    Tiifu
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ness.jpg

Voiced in English by: Sarah Hyland (season 1 to The Rise of Scar), Bailey Gambertoglio (season 2 onward)
Voiced in Japanese by: Chiaki Yonemoto

A female cub from the Rock Pride, and one of Kiara's friends. She is a stickler for the rules, and trusts the judgement of her friends.

  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She gets jealous whenever Kiara hangs out with someone who could become her new bestie.
  • Girly Girl: She's nurturing and bubbly and much like Zuri loves looking her best and giving makeovers to Kiara.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: In "Fuli's New Family," she was quite resentful about Fuli joining in on her and Kiara's practice hunt, even thinking Fuli was trying to become "Kiara's new bestie."
  • Invisible Parents: If her parents are still around, the show rarely, if ever seems to mention or even hint at them. Of course, her mother is likely just another pridelander lioness, but she has so far never been seen, which is odd, given that Tiifu is only a young cub. (Though other children in the show don't have their parents mentioned either)
  • Jerkass Ball:
    • In "Can't Wait To Be Queen," she and Zuri reacted to Kiara being made acting queen by setting themselves up as her advisors, talking down to others and ignoring their opinions.
    • She goes into this again in "Fuli's New Family", angry that Fuli has committed the great crime of hunting near Kiara.
  • Meaningful Name: Tiifu means "obedient", likely a reference to how she follows the lead of Kiara, even referring to herself as the princess's lady-in-waiting.
  • Nice Girl: She comforts Zuri after she breaks a claw and is generally a very sweet cub, but she does have her moments of being snarky and possessive mainly to others who question Kiara's position as queen and gets jealous if other animals try to form a deep friendship with her. Her kind nature is once again showcased in "The Underground Adventure", where she sympathizes with Thurston over their fear of the dark.
  • Odd Friendship: Develops one with Thurston the zebra in "The Underground Adventure," when they bond over being afraid of the dark.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Justified, as Tiifu and Zuri are both minor characters, and Simba's Pride focused on Kiara and Kovu. Its entirely possible that they are among the lionesses in the second half of the film.
  • Those Two Girls: With Zuri.
  • Took a Level in Dumbass: In the Return of the Roar movie, she came off as sensible and down to earth. But later in the series, she seems to be just as oblivious and air-headed as Zuri.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: "The Underground Adventure" reveals she is afraid of the dark. She is fine with nighttime darkness, but she panics when she's in a place that's always dark. She overcomes it thanks to Kuchimba's advice.
  • Youthful Freckles: She has three dark spots of fur on each cheek.

    Zuri
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ness2.jpg

Voiced in English by: Madison Pettis
Voiced in Latin American Spanish by: Ivanna Sánchez
Voiced in Japanese by: Emi Miyajima

Another of Kiara's friends within the pride. She is vain, and not as adventurous as her friends.

  • Damsel in Distress: She is first seen with her claw stuck in a log. In a Polish comic, she is trapped by Makku during a flood.
  • Girly Girl: She loves sharpening her claws to make them shinier and dreads it when she breaks one of them, is not a big fan of anything mucky or gross, and loves helping Kiara look her best by giving her a makeover and enjoys giving one to herself as well.
  • I Broke a Nail: When Bunga fouls up Timon and Pumbaa's attempt to free Zuri, her claw breaks.
  • Invisible Parents: Her mother has never been seen before, and is rarely, if ever, mentioned or hinted out. (although her father likely would not have been around anyways, seeing as Simba is head of the pride and male lions do not usually share prides) Her mother likely is just some other pridelander lioness, but she is conspicuously absent at all times.
  • Jerkass Ball:
    • In "Can't Wait To Be Queen," she and Tiifu reacted to Kiara being made acting queen by setting themselves up as her advisors, talking down to others and ignoring their opinions.
    • She along with Tiifu go into this as well in "Fuli's New Family", regarding Fuli hunting alongside Kiara (though Zuri is more indifferent than outright contemptuous).
  • Picky Eater: She dislikes gazelle, calling it "hyena food."
  • Meaningful Name: Zuri means "beautiful" which is fitting, given her obsession over her looks.
  • Narcissist: The reason she was stuck in the log? Because of her tendency to sharpen her claws in every piece of wood she passed, as she wanted to keep them shiny.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Justified, as Tiifu and Zuri are both minor characters, and Simba's Pride focused on Kiara and Kovu. Its entirely possible that they are among the lionesses in the second half of the film.
  • Rescue Romance: Played for Laughs. In a Polish comic, if Kion chooses to save Zuri first, then she will nuzzle him, much to his disgust, and the Guard's amusement.
  • Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: She's got eyeshadow-like markings around her eyes.
  • Those Two Girls: With Tiifu.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: She is terrified of bugs.

    Tamaa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tamaa_img_1_2.png
Yes, it's true. I can sound like other animals, any other animal in the Pride Lands, really. It's my little talent.
Voiced by: CJ Byrnes

A drongo bird who has the ability to imitate the voices of other animals.

  • Artistic License – Ornithology: Tamaa using his voice mimicry to steal food from the other animals is seen as him simply being too lazy to hunt and gather food for himself. But in real life, while it's true they can gather food for themselves, forked-tailed drongos gain about a quarter of their daily calories this way. However, Tamaa appears to be based on the greater racket-tailed drongo, which only sometimes use their vocal mimicry to scare away animals and steal their food. Too bad that species is native not to Africa but to Asia.
  • Heel–Face Turn: While not exactly a villain, he does cause a lot of trouble using his voice mimicry to scare off other small animals to steal their food. Janja capturing him and forcing him to use his ability for evil causes him to decide using his mimicry for good from now on.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: His ability to imitate voices causes Janja to capture him.
  • "I Am" Song: "Bird of a Thousand Voices".
  • Informed Species: His exact species is not possible to clarify. Given the African setting and his use of voice mimicry to gain food, he is apparently meant to be a fork-tailed drongo, but he also has tail streamers and a small head-crest which makes him look more like a greater racket-tailed drongo.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Starts off as a Jerkass using his ability to scare off small animals and steal their food, and after supposedly agreeing with the Guard not to do it anymore when they confront him he still tries to mooch off the food from the other small animals and quickly goes back to his old ways. But after Janja captures him and forces him to lure the impalas into the Outlands with his ability, he soon uses it to scare the hyenas allowing the Guard just in time to chase them off and save the impalas. He has changed for the better by his second appearance, now using his ability to get food the legitimate way (as an entertainer) and is willing to help the Guard when asked.
  • Misplaced Wildlife: While Africa has drongos, Tamaa is instead based on an Asian species (specifically, the greater racket-tailed drongo).
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: He does a pretty good job in distracting the jackals while the Guard goes after the hyenas, but then he gives his position away by trying to replicate the Roar of the Elders which he can't.
  • Red Baron: See "I Am" Song above.
  • Voice Changeling: Just like real drongos, he can imitate the sounds and voices of other animals. But it does have limits; he can't replicate the Roar of The Elders or produce anything of similar sound.
  • You Could Have Used Your Powers for Good!: As Kion tells him, he could have used his voice mimicry to safeguard the Circle of Life instead of tricking other animals. Later after using his ability to defeat Janja's and his lackeys, he vows to use it for good from now on. "Divide and Conquer" shows he now uses his ability to entertain the other Pridelanders in exchange for food, as well as fooling enemies under the Lion Guard's request.

    Mtoto
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mtoto.png
Voiced by: Justin Felbinger

A male elephant calf from Ma Tembo's family. He sees Beshte as his hero and role model.

  • Artistic License – Biology: He has small tusks in his lower jaw. Real elephants (and the adult elephants in the show) have tusks in their upper jaw. When he is older in the Season 3 premiere, his tusks are properly shown in his upper jaw.
  • Fan Boy: For Beshte. When he pretends to be the Lion Guard with his friends, he always chooses to be Beshte.
  • Honorable Elephant: He hopes to grow up into a hero like Beshte.
  • Meaningful Name: Mtoto is the youngest recurring character in The Lion Guard, so fittingly his name means "child" in Swahili.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Being an elephant, he's pretty darn cute when we first meet him.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Like all elephants, he's scared of bees.

    Ajabu
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2016_07_08_19_16_18.png
Voiced by: Ron Funches

An okapi who is chased into the Pride Lands. Beshte is the first animal to befriend him.

    Aardwolves
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2016_07_20_21_45_491.png
Voiced by: Charlie Adler (Mjomba), Marieve Herington (Ogopa), and Ogie Banks (Haya)

A pack of aardwolves who live in the Pride Lands, keeping the termite population in check.

  • All There in the Manual: Ogopa and Haya's names are not mentioned in the episode, but revealed in the credits.
  • Food as Bribe: The Guard fully convinces the aardwolves to come home to the Pride Lands by promising them that they can eat the termites, which are the reason they need to bring the aardwolves back.
  • Informed Flaw: They are stated to have a strong resemblance to the hyenas, but at first glance, they do not look too much like their carnivorous counterparts.
  • Mistaken Identity: The main conflict of their debut episode is the Guard kicking them out of the Pridelands due to mistaking them for hyenas.
  • Shrinking Violet: They are as shy and timid as real-life aardwolves. This causes a problem when the Guard come to retrieve them after accidentally kicking them out of the Pride Lands, as they are terrified of the Guard as a result.
  • Taxonomic Term Confusion: They're often stated to look like hyenas, which they get offended by if told so. In real life, aardwolves actually are a species of hyena.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Termites, also Truth in Television.

    Kifaru and Mwenzi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maxresdefault_1_83.jpg
Kifaru (rhino) and Mwenzi (oxpecker).
Voiced by: Maurice LaMarche (Kifaru) and Rhys Darby (Mwenzi)

A white rhinoceros and red-billed oxpecker pair.

    Kulinda
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kulinda_img.png
Voiced by: Elise Allen

A mother hamerkop.

  • Good Parents: Ono describes her kind to be very good parents, and sure enough she's always very loving and caring to her daughter. She only leaves her un-hatched egg in Ono's nest so it could be in a safe watch until she's finished building a home that's better protected from predators.
  • Mama Bear: She will fight hawks and vultures to defend her young.
  • Meaningful Name: Kulinda means "protect" in Swahili, and this reflects to her being a Mama Bird.
  • Nice Girl: A kindly citizen of the Pride Lands, so long as you don't mess with her offspring.

    Chama, Furaha, and Mzaha
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rafikis_new_neighbors_103.png
Voiced by: Jacob Bertrand (Chama), Mekai Curtis (Furaha), and Cade Sutton (Mzaha)

A bachelor trio of young male animals, who became outcasts from their respective groups due to their carefree, mischievous nature.

  • All of the Other Reindeer: Chama, Furaha and Mzaha are this among their respective groups, where their playful antics aren't appreciated.
  • Big, Thin, Short Trio: Chama is a bulky elephant, Furaha is a short red colobus monkey and Mzaha is a svelte sable antelope.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: As silly as they may be, they can be very serious and competent if the situation calls for it, as shown when they rescue Rafiki and Makini when a dry lightning sets their tree on fire.
  • Fratbro: Chama, Furaha and Mzaha are as close to this as wild animals can get.
  • Honorable Elephant: Played with. The other elephants disapprove of Chama due to his silly nature, but he and his friends do help the Guard put out the fire near Rafiki's tree.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Chama the elephant is the leader of his group of friends. Chama in Swahili means "club" or "group," which both describe his "fraternity" with Furaha and Mzaha.
    • Furaha means "Happiness" in Swahili, reflecting his fun-loving nature.
    • Mzaha likes fooling around with his pals, and he headbutted his fellow herd members for the fun of it. Mzaha means "Joke" in Swahili.
    • It's probably not a coincidence that all their names have the word "ha" in them.
  • Mischief-Making Monkey: Furaha loves to have fun and fool around with his pals. Deconstructed as the other monkeys of his troop do not approve of his behavior and sent him away for it.
  • Misplaced Wildlife: Zanzibar red colobuses live on the island of Zanzibar, unlike Furaha and his troop.
  • Nice Guy: As silly as they may be, they're good creatures at heart.
  • True Companions: All three end up leaving their groups and coming back together, realizing the only group they fit in is their own trio. The song "Three of a Kind" is all about this.
  • Use Your Head: Mzaha loves to headbutt things, and was sent away from his herd due to headbutting the other antelopes. This turns out to be useful when putting out the fire surrounding Rafiki's tree.

    Hodari
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hodari_img.png
Voiced by: Justin Hires

A William's dwarf gecko who has dreams of becoming a member of Makuu's float.

  • Animal Stereotypes: Heroic lizard? Check. Cute and lovable with a dash of awkwardness? Check. Climbs walls and licks his eyes? Check.
  • Badass Adorable: A cute little gecko with the courage of a crocodile. He doesn't let his small size stop him from saving Makuu from Kiburi, even jumping onto the evil croc's snout to hinder him.
  • Blue Is Heroic: A heroic electric blue gecko.
  • Brains and Brawn: The Brains to Makuu's Brawn, which certainly evens the odds when raw strength fails the crocodiles, allowing him to cover any weaknesses Makuu might have.
  • Failed a Spot Check: For someone who sang about his own skills, among them being stealth, he failed to notice they were being spied at.
  • Four Legs Good, Two Legs Better: Played with. He often stands on his hind legs, but he also just as often goes on all fours.
  • Good Counterpart: Although they don't meet in the same episode, Hodari seems to fit as one for Kenge. While Hodari is a tiny gecko who aspires to be a crocodile, he isn't really sensitive about his size. Kenge, on the other hand, is a huge monitor lizard (considered the Unpleasant Animal Counterpart to a gecko) who loses his temper anytime he's called little, or if anyone implies it.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: When put on the spot, Hodari trusts Kiburi and his crocs - who he's known for all of ten minutes - over Beshte and the Lion Guard - who've dealt with them before - because of what happened earlier with Makuu. This comes back to bite him.
  • Karmic Jackpot: After Hodari's David vs. Goliath scenario with Kiburi, Makuu becomes so impressed that he rewards the gecko a place in his float.
  • Lovable Lizard: A heroic gecko who wants to become a crocodile, not letting his small size get in the way.
  • Meaningful Name: Hodari means "brave/capable" in Swahili. Hodari bravely jumps onto Kiburi's snout to distract him and give Makuu a Heroic Second Wind, which earns the gecko the respect of Makuu and his float.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: After Kiburi betrays him and beats up Makuu, Hodari becomes guilt-ridden and states it's all his fault since he's the one who gave away information about the Pridelander crocs' fighting techniques to Kiburi's float. Which is worsened by the fact that he also ended his friendship with Beshte and the Lion Guard for Kiburi's float earlier.
  • Red Baron: "The Honorary Crocodile"
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Comes with being a gecko.
  • Too Clever by Half: Hodari may have a lot of cleverness to make up for his lack of stature, but he tends to showboat his talent. As a result, he ended up making himself look foolish in front of Makuu, who clearly had no patience it, and worse, easily gullible in the eyes of the bad guys.
  • Unwitting Pawn: His extensive knowledge of new fighting techniques used by Makuu's float gives Kiburi and his float an advantage when they challenge the former group.
  • Wall Crawl: Naturally. As a gecko, he possess sticky pads on his hands and feet for clinging onto vertical surfaces, ceilings, and even the bodies of larger animals. This ability becomes useful when distracting Kiburi from murdering Makuu.
  • Weak, but Skilled: What allows him to synergize with Makuu, who is Unskilled, but Strong. Hodari has memorized a lot of fighting techniques, and can effectively improvise when thrust in a David vs. Goliath scenario with Kiburi, coming up with new skills when Makuu is not at 100%.

    Kongwe
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_wisdom_of_kongwe_527.png
Voiced by: C.C.H. Pounder

An elderly sulcata tortoise who is one of the wisest animals of the Pride Lands.

  • Cool Old Lady: An older female tortoise who offers sage advice to her peers.
  • Cryptic Conversation: She often speaks in riddles when sharing her wisdom with others (for example, "He who chases two hares will catch neither.").
  • Gentle Giant: She's big enough for Fuli to ride on, and has a warm personality. Truth in Television, as sulcata tortoises are known for being the largest mainland tortoises, and for having docile temperaments.
  • Meaningful Name: Kongwe means "ancient" in Swahili, which fits for a tortoise (known for having long lifespans).
  • Nice Girl: Kongwe is very wise, calm, kind-hearted, patient, and grandmotherly.
  • Red Baron: "The Wisest of the Wise"
  • Sturdy and Steady Turtles: Not only does she move slowly, but she prefers to take things at a slow and calm pace, making observations along the way. Fuli is initially exasperated by this due to the fact they're in an Escort Mission (and, being a cheetah, she would rather do everything fast), but she gradually takes her advice to heart especially when it becomes useful in defeating Makucha.
  • Wise Old Turtle: She's known to be the wisest animal in the Pride Lands, having seen many things throughout her long life.

    Kinyonga
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kinyonga.png
Voiced by: Meghan Strange

A color-changing veiled chameleon.

  • Achilles' Heel: If she gets scared or nervous, she'll lose control of her camouflage and change colors wildly.
  • Action Girl: She is able to hold out against Shupavu and her skinks quite well on her own, until she ends up in a dead end.
  • Badass Adorable: A cute, little chameleon who is an Action Girl.
  • Cartoony Eyes: Averted. Her eyes are accurate for a chameleon, namely having the joined eyelid that covers most part of the eye (which is often omitted in cartoons). She does have small eyelashes as Tertiary Sexual Characteristics, though.
  • Distaff Counterpart: To Hodari, as they're both small, heroic lizards who wish to take on huge challenges others are wary of letting them take, and sing songs emphasizing how their size doesn't matter when they've got a unique skill. Additionally, they're both quick, clever, and very stealthful.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": Kinyonga means "chameleon" in Swahili.
  • Exact Eavesdropping: She reveals to the Guard that she knows about Scar's return, having overheard it from the skinks. And since she's a chameleon...
Ono: The skinks talked about Scar? Right in front of you?
Kinyonga: It's amazing what you hear when nobody can see you.
  • Good Counterpart: She is this to Shupavu, both being spies for opposing sides.
  • Hollywood Chameleons: Of the type that can turn invisible.
  • "I Am" Song: Sings "Now You See Me, Now You Don't" as she demonstrates her camouflage and color-changing ability to the Guard.
  • Lovable Lizard: She follows the portrayal of chameleons as colorful Badass Adorable heroes. She insists helping the Lion Guard by spying on Scar in the Outlands upon overhearing their predicament, despite them warning her it would be very dangerous if not life-threatening.
  • Misplaced Wildlife: She is based on a veiled chameleon, which is native to the Arabian Peninsula rather than Africa.
  • Multipurpose Tongue: Her very long and sticky chameleon tongue can be used to outwit adversaries.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: She looks different than the other chameleons previously seen in the series, being comparatively more detailed and having eyes realistic for a chameleon.
  • Prehensile Tail: Being a chameleon, she has a curled tail for grabbing onto things.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: As expected from a chameleon, almost as cute as Pascal.
  • Somewhere, a Herpetologist Is Crying: In addition to near complete invisibility (which real life chameleon's obviously can't do), she changes color much too quickly. Additionally, while some chameleons change color to blend into their surroundings (and even then, not nearly the extent that Kinyonga does), it's more often used for social interaction.
  • Weak, but Skilled: When dealing with more formidable opponents, Kinyonga relies on her reflexes and wit as well as her camouflage, prehensile tail, and long and sticky tongue.

    Kuchimba
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maxresdefault_495.jpg
Voiced by: AJ McLean

A golden mole who lives underground.

  • Berserk Button: Intruding and stealing his tunnels, due to his species being territorial.
  • Blind Mistake: Averted. Despite being blind (in fact, he doesn't even have eyes, which Zuri points out), he makes no mistake in guiding the gang through the tunnels until they get as far as his territory expands. It helps that he still has other senses to help him navigate, such as his ability to feel vibrations (just like real golden moles).
  • Eyeless Face: He doesn't have eyes, instead having dark spots where his eyes should be. This is Truth in Television; golden moles have their eyes covered over by furry skin as a result of living in total darkness underground.
  • Meaningful Name: Kuchimba is Swahili for "dig".
  • Non-Standard Character Design: His design looks like he came right out of Lilo & Stitch.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Despite lacking eyes, he's quite adorable. Zuri even lampshades this.

    Nala's father
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nalasfather.png

Nala's father and Sarafina's mate. As a cub, he was once rescued by the Lion Guard of his day.
