"招汙負蔑清名礙,豈識初心未曾改;明朝浴血不枉義,吾之大道吾主宰。"

A former ally of Shang Bu Huan, a general in the Xi-You army, and secretly the Centipede of Huo Shi Ming Huang's Order of the Divine Swarm.

  • All for Nothing: As it turns out, joining the Order of the Divine Swarm was ultimately for nothing, as Huo Shi Ming Huang is also the Emperor of Xi-You, meaning Wan Jun Po was just another pawn in his chess game with himself.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Wan Jun Po loses his left arm from overusing the Blaze Crystal Sword, a holy sword that generates extreme heat and will burn the user from the inside out when used without proper protection, so much that his arm turns to ash.
  • Animal Motifs: Centipedes. His attacks and even his title references the number one hundred possibly in reference to the large amount of legs centipedes have. Ironically enough, few centipedes actually have exactly one hundred legs.
  • Anti-Villain: Is a father to his men, and genuinely cares about the well-being of Xi You. He joined the Order of the Divine Swarm because he felt that it was the best option to save Xi You from ruin. He chooses to deal with Zhao Jun Lin and Xing Hai over taking back the Sorcerous Sword Index to Huo Shi Ming Huang despite the latter's orders to ignore the demons due to the threat the demons pose to Xi-You and the world at large. By choosing to use the Sorcerous Sword Index against the demons for the greater good instead of running off with the Index, Wan Jun Po unknowingly avoids Lin Xue Ya's attention. Lin Xue Ya decides Wan Jun Po's decision to not pursue a villainous path with the Index is boring and decides to leave Wan alone since Wan no longer is a potential villain in his eyes.
  • Authority Equals Asskicking: A famous general of Xi You and one of the only foes to give Shang Bu Huan some trouble in a direct confrontation.
  • Cool Mask: He wears a black mask covering his mouth.
  • Didn't Think This Through: When he attempts to use some of the ancient swords in the Sorcerous Sword Index against Zhao Jun Lin, he wasn't able to fully utilize their maximum powers. This was due to the fact that only holy swordsmen with proper training are able to wield all of the swords. Due to the fact that Wan Jun Po dealt with the dark arts, it made him completely incompatible with those first few swords. The only sword that mostly worked out for him was the Blaze Crystal Sword, which allowed him to unleash a barrage of flames, but at the cost of fueling its fire power with his own body. Again, a proper swordsman would be able to control this sword more efficiently, but Wan Jun Po had to use it immediately in his final battle.
  • Dual Wielding: His polearm weapon has a detachable blade that can be wielded separately from the main polearm, allowing him to essentially fight with two blades.
  • Double Agent: Wan Jun Po works as a double agent for Huo Shi Ming Huang's evil Order of the Divine Swarm organization while also acting as a leading general of Xi-You's army. Given the revelation at the end of Season 3, this gets subverted hard.
  • Double Weapon: His weapon is described as a green dragon crescent blade or guandao, a type of Chinese polearm. More specifically, his polearm is actually two blades on a stick, as one side of the polearm's blades is a detachable sword that can be wielded separately.
  • A Father to His Men: Supposedly a well-respected general of Xi-You, and cares deeply about the well-being of his men as their deaths supposedly still haunt him.
    • His reputation and loyalty to his nation inspires both his men in the Order of the Divine Swarm and Xi-You Imperial Army to put aside their differences and rally together to take a stand against Zhao Jun Lin. He even asks Shang Bu Huan, Dan Fei, and Juan Can Yun to look after his men who survive the battle with Zhao Jun Lin and her demon forces while he is in a mortally wounded state from using the Blaze Crystal Sword.
  • Four-Star Badass: A famed general of Xi-You and probably one of its greatest warriors. Shang Bu Huan describes him as the linchpin of Xi-You's military forces on the western border.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: In regards to aligning himself with Huo Shi Ming Huang against Emperor You and Princess Chao Feng. Even Wan Jun Po compares aligning himself with Huo Shi Ming Huang with embracing a darkness opposite to the divine so he may save Xi-You from certain doom.
  • Killed Off for Real: He dies at the end of Season 3 at the hands of Huo Shi Ming Huang, his superior who is also the Emperor of Xi-You.
  • Man on Fire: Spends the latter half of the battle against Zhao Jun Lin being burnt alive due to wielding the Blaze Crystal Sword without proper protection. This ultimately costs him an arm and leaves him mortally wounded.
  • My Country, Right or Wrong: His loyalty ultimately lies with his nation of Xi-You, and he is willing to serve Huo Shi Ming Huang if it means a better future for Xi-You. Even when he gets his hands on the Sorcerous Sword Index thanks to Lin Xue Ya's scheme, he chooses to use it against the resurrected Zhao Jun Lin due to the threat she presents to Xi-You instead of following Huo Shi Ming Huang's orders of ignoring the demons in favor of retrieving the Sorcerous Sword Index safely.
  • Not Distracted by the Sexy: Wan Jun Po believes in his cause and righteousness to such an extent, that he's immune to the Mind Manipulation sexiness of Zhao Jun Lin at her full power. His love For Great Justice is unbreakable. That, and using the Blaze Crystal Sword which constantly burns his flesh also helps.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: For both Xi-You and the Order of the Divine Swarm. He consistently questions Xing Hai's motives, and even considers striking her down before her Void Junction can ignite a new War of the Fading Dusk.
  • Red Baron: Known as the "Paragon of a Hundred Battles" probably due to his victories and prowess in battle.
  • Start of Darkness: According to his own words, news of the death of his men defending the borders of Xi-You while he and other key officers were recalled to the Imperial Palace to carry out Chao Feng's mad orders pushed him to join Huo Shi Ming Huang and the Order of the Divine Swarm without realizing that Huo Shi Ming Huang and the Emperor are one and the same.
  • Sword Beam: Is capable of launching these with his weapon, and they're powerful enough to send Shang Bu Huan flying meters back.
  • This Cannot Be!: Wan Jun Po says this as his last words after it is revealed to him that the Emperor of Xi-You was Huo Shi Ming Huang the entire time.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Discovers too late that Huo Shi Ming Huang is the very Emperor that he opposed, meaning that he was always serving Xi-You via the Divine Swam, thus making all his efforts and betrayals to change the nation rather pointless.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Wan Jun Po was once a friend and ally of Shang Bu Huan, but now he has pledged fealty to Huo Shi Ming Huang and the the Order of the Divine Swarm.

The Mantis of the Order of the Divine Swarm.

  • Animal Motifs: Praying mantis. Yi Piaomiao's appearance is based on some traits of a praying mantis. His Hair Antennae resembles a praying mantis's antennae and his weapons look like sickles.
  • Blood Knight: He enjoys facing capable opponents, and consistently wants to fight and best Shang Bu Huan in combat. A downplayed example, though, as he is shown to be quite level-headed when not engaging in combat.
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: Yi Piaomiao actually a disguised Lin Xue Ya persuades Xing Hai not to kill Shang Bu Huan yet since they need him to learn to how to use the other magical swords outside of Xi-You from the Sorcerous Sword Index, since he is unfamiliar with the swords they have never seen before.
  • Combat Pragmatist: He gets called out by Shang on his fighting style which involves mixing magic and martial arts, with Yi Piaomiao claiming that there's no need to adhere to ideology or creed when in pursuit of power.
  • Dead All Along: Xing Hai intends to use Juan Can Yun's corpse to attack Dan Fei as revenge for her actions in season 1, after having him murdered by Lin Xue Ya under the Seven Blasphemous Deaths' thrall. However, once she has the corpse in hand and turns it into a zombie, it's revealed to be Yi Piaomiao in disguise, revealing a convoluted scheme engineered by Lin Xue Ya to go after Wan Jun Po and Huo Shi Ming Huang and prevent the Sorcerous Sword Index from falling into evil hands all while disguised as Yi Piaomiao, while the real Juan Can Yun was disguised as him and responsible for the real Yi Piaomiao's death.
  • Enigmatic Minion: Nothing is known about him except he has been tutored by Huo Shi Ming Huang and that he desires to hone his martial talent further. It stays this way as he's killed off partaking in a scheme concocted by Lin Xue Ya without revealing much about himself. This is reinforced by the fact he has no character poem.
  • Flying Weapon: One of his main techniques is to send his unwielded scythes to attack his enemies. He combines this with teleportation which allows him to attack from all sides. It's implied that this was taught to him by Huo Shi Ming Huang, as Yi Piaomiao claims that his martial prowess has reached new heights under Huo Shi Ming Huang's tutelage.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: A more subdued example. In episode 9, he calms an anxious Wan Jun Po, who's on the verge of (maybe) switching sides again, by expositing on Huo Shi King Huang's orders.
  • Killed Off for Real: Was unwittingly killed by Seven Blasephemous Deaths while disguised as Juan Can Yun in a convoluted scheme concocted by Lin Xue Ya to thwart another convoluted scheme concocted by Xing Hai.
  • Magic Knight: Combines both magic and martial arts in his techniques. More specifically, he uses magic to propel his scythes and teleport around.
  • Sinister Scythe: Yi Piaomiao's main weapons are a pair of kama, sickle-like weapons that can be detached or reattached in combat.
  • Slasher Smile: He has one in both his concept illustration and puppet form.
  • Spin Attack: Likes to send his scythes whirling around as they attack, and even spins them on his palms.
  • The Strategist: He's very level headed and thinks before he speaks. Assuming some of his level headed actions was even him and not Lin Xue Ya in disguise.
  • Teleport Spam: Likes to attack from all sides in combat with this technique.
  • Thinking Up Portals: Sends his sickles through them to attack opponents in addition to Teleport Spam.
  • Unwitting Pawn: To Lin Xue Ya thanks to his convoluted scheme.

The leader of the Order of the Divine Swarm (神蝗盟 Shén Huáng Méng [ZH] / Shin Kou Mei [JA]), a heretic wizard after the Sorcerous Sword Index to take over Xi-You from the unseen Emperor. It is revealed that he is the Emperor of Xi-You, and has been stringing along Wan Jun Po and other dissidents into doing his bidding.
  • Above Good and Evil: He claims that the chaos of evil and the order of good are foolish restrictions that he and those who follow him shall transcend, becoming the ones who will ultimately decide what is good and evil. This is displayed when he tests Yi Piaomiao's wisdom (who's actually a disguised Lin Xue Ya) as elaborated below in Take a Third Option. This is Foreshadowing the fact he and the Emperor of Xi-You are the same person, effectively letting him decide what good and evil are within Xi-You, no matter whose side someone picks.
  • Animal Motifs: Locusts, which swarm and destroy all that lay in their path.
    • His whole organization has members whose Animal Motifs are various insects, arachnids, and other creepy crawlies.
  • Authority Equals Asskicking: Is the leader of the Order of the Divine Swarm and the Emperor of Xi-You and is able to fight three powerful opponents by himself and win.
  • Badass Army: He announces he has one and is going to invade Dong-Li to kill Shang Bu Huan at the end of season 2. The rank and file of his forces are shown to wear cloaks and insect-shaped masks, and are enemies of Xi-You's army as they are primarily formed by dissidents of Xi-You. This appears to be subverted as the rank and file of his forces don't appear to be anything out of the ordinary as Lang Wu Yao is able to hold off a group of them single-handedly and they are outmatched by Azibelpher's demon soldiers.
  • Deal with the Devil: He agrees to work alongside Xing Hai to defeat Shang, although it's shown he doesn't consider her a massive threat.
  • Duality Motif: His hair has a black and white color scheme, signifiying him being the Emperor of Xi-You and the leader of the rebellion against himself, as is his desire to define what is good or evil by himself.
  • Evil vs. Evil: He's definitely a threat to Xi You, but Xi You's royalty are pretty terrible, what with the petty use of soldiers and the displays of people being killed on stage. This gets subverted when it is revealed that the Emperor and Huo Shi Ming Huang are one and the same.
  • Evil Sorcerer: He is described by Shang Bu Huan as a heretic wizard, and it is shown that he practices heretical sorcery alongside a willingness to work with demons to achieve his goals.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Is shown to be affectionate to his daughter Chao Feng although whether or not it is genuine remains to be seen.
  • The Emperor: Is revealed to be the Emperor of Xi-You at the end of Season 3, leading the Divine Swarm from the shadows while his daughter Chao Feng performs all administrative duties in running the country.
  • Flying Weapon: His two swords attached to his silk scarves can attack without him needing to wield them.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: What the first battle between Shang Bu Huan's group and Huo Shi Ming Huang ends up as. Shang Bu Huan, Lang Wu Yao, & Mu Tian Ming working together couldn't land a single hit on him while he was able to injure all three of them. Even the Sorcerous Sword Index appeared to be useless against him as Mu Tian Ming suspects that he had prepared a way to counter it if it was used.
  • Kick the Dog: He singles out and blinds Mu Tian Ming just prove a point to Shang Bu Huan.
  • Light Is Not Good: Huo Shi Ming Huang wears a traditional white outfit, but he is one of the main antagonists and the leader of the Order of the Divine Swarm. And he's the Emperor of Xi-You, who has already been said to be cursed to be evil from Zhao Jun Lin's machinations in the past.
  • Mind over Matter: His main ability seems to be some form of telekinesis, he uses it to protect himself from attacks, control the movement of others, and manipulate his swords.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: His name translates to "Plague of Locusts".
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: He possesses the ability to enchant a location and make himself, or someone allied to him, invulnerable to harm. The effect has limited range and takes time to prepare, so he prefers to remain safely inside such areas to maintain his invincibility.
  • The Omniscient Council of Vagueness: He is the master of such an organization.
  • Orcus on His Throne: He is the most powerful member of his organization and Shang Bu Huan deems it better to Wandering the Earth than remain in Xi-You within his reach. Throughout Season 2 he just waits from afar while Xie Yingluo does all his dirty work... though The Stinger hints taking a more active role in the future.
    • Steps off the throne in a flashback in season 3's episode 6, where it's revealed that his magic is powerful enough that Shang Bu Huan, Lang Wu Yao, and Mu Tian Ming working together were absolutely helpless against him, and only managed to barely escape.
    • At the end of Season 3, during the revelation he is the Emperor of Xi-You, he mentions how certain locations are enchanted to grant him invulnerability. The throne room is one such place, and he constantly remains there because he cannot be defeated while the power is in effect.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Subverted: he tells his minions to prioritize revenge on Shang Bu Huan and recovering the Index over the impending resurrection of Zhao Jun Lin, an existencial threat to the world. However, he's actually the Emperor of Xi-You, who Zhao Jun Lin originally corrupted into their present psychopathic nature. As such, he has little to actually fear from her personally.
  • Running Both Sides: He's actually the Emperor of Xi-You, meaning he's both the Evil Overlord of Xi-You and the leader of the rebellion to overthrow him. It's implied this is due to his desire to be the one who dictates what good and evil actually are.
  • Sorcerous Overlord: What he turns to out to really be, considering the fact he's also the Emperor of Xi-You.
  • Take a Third Option: As a test of competence, he presents Yi Piaomiao (actually Lin Xue Ya in disguise) with a question. Using a weight scale, with one tray representing evil and the other tray representing good, where does he place a stone icon representing Huo Shi Ming Huang? Yi Piaomiao responds the question itself is a trap and chooses not to place the icon on either tray. This out-of-the-box response pleases Huo Shi Ming Huang, and deems Yi Piaomiao to have passed the test. However he then reveals the correct answer was merging the stone icon into the scale itself. Thus making Huo Shi Ming Huang the arbitrator of what is good and what is evil, instead of being defined by either. This foreshadows the reveal he and the Emperor of Xi-You are one and the same, rather than opposing forces, meaning within Xi-You he really is controlled what is considered good and evil.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: He finds it unforgivable for Xie Yingluo to fail her mission to receive the Sorcerous Sword Index and kill Shang Bu Huan.
  • Walking Spoiler: There's a reason about half his entry is blanked out.

A mysterious wizard trapped between dimensions who has a run in with Lou Zhen Jie and creates the man's prosthetic arm.
  • All for Nothing: All Gui Duo Tian Gong's efforts to create an invention to escape the dimension he was trapped in for a decade are for nothing. Tian Gong unintentionally mocks the Seven Blasphemous Deaths in front of Lou Zhen Jie, which results in Lou Zhen Jie abandoning him and destroying his invention beyond repair.
  • Artificial Limbs: Gui Duo Tian Gong has a prosthetic right arm.
  • Cyborg Wizard: A wizard with mechanical eye and arm.
  • Electronic Eyes: Gui Duo Tian Gong has a cybernetic left eye, albeit one with a mismatched color.
  • Heroic BSoD: Gui Duo Tian Gong breaks down hard after Lou Zhen Jie not only uses his invention to escape the dimension alone, but destroys the invention (the only way out) so Gui Duo Tian Gong can't do so, leaving him trapped in it for years.
  • Magitek: In a world full of what's at best Bronze Age technology and fantastic magic, Gui Duo Tian Gong has developed advanced technology that gathers up magical energy to serve his own purposes. He's spent countless time building a machine to focus magical energy to escape the dimension he's found himself in and he has created advanced mechanical prostheses for himself and for Lou Zhen Jie. The prosthetic arm he builds for Lou Zhen Jie even has the ability to transform into a drill-like sword that absorbs magical energy.
  • One-Scene Wonder: After he's betrayed by Lou Zhen Jie, he disappears form the story completely.

Xing Hai's older sister, a demon sorceress who 200 years ago at the close of the War of Fading Dusk infiltrated the court of the new Emperor of Xi-You and sought to lay down curses amongst the new royal family. Upon being discovered for her true demonic nature, she was hunted down by Hu Yin Shi and slain, but enacted a curse that transferred her soul onto whatever killed her: a holy sword wielded by one of the Hu Yin Shi, turning herself into the Seven Blasephemous Deaths.
  • Back from the Dead: Returns alive to the present day thanks to Xing Hai's scheme of retrieving her fresh corpse from the past and rebinding her soul to it with the aid of the empowered Void Junction scrying mirrors.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: While she was slained, she successfully corrupted the Xi-You royal family into a dynasty of bloodthirsty psychopaths that remains such to this very day, which was her goal from the beginning.
  • Beauty Is Bad: She disguised herself as a human in order to infiltrate the Xi-You imperial family 200 years ago and soon learned that men will do anything for a beautiful woman. She ultimately became the Emperor's favorite consort and had him wrapped around her fingers.
  • Bloodlust: She convinced the first Xi-You emperor to curse the nation's children to produce an immortality potion and had him murder dissidents that challenged her position. She personally claims responsibility for how all children in the imperial line seem to desire to watch murders happen before them for their entertainment.
  • The Corrupter: She was the one who corrupted the Emperor of Xi-You 200 years ago, and corrupted the royal family so completely that to this day they tend to still be bloodthirsty psychopaths. She continued doing this after she became the Seven Blasphemous Deaths.
  • Dark Action Girl: She's not just a powerful evil magic user, she's extremely powerful physically and skilled with a blade. She's able to keep up with both Shang Bu Huan and Wan Jun Po at the same time, despite both using swords from the Index.
  • The Dreaded: Everyone is terrified of her to the point the Xi-You guard and the Order of the Divine Swarm footsoldiers agree to an Enemy Mine because the mere idea of her resurrection is that horrifying. Even Shang Bu Huan views her with dread, as he's seen the damage she did as the Seven Blasphemous Deaths and knows she'll be a lot more dangerous if she were to get her body back.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: After Zhao Jun Lin reveals to Lou Zhen Jie that she and Seven Blasphemous Deaths are the same person, she is disgusted because he's not into her true appearance and he insults her and prefers her soul stay trapped inside the sword instead of accepting her for who she is. She decides to leave him in the past so he won't interfere with her plans.
  • Fate Worse than Death: After being stabbed by the original sword that became Seven Blasphemous Deaths, she and Lou Zhen Jie are sent to space where the latter dies and the former is left all by herself trapped in the sword and with Lou's corpse for company.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: As she was the one who corrupted the first Xi-You emperor and his bloodline, the entire plot of the series is basically her doing, directly or indirectly.
  • The Hedonist: Her primary motive in life is to experience pleasure which due to her bloodlust and sadism generally involves getting humans to slaughter each other. Notably, she gloats to her sister about the exquiste taste wine has when paired with witnessing men being torn apart by wild animals.
  • Hot as Hell: She's a seductive demon who uses her beauty and charm as a primary means to bring the downfall of men.
  • Lady of Black Magic:
    • One of the most powerful sorcerers of the demon realm, and one of Xing Hai's demonic sisters. Xing Hai even claims that the Sorcerous Sword Index is not a major threat to a flesh and flood Zhao Jun Lin.
    • This is proven to be somewhat true as most magical swords can't truly defeat her as killing her with such a weapon would only mean said weapon would become her new vessel. It takes two magical swords from the Index wielded by Shang Bu Huan and Wan Jun Po, and Lin Xue Ya's and Lou Zhen Jie's (who wields the magical sword that was Zhao Jun Lin's original Soul Jar) intervention to take her down.
  • Leaking Can of Evil: Her soul ended up possessing the Seven Blasphemous Deaths. While this stopped her from using most of her magic and greatly weakened what she's capable of doing, she still brought about untold ruin and bloodshed. This makes Shang Bu Huan very worried about the prospect of what she'll be capable of if she's resurrected, as then she'll have all the power she had as the Seven Blasphemous Deaths on top of her magic and demonic power.
  • Magic Knight: She's an extremely powerful magic user on top of being an extremely talented with a sword. To note, it takes two extremely powerful swordsmen using swords from the index just to be able to fight her at all.
  • Mind Control: Is still able to use charm magic as she did as a sword, but it isn't her first choice of magic in her flesh and blood body.
  • Our Demons Are Different: Another humanoid demon, like her little sister Xing Hai.
  • Power Floats: She is shown able to float around in her battle against Shang Bu Huan and Wan Jun Po.
  • Please Wake Up: Her final scene has her begging a dead Lou Zhen Jie to answer her as they both float endlessly in space.
  • Sadist: Enjoys watching men slaughter each other for her amusement.
  • Spoiler Opening: Her existence and status as the Final Boss of season 3 is spoiled by the third season's opening which displays her prominently facing off against half of the cast.
    • Although this is somewhat subverted as only Shang Bu Huan and Wan Jun Po directly faces her in combat despite the opening showing that Lin Xue Ya, Lang Wu Yao, Dan Fei, and Juan Can Yun also fighting her.
  • Soul Jar: Due to her magic, she can transfer her soul to any object that has her blood when she dies. This is how she originally became Seven Blasphemous Deaths when the Hu Yin Shi hunted her down in the past and killed her by stabbing her with a holy sword. This makes it difficult for Shang Bu Huan and Wan Jun Po when they battle her, as they cannot outright kill her with their magical swords or else the sword they wield will become a second Seven Blasphemous Deaths with her soul inside.
  • Stronger Sibling: She's Xing Hai's older sister, and much stronger and more dangerous than Xing Hai ever was.
  • The Vamp: Although a powerful sorceress, she relies on seduction and subterfuge to undermine Xi-You's imperial court. It is noted that the first emperor of Xi-You was bewitched by her and commited many foolish acts at her behest. The first thing she does after being resurrected is trying to seduce Lou Zhen Jie by offering him the ecstasy that brought the first Xi-You emperor low; however, due to his Ax-Crazy tendencies, he denies her advances and rejects her true form.
  • Villainous Legacy: She's been dead for hundreds of years, but she was the one who corrupted the Xi-You royal family into the corrupt tyrants they are in present. Her soul also possessed the sword that would become the Seven Blasphemous Deaths, causing all the death and destruction resulting from that. This effectively makes the entire series her doing, directly or indirectly.
  • Walking Spoiler: She is the Final Boss of season 3, and the true identity of Seven Blasphemous Deaths. Much of season 3 involves a plot to resurrect her.
  • Wrecked Weapon: During the final battle against Zhao Jun Lin, Shang Bu Huan destroys the blade of Zhao Jun Lin's duster weapon with the Sword of Azure Dawn.

A demon mage, Count of the Eighth Circle of Hell. Zhao Jun Lin and Xing Hai reach out to him for his abilities in space and time magic, and his propensity for meddling in human affairs. He is Lang Wu Yao's father.

  • Badass Army: As a demon count he commands an army of demon soldiers, each of which is able to take on multiple normal human soldiers. He lends a small force of his army to Xing Hai and Zhao Jun Lin after Wan Jun Po rallies a human army against them, although Zhao Jun Lin questions his motives in doing so. It turns out he's luring Lang Wu Yao to enter the demon realm with the battle between Zhao Jun Lin's and Wan Jun Po's forces.
  • Black Cloak: Azibělpher wears a black cloak to conceal his face and appearance from Lang Wu Yao and Shang Bu Huan.
  • Black Eyes of Evil: Azibělpher has black sclerae and yellow eyes as a humanoid demon.
  • Demon Lords and Archdevils: A demon count who serves an unnamed demon lord, although it's noted by Zhao Jun Lin that he often disobeys the demon lord's orders of not interfering with affairs in the human realm.
  • Fiery Redhead: A demon with flowing red hair like his son and a rather bombastic personality, indulging in various luxuries in his castle in the demon realm as well as giving speeches to allies and foes alike.
  • Horned Humanoid: Like Xing Hai, sports a pair of horns in the form of a hair ornament rather than an actual pair of horns.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: He is revealed to be Lang Wu Yao's father. Years ago, he toyed around with Lang's mother who was a princess in the Xi-You court. After learning that she was pregnant with their child, he revealed his true form to her and blinded her. After the affair was discovered by the rest of the court and they wanted her to abort Lang for his half-demon nature, Lang's mother escaped the court to give birth to Lang and raise him in secret without letting her son know of his true heritage.
  • Odd Name Out: In a world populated by characters with solely Chinese names, Azibělpher's faux Latin name sticks out like a sore thumb.
  • Our Demons Are Different: Another humanoid demon.
  • Sadist: Azibělpher enjoys seeing people suffering as he deceives and torments them. He was the one who destroyed his former lover's eyes after he deceived her with his true form instead of his human form, which she was fond of. He loves his son Lang Wu Yao's despair who now harbors feelings of hatred towards him after he reveals the truth of his origins.
  • Space Master & Time Master: Said to be a master of space and time sorcery to where he freely meddles in human affairs, despite the King of Hell's orders not to interfere after the end of the War of Fading Dusk.
  • Third Eye: He has a third eye on his forehead.
  • We Will Meet Again: Before Azibělpher sends his son Lang Wu Yao back to the present, he tells him that the next time they meet, he will welcome him with open arms. It implies that he wants to teach him how to control his demon powers. At the end of Season 3, Lang Wu Yao decides to go to the Demon Realm to confront him.

Name: 白蓮 Báilián (ZH) / Byakuren (JA) / White Lotus (EN)
Voiced by: Takehito Koyasu

A man who found himself in Wan Yu (萬輿 Wàn Yú / Ban Kou) and is the creator of the original Shen Hui Mo Xie. Shang Bu Huan meets him when he is flung back in time by a scrying mirror and the machinations of Azibělpher.

  • Expy: Of Su Huan-Jen of Pili Fantasy: War of Dragons. In fact, it's heavily implied from both his title of "White Lotus" and an interview with Gen Urobuchi that the two are one and the same.
  • Hero of Another Story: He appears to have endured quite a number of trials himself in his native world, claiming that his journeys have required him to rely on many people, but in doing so he has made many allies like Shang Bu Huan.
  • Humble Hero: Claims to be no different than Shang Bu Huan or any other human despite his reputation of being an immortal xian that saved humanity against the demon hordes.
  • It's All My Fault: When Shang Bu Huan shows Bailian the Sorcerous Sword Index, Bailian emotionally recoils upon the realization that his weapons have caused such suffering and bloodshed throughout the future. However, Shang Bu Huan assuages his feelings of guilt by saying that he only did what he thought was the right thing to do, and the fact that he's now carrying around the Sorcerous Sword Index due to someone with just ideals in mind he is no longer as burdened by the task ahead of him.
  • Light Is Good: A white-haired and white-cloaked human possibly from another world is the creator and distributor of the original Shen Hui Mo Xie, and did so because he realized his mundane weapons from his own world were suited to fighting murderous demon hordes.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: In the world that Bailian originally comes from, his weapons are mundane swords and other tools. However, once he has found himself in Wan Yu, his weapons and anything created in his estate have vast demon-slaying powers. Shang Bu Huan and most of history have thought that the creator of the Shen Hui Mo Xie was an immortal god but Bailian is simply a mortal man acting on his own sense of justice in saving the people of Wan Yu from the demon hordes.
  • Shrouded in Myth: Due to disappearing sometime around the War of the Fading Dusk, there is little known about him in present-day Dong-Li and Xi-You. Most stories claim he is an immortal xian or immortal mountain wizard that was sent by the divine to aid against the demon invasion. In truth, he's a person from another world that somehow became stranded in Wan Yu due to a strange phenomenon, and the weapons he brought with him and that are forged on the site of his estate are imbued with powerful abilities for reasons that are currently unknown.
