Val Morando

"No place for the royals can hide is beyond my reach."
(SPOILER AHEAD) Click here to see him in the finale

Appearances: 3Below

Voiced by: Alon Abutbul

He is the General of the Taylon Phalanx who was exiled from his home planet, Akiridion-5, for his treachery against House Tarron, and in turn, returned and took over the planet through a military coup.

  • 0% Approval Rating: Nobody likes him and he doesn't care. He doesn't want to earn his subjects' love or loyalty like the Tarrens has, just their obedience and the power that the throne offers.
  • Alien Invasion: Morando led a coup d'etat on his homeworld, and took over it for his own diabolical purposes. He also wants to invade Earth.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Upon merging with Gaylen's Core, Morando grows to massive proportions where he personally attacks Arcadia.
  • Bad Boss: When Krel and Aja escape, he kills the person that brought him the news.
  • Big Bad: He is the main reason that the main characters escaped to Earth and the one who directs the bounty hunters to hunt them.
  • Collapsible Helmet: He is seen wearing a helmet when he makes his introduction in the first episode, which he deactivates, causing it to disappear Star Lord style.
  • Deity of Human Origin: He manages to get a hold of Gaylen's core and become a god in the process. He, however, is destroyed before his power grows enough to recreate the universe as he planned.
  • Evil Is Petty: He's the kind of tyrant to kill you for reasons like reporting bad news.
  • Evil Overlord: He takes a very hard stance against the citizens of Akiridion-5; worship him or die.
  • The Exile: Was exiled before his coup at the start of the series.
  • Extra Eyes: Much like Vex, he has four eyes.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Whatever politeness he exudes does little to conceal the bastard that he is underneath.
  • Galactic Conquerer: Morando wants to make Akiridion-5 a galactic superpower with him at the helm.
  • Godhood Seeker: When he finds out that Gaylen's core is somewhere on Earth, he changes his motives to getting it with the intent of becoming a god and remaking the universe in his image, killing the royals and ruling over Akiridion-5 becoming mere perks in comparison.
  • Jerkass: He is, simply put, a massive and vicious asshole.
  • Kick the Dog: Plenty to count, but most significantly, he blows up Buster into goop simply because "[he] hates bugs", when he was clearly trying to defend House Tarron and their friends; Buster was no mere "bug", but family (especially to Luug, who mourned his unfortunate demise).
  • Knight of Cerebus: He's a power-mad dictator whose overthrow of house Tarron and Akiridion-5 is played completely seriously, and his attempts at ending the royal family make him just as menacing.
  • Magic Pants: His clothing grows alongside him after he becomes a Physical God via merging with Gaylen's Core.
  • Manipulative Bastard:
    • Convinced Varvatos to betray the House of Tarron by telling him that no one would be hurt. In fact, to make sure Varvatos accepted his offer, it was HIM that hired the Zeron Brotherhood to kill Varvatos' family, causing Varvatos to be bitter at the royals who refuse to give chase to the ones who did it.
    • Convinced Kubritz that he would NOT harm the Earth as long as he gets what he wants, and even gave her some weaponry to protect Earth. It takes him rampaging across Arcadia at the size of a kaiju to make her realize he's going to destroy Earth along with the rest of the universe.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Compared to the humanoid Akiridions with the exception of Loth Soborian, Morando has a much more demonic and monstrous appearance, and with the top of his head shaped like a pair of horns.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: In season 2, he plans on remaking the universe once he gets his hands on Gaylen's Core.
  • One-Winged Angel: In "A Glorious End, Part 1", Morando absorbs Gaylon's core and transforms into a giant god-like alien monster that is unstoppable.
  • Orcus on His Throne: In the first part of the series premiere, Morando is content to send bounty hunters after Krel and Aja while he solidifies his take-over of Akiridion-5 and builds new superweapons. This changes when his attempt to broadcast the deaths of the royals fails, and he plans to head to Earth soon.
  • Power Gives You Wings: Just when it seems like the heroes and their allies have him on the ropes in the final battle, Morando further empowers himself and sprouts a pair of red wings made out of Hard Light. They look exactly like the wings Gaylen sported in the hologram depicting his legend.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: After he's merged with Gaylen's Core, Morando is completely black, save for his eyes and neon lights, which have turned red at this point. He also gains red wings shaped like Gaylen's.
  • Red Is Violent: Ironically, he is blue like the rest of his species, but all of his tech is associated with the color red. However, he comes to play this trope straight once he merges with Gaylen's core, gaining a primarily red color scheme.
  • Satanic Archetype: His primary color motif is deep, seething red, his head is shaped in a manner that evokes horn imagery, and his goal is to become a god and remake the universe in his own image. Morando's favorite cardinal sin seems to be treachery, as he betrayed his King and Queen to start a coupe and take the crown for himself under a fascist dictatorship, he convinced Varvatos to betray them for him (even having engineered his family's death to make him more willing) and he promises to help Colonel Kubritz defend the Earth by providing advanced weaponry with every intention to destroy the Earth when he is done with it. Even Kubritz's Sergeant describes their deal with him as "a Deal with the Devil."
  • The Sociopath: A cruel, power-hungry dictator who is Chronic Backstabbing Disorder incarnate and is willing to pursue his goals at any cost, even if it means screwing over his allies in the process.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Despite him having committed high treason against House Tarron in the past, which is punishable by death, the King and Queen decided to have mercy on him by banishing him and the Taylon Phalanx from Akiridion-5 instead. How does he repay their grace? By ordering the Zeron Brotherhood to bomb Sattelite-Nine, thus killing hundreds of innocents including Varvatos Vex's family, so he can use Varvatos to lower the shields while falsely promising him that everyone will be left unharmed. And when that's done, he takes over the planet, leading to the King and Queen's cores being put in stasis. He then sends bounty hunters to kill Aja and Krel and bring the King and Queen's cores to him so he can crush them, and therefore kill them.
  • The Usurper: An illegitimate ruler who usurped the righteous rulers of Akiridion-5.
  • What the Hell Is That Accent?: Morando speaks in an odd, hard to identify accent (a fruit of his VA's hybrid accent, originated due to being an Israeli with French-Algerian and Egyptian ancestry).
  • You Have Failed Me: He executes Tronos Madu for failing to take down the Royals.

Bounty Hunters

The Zeron Brotherhood

    As a whole
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zeronbrotherhood.jpg

A trio of ruthless bounty hunters who will stop at nothing to claim their prize, not even killing innocent civilians.

  • Arc Villains: The main antagonists for most of season one, with Morando remaining on Akiridion-5 (until he sends the OMEN in the finale).
  • The Dreaded: Even Vex is wary about the thought of facing them.
  • Dwindling Party: Beta dies first due to being shot by Varvatos, then Omega is crushed by the Zerons' ship due to a bomb Varvatos planted on their ship. Finally, Alpha is stabbed by Varvatos after kidnapping him and taking him to the bounty hunters' outpost on the Moon.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Despite their evilness, they care deeply for each other and actually seek revenge for being hurt.
  • The Heavy: Morando is the one that commanded them to go after the royal aliens, but he is far away from Earth to actually act on anything, leaving the brotherhood to do most of the damage and be most of the problems faced by the royals.
  • It's Personal with the Dragon: While Morando is the one who launches the coup on Akiridion-5, Varvatos takes it personally with them for being responsible for the death of his family.
  • No Kill like Overkill: The Zerons once bombed an entire civilian building, killing hundreds of innocent people, including Varvatos Vex's family, just to claim a single bounty. It's eventually revealed that General Morando employed them to do so while hiding this from Varvatos, so he could manipulate him into lowering the shields of Akiridion-5.
  • Terrible Trio: They are a group of three who work together to get their bounty, regardless of how many lives are ruined along the way.
  • Theme Naming: They are all named after Greek letters. The wolf is Alpha, the cat is Beta, and the lizard is Omega.
  • The Unfettered: Nothing will deter them from fulfilling their contract, even if that means they leave behind a high body count.

    Zeron Alpha
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zeron_alpha_masked.png
"Give our regards to your family, Comander."

Appearances: 3Below

Voiced by: Darin De Paul

The ruthless de-facto leader of the Zeron Brotherhood with dog-like features.

  • Arch-Enemy: To Varvatos Vex, being the leader of the Zeron Brotherhood that killed his family. He even taunts him about his family's demise by revealing that Morando ordered him and the Brotherhood to do so, and at one point holds Aja and Krel hostage to have him bring over the cores of King Fialkov and Queen Coranda.
  • The Leader: Serves as this for the Zeron Brotherhood.
  • Shout-Out: His design and clothing greatly resemble several depictions of Anubis.
  • Would You Like to Hear How They Died?: He mocks Varvatos over the fact that Morando sent him and the Zeron Brotherhood to murder his family so he could manipulate Varvatos into lowering the shields of Akiridion-5.

    Zeron Omega
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zeron_omega_masked.png

Appearances: 3Below

Voiced by: Ann Dowd

The right hand of the Zeron Brotherhood with lizard-like features.

  • Reptiles Are Abhorrent: Her body build slightly resembles that of a lizard.
  • Squashed Flat: Ends up getting crushed to death by the Zerons' own ship thanks to a bomb set off by Varvatos.

    Zeron Beta
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zeron_beta_masked.png

Appearances: 3Below

The left hand of the Zeron Brotherhood with cat-like features.

  • Cats Are Mean: Beta has a resemblance to a cat, specifically his slit pupils or the pointed ears in his helmet.
  • Silent Antagonist: Beta is never heard speaking, unlike Alpha and Omega.

Others

    Halcon

Bertha Flanagan/Halcon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ftc_snapshot_2810129.jpg

Appearances: 3Below

Voiced by: Fiona Shaw

A mysterious birdlike bounty hunter who infiltrates Arcadia in order to hunt down the royals.

  • Bird People: Halcon has several birdlike attributes such as flight, squawking when she speaks, and not being able to see glass. Her human disguise even uses "Birdie" as a nickname.
  • Cold Sniper: She is a deadly marksman who would've shot Krel's core out of his body had Dadblank not blocked her shot with his briefcase
  • Flight: She is capable of flying at fast speeds despite lacking any wings.
  • Foil: She is one to the Zeron Brotherhood in terms of how they pursue targets. While both are ruthless and willing to fulfill their contracts by any means necessary, the Zerons don't give a rat's ass about who or what gets in the way of collecting their money and are all too willing to destroy an entire civilized area just to take down one target, as shown by their bombing Commerce Guild that slew Vex's family. On the other hand, Halcon opts for the tactic of "research and destroy", studying her targets either from a distance or in disguise until she finds the right moment to strike.
    • She is also a foil to Vex, as both of them are blue-colored aliens and lethal warriors armed with serrators who pose as elderly citizens on Earth. But while Vex is a noble-natured yet zealous warrior who takes time to understand human customs, Halcon adapts to Earth culture much faster, posing as a strict member of the special advisor to the school board who uses her deception to learn where the royals are hiding out.
  • Meaningful Name: Halcón is the Spanish name for Falcon Bird, which is quite a fitting name for a predatory bounty hunter who is also a member of a Bird People race.
  • Obstructive Bureaucrat: She gives Aja and Krel a ton of paperwork to fill out to prove they're U.S. citizens, but that's only so she can find out where they live to ambush them and take their parents' cores.
  • Racist Grandma: Her human disguise comes off as this, being scathing and suspicious of Aja and Krel due to them clearly not being from the United States to the point where Senior Uhl tells her to lay off them

    Magmatron

Magmatron

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/magmatron_profile_picture.png

Appearances: 3Below

Voiced by: Fred Tatasciore

A large, violent, trash-talking bounty hunter who is a member of a race of mechanized, magma-fueled beings called Cindorites from the volcanic planet Cindor. He comes to Earth in hopes of collecting the bounty placed on the Tarron Family but faces resistance from Aja, Krel, Zadra, and their human allies.

  • Hoist by His Own Petard: He's destroyed by being smashed between the two halves of his severed hammer.
  • I Shall Taunt You: According to Mother, all Cindorites are fond of "trash-talking". It's amplified with his Large Ham approach.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: He's weak to water and easily stops in his tracks when a sufficiently big amount of water hits him.

    Tronos Madu

Tronos Madu

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tronos_profile_picture.png

Appearances: 3Below

Voiced by: Danny Trejo

An electrothermal lifeform from the planet Voltar that hunts for the royals partly out of a desire to win the bounty on their heads but also out of revenge because their mother and father would not come to his planet's aid when it was being destroyed by a civil war.

  • Heel–Face Door-Slam: Aja convinces him that they can be better than her parents. Since they didn't help him save his planet, she asks him to save Earth, now that their places are swapped. After helping Aja and Krel escape, he's recaptured and subsequently killed by Morando.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: He gets killed by Morando when he comes to Earth, being pierced by Morando's sword as soon as he figures out he helped the Tarron family.
  • It's Personal: Aja and Krel's parents refused to help him when his planet was being destroyed by civil war, he takes it personally to end Aja and Krel's lives, therefore.
  • Last of His Kind: It is strongly implied he is the only survivor of his planet's destruction, which makes his murder by Morando the final extinction of his species.
  • Reptiles Are Abhorrent: His physical form resembles a large, menacing lizard.
  • Shock and Awe: His body is made out of electricity and it can spew lightning when attacking.
  • Token Good Teammate: Out of all the bounty hunters, he is the only one who actually tries to redeem himself, though it doesn't end up working.

    Gwendolyn of Gorbon

Gwendolyn of Gorbon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gwen_profile_picture.png

Appearances: 3Below

Voiced by: Kathleen Turner

A hulking bounty huntress from the planet Gorbon who is also Stuart's ex-girlfriend.

  • Ambiguous Situation: In the end, it's revealed that Gwen is a bounty huntress hired by Morando to reconnaissance the Tarron siblings, but it's unknown if she truly has a fiance to keep her cover and just saw Stuart as a bonus for her mission and if she still truly wants to stay friends with Stuart.
  • Crush the Keepsake: Basically how she allows Stuart to live.
  • Evil All Along: Gwen is revealed to be working for Morando.
  • I Am a Humanitarian: The custom of Gorbonites in a relationship is to either mate for life, or eat their ex. Stuart manages to survive by presenting a keepsake of their previous relationship, which Gwen eats in lieu of Stuart himself. Fortunately, it works and finally leaves him alone.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: Gwen dwarfs Stuart in stature.

    Foo-Foos

Foo-Foos

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/foo_foos.png

Appearances: 3Below

Voiced by: Tom Kenny (the Destroyer) and Matthew Waterson (all other Foo Foos)

A species of small, rabbit-like, mechanical beings. They reproduce quickly and are all bounty hunters working together.

  • Explosive Breeder: While not outright stated, it is heavily implied that they are this.
Varvatos: How are there always so many of you? Varvatos destroyed scores of you on the moon.
Foo-Foo: You left two of us alive.
  • Killer Rabbit: They're cute, small rabbit-like beings that are dangerous bounty hunters.
  • Mister Seahorse: They can reproduce even if there are only two males.
  • One-Steve Limit: Inverted. All of the Foo-Foo's are named "Foo-Foo" in a Gang of Hats sort of way, differentiating by their "The Magnificent" titles.
  • Phrase Catcher: They're often questioned about how they reproduce so quickly.
  • Punny Name: All Foo-Foo's are named "Foo-Foo" the Adjective, and are experts at fighting. In other words, they are Foo Fighters.
  • Wild Card: They have loyalty only to who's currently paying them, while they spend most of the series fighting the royals for a bounty, just paying them is all it takes to make them allies.
