Avos Dilhevia

False Demon King of Tyranny

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/avos_dihevia_anime_profile_picture.png
Voiced by: Kishow Taniyama (Japanese), Kirk Thornton (English) [fake Avos], Nene Hieda (Japanese), Jackie Lastra (English) [true voice]

"I have taken everything from you. I took your name, I took your subordinates, I took your castle, and now, I've even taken the very symbol of your power."

Misa's true identity, the great spirit of the legend... of Avos Dilhevia, the fictional demon king created by the hero Kanon to be a scapegoat to take the blame and hatred for the demons' actions during the Mythical Age in place of Anos. She is also the child of the Great Spirit Reno and Shin Reglia: the Demon King of Tyranny's right hand, as well as possessing divine power due to the Heavenly Father God Nosgalia "blessing" the child to become the "Child of God", making her a mix of spirit, demon, and god.

She was "created" by Nosgalia to be a Tyke-Bomb who could at last kill Anos, the greatest enemy of the gods in the Mythical Age, and release the God of Destruction, Abernyu from their prison as Anos' castle so that they might once again bring death and ruin on all who opposed the gods.
  • Achilles' Heel: Due to being spawned from the rumors and legends of the Demon King of Tyranny, who is vulnerable to the Spirit God Human Sword Evansmana, and believed by the humans to have been defeated by its wielder: the Hero Kanon, Avos is just as vulnerable to them. Anos and his group take advantage of this by pitting her against Lay; who is Kanon reincarnated, with him overwhelming her until she was rescued by Nosgalia's intervention.
  • All-Encompassing Mantle: Before she revealed her identity as the true Avos, she wore a cape alongside her mask when she announced her goals as part of the magical broadcast that would have revealed the true Demon King.
  • Berserk Button: She gets enraged when she is negatively compared to Anos, to the point that she becomes murderous at the mere insinuation of it.
  • Big Bad Friend: The false demon king who seemingly stole Anos' position is none other than Misa, Anos' classmate. For extra irony, she is the President of his fan club.
  • Blood Knight: She shows shades of this, as she was very eager to fight Anos in order to prove her superiority over him.
  • Boomerang Bigot: She despises hybrid demons despite being one herself. Justified by the fact that her personality is formed on the basis of the rumors and legends that the Royalists believe about the Demon King of Tyranny, as they projected their ideals onto the Demon King.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: She is fond of using Anos' catchphrase of "Did you think that..?", using her own variations during her fights.
  • Break Them by Talking: After she and Misa are separated and about to die due to being split, she attempts to break Misa's will and have them remerge by telling her that Lay/Kanon doesn't love her, just as he doesn't love Avos herself, as he was supposedly willing to kill them to save the world. Misa tells her off.
Avos: Think carefully, fool. Would someone who truly loved you try to destroy you? Would they choose the option that risked your death? No, not if they loved you. Hero Kanon is merely trying to save the world, as he did two thousand years ago. He’ll never love you, just like he’ll never love me.
  • Clap Your Hands If You Believe: As a spirit, she gains whatever powers people believe she has. Nosgalia took advantage of this to give her the powers of Kanon's fictional Demon King, Avos Dilhevia, and make a second Demon King who could kill Anos and take control of his castle.
  • Cool Mask: She wears an identical-looking mask as Kanon's version of Avos, as due to her nature as a spirit, her mask took on the appearance of his mask, since he already appeared before the citizens of Dilhade in his Avos guise. The mask also has a 2 unique power: as it disguises her voice and also conceals the magic wavelength of her source, therefore disguising it.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Despite her subtle Blood Knight tendencies, she is pragmatic enough to use any advantage she can obtain before she has to face Anos. Such as sending Anos' brainwashed subordinates to fight him, knowing that he will have to hold back against them so she could steadily drain his magic power before their fight, or trying to delay their fight until she can obtain Venuzdonoa.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Becomes Anos' ally in earnest following her defeat and Misa becomes the dominant personality within her.
  • Distaff Counterpart: She can be considered one to Anos, as she is the female Demon King of Tyranny, who was born from the rumors and lore of Kanon's fictional Demon King alias.
  • The Dragon: She's actually carrying out the plans of her "father", the Heavenly Father Nosgalia, rather than being the one driving the plans to kill Anos and release the Goddess of Destruction.
  • Evil Knockoff: Nosgalia deliberately created Avos for the specific purpose of countering and defeating Anos, as well as releasing the God of Destruction from her imprisonment. It is implied that he changed his original plan of creating a "Child of God" based on the legends of a Demon King-destroying divine spirit after he was beaten by Anos and he became aware of Hero Kanon's plans to create the identity of Avos Dilhevia as a scapegoat for human hatred towards the Demon King of Tyranny.
  • Evil Overlord: She becomes one after she takes control of Dilhade from Anos, as she promoted the principles of demon royalty and enslaves hybrid demons in order to strengthen herself and her followers.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: Unlike Misa's higher pitched voice, which gives off a more "girly" vibe, Avos has a deeper voice, giving her more of a dignified "queen" like presence, befitting her status as the Demon King of Tyranny.
  • Evil Wears Black: She wears a black dress, which matches her black hair.
  • Fantastic Racism: She has hatred towards humans and hybrid demons. Her hatred towards humans is the result of the human's legends about the Demon King of Tyranny, who perceive them as a threat to humankind. Meanwhile, her hatred towards hybrid demons is the result of the Royalist's belief that the Demon King will create a country exclusively for pure-blood demons upon their reincarnation.
  • Heel–Face Reincarnation: After Lay cuts her down, Anos takes advantage of her Clap Your Hands If You Believe existence by adding a new chapter to her legend. Despite this, Misa also retains the ability to transform into Avos and gain abilities similar to the true Demon King of Tyranny.
Anos: The resurrected Demon King of Tyranny is destroyed once more by the Sword of Three Races. With the blessing of the holy sword, Avos Dilhevia reincarnates into her true form as the spirit Misa, no longer half spirit, half demon.
  • Heinz Hybrid: While she is a half-demon and half-spirit hybrid, she is also considered part god due to the fact that Nosgalia helped in her conception by "blessing" her with the order of the Child of God during the time of her conception.
  • Icy Blue Eyes: She has them, which contrasts with Anos' red eyes.
  • Insistent Terminology:
    • She continuously refers to Lay as Kanon, as that is likely a consequence of her lore, recognizing him as her original arch-enemy.
    • She has a habit of using some terminology that Nosgalia uses, such as calling Anos a "misfit" and placing a great deal of importance on divine order. This most likely stems from the fact that she was given the order of the Child of God, which causes her to obey Nosgalia.
  • Irony:
    • The Demon King of Tyranny that the royalist faction worships and reveres is in fact a hybrid demon.
    • The original goal of Kanon's creation of the identity of Avos Dilhevia was to provide humans with a scapegoat they could kill to free them of Jerga's influence, thus protecting Anos and the peace that the two of them created. This version of Avos, who is spawned directly from the lore of that identity, was created as means of killing Anos and proclaimed her desire to conquer the world.
    • Despite being an advocate of a Royalist pureblood doctrine, it is noted that Avos' alter ego was one of the most outspoken advocates of the Unitary, a faction of demons seeking peace between hybrids and purebloods.
    • She is the embodiment of the legends of the Demon King of Tyranny, yet she also harbors romantic affection for the Hero Kanon, the Demon King of Tyranny's greatest enemy, due to the fact that Avos' transient self Misa is in love with his reincarnation: Lay Grandsley.
  • I Shall Taunt You: She loves taunting her enemies, as seen when she makes her debut after taking control of the Seven Elder Demon Emperors and Delsgade from Anos. She is either taunting her enemies, gloating, or trying to break them psychologically.
  • Kill and Replace: She wants to kill Anos, so she is the only Demon King of Tyranny left.
  • Legacy Character: Avos is unique example of this, as the first Avos Dilehvia was the Hero Kanon/Lay, who created the identity in the first place as a scapegoat for human hatred towards demons. This Avos is directly based on Kanon's version of Avos, as she is formed from the legends of Avos that he spread. She even wears the same mask as him, as a spirit's appearance is shaped by people perception of them, as Kanon already appeared before the demons as Avos.
  • Literal Split Personality: She becomes one to Misa when she and Misa are divided into two after Lay severed her fate with Evansmana.
  • Living on Borrowed Time: After she and Misa are separated, both of them start to fade away as a person cannot live with only half a source. Avos attempts to avert this by quickly attempting to kill Misa and reabsorb Misa's half of their source back into a single whole.
  • Loophole Abuse: Avos can cast Agronemt to restore her source after Lay stabbed her source with Evansmana despite the fact that she didn't receive an attack from Evansmana prior, as she was able to satisfy the conditions for its activation via her legends and lore, as in the legends of the Demon King of Tyranny, it was stated that they were defeated by Hero Kanon and his holy sword Evansmana.
  • Mass Hypnosis: As the spirit that embodies the legends of the Demon King of Tyranny, she has control over Anos' Mythical Age subordinates and the Seven Elder Demon Emperors, due to them being strongly associates with the legends of the Demon King of Tyranny. However, it is noted that she cannot control the demons of the Magical Age, as there are no legends that the Demon King of Tyranny rules over the demons of the current era. To compensate for that, she uses her own magic Demera, to get them to obey her.
  • Moveset Clone: Due to being the spirit that is the embodiment of the legends of the Demon King of Tyranny, she possesses many of Anos' abilities and can use all of the magic he uses.
  • Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: In the anime, Avos is considered both a half-spirit/half-demon, due to being the true form of Misa, who is a half-spirit/half-demon, but she is also considered a pure-blood demon. This most likely stems from her spirit power altering her to fit into the beliefs of the Royalists, who believe that the Demon King will reincarnate a royal pure-blood demon.
  • Not Good with Rejection: After Lay/Kanon pretends to give into her only to reveal his continued rejection of her and insults her by taunting her as fake, by telling her that Anos would have killed him already; especially if he was reduced to a single source and had his holy sword depowered, Avos gets enraged and decides to try to kill him, as her anger overwhelms her desire to turn him to her side.
  • Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Unlike Misa, who has short brown hair and a fair skin, Avos has long black hair and a slightly paler complexion, which gives her a more evil "goth" look, symbolising Misa's fall from grace.
  • Really 700 Years Old: She was born shortly after the end of the Great War, despite looking like a teenager as Misa and a woman in her 20s as Avos.
  • Right Under Their Noses: The fake Demon King Anos is trying to find is the classmate who's the head of his fanclub.
  • Samus Is a Girl: Despite taking her powers and identity from the legend of a fictional version of the male Anos, she herself turns out to be female.
  • Sexier Alter Ego: Compared to Misa; who is The Cutie, Avos is noted to have a more overtly seductive if dangerous appeal.
  • Split-Personality Merge: After Misa's reincarnation, Avos and her merge into a single personality, with Misa being the dominant one. However, when Misa transforms into her Avos form, she gains some traits similar to Avos, as she becomes more confident and ruthless toward her enemies. Sasha noted that Misa becomes very Anos-like when in her Avos form.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Avos functions like one for Misa, as the rumors that form her essence as a spirit give her the power and personality of the Demon King of Tyranny, which manifest as a cruel alternate personality.
  • Tyke-Bomb: She is a combination of spirit, demon, and god empowered with all the belief in the otherwise fictional scapegoat Avos Dilhevia, created and artificially aged to serve as the ultimate weapon for the Heavenly Father God Nosgalia to finally kill the Demon King Anos for good.
  • Villainous Face Hold: Avos starts caressing Lay/Kanon's face after she immobilizes him, as she attempts to tempt and seduce him into becoming hers.
  • Villainesses Want Heroes: Despite her lore stating that she is Kanon's enemy, she is in love with him due to Misa's own feelings for him sublimating in her heart, as she offered him a chance to join her.
  • Urban Legend: Avos Dilhevia was originally nothing but a made-up story by Kanon, who didn't want the man who sacrificed his life to bring peace to the world to still be hated and feared by it when he finally reincarnated 2000 years later.
  • The Usurper: She usurps Anos' position as the Demon King of Tyranny and the ruler of Dilhade. Due to her spirit powers, she gains control over anything that is known to be under the control of the Demon King, as she gains control over his subordinates and castle.
  • Yandere: She is one for Lay/Kanon, stating that if he wouldn't become hers, she would tear him to pieces and keep his sources in a bottle of magic so that she can have him to herself.
Avos: Become mine, Kanon. My transient form is now my true form. I am both Misa and Avos Dilhevia.
Lay: You’re different from the girl I know.
Avos: It’s a trivial difference. Misa’s feelings have sublimated into my heart. I feel the same attachment to you.
Lay: What if I said no?
Avos: Then I’ll take you by force. I’ll tear you into shreds and stuff your sources into jars of magic so that you’ll always be mine alone.

    Nosgalia

Nosgalia

Heavenly Father God

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nousgalia_profile_3.png
Voiced by: Yūya Uchida (Japanese), J. Michael Tatum (English) [true voice], Rikiya Koyama (Japanese), Jonah Scott, J. Michael Tatum (English) [while possessing Eldmed]

Fools who spit on heaven, receive thy punishment for defying order. Look upon the face of god.

The Heavenly Father and the overarching antagonist of the first arc of Misfit.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: He is one to the Great Spirit Reno. While he is handsome, Reno refused his offer of mating with him to produce the "Child of God", due to the fact that she wasn't interested in his plans against Anos and due to the fact that bearing a hybrid child would cause her death because of her lore.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: According to Anos and Lay, Nosgalia has a unique sense of values as he is obligated to follow the promises he makes despite his own personal feelings. This is demonstrated when he calmly goes back to teaching Anos' class after attempting to kill them as if nothing happened.
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: Killing him would result in the world falling apart, so Anos settles for reviving him at only 10% of his original power.
  • Control Freak: He holds Anos in contempt for stopping the cycle of creation and destruction that the gods decreed. Anos considers him an arrogant god who can't stand mortals trying to control their own destinies.
  • Demonic Possession: He takes over Eldmed's body in order to give a lecture to Anos' class and attempt to kill them.
  • Evil Is Petty: Due to being weakened by Anos and thus being unable to hurt the demons, he settles for lowering their grades if they annoy him just because he can.
  • God's Hands Are Tied: Despite his malevolent nature, he cannot raise his hand against those that do not interfere with his order. However, if it is someone like Anos, who is actively working to disrupt the order of the gods then he can interfere himself. Not that he is strong enough to defeat Anos, though...
  • God Is Evil: The Heavenly Father God, who kills his own allies for his plans and whose main objective is to unseal the god of destruction. A god that will bring untold death upon every race other than the gods in an otherwise peaceful age. And a god who doesn't even wish to be unsealed, having long since left its original body to live a mortal life.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: He's the one behind everything bad happening over the first 4 volumes. This includes: cooperating with Jerga to create spells to destroy Anos, Shin's seeming betrayal of Anos, and the death of the Great Spirit Reno. As well as the creation of an actual Avos Dilhevia who wants to kill Anos, despite Kanon creating the name as a fictional scapegoat.
  • Kick the Dog: Telling Reno that Shin's love for her was a result of him using his powers has Shin gain feelings and that Misa wasn't truly Shin's daughter, as he tore Misa from Reno's womb which caused Reno to die.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: He has a very handsome appearance, with long blond hair and a very muscular physique.
  • Magical Incantation: Nosgalia possesses the ability to accomplish various feats via his "Divine Words", such as commanding magic to stop working, suffocating demons students who annoy him, and even temporarily negating the power of the Spirit God Human Sword Evansmana.
  • The Man Behind the Man: He was the one helping Jerga create new spells to kill Anos.
  • Named Weapons: Nosgalia has a personal divine weapon called the Divine Sword Rodoyuie. He demonstrated the ability to summons countless numbers of them to attack his enemies.
  • Never My Fault: Justifies his numerous monstrous actions as simply what is required to restore the "proper order", and even suggests he is merely a system to restore said order, and thus is in no way responsible for what a massive jerk he personally is.
  • Playing with Fire: Nosgalia possesses the ability to create divine flames to judge sinners, which is noted to be very powerful.
  • Sadist Teacher: After giving a lecture about gods and order to Anos' class, he attempts to take away their ability to breathe by denying his claims. Even after Anos weakens him, Nosgalia is still petty enough to threaten to lower the grades of anyone who annoys him.
  • Stalker with a Test Tube: To the Great Spirit Reno, as he wanted her to be the womb to give birth to the "Child of God", which would destroy the Demon King.
  • This Cannot Be!: He is in utter shock after he is burned by the Sun of Destruction after he manages to partially revive Abernyu, as he wondered if Anos had managed to fully subjugate her into obeying him.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: He claims that Anos killing Aberneyu makes it much harder for people to die permanently, making it impossible for new races to be born, since creation requires equal destruction.

    Graham

Graham

Misfit

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/graham_posing_as_celis.jpg

I also like love and kindness. That it is always filled with beautiful despair. It's fragile and easy to crumble, a breeding ground for ugliness and hatred.

A powerful misfit, who like Anos, was powerful enough to defy the orders of the gods. He is the overarching antagonist of the second arc of Misfit.

  • Antagonist Abilities: Due to the unique nature of his source, he possesses Complete Immortality, which prevents him from being killed by conventional means.
  • Complete Immortality: As a result of his Source of Nothingness, Graham is un-killable. Even Anos directly applying Egil Grone Angdroa on his source to destroy it didn't kill him, as Graham's source regenerates when it returns to nothingness. However, while his regeneration is strong, it is not all-powerful, as Anos succeeded in containing Graham's source inside of his own, where the destructive power of Anos' source would eventually fully destroy him.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: He is responsible of killing Anos' parents, thus leaving him an orphan and corrupting Viaflare into trying to destroy the entire Underground World. He is also responsible for the creation of the God of Gears Eques.
  • Headless Horseman: Due to experimenting with the corpse of the Zeylon demons, he succeeded in acquiring their abilities, as he became a headless demon. This allowed him to survive Anos' beheading curse, as the spell was rendered ineffective due to Graham lacking a head in the first place.
  • Identity Impersonator: Graham has stolen the names and identities of various individuals and used them for his own benefit and schemes:
    • Even his supposedly "true" name wasn't his originally, as he stated that he had forgotten his original name, so he took to calling himself Graham, after stealing the head of Hero Graham.
    • After decapitating and killing Celis Voldigoad, he stole his head and usurped his identity, specifically to try to manipulate Anos.
    • He also falsely presented himself as Viaflare's deceased lover and his former partner-in-crime: Boldinos, so he could use Viaflare to control Boldinos' country of Gadeisiola for his own end and to have Viaflare cooperate with him.
  • It Amused Me: Why would he instigate countless tragedies throughout the Mythical Age and well into the Magical Age? Because he was bored due to his immortality and found Anos to be an interesting prospect.
  • Power Parasite: Due to the unique ability of the Zeylon bloodline, he was able to replicate the powers of Celis Voldigoad after he stole his head and began wearing it.
  • Sinister Scythe: He owns a unique divine weapon: the Disorder Falsification Divine Scythe Befenguzdogma, which is created by transforming the God of Frenzy Aganzon into a divine weapon. It possesses the ability to use Aganzon's falsification authority to distort reality. While Graham says that the results of the scythe are random and can even negatively affect him, Anos observed that in the end, the scythe's effect will produce a result that will ultimately be beneficial to him.
  • Smug Super: Due to his vast power, he is very smug about his abilities and flaunts his powers against opponents who he thinks do not stand a chance against him.
  • Stalker without a Crush: He has continuously stalked and observed Anos ever since he was born, as he took an interest in him due to both of them having unique sources.
