Berserkers

    Caligula

The Mad Emperor

"My... Action... Is... My... Destiny..."

The Third Emperor of the Ancient Roman Empire from the 1st Century and Uncle of Emperor Nero, he has inspired several legends of atrocity. At first he was loved by the people as a wise ruler, all of a sudden he went mad when the moon started to love him. In the few years until his assassination, he ruled the Empire through fear.

He first appears as an antagonist in the "Second Singularity: Eternal Madness Empire: Septem" as one of many conquerors vying to take over the Roman Empire.

  • Ax-Crazy: His madness results in him seeing everyone around him as targets for his rage. However, being around Artemis seems to help him because his madness is explicitly caused by Diana - or Artemis Roman form.
  • Black Eyes of Crazy: Completely black sclera, with glowing red pupils.
  • Bling of War: Seems to be dressed in golden armor, although not as opulent as that of Gilgamesh.

    Darius III

Last King of the Achaemenid Empire

"..."

A valorous king of Ancient Persia and last king of the Achaemenid dynasty, he is the "rival" of the King of Conquerors, Iskandar, whom he faced in combat many times.

He appears as an antagonist in the "Second Singularity: Eternal Madness Empire: Septem" as one of the Servants from the United Roman Empire.

  • Badass Normal: Besides his enormous size (the reasons for which are never elaborated on), he was an otherwise normal human king who routinely locked horns with the demigod conqueror Iskandar.
  • Cavalry of the Dead: The army of his Athanaton Ten Thousand is composed of nothing but ten thousand skeletal warriors, with even his War Elephant actually being a construct made out of those warriors.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He's scary, unintelligible, and is covered in green flames as he ascends in power, but he's otherwise friendly enough.

    Heracles
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/47_heracles_berserker_1.png
The Greatest Hero of Greece

"▂▂▃▃▂▂"

One of the most famous heroes from Greek mythology. Heracles was a demigod born after a disguised Zeus (leader of the gods) had a sexual affair with a human girl named Alcmene. Due to Zeus' infidelity and the complex circumstances of Heracles' birth, Heracles was uniquely hated by the goddess Hera (the wife of Zeus), and many of his adventures resulted from this tragic vendetta.

Heracles was a multi-talented paragon of Greek ideals and masculinity, overcoming any obstacle with intelligence, wisdom, and strength in equal measure. Under Hera's influence, he murdered his family in a berserk rage and was given twelve tasks of immeasurable difficulty as penance; Heracles accomplished them all, and was rewarded after death with a seat in the heavens as a constellation.

Due to his talents and absolute mastery of weaponry, Heracles could be summoned in any of the standard Classes of a Holy Grail War except for Caster. Being summoned as a Berserker grants him incredible boosts to his already impressive stats, but strips him of the fine motor skills required to use many of the weapon techniques and Noble Phantasms he accumulated throughout life.

As a certain Master of his once said, "He's the strongest man in the world!"; Heracles smashes through everything in his way, and he does it quite well.

  • The Ace: He can fulfill the role of any of the seven Classes except Caster. Despite the Berserker class being arguably his weakest class, he's still a Nigh-Invulnerable Lightning Bruiser who's better at dealing with the effects of his mad state than most heroes would be. Again, he's friggin' Heracles.
  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: Even though he was incredibly skilled with every weapon during his life, the Berserker class has made his mind give into madness so he can only swing the giant sword around. It works disgustingly well, and his instinct in the form of his Eye of the Mind still functions through the cloud of madness in his mind.
  • Heroic Build: He's a 300 kg demigod with the rock-solid muscles to match. As a Servant, his nobility and kindness still manage to show through his insanity, faithfully protecting the protagonist and going out of his way to avoid harming children.
  • Like a Son to Me: He considers Izuku this trope and makes it clear as best he can.

    Kiyohime
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kiyohime1.png
The Flame Dragon Princess

"Foooooound yooooooou~"

A figure from the Legend of Anchin and Kiyohime. One day, a handsome visiting priest named Anchin fell in love with the beautiful Kiyohime, but after a time he overcame his passions and refrained from further meetings. Kiyohime became furious at the sudden change of heart and pursued him in rage. The priest and Kiyohime met at the edge of the Hidaka river, where the priest asked a boatman to help him to cross the river, but told him not to let her cross with his boat. When Kiyohime saw that Anchin was escaping her, she jumped into the river and started to swim after him. While swimming in the torrent of the Hidaka river, she transformed into a large serpent or dragon because of her rage.

  • Ax-Crazy: She's very sweet and demure, at least at first glance. But do not be fooled by her appearance. Inside, she has a lot of issues and has an extremely unhealthy mental state, and that's putting it mildly considering that she automatically consumes a command seal should you press her Berserk Button.
  • Berserk Button: Lying to her. According to her material, if her master does so even after she told them not to, she automatically consumes a command seal, regardless whether she sees through the lie or not.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: As mentioned above, do not be fooled by her demure appearance. She can kill you in a heartbeat if you're not careful. And while she's a Yandere to those she falls in love with, she tends to be a stern Iron Lady towards everyone else.

    Lancelot
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/48_lancelot_berserker_1.png
The Black Knight

"Huuuuuuuuuuu..."

Sir Lancelot, also known as the Knight of the Lake, is the person serving as a negative symbol of the Arthurian legend. Having lost his parents as a child, he was raised by the fairy of the lake Nimue and thus gained the alias "Knight of the Lake". Upon reaching adulthood, he crossed over to the Isle of Britain and, after meeting with King Arthur, joined the Knights of the Round Table. It has been said that none could compare to his valor and chivalric mentality. For him to surrender himself to his feelings towards Queen Guinevere was an inevitable outcome for his chivalry.

If his treachery towards the king had been promptly met with ruin, he would probably have been saved. However, because his valor was peerless, this situation brought about the worst possible outcome. The tenacity of a knight who fell in the depths of regret despite being bathed by too much honors; especially due the feelings of love and hate pointed towards the King and the Queen that can never be answered, he continues to be imprisoned by eternal madness. The black knight continues to fight, seeking the sole meeting that might appease his agony.

  • Black Knight: Not only is his armor completely black, but its very appearance seems to warp and twist.
  • Black Swords Are Better: His sword Arondight is rendered black to match his madness.
  • Helmets Are Hardly Heroic: Inverted. He always keeps wearing his helmet in FGO and the flavor text of his Bond Craft Essence tells you that he doesn't want his Master to see his face because of how far he has fallen. According to him, the helmet is the only proof of his knighthood.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite his madness, he can tell Mash is the Demi-Servant housing his son's soul, and is quite protective of her. This starts Izuku's suspicion of who the Shielder is.

     Lu Bu Fengxian
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/49_lu_bu_fengxian_berserker_1.png
The Flying General

"▂▂▃▃▂▂"

The general of repetition of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Two times he cut down his foster fathers and to repeat the act of betrayal on countless occasions was an unbelievable act for a China that valued Confucian morals.

His military exploits and deeds of arms made him one of the strongest in the Three Kingdoms' world. He went through many battles while betraying many lords, but in the end he was assaulted and defeated by Cao Cao when his most trusted subordinate, Chen Gong, betrayed him. He was then executed.

He appears briefly as an ally in the "Second Singularity: Eternal Madness Empire: Septem", serving as a general in Nero's army.

  • The Ace: In the Romance of the Three Kingdoms and so he can also be summoned as Archer, Lancer, Rider, or Assassin.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Historically attributed to have great skill in martial arts, and one of his God Force forms is a pair of enormous bracers used for blunt strikes, implying this trope.
  • BFS: His halberd, the Houtengeki/Sky Piercer.
  • Wild Card: It is this in other shapes. Again, it's Lu Bu, this is his bread and butter in the time of the Three Kingdoms.

     Spartacus
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spartacusnew1.png
The Gladiator

"Servant, Berserker! And so, we meet again, keeper of the flame of rebellion!"

A Thracian gladiator captured by Romans who became a symbol of rebellion. He managed to repel an assault force of nearly three thousand dispatched by the Romans, leading to him being known as a hero who inspired armed uprisings by slaves in many places.

He's an ally in Rome, serving as a general in Nero's army.

  • Berserk Button: He still has massive problems with authority. It's mentioned that if his Master forgoes a relation of mutual respect and instead tries to act like he's, well, his master, Spartacus will kill him. Even knowing it'd cause him to lose the war there and then.
  • Character Catchphrase: "Oppressor!!"
  • Enemy Mine: He holds no love for the Roman Empire and Nero, but he considers the United Roman Empire the bigger oppressor.

     Tamamo Cat
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tamamo01.png
The Wild Beast

"Pinned you again! That's right! It's me, the ever-lovable and sorely-needed comic relief character! Arriving just in the nick of time, wan! Not rain, nor snow, nor fear of pawsuits-I mean, lawsuits could ever hope to stop me!"

A member of the Tamamo Nine. After Tamamo-no-Mae underwent a millennium of training and attained divinity, she cut off her other eight tails and returned to her one-tailed form. Each of her tails were left a portion of her divinity and became a Heroic Spirit. Cat has Tamamo's more pure and sincere aspects.

She briefly appears in Septem.

  • Asian Fox Spirit: No matter how much she insists that she's a cat, she's still a fox spirit. Or part of one.
  • Cat Girl: She insists that she's this, even though her ears and tail are obviously that of a fox and not a cat, and she even barks like a dog as a Verbal Tic.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Tamamo Cat is overall very weird. Her mindset and her dialogues are confusing, but she still displays a good amount of intellect, as reflected in her complicated metaphors. She's also very perceptive.

     Vlad III (Berserker)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vlad1_6.png
The Lord Impaler

"What did you do?"

Due to legends associated with Vlad III, another name for him has been spread across the world, The Little Dragon, better known as the vampire Count Dracula. This incarnation of Vlad III is not truly a vampire, but his association with the fictional vampire Dracula, a cornerstone of popular culture, has granted him the Legend of Dracula Noble Phantasm that allows him to become a vampire (but not a Dead Apostle).

He is one of Jeanne Alter's Servants in Orleans before being summoned to Chaldea.

  • Berserk Button: The Legend of Dracula itself. Vlad hates that part of his history, and would rather be summoned in his relatively weaker Lancer form, but Chaldea puts him as a Berserker, meaning Legend of Dracula is constantly active, reinforcing his vampiric aspects. He has to be talked down of hitting Izuku for that reason.
  • Cool Uncle: Is this for Eli, occasionally helping with some of her endeavors
  • Our Vampires Are Different: Unlike his Lancer versions, Vlad as Berserker embodies his legend as a vampire, and has his other Noble Phantasm, Legend of Dracula: The Succession of Blood, active by default.
  • Red Baron: Impaling Prince. Also, Count Dracula.
  • Truer to the Text: In comparison to the original game, he shows disdain at being summoned as a vampire/berserker from the beginning, just like in Fate/Apocrypha.
