unusual purple color... Despite often having weird skin tones themselves.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: The reason why the plot even exists. So, Ed attempts to ingest a tonic of unknown properties to get the courage to ask a girl out, but it apparently had a funky flavor. Turned out the Tonic had more funkiness than just the flavor: The residue spit from the tonic also caused the screws to come to life and become crazy. He then attempts to eject the tonic from the ship... which lands on earth, specifically right on the recently evicted-from-the-bar drunkard Grogh, he drinks it, starts to mutate, spills it in the conveniently nearby brook, causing the mutagenetic effects of the tonic to mutate the planet. This starts causing a LOT of oddities such as flying sheep and psychedelic skies with an overall background that looks like something taken from an acid trip, and then Grogh declaring that all drinks are on him. Shortly thereafter, Ed was busted for his reckless action and is sentenced to clean up the mess he caused. During the prologue cutscene he even botches the attempt to recover the Tonic from Grögh's tower, accidentally hurting the man (and thus giving him a reason to hunt him) before crashing on the ground.
  • Purple Is Powerful: In his Super Ed form, he is quite powerful.
  • Second Hour Superpower: Ed starts the game completely unarmed, except for the time-limited super-powered popcorns allowing him to turn into SuperEd. Upon beating the first level he gets the stick he uses for most of his abilities and to actually fight.
  • Super Hero: SuperEd, yeah!
  • Took A Level In Bad Ass: He started as a goofy, incompetent Janitor bullied by others and ended up kicking asses with his stick, saving planets and getting a hot, human-like girlfriend.
  • Top-Heavy Guy: Whenever Ed becomes Super Ed.
  • Ugly Guy, Hot Wife: Ed is the ugly guy to Suzy.
  • When All You Have Is a Hammer…: Ed can use his stick as a whacking staff, but also as a lever, to open doors, use it as a blowpipe to shoot distant enemies or triggers and as a pogo stick to jump on magma unharmed.

    Suzy
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/susy.jpg
An inhabitant of the planet where the Tonic Can landed, she's the Doc's daughter and becomes Ed's girlfriend.
  • Covert Pervert: After recovering all the feathers from the Cocktail Glacier she tells Ed that she has many "games" in mind that they could do with the feathers.
  • Expecting Someone Taller: When she first encounter Ed she seems rather taken back, claiming that she was expecting someone... less purple. She gets over it soon though.
  • Impossible Hourglass Figure: Suzy's body is almost literally shaped as an hourglass formed by her skirt and her boobs, more evident when seen from the front.
  • Least Common Skin Tone: She has pale blue-purplish skin, paired with violet hair and dark purple lips.
  • Mad Scientist's Beautiful Daughter: She fits this trope to a T.
  • Missing Mom: Her mother isn't encountered, though her father mentions a tragic incident with the prototype for the blowpipe...
  • Motivational Kiss: In you choose to try again on the "Continue" screen, Suzy will grab Ed and shower him with kisses before walking away.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Pretty face, large breasts, tiny waist... for someone with Floating Limbs and lilac skintone, Suzy is quite attractive.

    The Doc
Suzy's father, a great but slightly insane scientist. He helps Ed defeating Grögh and provides him with power ups.
  • Distressed Dude: You encounter him locked away in a cave by his own overprotective creation, the Robosuitcase. You must release him so that he can build you a machine to access Grögh's domain.
  • Eye Scream: Something happened to him and took one of his eyes, which is now covered by an eyepatch. Apparently, because he relocated it to the top of his head.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: He was locked in his own laboratory by his latest creation, the Robosuitcase.
  • Mad Scientist: He looks maniacal, his lab is a Lethal Lava Land with dangerous prototypes and the items he asks for to build a catapult are more and more odd (including coils, jumping stones, feathers, domino tiles and piggybanks).
  • Milking the Giant Cow: Whenever he speaks he gesticulates wildly.

    Agent Xyz
Leader of the Resistance against Grögh's forces. He gives Ed useful information throughout the game.

Antagonists

    Grögh the Hellish
The main antagonist of the game, Grögh used to be a drunkard, until the tonic had fallen right into his lap. Now, after a single sip, he went mad with power, and it's up to Ed to retrieve the tonic back from him before it's too late.
  • Advancing Boss of Doom: At one point during the boss fight he will walk across a lava-filled corridor to get to Ed, who must force him backwards towards a pit by turning into SuperEd and punch boulders in his way.
  • Attack Its Weak Point: The robot he uses for the final boss fight is nearly impervious to damage... except for a slot in the armor you can aim for.
  • Beard of Evil: Grögh has one.
  • Big Bad: He is the main antagonist of the game.
  • The Brute: Grögh is like this.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: In the PC version, we first see Grogh as he's being booted out of a bar. He's clearly a druken loser. Then the can falls from the sky and lands in front of him. Grogh takes one sip, and suddenly becomes ruler of the Earth. "This time drinks are on ME! and EVERYONE is gonna get a taste!"
  • Game-Over Man: Both he and Suzy appears in the "Continue?" screen. Choosing to quit leads to Grögh getting ahold of Ed and kick his ass, laughing triumphantly while Suzy watches in shock.
  • Horny Vikings: Subverted in the PC version. Grogh doesn't actually gain the horned helmet until after drinking the Tonic.
  • The Man Behind the Man: Grögh is behind the Killer Vegetables. And the Pharmacist is behind him, but that's not important.
  • Non-Action Big Bad: Grögh may look tough, with how he's big and looks like a viking, but he's actually quite a wimp. When you do finally encounter him at the end, he relies on a giant robot entirely to fight you, and gives up after one direct slap.
  • Orcus on His Throne: Grögh himself isn't actively doing anything against Ed and leaves all the work to his minions, until the final battle where he pilots a giant robot. In one version's prologue he's even seen sitting on his throne, listening to a buxom opera singeress.
    • Except the game over screen, where he fucks up Ed's limbless body pretty good.
  • Stupid Evil: When defeated he mentions that his original idea was just to bully and scare everyone around with his newfound powers, and the whole evil empire and alliance with the Killer Vegetables thing was the Pharmacist's idea, which he resents.
  • Vocal Dissonance: In the beta/special edition, Grögh sounds like a young prankster despite his big, viking-like look. (as well as his more fitting voice in the pre-rendered intro cutscene.)
    • Mind you, this was only in the beta/SE version. The Retail PC version had the same voice actor as in the intro.

    The Pharmacist
A sinister scientist who teams up with Grögh for his own purposes. He uses the containments of the can alongside mutated pigs to brew a weird concoction called Groga, which can change living creatures even further.

    Helling Guards
One of two groups of enemies in the game, the Helling Guards are creations of Grögh that appear as tough, buff men, but are filled with hot air. There are several variants of Helling Guards, including Butcher Guards, Cooking Guards, Skater Guards and Armored Guards.

    Killer Vegetables
The other of two groups of enemies in the game: these used to be regular vegetables, but have been mutated into malicious monsters thanks to the tonic. Some have joined forces with Grögh.
  • Artistic License – Biology: Mushrooms are considered vegetables/plants in this game, even though mushrooms are actually a fungus, a completely different type of organism separate from plants.

    Magic Mushroom
A killer mushroom who steals the final pig Ed needs for the Doc; the Magic Mushroom wants to use this pig to brew his own version of Groga and wipe out mankind.
  • Artistic License – Biology: The Magic Mushroom states that if all of mankind is wiped off the planet, only then he'll be THE master plant... even though mushrooms are actually a fungus, a completely different type of organism, and thus NOT a plant.
  • Giant Space Flea from Nowhere: The Magic Mushroom had never been mentioned anywhere before and suddenly appears near the end of the game.

Other

    The General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ea8d363aa816a5c325994c5620cf1b3d.png
The General of Ed's race.
  • The Cameo: He only appears in the prologue. He also makes one in Rayman 2: The Great Escape, selling a war mecha to the Big Bad.
  • Funetik Aksent: For some reason, in the Italian dub of the game, he's the only character speaking with a glaring british accent and pronunciation.
  • Top-Heavy Guy: He's pretty much the same body type as SuperEd... only 24/7.
    Robosuitcase
A robot made by the Doc to protect his cave from strangers, but as the tonic caused the Doc's inventions to go haywire (Robosuitcase included), he's locked up the Doc inside his own cave.
  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: The tonic's influence causes the Robosuitcase to lock up the Doc in his own cave in order to keep him safe.
Robosuitcase: "Doc is great, Doc is all. Doc not leave cave."
  • Warm-Up Boss: Although technically not a true boss, Robosuitcase is the final obstacle in Doc's Cave before the Doc can be freed. It's really easy to defeat even without a weapon (as Ed gets the stick after defeating him), since a popcorn machine that allows Ed to transform into Super Ed is available.
    The Mammoth
An elephant-like creature with wings and aviator goggles, apparently an ally of the Doc. Ed meets him when entering the Canyon for the first time.
  • All There in the Manual: Only an old preview article on the game appears to mention a mammoth, being injured and having a pilot's license, seemingly matching with this character.
  • Exposition Fairy: Much like Agent Xyz in previous levels, the mammoth provides a few tips for the Canyon level. He's nearly not as recurring, however, only appearing when entering the Canyon for the first time.
    The Barman
The barkeep of the Glacier Cocktail level. Ed meets him when entering that level for the first time
  • Exposition Fairy: As with Agent Xyz and the mammoth in the previous levels, the barman explains what's going on in Glacier Cocktail. He only appears when entering that level for the first time.
    The Prisoners
Inmates that recur throughout the Pyramid level. They've been imprisoned long enough to have become insane, but they're still surprisingly helpful at providing tips.
    Dino-Cow
A mutant that's a cross between a dog, a cow, and a tyrannosaurus. This creature is found near the entrance to the Glacier Cocktail in the South Plain.
