Protagonists

     O'Connell Family

In General

  • Badass Family A family full of badasses, from father to mother to son to pet (and sometimes uncle).
  • Good Parents: While Rick and Evy may not be the best parents, they certainly do their best to keep Alex safe and raise him as a good kid.

Alex O'Connell

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alexoconnell.JPG
Voiced by: Chris Marquette
The 12-year-old (later 14-year-old) son of the O'Connell family. A young energetic boy whose playing around sealed his fate as the wielder of the Manacle of Osiris.

  • Adaptation Dye-Job: Alex was blonde in the movies, but he has orange hair here.
  • Ancient Artifact: Has one stuck on his wrist.
  • Animal Lover: Not seen much in the show, Alex is shown to be quite friendly with the more amiable animals. It is mentioned passing that Alex as a tendency to adopt (possiblY) wild animals as pets, which sometimes causes trouble. Tut is his most recent example of this, who quickly became extremely loyal to the boy.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: In the episode 'Spring of Evil', Alex momentarily loses himself after he gets possessed by the dark magic of the Evil Spring, which causes him to turn against his father and allies. He regains himself after having a "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight with his dad.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He is his father's son after all.
  • Free-Range Children: Has a lot of freedom compared to other kids his age. His parents seem okay with letting him run around as long as they know where he is, with someone they know, and/or out of danger. Evy does tend to tug on the leash a bit if Alex wanders without their permission.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: The Manacle of Osiris arbitrarily works and sometimes doesn't. Eventually Alex does gain some control over the Manacle, but since he destroyed the Scroll of Thebes, it is unlikely that Alex will ever get full control of the manacle.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Due to being on such a big rush to get the Scroll of Thebes, Alex is never in one place for too long. He eventually gets lonely since he doesn't have other his age to hang out with. He laments that he just shouldn't make friends if he was going to leave them as soon as he makes them.
  • Kid-Appeal Character: Alex is the only recurring child character in the show.
  • Kid Hero: He wasn't really one at first, but by the second season he has become sort of a hero.
  • Look What I Can Do Now!: Alex was quite excited to show his father how much he has improved as a Medjai after some time away from them learning now to defend himself.
  • Tagalong Kid: Was one for quite a bit of the first few episodes, prone to getting kidnapped and was often a liability. He becomes less so more into the show.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Used to be very dependent on his parents and the other adults for his safety, but he eventually learns how to hold his own, especially once he picks up Medjai training and some control over the manacle.
  • Wake Up, Go to School & Save the World: Alex doesn't go to school anymore by the end of the first episode, but he is being homeschooled by his parents even while being hunted by a 3000 year old mummy.

Rick O'Connell

Voiced by: John Schneider
An American adventurer who is also a father and a husband in the O'Connell family.

  • Action Dad: Definitely qualifies as this.
  • Adaptation Dye-Job: He was a brunette in the movies, but is blonde in this universe.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Sometimes called 'Ricky' by his wife.
  • Badass Normal: Even though he doesn't have any magical abilities, Rick is usually the one stepping up to fight Imhoptep whenever the family gets into danger.
  • Battle Couple: With Evy.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: For a short while during the episode 'Howl', where he is bitten by a Lyncanthrope and transforms into a wolf. He regains his senses after Alex pulls him back to a human form.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Does a lot of this.
  • Family Man: Most definitely. He always puts Evy and Alex above his own safety. His worst fear is actually the fear that he wouldn't be able to protect his family.
  • Happily Married: Married with Evy and has a son.
  • Jealous Parent: Often gets jealous when Alex starts idolizing other men other than himself.
  • Papa Wolf: Don't you dare lay your hands on Alex. Funnily enough, he literally becomes this episode, "Howler", where he turns into a wolf and then protects Alex in that form.
  • Parents in Distress: Rarely, since most of the time it's Alex who needs a hand, though sometimes, Alex ends up saving his hind.

Evelyn "Evy" O'Connell

Voiced by: Grey DeLisle
A world-famous British archaeologist who happens to be a mother and a wife in the O'Connell family.

  • Adaptation Dye-Job: Her hair is adapted to red.
  • Action Mom: Does her fair share of saving the day while also being a mother. Tends to evoke this trope the most when her son is in danger.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Her full name is Evelyn, but she is called Evy by both her husband and her older brother.
  • Back from the Dead: She dies in the first episode of Season 2, but is brought back to life.
  • Badass Normal: While not as strong as her husband, Evy's resourcefulness and ingenuity makes her able to stand on equal ground as some of the baddest monsters.
  • Berserk Button: Tends to lose her cool when Alex is missing and/or in grave danger.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: With her brother Jonathan. Despite being the younger sister, she's definitely the more responsible one and the one looking out for him.
  • Mama Bear: Evy gets even more vicious than her husband if Alex is in danger. She says this verbatim when Weasler refuses to tell her where her son is in the first episode, all the while threatening to kill him by dangling him over a deadly ditch.
    "Don't mess with a mum."
  • Parents in Distress: While most of the time she's keeping Alex out of danger, her son sometimes returns the favor.
  • Reincarnation: She is the reincarnation of the Egyptian Princess, Nefertiri.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: She's a complete opposite of her irresponsible and selfish older brother, Jonathan.

Jonathan Carnahan

Voiced by: Tom Kenny
Evy's foolish older brother and a good friend to Alex.

  • Adaptation Dye-Job: Like his sister, Jonathan now has red hair.
  • Childish Older Sibling: Definitely more childish than his younger sister, Evelyn.
  • Cowardly Lion: He is afraid of danger and is easily shaken, but braves up when he has to.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: Doesn't seem particularly invested in the main plot and usually ends up tagging along on the adventures to get out of some trouble or just to travel.
  • Only Friend: Alex remarks that his uncle is one of few consistent friends he's had. Jonathan definitely seems happy to hear that he is a friend to his nephew.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: He's the completely opposite of his responsible and humble younger sister, Evy.

Tut

Alex's pet mongoose he adopted on a whim.

  • Action Pet: Belonging to a family who is in constant action calls for this. Tut is probably the only other member of the O'Connell family after Rick who has the most points attacking Imhotep straight on.
  • Intellectual Animal: Tut is way smarter than your average mongoose and is able to understand human speech and commands despite being initially a wild animal.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: Named after the Egyptian King, Tutankhamun.
  • Only Friend: For a while, the only other friend besides his uncle that Alex had was Tut.
  • Team Pet: One to the O'Connells.
  • Loyal Animal Companion: Tut shows this to Alex and by extension, the O'Connells. Ever since Tut was adopted by Alex, he has rarely ever left the boys side and has shown to be one of Alex's most loyal companions.
  • Weasel Mascot: Though, he's a mongoose, not even in the same family, but is in spirit this.

     Other Allies

The Minotaur

A Minotaur who the O'Connells met in a labyrinth. He was originally a Medjai who protected the Scrolls of Thebes from Napoleon, until he decided to be transformed into a Minotaur.

  • Baritone of Strength: He has a very deep voice that is befitting of a Minotaur, courtesy of Kevin Michael Richardson.
  • Big "SHUT UP!": His first line is aimed at Evy after he captures her and brings her to his lair.
Evy: I'm warning you, we've taken down creatures that make you look like a sock puppet!
    Minotaur: QUIET!
  • Forced Transformation: He transformed from Medjai to Minotaur so that he could protect the Scrolls of Thebes.
  • Our Minotaurs Are Different: As we all know, Minotaurs are part-man and part-bull. However, this particular Minotaur used to be a Medjai.
  • Was Once a Man: He was originally a Medjai until his transformation into a Minotaur.

Antagonists

    Imhotep

Imhotep

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/imhotep_3.jpg
Voiced by: Jim Cummings
An evil priest who tried to use the Scroll of Thebes and the Manacle of Osiris to rule the world. He was mummified alive, but was brought back.

  • Adaptational Wimp: He's not as powerful as his live action movie counterpart, who was basically an undead apocalyptic god. Here, he's not as strong and can be fooled more easily. Probably justified as he stays in mummy form mostly. In a chapter when fully regenerated, he's closest to his movie counterpart in power. Furthermore, he is still more powerful than his 1932 counterpart making him something of a downplayed example.
  • Back from the Dead: Has been dead for over 3000 years, but then was brought back using the Book of the Dead.
  • Big Bad: He is one for the series.
  • Came Back Wrong: Due to his exorcism being interrupted he spends most of the series trapped in a state between un-death and life, which is presumably why he isn't as powerful as he was in the film,
  • Dishing Out Dirt: One of his many powers.
  • Elemental Powers: Sometimes he does.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: He has a very deep, threatening voice courtesy of Jim Cummings.
  • Technically-Living Zombie: Evy's spell to send him back to death was interrupted, causing him to be stuck somewhere between living and dead.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Has no qualms trying to kill or capture Alex, who is just a kid.

    Colin Weasler
Voiced by': Michael Reisz
Imhotep's incredibly British minion of varying degrees of willingness.

    The Scarab
A large Scarab who was brought to life after Alex and the mercenary approached him with the Manacle of Osiris.

  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: He is a huge purple scarab beetle and is in league with Imhotep.
  • Purple Is Powerful: His chitin is a very dark shade of purple.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: He is first seen transformed into an Amulet by the Manacle of Osiris, then the mercenary whom Alex was accompanying disintegrates the cage that he was imprisoned in, thus releasing him.

    Anck Su Namun
Voiced by: Lenore Zann
A High Priestess femme fatale and love interest from Imhotep. She serves as antagonist in some episodes from season 2.

  • Adaptational Badass: She got great magical powers on pair with Imhotep.
  • Cursed with Awesome: For kill and betray the Pharaoh's daughter, she was executed, mummified and cursed... with magical powers on pair with Imhotep, as sand control, telekinesis, super strength, flying, elemental powers, among others.
  • Dark Action Girl: She is clearly one of the most powerful villains, and probably Evy's archenemy.
  • Evil Sorceress: She was an ancient high priestess, and a resurrected mummy.
  • Femme Fatale: She killed Princess Nefertiti in ancient Egypt, tried to steal a powerful artifact, is an expert hand to hand combat, evil sorceress and after her resurrection got vast supernatural powers. By her crimes in ancient Egypt, she was executed and named "Viper" after her high treason. Evy even says that she is "the most dangerous woman on Earth".
  • Hero Killer: She killed Princess Nefertiti in their past lifes, and almost kill Evy.
  • Love-Interest Traitor: She betrays Imhotep, as she want the power and world dominaciĆ³n only for her.
  • Mummy: She is a resurrected mummy with vast magic powers.
  • Rapid Aging: She is defeated in this way in her second defeat, by breaking a magic ring that gives her the power to steal youngness.
  • Regretful Traitor: After her second defeat, Imhotep finds her in the Underworld. She begs him to free her, but after her treason to him, he leaves her in the Underworld, presumably forever, as she cries in frustration.
