    As a whole
  • Brother–Sister Team: Aja and Krel are siblings, and are noted to work well together.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Aja had a habit of neglecting her royal duties, unwilling to face the responsibility, and was known to be quite rash. Krel, despite his fears of the same duties, would fulfill them when needed and is more level-headed than his sister.
  • Irony: When the series begins, Krel hates Earth and is eager to get back to Akiridion-5, while Aja is running away from responsibilities and eager to experience life as a normal person. By the end of the series, Krel has decided to stay on Earth as he considers it his new home, while Aja goes back to Akiridion-5 to serve as queen.
  • Nice, Mean, and In-Between: Aja is the Nice, Varvatos Vex is the Mean, and Krel is the In-Between.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Aja is the more outgoing red oni and makes an effort to not just adapt but participate in life on Earth, while Krel is the blue oni who adapts only grudgingly, and prefers to spend time with his sister over Puny Earthlings.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: Krel's the level-headed, somewhat grumpy Savvy Guy; Aja is the rash, excitable Energetic Girl.
  • Strong Girl, Smart Guy: Aja is a warrior-in-training, while Krel is a tech wiz-kid.

Appearances: Trollhunters | 3Below | Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans

Voiced by: Tatiana Maslany

A teenage alien princess disguised as a human girl who appears in Season 3 of Trollhunters and is one of the main protagonists along with her brother in 3Below.

  • Action Girl: She's got some impressive combat skills, especially after being trained by Vex.
  • Angelic Aliens: Steve refers to her as a "ninja-kicking angel", and still sees her as beautiful even after seeing her true form for the first time.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Aja is older than Krel and will kick anyone's ass if they threaten him in any way.
  • But Now I Must Go: She decides to return to Akiridion-5 as acting queen, as her parents died and her brother decided to stay on Earth.
  • Catchphrase: "Lively."
  • Character Development: At the series' start, all Aja wanted to do was run away from any kind of responsibility and be normal. However, as she grows in skill, patience, and maturity throughout the series, she also comes to realize why her responsibilities matter. And at the series finale, she decides to leave Earth in order to rule Akiridion-5.
  • Character Witness: Aja saved Izita's daughter from falling rubble during the coup, leading the older woman to become a member of the rebellion to restore the Tarrons to the Akiridion throne.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: To Jim from Trollhunters. Jim is a responsible, only child, that always steps up to the occasion, whereas Aja is much more rebellious and emotional than he ever was. Jim wanted something amazing to happen in his, but Aja just wanted to be normal.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: She feels unfulfilled as a princess and has spent most of her life trying to find something else. Eventually, she realizes that her calling is on the battlefield.
  • Homeworld Evacuation: After the Arcane Order opens the Genesis Seals and unleashes the Titans, Aja says that Earth needs to be evacuated to Akiridion-5 or another planet due to Jim's lack of self-worth, deciding that she'll go through with his plan to stop the Titans until the ships arrive. Unfortunately, the evacuation would've been All for Nothing because the Arcane Order isn't just out to Restart the World, they're plotting to destroy the universe first, meaning not even Akiridion-5 would be safe.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Aja wishes she could just be a normal person on her own planet and sees going to Earth as a chance to do that, but the fact she has to hide who she really is while fighting bounty hunters leaves her frustrated that no matter where she is she can't be normal.
  • Interspecies Romance: She gets into one with Steve Palchuk, with her being Akiridion and Steve being human.
  • Kick Chick: Zig-Zagged. Among other fighting styles, Aja also gives off strong kicks which can send her opponents flying. She's especially a fan of face-kicking, and in "Flying the Coop" she learns how to do a toe kick, using one to knock a bigger bounty hunter many feet across her home.
  • Long-Distance Relationship: Having returned to her home planet, she and Steve decide to try a really long-distance relationship.
  • My Greatest Failure: She's wracked with guilt over delaying her parents' escape from Morando's attack, leading to them being forced into their cores.
  • Nature Lover: Unlike Vex and Krel, Aja loves the organic nature of everything she comes across. She especially loves trees.
  • Nice Girl: A sweet, friendly, good-natured girl who cares deeply about her planet and the people she loves.
  • Put on a Bus: Unlike Krel, Aja is completely absent in Wizards as she's back on Akiridion-5, but she is mentioned by her boyfriend, Steve, when he sends her a text before the Battle of Killahead begins. It's unclear if she ever got the text.
  • Rebellious Princess: She spent her whole childhood trying to get out of being a princess, and was actually in the middle of her latest escape attempt when Morando's attack came.
  • Red Is Heroic: Aja is this in human form, which gives her a red button-up shirt.
  • Rightful Queen Returns: Once Morando is defeated, Aja accepts the Akiridion throne.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Inverted. The fact that she doesn't resemble her brother at all is a clue that her human form is just a ruse. Played straight in their true forms, where they could easily be mistaken for Half-Identical Twins.
  • The Bus Came Back: After her absence in Wizards, Aja returns in Rise of the Titans.
  • The High Queen: By the time of Rise of the Titans, Aja is already this a year after 3Below.
  • Unaffected by Spice: Being an alien allows her to eat the Diablo Maximus Breakfast Burrito without flinching, which astonishes Toby, who can eat it but had to build up a tolerance for spicy food to be able to enjoy it.
  • Uptown Girl: Being a princess, Aja counts as this for Steve.

Appearances: Trollhunters | 3Below | Wizards (2020) | Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans

Voiced by: Diego Luna

A teenage alien prince disguised as a human boy who appears in Season 3 of Trollhunters and is one of the main protagonists along with his sister in 3Below.

  • Alien Arts Are Appreciated: Subverted, much to his chagrin. He uses some remixed dolphin noises as music before realizing the humans don't get it and then dials it down to "easy listening", which translates to rave music in Earth terms.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Downplayed. He and Aja get along fine and are quite close, but he does have a tendency to annoy her.
  • Badass Bookworm: He's a Teen Genius, and can fight for his own self-worth, although he isn't as good as his sister, but makes up for it with his skills with tech.
  • Character Development: Krel starts off as being the most desperate between him and Aja to return home as he finds Earth to be nothing more than a "mudball". As he bonds with his human friends and grows to love music, he quickly grows an appreciation toward the planet, even dubbing it his home. He even decides to stay in the series finale.
  • Fantastic Racism: He doesn't think much of humanity at first, but gradually grows to respect it as the series goes on.
  • I Choose to Stay: Ultimately decides to stay on Earth, declaring it his new home.
  • Insufferable Genius: His haughtiness and impatience with Earth's lesser-developed sciences don't endear him very much to his fellow students and the season ends with him having barely made any friends.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Krel is much more haughty than his sister and has a much lower opinion of Earth, but he is capable of showing care for others, even those outside of his family.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: Aja is often overwhelmed by her emotions and needs the calm, balanced mind of her brother to help her.
  • Non-Action Guy: Played With, he's not useless in a fight, but compared to Vex and Aja, he's only just barely able to defend himself. Often while Aja and Vex are doing the fighting, Krel will be doing tech stuff, like disarming a self-destructing evil robot.
  • Playful Hacker: He uses alien tech to turn the Janus Order's secret hideout into a rave.
  • Puny Earthlings: Hardly an episode goes by where Krel doesn't degrade humanity or their technology. In season 2, he is shown to grudgingly accept Earth and show that his greatest fear is losing his new home to Morando.
  • Teen Genius: Even by the standards of his race, Krel is considered a technological genius with no equal.

King Fialkov Tarron & Queen Coranda Tarron

Fialkov & Coranda Tarron

Appearances: 3Below

Fialkov Voiced by: Andy García
Coranda Voiced by: Tatiana Maslany

The king and queen of Akiridion-5 and the parents of Aja and Krel Tarron. Following an attack on their home by General Val Morando, they are both injured and spend the majority of the series in regeneration pods to heal while their children work to protect them.

  • Action Dad /Action Mom: They are both skilled with serrators and use them with great skill.
  • Big Good: They are both this, being the beloved rulers of Akiridion-5.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Used to great dramatic effect. When their cores are finally revived, the first thing they do is calmly walk into a battlefield over to the cannon aimed at Morando, and power it with their cores.
  • The Good King /The High Queen: They are both beloved by their people for being just and fair rulers.
  • Good Parents: Fialkov is this by supporting his son's interest in inventing while Cordana shows that she doesn't hold it against Aja for not wanting to become Queen in waiting
  • Heroic Sacrifice: In the final episode of the series, they use their cores to power the weapon to defeat General Morando.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: When General Morando and his troops are outside their palace, they are at the front lines of defense, ready to fight them off to protect their children.

    Varvatos Vex

Varvatos Vex

Click here to see his human form.

Appearances: 3Below | Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans

Voiced by: Nick Offerman

The zealous and battle-hungry commander of Akiridion-5's military force (the Taylon Phalanx), and Aja and Krel's bodyguard. On Earth, he is disguised as an elderly human man who acts as a protagonist along with the royal siblings in 3Below.

  • Alliterative Name: Varvatos Vex.
  • The Atoner: He is the one who allowed General Morando to attack Akiridion-5 by lowering the shields, though he had been promised no one would be hurt. His guilt over this action has led him to protect Aja and Krel with even more zeal than normal.
  • The Big Guy: In his normal form.
  • Blood Knight: If it's not about killing, maiming, or torture, he's not interested. He does, over time, gain an interest in the strategy of chess and becomes very supportive of Aja and Krel's Earth hobbies, even if they aren't for him.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Varvatos Vex is almost always boisterous and loud regarding absolutely everything.
  • Broken Pedestal: He's on the receiving end of this when Aja, Krel, and Zadra discover he was the traitor who lowered the planet's shields, allowing General Morando and his forces to take over the planet.
  • Brought Down to Badass: By his own admission, he's not as strong in his "feeble human form" as he is in his original self, but he's still capable of fairly absurd feats of strength (like stopping a moving car with his bare hands).
  • But Now I Must Go: He returns to Akiridion-5 alongside Aja and Zadra.
  • Catchphrase: "Glorious."
  • Extra Eyes: He has four eyes in his true form, but has a normal pair while in human form.
  • Death Seeker: He speaks often about his hope for an honorable death in combat and meets the potential of dying with glee. It's unclear if he's always been so eager for it or if the loss of his family and his guilt over betraying the royals has just pushed him further towards seeking it.
  • Didn't Think This Through: A usurper known for being murderous offers to let him avenge his family if he just betrays the royals whom he serves. Vex actually believes Morando when he says no one will be hurt in the coup. Guess how well that turns out.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Vex is obsessed with "dying gloriously" for the Royal Family, which would entail this. He attempts to do this in the finale of Part 1, but survives and is taken away by Zeron Alpha. In the Part 2 finale, he risks his life when he shields House Tarron from Morando after the latter merged from Gaylen's Core, and while Varvatos ends up surviving, he has to undergo Akiridion medical treatment before he can recover.
  • Interspecies Romance: With Nancy Domzalski.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: He's heartbroken when he learns that Nancy has started dating his chess pal Phil, but when it seems like they will all be killed he sends both of them messages wishing them to be happy together.
  • Karmic Transformation: In hindsight, this applies when we learn he betrayed the royal family. His earth disguise is being an old man that isn't taken seriously by anyone on Earth. Vex feels the disrespect but has to use his head to think through situations.
  • Large Ham: Everything he says and does is ridiculously over the top and loud.
  • Laughing Mad: His bloody threats are usually punctuated by maniacal laughter. He also tends to laugh when fighting.
  • Mars Needs Women: Develops a crush on Toby's Nana, Nancy Domzalski, whom he refers to as a "silver-haired temptress". Seeing her for the first time even triggers a Fantasy Sequence.
  • No Indoor Voice: He tends to shout most of what he says at the top of his lungs.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Out of bitterness over the King's and Queen's decision to fortify Akiridion-9's defenses in response to the Zeron Brotherhood's attack that killed Vex's family instead of allowing him to pursue the bounty hunters in retaliation, Vex is tempted by Morando's promise of an opportunity to avenge his slain relatives in exchange for helping him take control over their planet.
  • Smart People Play Chess: Varvatos uses it as an outlet for his bloodlust, but does get to make the comment or two on his relative place on the chessboard. Namely, as a sacrificial pawn to save the King and Queen.
  • Scatterbrained Senior: Trying to be a seasoned warrior in an old man's body invokes this image. Detective Scott overrides him saying he's in charge of Aja and Krel because Vex's antics— trying to lift a shop building and later a bench — make him think that Vex is too incompetent to care for them.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The only time he drops his Third-Person Person shtick is when he's at his most somber.
  • Phrase Catcher: "That guy is intense."
  • Third-Person Person: Oddly enough the only one of the race who does it. The only time he doesn't use it is when he wants to be very serious in his words.
  • Will Not Tell a Lie: He insists on maintaining honesty at all times. However, that doesn't stop him from doing so if he feels it is necessary to fulfill his duties.
  • Younger Than They Look: Invoked; he's actually a fairly seasoned warrior but is given the disguise of an old man with back problems.

Appearances: 3Below

The A.I. for the most high-tech ship in the galaxy.

  • Benevolent A.I.: Mother is very protective and helpful to Aja and Krel.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: The OMEN takes control of Mother in the series premiere's climax.
  • Grew Beyond Their Programming: Much like the blanks studying earth culture made her more emotional than she was at the beginning, especially in Part Two.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: She eliminates herself in order to save Aja and Krel's parents. Unfortunately, her sacrifice is rendered inert when they end up sacrificing their life cores to destroy Morando.
  • Team Mom: Mother is caring, sweet, and mindful of everything the family is doing and trying to help them and keep them safe.

  • I Choose to Stay: After Krel decides to remain in Arcadia, Ricky and Lucy decide to stay as well.
  • Mama Bear: In the first instance of Grew Beyond Their Programming, Lucy interrogates Stuart about threatening her "kids".
