Sonic The Hedgehog

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sonic_legacy_1.png
"Heh, do you have any idea who you’re dealing with? If it’s a race you want, it’s a race you’re gonna get!"

Sonic is a free-going spirit with no set path or destination in his life. Like the wind itself, he goes wherever his feet take him.

  • Berserk Button: As with most continuities, harming any of his friends. When he finds out Eggman put Tempest in the Alep, he gets very serious and actually intimidates Eggman before attacking him head-on.
  • Bouncing Battler: At the current point in time, Sonic hasn't learned the Spin Dash or the Homing Attack; his primary form of attack are either kicks or spin jumps à la Sonic 1.
  • Blood Knight: Downplayed. He doesn't go out of his way to seek conflict or hurt people, but there's no doubt that he loves a good fight, showing enthusiasm when confronted with a legion of robots that could very well kill him.
    • In issue 8, when King Nigel is threatening Eggman to surrender or face his sword, Sonic rather enthusiastically agrees to doing both.
    • Issue 10 again. The entire fight with Mecha Sonic Mk.1 is a testament to his love of battle. Mecha Sonic is trying to actively kill him and Sonic just seems to be completely thrilled the whole time.
  • But Now I Must Go: At the end of Issue #5 (and subsequently, the first arc), Sonic heads off on his own in his Tornado to go after Eggman, not wanting to put Tempest in any further danger. He doesn't even leave her a note.
  • Cool Plane: Sonic's plane, the Tornado.
    • Taken a step further in episode 1 of Legacy Uncut. This incarnation of Sonic's plane is a Super Prototype dubbed the "S-20 Tornado", a fighter plane with only 500 models created and only 3 total existing in any serviceable condition, using an experimental engine to reach speeds that most bi-planes struggle to get close to.
    • Taken to dangerous levels when Tails reveals in Issue 9 that Sonic removed the rev limiter at some point, thus eliminating the upper cap on its speed, but risking damage in the process.
  • Competition Freak: He wastes no time in accepting Tempest's challenge to race her on the very principle of it.
  • Disappeared Dad: Episode 1 of Legacy Uncut reveals that his motivation (initially) is this.
  • Expressive Ears: They'll flick frequently when he's irritated with waiting or confronted with an uncomfortable situation, such as being surrounded by water.
  • The Gadfly: He loves getting a rise out of his enemies, which is why he taunts them with such irreverence.
    • His fight with Mecha Sonic deserves special mention, throwing barbs at him the entire time, which only seems to enrage his metal doppelganger.
  • Goal in Life: Upon being asked by Tempest what goals he has in mind, he answers that he doesn't have one. Sonic's only motivation is to go wherever the wind takes him.
    • Legacy Uncut #1 "Worldbound" provides context for his travels. See Disappeared Dad.
  • Golden Super Mode: Issue 10, "Hard Reset" has Sonic assume the usual Super Sonic transformation. Interestingly, it seems to cause him great pain while in the state, crossing it with Deadly Upgrade.
  • Kick Chick: A rare male example. Most of Sonic's attacks that aren't spin jumps are generally comprised of this.
  • Kid Hero: He's only 14 years old in Legacy, slightly younger than his 15 year old video game counterpart.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: In Issue #4, he and Tempest arrive in Scrap Brain Zone and are besieged by robots. When Sonic sees Tempest struggling, he pushes her into an elevator so as to deal with the robots himself and catch up to her later. However, all this wound up doing is getting her captured by Omelette and her robot guards, giving Eggman a hostage to use against him.
  • Shown Their Work: This iteration of Sonic was born on Christmas Island, just like his very first official bio stated.
    • Issue 10 show's Sonic sneezing in a panel moments before encountering Mecha Sonic Mk.1. In old manuals and supplemental material, Sonic would sneeze in the presence of great danger as a form of precognition danger sense.
  • Super-Speed: His bread and butter, natch.
  • Unstoppable Rage: Sonic's entire demeanor changes in Issue 10 when Eggman explains his master plan. and even further when he becomes Super Sonic, able to tear away the Death Egg Robot's hazard armor in a single strike.

     Tempest the Dolphin

Tempest the Dolphin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tempest_bobempest.png
"Show me your real speed in a race, and the loser pays for lunch!"
A dolphin that challenges Sonic in a race when she meets him on South Island. When Eggman's invasion starts, she tags along to find out what's happening.
  • Action Girl: Not afraid to throw down if need be.
  • And I Must Scream: In Issue #5, after being placed in the Alep robot, she apparently was still conscious as the bot was fighting Sonic to the point where it started speaking "Help Me" over and over. Needless to say, it gives Sonic more initiative to break her free.
  • Canon Foreigner: Tempest is an original character created for Legacy and its adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog, a game with minimal characterization and plot, to provide Sonic with someone to talk to.
  • Chest Insignia: Has an hourglass symbol on the back of her top as a reference to her species, the hourglass dolphin.
  • Competition Freak: She's very competitive, a trait she shares with Sonic. Her first interaction with him was challenging him to a race.
  • Distaff Counterpart: Tempest is a female hourglass dolphin who shares a decent amount of traits with the Blue Blur himself. Both are a different shade of blue, have a playful and snarky attitude, are capable in a fight and are the fastest things alive (on land for Sonic and in water for Tempest).
  • Damsel in Distress: Gets captured in Issue #4 (admittedly due to a unintentional action on Sonic's part).
  • Foil: Has a lot in common with Sonic, but also has her fair share of differences to stand out more from him:
    • Tempest has a Goal in Life, while Sonic has none.
    • Both have Super-Speed on their sides, but Sonic's favoured terrain is on land while Tempest is an aquatic creature. Sonic hates water because he can't swim, but Tempest enjoys and exceeds in swimming. Conversely, while she handles herself well enough on land (though not to the same extent as Sonic), her stamina does drain out when away from water for too long.
  • Goal in Life: Her dream is to become a chef, which was kickstarted by her people's refusal to eat anything but fish.
  • Insistent Terminology: She's very quick to correct anybody who calls her a fish.
  • Living Battery: Eggman places her in his Alep robot to power it and sics it on Sonic in Issue #5.
  • Playful Dolphin: Portrayed as such when she meets Sonic, doing so by stealing his wallet and challenging him to a race for it. She also teases him for not being able to swim and takes him on a water slide in Labyrinth Zone despite his protests.
  • The Rival: Becomes one to Sonic which he acknowledges.
  • Super-Speed: When it comes to swimming, Tempest is one of the fastest alive, putting her on equal footing with Sonic's on-foot speed.

     Miles "Tails" Prower

Miles "Tails" Prower

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sonic_legacy_tails.jpg
A young fox prodigy under Uncle Chuck's tutelage who has two tails. Sonic meets him after saving him from Eggman's mechanical antlion that attacks him in Underground Zone.
  • Big Damn Heroes: After Sonic saves him from getting pinced by a mechanical antlion, he returns the favor by flying in and pulling Sonic from the sand pit he got stuck in.
  • Child Prodigy: Said as much by Uncle Chuck, whom Tails works under as an assistant at his tech lab.
  • Cowardly Lion: As shown throughout Escalation, Tails is almost constantly, visibly anxious at having to deal with any of Eggman's threats. Despite his reluctance, he pushes on at Sonic's insistence.
  • Cute Little Fangs: This incarnation of Tails bares his canines when his mouth opens, further emphasising the little fox's adorableness.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Here, his nickname comes from some kids who use it to tease his two tails. Sonic however thinks it's actually a cool nickname that suits him.
  • Fastball Special: At Sonic's direction, the fox pulls off a devastating attack against the Antlion using Sonic as a missile to piledrive a broken pillar into its head. Doubles as a Shout-Out to the POW Move from Sonic Chronicles, the Blue Bomber.
  • Flight: As usual, he can fly with his two tails. He demonstrates it by saving Sonic via pulling him from a sand pit.
  • Grade Skipper: He graduated early according to Uncle Chuck, and he's only 7 years old in this continuity.

Allies

     Uncle Chuck

Uncle Chuck

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chuck_3.PNG
An uncle of Sonic's who runs a tech lab in Mobotropolis.
  • Cool Old Guy: Takes Sonic's sarcasms in stride and helps where he's needed.
  • Embarrassing First Name: His name is Charles, but he prefers everyone calls him "Chuck".
  • Fully-Dressed Cartoon Animal: Unlike Sonic and Chuck's previous incarnations, he's fully clothed.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: He's very good with tech. Sonic goes to visit him in Issue #6 to see if he can fix up a device so he can track Eggman.
  • My Greatest Failure: Mobius Legacy reveals that he was a sponsor for his former colleague Dr. Robotnik, and therefore was partly responsible for the events leading up to the webcomic.
  • Trademark Favourite Food: Just like his nephew, Chuck loves chili dogs.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Over a decade ago, Chuck was a former colleague of Dr. Ivo Robotnik, until they had a falling out.

     Sally Acorn

Sally Acorn

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pic_sonic_legacy_sally_acorn.jpg
One of the residents of Castle Acorn.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: She's much more stoic in this version, not amused by Sonic challenging her warnings not to be rude.
  • Adaptational Modesty: Her original attire in the official media (least up to the post reboot Archie series) usually just consisted of a vest and boots. Here she has a much more formal attire.
  • Adaptational Skill: Much more a of a sword fighter here, using a rapier as her main weapon.
  • Badass Normal: There's no indication or reason to believe she has any additional powers beyond impressive swordsmanship.
  • Pretty Princess Powerhouse: She manages to cut apart some of the Eggrobo's littering her streets while still dressed in full formal wear.
  • Mythology Gag: Bears a passing resemblance to her Fleetway counterpart with the placement of the tufts just behind her cheeks.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Played straight to great effect. Sally is one of the first on the front lines to repel Eggman's siege of Mobotropolis in issue 8, and would have gone after Eggman too if she hadn't been stopped by Chuck.

Antagonists

     Dr. Eggman/Ivo Robotnik

Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ae1fcc69_a604_4870_acee_5c5a04745349.jpeg
"Threaten all you wish, Hedgehog. You’re gambling against the house, without any chips of your own now!"
The main villain of the story who sets his sights on taking over Mobius, starting with South Island.
  • Adaptation Expansion: Issue #1 of Mobius Legacy explores Ivo Robotnik's tenure as scientist before he took on his Eggman persona and the motive behind his robotic creations.
  • Big Bad: Serves as the webcomic's main villain, given it adapts the games' storyline where he too was its overarching villain.
  • Fatal Flaw: In his backstory, his lack of self-awareness. The doctor actually had genuinely good intentions for the original creation of his badniks, intending to use them as a means to cure (or at least, prevent people from getting worse) an incurable disease. However, his inability to understand or consider the potential repercussions or side-effects of his decisions means that he ended up being seen as monstrous for his poorly considered actions. His inability to self-reflect on the matter ultimately led him down the path to becoming Dr. Eggman.
  • Healthcare Motivation: When he used to be a normal doctor, Robotnik was convinced to find the cure for NIDS when he saw young Nicole's current state, no matter what it took. While he points out that what he did was technically not illegal, sending a drone into the Gaia temple to spy on the Chaos Emerald despite being expressly forbidden to do so still landed him in hot water.
  • Mad Scientist: Natch, in fact he admits he wants to capture Sonic and Tempest alive (or intact at least) as he sees them as fine specimens.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: Unlike the more comedic portrayals from the main series, here he foregoes theatrics and tries to bomb Sonic once he lures him into a room. Though the comic is likewise showcasing this as their first meeting in this continuity, so he hasn't developed his obsession with destroying Sonic just yet.
  • Obliviously Evil: Ivo's method of prolonging a child's life was to hook her up to a huge mecha on life support, even naming the machine the badnik without a hint of self-awareness. He's confused and utterly crushed when everyone, including his best friend, is horrified by his actions.
  • Omnidisciplinary Scientist: Aside from robotics, the prequel "Mobius Legacy" shows that he's also well versed in renewable energy sources and medicine, among other things.
  • Orcus on His Throne: He spends most of the starting issues just directing his forces and berating Omelette for any failures. When Sonic proves to be a formidable threat to Eggman, he meets up with him in person so he can lure him into a trap.
  • Squishy Wizard: While he can make some very harmful and deadly bots to fight for him, on his own he's pretty much a normal flesh and blood human. Sonic demonstrates this by spin-dashing him in his keister after finding out that he put Tempest in one of his robots.
    • Averted to a horrifying degree in Issue 10 as he pilots the Death Egg. While physically he might be a normal human, his mech piloting skills prove to completely outclass Sonic to the point of desperation.
  • Trademark Favourite Food: Naturally, he loves to eat egg sandwiches for lunch.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: At the end of the first arc, he doesn't stick around to see Sonic and his Alep robot fight, just citing he has other things to do and assumes the robot will kill Sonic.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: 11 years before the events of Sonic Legacy, Dr. Ivo Robotnik was an idealistic man of science who used his intellect to help people in need, namely those suffering from illnesses and conditions. Unfortunately, his method of curing them was to seal and put them on life support in walking machines, with Nicole being his first victim. Ivo was devastated to learn that nobody approved of what he created, and he was barred from ever working with his colleagues again. By the end of Issue #1 of Mobius Legacy, he sets his mass production of Badniks into action to prove his detractors wrong.
  • Who Names Their Kid "Dude"?: Sonic mocks him when he finally learns his name and whole egg theme naming he has going.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Fully aware that his strongest enemies are a couple of young teenagers, and still willing to trap one of them in a Humongous Mecha so he can kill the other with it.

     Omelette

Omelette

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/87aaf887_1871_4fc1_8396_e6313e77ea4b.png
"I’m not a kid! I’m the great Omelette, youthful genius!"
Eggman's "daughter" and main assistant.
  • Daddy's Little Villain: Sees herself as Eggman's daughter and does her best to please him.
  • Mythology Gag: She's a character that was made from a fan who took Eggman in the Egg Spider boss fight from Sonic Mania (he was upside down during it) and designed her look based off of that which caught on well with the Sonic fans. Here, she's one of the central characters of the comic. Being a Ridiculously Human Robot acting as Robotnik's child is also similar to Robotnik Jr. from Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.
  • Ridiculously Human Robot: Unlike most of Eggman's robots, she's the most human looking of his bunch.
  • Robotic Reveal: Said as such by Eggman in Issue #4 that she's a robot, hence why she always refers to him as "papa".
  • Scary Shiny Glasses: As with Eggman, she has her own shades and more often than not will flash these.
  • Starter Villain: The first villain faced in the story and beaten pretty easily.

Others

     Nicole

Nicole

Robotnik: Hello there, Nicole. My name is Ivo. Tell me, what would you like to do?
Nicole: I wanna go outside and play but I can't. I get sick every time...
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nicole.PNG
"Will you be there when I wake up?"
A young lynx suffering from NIDS, a seemingly-incurable disease. She attracts the attention of Dr. Ivo Robotnik, who seeks to prevent the disease by any means necessary.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: In the Archie comics, Nicole is an AI created by Dr. Ellidy, who transferred his dying daughter's consciousness over to her. This incarnation of Nicole is a young girl of flesh and blood, and her father looks different from his Archie counterpart.
  • Delicate and Sickly: Nicole is a young girl contracted with NIDS, the same disease that afflicted Maria Robotnik. She looks perpetually tired and doesn't have the strength to go outside and play, barely being able to sit up straight.
  • Fish out of Temporal Water: When Tails ends up waking her up, she has no idea what has transpired over the last few years and is unaware of Ivo Robotnik’s change into the villainous Dr.Eggman.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Even though she started life as a flesh and blood Mobian, her physical body is now dead and lives on as an AI.
  • Living Battery: Served as the first volunteer for Robotnik's Badnik project, in fact.
  • Man in the Machine: Her fate was to be stuffed inside a mecha on life support, barely sentient the whole time.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Had Nicole not consented to getting treatment for her condition, Dr. Eggman's Badniks would not have become a reality.
  • Walking Spoiler: Her role as Eggman's first Badnik sets the main story of Sonic Legacy into motion.

     Tekno

Tekno

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pic_sonic_legacy_tenko.jpg
A well known Mobium researcher.
  • The Cameo: She shows up in Issue 7, being the client that commissioned Chuck to get the Mobium from the local mine. Tails is revealed to be a major fan of her’s.

     Rouge Arsène

Rouge, The White Phantom

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rouge_arsene.png
The master thief herself.

  • Adaptational Modesty: Her suit doesn't feature an exposed back or a Cleavage Window, though she's also much younger than in canon when we first see her, so this may not stick.
  • Adaptational Nationality: Implied by her slight French accent which she didn't have in canon, further supported by her last name being French in origin (though so is her first name).
  • Berserk Button: When Captain Tower insinuates that Rouge got to where she was in the Jade Syndicate through nepotism, she blows up at him in an instant.
    • Ditto for implying she's "hit her peak."
  • Broken Ace: Despite her otherworldly skill as a thief, she slowed down considerably after an incident in which she ran away in fear after seeing her partner get held at gunpoint and executed in a botched robbery. The incident seems to have left her traumatized and seeking a new purpose in life.
  • Glory Seeker: As she grew up, her motivation as an orphan included wealth, but as time went on, it became more about being able to pull off ridiculous thefts than getting rich in any sense.
  • Meaningful Name: Her last name of Arsène deliberately references the gentleman master thief of the same name, Arsène Lupin.
  • Motive Decay: Ever since the botched heist that ended in her partner’s death, she starts deliberately slacking in her once-prestigious career as a master thief. While it doesn't resolve her past trauma, Tower is quick to pick up on Rouge's desires of notoriety disguised as avarice, offering a job at G.U.N. as a premiere infiltration agent.
  • Origins Episode: Rouge makes her official debut into the Legacy-verse in episode 2 of Legacy Uncut, "You Can't Go Home."
  • Parental Substitute: Episode 2 of Legacy Uncut "You Can't Go Home" shows us a shadowed-out human man taking her in after she was orphaned. Who this man is exactly isn't explained, but it's most likely he was her adoptive father.
  • Phantom Thief: She was so good at her profession, that the distinct lack of traces or evidence of her crimes were directly attributed to her, with the only known photo of her in mask, contained within a top secret G.U.N. file.
  • Rummage Sale Reject: Her iconic catsuit is replaced with a looser-fitting sneaking suit that seems to have been hand-crafted. Given that this is earlier in the timeline by about 3 years, this is justified in-universe.
  • Stepford Snarker: She relentlessly jabs at Captain Tower every chance she gets, but it becomes evident a few minutes into the interrogation that she's clearly affected way more than she lets on.
  • The Syndicate: A once-high ranking member of the "Jade Syndicate", which seems to be an international crime group centered around theft and larceny. The organization is big enough to have GUN hunting them down to little success.

     Aleena The Hedgehog

Aleena

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aleena.png
Aleena, circa 1986
Sonic's mother, currently living on their home of Christmas Island.
  • Berserk Button: Apparently really does not like receiving help if she doesn't need it.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Aleena's intention in Worldbound was to get Sonic out of his funk. She inadvertently sent her son on the path to becoming a world-renowned hero.
  • Will They or Won't They?: Seemed to embody this with Yaeger for three years before officially tying the knot.

     Yaeger The Hedgehog

Yaeger

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yaeger.png
"The Ace of Aces", Sonic's father.
  • Ace Pilot: Formerly the flight instructor at the Mobotropolis Academy. If the Legacy-verse follows real-world rank structuring, then Yaeger would have to have been a Captain or Major at the very least, which itself is no easy feat.
  • Ambiguously Absent Parent: The first episode of Legacy Uncut, "Worldbound" has Aleena state that he's been missing for eight months. As of issue 6, when Sonic asks why Chuck hasn't been returning Aleena's calls, no mention of Yaeger is made. It stands to reason he's still missing, which would make it about five and a half years.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: So far, the only on-screen appearance he's had is within the quasi-canon Debug Mode strip "Tubular".
  • Embarrassing Nickname: His friends and trainees took to calling him "The Ace of Aces" in regard to his amazing skills as a pilot. He doesn't like it.
  • Improbable Piloting Skills: According to Jonas, Yaeger was in a league of his own when it came to piloting aircraft.
  • Meaningful Name: Supposedly, to real-world legendary ace Chuck Yaeger, famous for being the first pilot to break the sound barrier, which itself is the first half of a long running meta brick joke concerning Uncle Chuck.
