What kind of mineral only spawns with a dungeon boss. Do I have to mine in a dragon's lair next?

Class: Overgeared God, Pagma's Successor, Warrior (former)

A young adult male who serves as the protagonist of the series. Playing as his Satisfy game avatar, Grid (can also interpreted as Greed), Youngwoo starts the story as a weak Warrior player getting completely smacked around by Earl Ashur at the end of a quest that was forced unto him despite being way above his character level. Rather than risk losing the quest reward upon his inevitable defeat, Grid uses it on himself, which results in him becoming one of the hidden legendary classes within the game: Pagma's Successor.

After many trials, humiliations, and set-backs, he becomes known as "God Grid;" taking the virtual game world by storm once he starts defeating the top rankers of the game in seconds. Grid goes about this with the help of the rare items he finds along with the top-notch items he forges for himself. Hence the term, Overgeared.

  • 100% Heroism Rating:
    • Some Blacksmith NPCs towards Grid. This is due to two hidden effects provided by his Blacksmith’s Craftsmanship Skill being at Master level, and by just being the Pagma's Successor class.
      • The mastery of the Blacksmith’s Craftsmanship Skill makes all blacksmith NPCs who are Intermediate level act friendly towards Grid.
      • Being Pagma's Successor makes blacksmith NPCs at the Advanced level recognize and worship Grid.
    • His affinity with the residents of Winston Village maxes out after he completes the "Apostle of Justice" quest to rescue Huroi from the Winston Castle dungeon. It's said that Winston residents will go about showing Grid the best hospitality, and will even share things with him. It becomes even moreso when he's named a hero of Winston Village for helping dispose of the villainous Mero Company.
  • 0% Approval Rating: Several examples of people that Grid pissed off.
    • As a result of choosing to take [Pagma's Lost Book] for himself, Grid lost all affinity with Earl Ashur and the people of Patrian (a starter city within the Eternal Kingdom) to the point of no longer being allowed within the city. The guards would be set to kill Grid on sight if he was to show his face there. The game even forced Grid to choose a new respawn location away from Patrian as a result of Earl Ashur killing him.
    • He's this to the Yatan Church. Grid pisses off the followers of the Yatan Church after his starting run-in with them at the Yatan Temple where they held Irene captive. He then continues to have battles with the Yatan Church's followers throughout the series to the point that Grid ends up being their biggest enemy.
  • Ability Mixing: During the trip to Kesan Canyon to search for Pagma's swordsmanship, Grid catches on to the Satisfy game mechanic of being able to combine certain Skills to form new and more powerful fused Skills.
    • While fighting a Canyon Spider of Kesan Canyon, Grid creates a new fusion skill by combining Unbreakable Justice with Wind Blast. The result is the fused Wind of Justice Skill. Grid gains +10 Intelligence for creating Wind of Justice.
  • Above the Influence: In the aftermath of the Satisfy Olympic Games, Yura and Jishuka both get shit-faced drunk and throw themselves at him. Not wanting to start a scandal, and two drunk women being too much for him, he takes them home and has his mother and sister look after them while he sleeps on the couch.
  • Accidental Pervert: He once accidentally gets an eyeful of what's up Yura's and Jishuka's skirts at the same time, while the two ladies are visiting his home. It Makes Sense in Context. His parents pretended not to notice, but his younger sister was not amused.
  • Achievements in Ignorance: He is a horrible player in Satisfy, but precisely because of that, he has stumbled unto many impressive achievements, including his marriage to the NPC Irene Steim, and has made himself and his guild members real powerhouses that few can contend with.
  • Achilles' Heel:
    • Grid considers the lack of having the Weapons Mastery or Armor Mastery passive Skill to be this as they're passives that Pagma's Successor doesn't have while most other players with combat related classes do; meaning that unlike Grid, they have passives for increased performance with weapons or armor. Though the damage increasing passive he gets from Pagma's Sword Dance does eventually make up for this.
    • One of biggest problems Grid had early on as Pagma's Successor was his lack of mana due to not being able to put points into Intelligence since he needed the other stats increased to help with blacksmithing. Thus, he runs out of mana quickly after using just a couple skills. This especially comes into play when he first obtains the Pagma's Sword Dance Skill as he only had around 500 mana at the time, yet said Skill came with sword techniques that cost well over 500 mana to use (1,800 mana just to use the Transcend sword technique). This was one of the reasons that Grid chose to take the Unique-rated [Malacus' Cloak] as his reward following the Malacus raid, because the +200 Intelligence it provided greatly made up for the low Intelligence stat that he had early on.
  • Adaptation Dye-Job: The novel states he has black hair. The manwha shows him with brown.
  • Adventure Duo: With Huroi. Due to the affect of Apostle of Justice’s Partner class, Huroi's stats rise by 20% when he's fighting alongside the one classified as the "Apostle of Justice," which Grid has the Title for.
  • Amplifier Artifact: Grid looted the [Red Lightning Summoning Bead] off the Frostlight Orc Chief. Using the bead, Grid can summon down a red lightning bolt from the sky to enhance his current weapon for a brief time; increasing said weapon's Attack Power and providing it the electrical attribute. However, it takes 1 minute to summon down the lightning bolt, and the user's health drops by 10% after summoning the bolt.
  • Anti-Armor: Grid using the [Dainsleif (Reproduction)] greatsword is basically this as no matter how strong the armor is that the enemy is using, his sword swings will always do 10% additional damage based on the number of the enemy's Defense stat.
  • Anti-Debuff: One of the effects of Grid's 'One who Became a Legend’ title is that abnormal effects, such as being statused or cursed, don't have much of an affect on him. The Composure stat that he acquired after becoming Pagma's Successor also helps counter abnormal effects.
  • Area of Effect: Several of Grid's skills perform this.
    • The Wind Blast and Wind of Justice item equip skills from his [Ideal Dagger] cast out blasts of wind that can damage and knock back enemies in the direction Grid is aiming said dagger towards.
    • When Grid activates the Wave technique of his Pagma's Sword Dance Skill, he unleashes a wave of sword strikes on all enemies within 1 meter of himself that deals 155% increased damage based on his Attack Power.
  • The Apprentice: Usually ends up in this role when he's working for a more experienced NPC.
    • For a brief time, he was this towards the Bairan Village blacksmith, Smith, in order to learn how to make the [Jaffa Arrow].
    • Starts out as such for Khan mentoring him when he deems Grid his successor. Khan becomes more of Grid's smithing supporter once Grid is developed. Though Khan still provides helpful advice whenever Grid needs it.
  • Armor-Piercing Attack: In the battle against the 5 NPC Winston criminals at Khan's smithy, Grid fights with a [Special Jaffa Arrow] to try to take advantage of its armor-piercing effect to deal extra damage. He actually manages to kill the criminal, Johnson, in one hit thanks to the armor-piercing effect activating. The same happens to the criminal, Neil, shortly after.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: After becoming Pagma's Successor, Grid gains the Item Understanding skill, which allows him to go about understanding the materials and principles of items by using, disassembling, or repairing them. The higher the percentage of understanding the item, the better that Grid handles it. 100% understanding allows for Grid to make the item himself.
  • Badass Boast: "I will defeat Huert (the 13th strongest player in the world) in 30 seconds!" Everyone laughs at him until the PVP event, where they face off and he defeats Huert in in five.
  • Basement-Dweller: He basically started off as this in real life being poor, jobless, and in debt to the point that he has to live with his parents. Not so much once he becomes a Satisfy celebrity, and moves out.
  • Beat Them at Their Own Game: When he sees one of the US players deliberately tear the South Korean flag in a bit of gloating, he decides to skip over the Blacksmithing event, where he excels, so he can use his two remaining event tickets in the PVP and the pet marathon, where the US excels, so he can utterly humiliate them, and the press corp that was hyping up the US team.
  • Beneath the Mask: Thanks to the [Frostlight Orc Chief's Helmet] covering his face, said helmet has the disguise effect to hide the user's game ID from others. Thus, people don't know that it's Grid when he's wearing the helmet.
  • BFS: Weapons that Grid tends to fight with are large greatswords.
    • When Grid was originally leveling up as a Warrior, his primary weapon was [Mamon’s Greatsword], which is a sword with a water-attribute.
    • Grid invents [Failure], a large shark-themed greatsword made of blue orichalcum. He's eventually able to craft [Failure] for himself once he's obtained enough materials, and often uses it as one of his primary weapons.
    • One of the two treasure's of Khan's smithy is a Unique-rated [Dainsleif (Reproduction)] greatsword, which after convincing Khan to let him borrow it, Grid uses it to kill off the 3 remaining Winston outlaws that were trying to take the smithy away from Khan. Grid is then given a quest from Khan to prove that he's Pagma's Successor in order to obtain ownership of [Dainsleif (Reproduction)], which Grid eventually does show off one of Pagma's swordsmanship techniques he learned to Khan. Overall, [Dainsleif (Reproduction)] becomes a greatsword that Grid often uses as one of his weapons.
      • When Grid is using [Dainsleif (Reproduction)], his Attack Speed is lowered by 8% given that it's a greatsword. However, attacks with [Dainsleif (Reproduction)] deals additional damage equal to 10% of the target's Defense stat, deals more damage the more surrounding enemies there are, and provides the user with the Golden Flash equip Skill.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Do not mess with his little sister, Shin Seihee. He will mess you up good, come hell or high water.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Grid tends to do this a lot.
    • The moment Khan's on the verge of losing everything to the Mero Company, Grid appears, and disposes of the 5 Winston Outlaws that were trying to force Khan to give up ownership of his smithy.
    • The moment it looked like a captured Regas was going to die during the Malacus raid, Grid uses Restrict to interrupt Malacus' killing spell, and force him to back away long enough for Regas to escape.
  • Big First Choice: Grid's decision to read [Pagma's Lost Book] out of spite against Earl Ashur ended up beginning his journey of turning his whole life around into becoming the Legendary Blacksmith.
  • Blow You Away: The Unique-rated [Ideal Dagger] provides him with wind skills.
    • When Grid has the [Ideal Dagger] equipped, he's provided the Wind Blast Skill. Grid can fire out a blade-like blast of wind from the [Ideal Dagger] that knocks back and damages enemies. The wind attack's strength is based on 60% of the user's Attack Power.
    • Thanks to Grid combining the Unbreakable Justice Skill with the Wind Blast Skill, Grid creates the Wind of Justice Skill, which is a more powerful version of Wind Blast that can only be used when he has the [Ideal Dagger] equipped. The Wind of Justice Skill deals 320% damage based on the user's Attack Power, has a reach of at least 6 meters, and also has a 2 meter area-of-effect.
  • Born Unlucky: His life was full of misfortune, up to and including his experiences in Satisfy. To wit, he's been bullied, laughed at, his first school field trip involved getting mugged and kidnapped, and he started the story with a 10 billion won debt through circumstances beyond his control.
  • Bound and Gagged: Grid ended up in this position when the Mero Company arrested him and threw him within the dungeon of Winston Castle. The mouth gag was because the guards felt the need to shut him up since Grid was ranting and swearing at them in anger for being wrongfully arrested. He ended up being rescued by Euphemina since she got a quest from Rabbit to help him escape.
  • Bully Hunter: Due to his own experiences with bullying, he hates bullies with undying passion, and if he sees anyone being bullied, he will go to war on the bullies until they're completely broken or dead.
  • Cast from Stamina: In order for Grid to use the Kill technique of his Pagma's Sword Dance Skill, he has to consume 50% of his stamina bar.
  • The Chains of Commanding: When the Sahara Empire sends its own envoy, Mercedes, the #1 knight in the nation, to his throne with a bunch of ridiculous demands, the least of which is a "tribute" of 72% of Overgeared Kingdom's GDP and that Grid himself kneel in obedience, Grid strongly considers beating the ever loving shit out of her, but for the sake of his people complies, since in a direct conflict the empire would rofl-stomp him. As soon as she's out of the room and on her way, he glares at her departing back with bloodshot eyes swearing vengeance.
  • Character Development: He becomes less of a dick as the series progresses, as well as obtaining leadership qualities once he becomes a commanding presence within the game that many players and NPCS choose to follow behind. Numerous other characters (and the readers) comment that Grid is a vastly different character in the late chapters compared to the early chapters, and it really starts to show when he joins up with the players of Tzedakah Guild, and then when it's restructured into his own Overgeared guild.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Invoked. Satisfy frequently forces him into quests with heroic goals.
  • Class Change Level Reset: At the start of the series, Grid is shown to have made his way up to being a Level 73 Warrior. By reading [Pagma's Lost Book], his class is changed to Pagma's Successor (a legendary blacksmith production hidden class), and his level is reset back down to Level 1.
    • Moments after becoming Pagma's Successor and resetting back down to Level 1, Grid ends up failing two high-ranked quests where the punishment was two level drops. The oddity is that the punishment works at Level 1, and drops Grid down into the negative level range down to Level -3. This is the result of a hidden game mechanic where level reduction due to quest failure will be enforced regardless of level, even on beginner players. Since beginner players don't normally get quests that provide level-drop punishments when they fail quests, this mechanic was supposed to stay hidden. In the end, this turned out to be a good thing for Grid as he got to keep the 10 stat point rewards for each level-up after leveling up back into the positive level range. Thus, he has 40 more stat-points at Level 1 than a new player would normally have.
    • Grid returns back up to positive Level 1 after completing Smith's novice blacksmithing quests in Bairan Village, which Grid comes to view as his true starting point.
  • Clothes Make the Superman: A large amount of Grid's strength comes from his equipment.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Lee Cheolho and his assistant, Nahee, deem Grid obtaining the Pagma's Successor class to be this. Through a combination of unintentionally having all the Patrian requirements to get the quest from Earl Ashur after spending a year building up reputation with the city, to spending months searching and dying through areas that greatly outleveled his Level 73 Warrior searching for the North End Cave, and even being greedy enough to take the legendary class change book for himself, it was all one massive coincidence that Grid stumbled into becoming Pagma's Successor.
  • Cool, but Inefficient: When he gets to smithing, he focuses on the quality of the goods he crafts more than their quantity. As such, he can spend two hours crafting a pitchfork, which should take a few minutes, but that pitchfork will be a [Unique] level item that can magically make a Thirsty Desert into arable land.
  • Critical Encumbrance Failure: Grid has a rough time with this early on after his class and level reset when he became Pagma's Successor. He ended up having to carry around high-level gear that put him away over the inventory weight limit; causing Grid to walk around real slowly. This of course led to some misunderstandings with Doran and Smith thinking that his slow walking meant something else.
  • Critical Hit: When Grid has any type of sword equipped, he has a 10% increased Critical Hit Rate passive when his Pagma's Sword Dance Skill remains deactivated.
  • Critical Status Buff: His 'Apostle of Justice' Title itself is a passive Skill. Whenever his health drops below 10%, there's a chance for this passive to activate. This Title passive activating increases all his stats by 30% for a brief time.
  • Damage Reduction: Several cases.
    • After becoming Pagma's Successor, Grid obtains the Indomitable stat, which has a chance of invalidating a portion of incoming damage. The lower the health, the higher the probability.
    • When Grid has the Unique-rated [Frostlight Orc Chief's Helmet] equipped, there's a 20% chance for him to not be struck by a critical blow whenever he's attacked.
    • When Grid has the Epic-rated [Khan's Masterpiece] armor equipped, he's provided an additional 20% damage reduction from physical attacks.
  • Dance Battler: As part of the Pagma's Successor Class Quest that Khan provided him to go out and discover Pagma's swordsmanship, Grid eventually learns the Pagma's Sword Dance Skill upon looking at the cliff mural showing Pagma's swordsmanship within a Kesan Canyon cave hidden behind the Loran Falls waterfall. Pagma's Sword Dance applies to any sword-like weapon from small daggers to the largest of greatswords.
    • When Grid doesn't have the Pagma's Sword Dance Skill active, it acts as a Passive Skill for Grid by increasing Physical Attack by 20% and Critical Hit Rate by 10% as long as he has a sword-like weapon equipped.
    • When Grid activates the Pagma's Sword Dance Skill, it allows him to use the Wave, Restraint, Link, Kill, and Transcend sword techniques. However, the benefits provided from the passive are turned off while Pagma's Sword Dance is active. It costs just 20 mana to activate Pagma's Sword Dance, but upon deactivating the dance, it takes 10 seconds to cooldown.
      • Wave - Grid unleashes a violent sword dance like a high wave. It deals 155% damage from the user's Attack Power on all enemies within 1 meter, as well as reduces their speed. Necessary Drawbacks: Any type of sword must be equipped, costs 350 mana, and has a 2 minute cooldown.
      • Restraint - Grid launches a restrained and understated sword dance that overwhelms the surroundings of the user to the point of stunning the enemy for 3 seconds. Necessary Drawbacks: It doesn't work on undead, any type of sword must be equipped, costs 300 mana, and has a 5 minute cooldown.
      • Link - Grid performs dazzling sword dance that is like the wings of a butterfly. It deals 500% damage from the user's Attack Power on a single target. Necessary Drawbacks: Any type of sword must be equipped, costs 350 mana, and has a 1 minute 40 second cooldown.
      • Kill - Grid performs a killing sword that expresses hatred. It deals 1500% damage from the user's Attack Power on a single target. Necessary Drawbacks: Any type of sword must be equipped, costs 1,200 mana, consumes 50% of the user's Stamina, and has a 8 minute 20 second cooldown.
      • Transcend - Grid performs a sword dance that transcends imagination. For 30 seconds, the user's Attack Power is doubled, and default attacks become ranged attacks. Necessary Drawbacks: Any type of sword must be equipped, costs 1,800 mana, and has a 50 minute cooldown.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Starts off really poor, unhealthy, and living with his parents despite being an adult. He was a complete nobody during his school days having no skills or intelligence to help him stand out, which resulted in his fellow classmates viewing him as a total loser. Also is in massive money debt (at least 10 million won) having spent it on a virtual game capsule in order to play Satisfy. His only means of real world work to pay off said debt is taking on extremely low-wage construction work offered by the office of labor, which provides him barely enough money to just get by for the day. And even then, there's times where he wouldn't be able to do any work as he's usually having to fight the other poor people trying to find work over who gets to take on the labor jobs being offered. Granted, a lot of his suffering is self-inflicted early on, but he eventually turns his life around for the better once he starts to take life more seriously, and makes a name for himself within Satisfy as Pagma's Successor.
  • Determinator: If Grid wants something, he will usually stop at nothing to get it done.
    • In-game, Grid obtains the Persistence stat due to his nature of not giving up while he was performing Smith's quest to chop firewood. He kept on chopping despite how tired it made him. Having the Persistence stat means that it will take longer for Grid to tire out the higher the Persistence stat rises, and his Indomitable stat goes up 1 every time the Persistence stat goes up 10. In addition, Persistence increases the amount of weight that Grid can hold, and lowers the effect of feeling hungry.
    • Part of the reason he was able to become Pagma's Successor is because he was so determined to make his way through dangerous areas of Level 200 monsters despite only being Warrior in the Level 70 range in search of the North End Cave that housed Pagma's book. Even dying several times didn't stop his search, which dropped him from Level 79 to 73.
    • Upon realizing that his family's been hit with a massive debt of 800 million won, Grid makes it clear that he will be the one who supports his parents and sister from here on out. This was after he made his first huge payday in Satisfy when he made up to 234,000 gold thanks mostly to selling the [Sword of Self-Trancendence] to the Winston Administrator. Overall, Grid becomes a lot more determined to take care of his family, which carries over to the in-game family that he starts with Irene.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: His class, Pagma's Successor, has a lot of hidden pitfalls and difficulties, but because Grid worked his ass off, he's become one of, if not the most powerful player in the game.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Very much the case when Grid first met the famous British global-singer, Laella, during the Malacus raid. He was so distracted by her beauty and large breasts that he forgot about the raid they were currently in the middle of until Jishuka called for his attention again.
  • Doting Parent: He treasures his son, Lord, and gives him the best in life whenever possible, including the best discipline.
  • Do You Want to Haggle?: Grid usually attempts this with NPCs to get better deals.
    • This actually failed hard for him when he was originally stuck in Bairan Village as a low Level -3 player as he only had 3 gold and 11 silver to work with, yet it cost as much as 10 gold to hire carriage transportation back to the novice area, Winston Village. Grid was only able to haggle his way down to 8 gold and 90 silver. Thus, he had to find a way to get money to get out of Bairan Village.
  • Draw Aggro: Grid tends to perform the role of the group's damage-dealing tanker to take the enemy off his friends/allies.
  • Elemental Weapon: The Epic-rated [Mamon’s Greatsword] was Grid's main weapon when he was originally a Level 73 Warrior. Due to the connection the sword has with Mamon of Lake Pamian, the sword has a strong water aura that makes all critical strikes also deal water damage.
  • The Engineer: As long as he has a repair tool, such as a hammer, Grid can use his Legendary Blacksmith’s Repair Skill to fix gear durability.
  • Enlightened Self-Interest: While he does move on behalf of heroic goals, he always keeps his own self-interest at the front of his thoughts.
  • Evil Mask: Grid looted the Unique-rated [Frostlight Orc Chief's Helmet] off said Chief, which Grid goes on to using a lot early on. The mask is said to be made from the skull of a snowy ogre and has a terrible appearance. The mask's left horn in particular has a very threatening appearance to the point that just wearing this helmet can cause fear in the wearer's opponents. Grid wearing the mask reduces the chance for him to suffer critical blows by 20%, increased health by 10%, and has a chance to cast fear on the target.
  • Face of a Thug: Grid early on tends to give off a thuggish looking face when he's smiling or laughing, which causes those around him to become scared of him, and even gets to a point where he makes children cry. He actually thinks at one point that it would be best to get plastic surgery once he gets out of debt. Though that goes away once he's turned his life around.
  • Face Your Fears: Grid grew fearful of the Eternal Kingdom's Kesan Canyon due to dying many times within it to its dangerous creatures when he was trying to go about completing Earl Ashur's quest within it before the start of the series. Him needing to go back to Kesan Canyon to find the cliff location showing Pagma's swordsmanship plays on his need of having to overcome the fearsome monsters, such as the Canyon Spiders, that gave him such a rough time in the past. He gets over his fear of spiders after successfully killing the first Canyon Spider he ran into.
  • Fighter, Mage, Thief: Grid was the basic Warrior class before his class was switched to Pagma's Successor.
  • Finishing Move: When Grid activates the Kill technique of his Pagma's Sword Dance Skill, it has the power and drawbacks to act as a finisher. It's a sword strike that deals a devestating 1500% damage based on Grid's Attack Power to a single target, but it requires Grid to use 50% of his remaining stamina, and costs 1,200 mana.
  • The First Cut Is the Deepest: When he was cruelly played by the girl he's had a crush on, for years, he was devastated, and only trusted female NPC, like Irene, for months, real-time.
  • Fragile Speedster: While he's a lot more durable than this normally calls for, Grid fighting style with the [Ideal Dagger] equipped plays on this; especially early on when Grid doesn't have any armor yet. Said dagger also provides Grid with the Quick Movements equip skill, which for 1 minute, Agility is doubled, and Evasion Rate is increased by 30%.
  • Giver of Lame Names: His naming sense is horrible. Naming his guild "Overgeared Guild" is the least cringeworthy example.
  • Goal in Life: His goal early on mostly revolved around getting out of debt, become arrogantly rich, and win over his highschool crush, Ahyoung. However, he resolved to take life more seriously after Ahyoung turned out to be a complete bitch, and his goals became a lot more grand and respectable.
  • The Good King: He rules his territory with a firm, but gentle hand, keeps his policies fair and seeks the best interests of his people as a whole at all times. Of course, he is mostly motivated by the fact that making his territory prosperous makes him a great deal of money, but their happiness is a priority.
  • Good Old Fisticuffs: When Grid's given the opportunity to get back at his bullies, Junho, Giwan and Chansun, as the 3 of them remain trapped in the webbings of a Kesan Canyon spider cave, Grid proceeds to beat them up using just his fists.
  • Got Volunteered: Several examples.
    • Due to Huroi sharing crucial quest info with Grid regarding the Mero Company, the game decided to substitute in Grid to be the "Apostle of Justice" that rescues Huroi from the company's dungeon. Originally, it was supposed to be an NPC with the "Apostle of Justice" title that rescues Huroi.
    • In the first yearly Satisfy world Olympics, the South Korean Government appointed both him and Yura to be their representatives, since South Korea doesn't have that many players despite S.A. being a Korean company. When he sees Yura being bullied in the target-practice event, he throws his Beneath Notice policy out the window and pulls a Big Damn Heroes for her, winning the gold medal in the event.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Suffers from this hard early on. Due to his rough life starting out, Grid tends to get jealous of how players around him, like Yura and Katz, are doing so much better than him. This really starts to die down once he gets more situated into his Pagma's Successor class. He's also quite envious of people's good looks due to how rough Grid looked early on.
  • Happily Married: His marriage to Irene Steim is a happy one, and they both dote on each other.
  • Has a Type: There's definitely a type of woman that Grid tends to appreciate more than others.
    • He appears to prefer grown women who, at the very least, have moderate sized breasts. Thus, he's turned off by Euphemina given her childish figure.
    • The first time he ever saw Jishuka, he noticed that she has everything he ever dreamed of when it comes to his desired ideal girl: tanned skin, red and plump lips, long and curved eyes, and a big chest.
  • Heroic BSoD: He's left in a state of depression after realizing that his Legendary-rated [Perfect Divine Shield] had been stolen away by a Yatan Church supporter. The depression is so much that he even claims that he might as well just commit suicide. He gets out of it after running into Regas again in Winston Village, who because of his Nice Guy persona agrees to just drop whatever he's currently doing and help him search for the stolen shield.
  • Heroic Neutral: He works primarily on behalf of his friends and family, or his own profit, but otherwise prefers to be left alone. Should he encounter someone brutalizing the innocent, he will rush in to help, if he's able.
  • Hint System: The game tends to provide Grid helpful hints when he has full understanding of the items he uses. Like when he's chopping wood for Smith's quest using [Smith’s Old Axe], the game provides a line on the wood for where Grid has to cut to make proper pieces of firewood since he has full 100% understanding of said item after appraing it with the Legendary Blacksmith’s Appraisal skill. Another is 100% understanding of a pickaxe, which will allow Grid to see red dots on certain walls, such as mine caves, to know where to mine for ore.
  • Hope Spot: Grid starts to believe that he can actually pull off the S-rank quest to save Irene in the Yatan Temple after witnessing Doran easily dispose of the Yatan followers initially attacking the two of them. Thus, the Level 1 Grid follows behind Doran sucking-up to the latter hoping that Doran will finish the quest for him. Grid ends up dying, but his actions do allow for Doran to eventually succeed in saving Irene.
  • Hyper-Awareness: After becoming Pagma's Successor, Grid obtains the Insight stat, which allows Grid to possibly predict incoming attacks.
  • Idiot Hero: Downplayed. He's a moron. Fortunately, he knows he's a moron, so he can still make wise decisions, and when he's in doubt, seeks out advice from experts.
  • Improbable Use of a Weapon: Grid kept one of his crafted Epic-rated [Special Jaffa Arrows] for himself. He uses it like a dagger in a fight with the 5 criminals (Johnson, Um, Praga, Neil and Veil) who were trying to make Khan give up his smithy to the Mero Company.
  • In-Series Nickname: Early on when Grid was an unknown, people noticed the high quality level 60ish gear that he was forging being sold by Khan at the Winston smithy, which his items became known as the "Unknown Craftsman Series" that had better effects then other gear around said level. Not knowing that it's Grid who's been making them, the result was Grid gaining a reputation as the "Unknown Craftsman" that had many people interested in buying his items whenever they stopped by the Winston smithy.
  • Instant Expert: As a result of becoming Pagma's Successor:
    • Grid already starts off at the highest Master level in the Blacksmith Craftsmanship Skill; meaning that he doesn't have to work to level the skill up. This allows Grid to learn any blacksmith production method, and make any item up to possibly the Unique-rating so long as he has the required materials for it. This is quite a big deal as at the start of the series when Grid's made a Master of the skill, the highest level normal blacksmith player at the time had only just recently reached the Intermediate level.
    • Grid doesn't have to deal with item or tool restrictions; meaning that he can equip any weapon or armor, or use any tool, no matter the stat or level requirements. However, he has two issues to deal with:
      • One issue is that when Grid's wearing items that he doesn't have full understanding of while under the stats and level, the items are nerfed. However, the nerf weakens the closer Grid gets to understanding the item, or when he finally has the proper equip requirements.
      • Another issue is that if Grid's wearing items that he crafted, himself, that are still below the proper equip requirements, then such items are nerfed despite having full understanding of the item.
  • Item Crafting: Given that Grid's a blacksmith, this is a given as he goes about forging items for himself and his allies. Grid can even come up with his own item methods using the Legendary Blacksmith’s Creation Skill. Some noteworthy items he forged that push the story forward include the following:
    • When Grid was stuck to Bairan Village, a noteworthy item he learned to make for money was the [Jaffa Arrow]. Using the Legendary Blacksmith’s Appraisal Skill only got him to 89% understanding, so he had to be taught how to make the arrow from Smith to fill in the remaining 11% in order for Grid to make arrows on his own. He gets to 100% understanding after watching Smith make a [Jaffa Arrow], which grid winds up forging his first ever Epic-rated item, the [Special Jaffa Arrow]. The [Special Jaffa Arrow] was what led to him being recruited into Jishuka's guild.
    • For the Winston blacksmithing duel against Euphemina, Grid (with the help of Khan) forges the Unique-rated [Ideal Dagger]. The dagger would have won the duel, but Grid was wrongfully arrested by Valmont before his [Ideal Dagger] could be judged.
    • During his early days working in the Winston smithy, Grid forges two notable Epic-rated items, the [Very Delicate Plate Armor] and the [Seemingly Plain Gauntlets]. Khan suggests for Grid to put them up for auction at the Winston knight's auction event as doing so would net him more money. These items is what got Grid noticed by Vladi, the Winston Administrator.
    • Grid receives a blacksmith production quest from the Winston Administrator to forge 3 swords that are at least at the tier of Epic-rating to be used by the Eternal Kingdom knights. Amongst the 7 swords Grid forges for the quest, Grid comes out with 3 Normals, 1 Rare, 2 Epics, as well as his first Legendary-rated item, the [Sword of Self-Transcendence]. Overall, Grid completes the quest by turning in the 2 Epic-rated [Anticipated Swords] along with the [Sword of Self-Transcendence] and gets his first ever huge payout of 234,000 gold. He's also granted the special status of "Winston’s Person of Distinction" where works produced by Grid will now have a higher value in Winston and will be exempt from all taxes there.
    • Khan eventually notices that Grid's been using a lowly hammer completely unworthy of his Pagma's Successor class. Thus, Grid makes several blacksmithing hammers until he settles with an Epic-rated [Unknown Blacksmith’s Hammer].
    • In order to hunt the Frostlight Orcs of the Eternal Kingdom's cold north, Grid crafts a 5 item cold-resistance armor set using Giant Brown Bear Leather. The 5 cold-resist items includes 3 Normal-rated items, the [Warm Giant Brown Bear Leather Armor], the [Warm Giant Brown Bear Leather Hat], and the [Warm Giant Brown Bear Leather Cloak]. The other two items of the set is the Rare-rated [Warm and Functional Giant Brown Bear Leather Gloves], and the Epic-rated [Great Giant Brown Bear Boots].
    • In order to help him survive the dangers of the Eternal Kingdom's Kesan Canyon to search for the cliff there that reveals Pagma's swordsmanship, Grid forges the Rare-rated [Adventurer's Boots], and the Epic-rated [The Best Gauntlets].
    • Due to the ongoing war between the Eternal Kingdom and the Church of Yatan, Grid receives a blacksmith production quest from the Winston Administrator to forge a [Divine Shield] of the Church of Rebecca at the level of at least Epic-rating in order to push back the Yatan supporters. With the help of a Rebecca Church priest named Cassus, Grid goes about forging 2 shields, which Cassus is needed to infuse said shields with the divine power of Goddess Rebecca. Their work results in a Rare-rated [Divine Shield] and the Legendary-rated [Perfect Divine Shield]. As Grid goes to turn in the [Perfect Divine Shield] for the quest however, it ends up getting stolen by a Yatan supporter who was possessing the Winston Administrator, which the supporters ends up getting away with the [Perfect Divine Shield].

    J-W
  • Jack of All Trades: By becoming Pagma's Successor, Grid isn't restricted from using any weapon or tool. He just needs to use said weapons or tools to get a better handle on using them.
  • Jerkass: He acts like a pretty huge dick and selfish person early on (basically, the first 100ish chapters), but starts to develop into a better person and take life more seriously after realizing his heart was played with by Ahyoung, and when he befriended and began interacting with the players of the Tzedakah Guild.
    • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: His personality is very abrasive, but he has a good and noble core that makes him genuinely heroic.
  • Just Ignore It: This tends to happen as Grid's usually more interested in making items in the smithy compared to what's going on outside. All the Winston residents freaking out outside of the smithy due to Sir Phoenix's attack on a Yatan Temple failing? Doesn't matter to Grid, so he just returns to forging his next item.
  • Last Chance Hitpoint: The 'One who Became a Legend’ title that he got upon becoming Pagma's Successor provides Grid with a passive ability that triggers when he receives a blow that would normally kill him; leaving him at one hit-point, and makes him immune to damage for 5 seconds. The drawback is that this skill has a cooldown of 24-hours.
  • Laughing Mad: Caught doing this by his sister, Sehee, when he's posting envious nasty comments about Yura over the internet. It's very likely that he does this often when he feels the need to let off some steam.
  • Like an Old Married Couple: His initial meeting with Jishuka is basically the two of them arguing like children over who is more desperate for Regas' help. Grid needing him to help search for his stolen [Perfect Divine Shield], or Jishuka needing Regas to help the guild locate the potential unknown blacksmith (not knowing that it's the Grid person right in front of them).
  • Long-Range Fighter: When Grid activates the Transcend technique of his Pagma's Sword Dance Skill, his melee sword attacks become ranged strikes for 30 seconds.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: During the Malacus raid, Grid pulls out the Rare-rated [Divine Shield] that he crafted in order to have a counter against the summoned Cerberus dogs that the Tzedakah Guild were having trouble against.
  • Magic Potion: Early on, Grid bought himself a couple [Intermediate Strength Potions] and [Intermediate Agility Potions] in case he ran into a crisis while performing Earl Ashur's quest (the one that led Grid into finding [Pagma's Lost Book]. Grid ended up keeping them after the class change to Pagma's Successor, which he finally drinks one of each during the fight against the 5 Winston outlaws within Khan's smithy. As a result, Grid's Strength and Agility are buffed by 50 for 5 minutes.
  • Magnetic Hero: Despite having an abrasive personality, he manages to gather people to his cause by genuine acts of heroism.
  • The Magnificent: Grid obtains Titles based on his achievements within the game.
    • 'One who Became a Legend' - Obtained the Title after reading [Pagma's Lost Book], and changing to the hidden class, Pagma's Successor. The permanent effects from the title include abnormal conditions (statuses and curses) not having much of an effect on the user, not dying when health reaches minimum (becomes invulnerable for 5 seconds when health falls to one hitpoint, but has a 24 hour cooldown), and is easily acknowledged by those around him (NPCs will act more favorably towards him).
    • 'First Unique Item Maker' - Obtained the Title after forging the [Ideal Dagger], which is the first ever Unique-rated crafted item to appear in Satisfy. Grid gained +200 Dexterity in permanent stats.
    • 'Knight Slayer' - Obtained the Title after killing the Winston Knight, Leo. Grid gained +100 Stamina and +30 Strength in permanent stats.
    • 'Apostle of Justice' - Obtained the Title after completing the timed quest to rescue Huroi from the Winston Castle dungeon. Grid permanently gains the Courage stat, +10 to all stats, and the Unbreakable Justice Skill. He also obtains a passive Title skill where there's a chance for all his stats to increase by 30% for a brief time whenever his health drops below 10%.
    • 'Only Legendary Item Maker' - Obtained the Title after forging his first ever Legendary-rated item, the [Sword of Self-Transcendence]. Grid gained +350 Dexterity in permanent stats.
  • Manchild: He acts like a child when he goes off raging and ranting, such as needing to write nasty comments about someone or something over the internet. This was particularly prominent early on.
  • Men Can't Keep House: Early on, he didn't really care much about keeping his room clean to the point that his sister, Sehee, would clean it for him. This becomes way less of a problem once he becomes rich and starts living at his own place to pay others to clean.
  • Mighty Lumberjack: In order to prove his worth to Bairan's Blacksmith NPC, Smith, Grid is provided an E-rank Quest to chop at least 500 pieces of firewood using [Smith’s Old Axe]. He overworks after obtaining the Presistance stat, and instead chops up to 1000 firewood knowing that further work will help raise said stat from here on out.
  • Miscarriage of Justice: Seeing that the knife Grid forged was going to beat the one forged by Euphemina during the Winston blacksmithing duel, Valmont and Rabbit choose to send in the Winston knights to arrest Grid before he's declared the winner of the duel. The excuse for the arrest being that Grid has connections to Huroi, who they arrested earlier.
  • Mistaken for Gay: During the Winston blacksmith duel, Euphemina calls him out as being gay seeing that he had no reaction to her charming beauty. Given that Grid is not gay, he says he's not while calling her an unlucky brat in return.
  • Mood-Swinger: His emotional state is very unstable, and he's been known to bounce from happy to angry to sad, without any reason or rhyme to anyone except for those who can see his inner thoughts, and sometimes not even then.
  • My Greatest Failure: In a way, he views his creation of the [Failure] greatsword as this. Hence the name he gave it. Mostly because it has such insane stats and level requirements that no-one is anywhere near early in the game to possibly sell it to if he chose to make it. However, he starts to change his tune towards it when he realizes that he can still use [Failure] for himself, which he eventually does.
  • Necessary Drawback: Given that Pagma's Successor has the potential to be quite an overpowered blacksmithing class, it does come with some drawbacks to try to keep it somewhat balanced.
    • When Grid's wearing items that he doesn't have full understanding of while under the stats and level requirements, the items are nerfed.
    • If Grid's wearing items that he crafted, himself, that are still below the proper equip requirements, then such items are nerfed despite having full understanding of the item.
    • When his Legendary Blacksmith Craftsmanship Skill upgrades to the next version, such as after first making 5 Legendary-rated items, Grid no longer receives stat rewards for making lower rated items. Every time it upgrades, the game expects Grid to only be making more and more high quality items. Though because of Grid's nature to be Unluckily Lucky, he ended up grinding up a lot of stats before the game expected him to move up to the next level due to constantly making low-rated items that he would still be able to get the stat rewards from.
    • To raise the experience in his blacksmithing skills, forging the same exact items is nowhere near as effective as making different kinds of items.
    • Good materials have to be used in order for his forged items to obtain high ratings.
    • A lot of work has to be put into forging the item in order for it to receive a high rating.
    • Grid has to invest stat points into Strength, Dexterity, and Stamina. Strength and Dexterity are needed to handle the heavy minerals and equipment when working within a smithy, and Stamina is needed due to how exhausting it is constantly needing to forge items.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: As revenge for their many years of bullying him, Grid beat up Junho, Giwan and Chansun while all 3 of said bullies remained trapped in the webbings of a Kesan Canyon spider cave.
  • Oblivious to Love: Justified. Thanks to his horrific past and the fact that his first crush toyed cruelly with his emotions for a laugh, he completely fails to recognize the affections of uber-hotties Yura and Jishuka, whom he sees as way, way, way out of his league, even after both of them came into his hotel room wearing elegant but erotic night-wear.
  • Oh, Crap!: After witnessing Euphemina's copied Spear of Destruction skill kill 30 Winston guards at once during the Winston Castle dungeon escape, Grid quickly realizes in fear that she's not someone he should be pissing off. He also decides to try not calling her a kid anymore knowing that she's capable of easily killing him.
  • Once Killed a Man with a Noodle Implement: When coming to Khan's rescue, the only thing remotely like a weapon he's got is a single epic arrow. He manages to land a critical hit with the arrow, giving the criminal a One-Hit Kill.
  • One-Hit Kill: The many types of gear and weapons that Grid equips provides him with a plethora of opportunities and combos to potentially pull this off.
    • One of the effects of his [Ideal Dagger] gives Grid a rare chance of pulling off a one-hit dagger kill if it manages to activate. The first time this ever activates is when Grid is hunting frostlight orcs for [Sylphid Scales].
  • One-Hit Polykill: When Grid is using the [Dainsleif (Reproduction)] greatsword, it provides him the Golden Flash equip Skill. Upon activating the skill, Grid swings the sword and sends out a linear blast of energy that hits all enemies in a straight line. Said enemies receive damage equal to 1,000% of Grid's current magic power. However, it costs 500 mana, and the cooldown is 1 hour.
  • Oxymoronic Being: He is a bundle of walking contradictions, especially the fact that he suffers from all the seven deadly sins and benefits from all the seven heavenly virtues at the same time.
  • Parents as People: He loves his son, Lord, and would dote on him 24/7 if he was able, but his duties as leader of Overgeared and the fact that he has a territory to run often leaves the kid in the hands of his mother, tutors, and a bunch of young girls originally slated to go through the cruel "Daughters Of Rebecca" Tyke Bomb training and brainwashing, but rescued by Pope Damian.
  • Percent Damage Attack: When Grid is using the [Dainsleif (Reproduction)] greatsword, his sword attacks deal an additional damage based on 10% of the target's current Defense.
  • Powerful Pick: After completing Smith's quest to chop firewood, Grid is next provided [Smith’s Pickaxe] to mine [Iron Ore] from the mountain mine near Bairan Village. Upon using Legendary Blacksmith’s Appraisal Skill on [Smith’s Pickaxe], Grid learns how to forge pickaxes. He mines up to 170 [Iron Ores] for Smith's 80 ore quest, which not only impresses Smith, but the NPCs of Bairan Village as well after the miners spread the word about Grid's mining work.
  • Rags to Riches: Grid lived a poor man's life at the start of the series living with his parents, and in debt. However, that all started to change for him the moment he became the Pagma's Successor class. Grid comes to realize just how broken the class is at making money when he sees that the first ever Epic-rated item he ever made, the [Special Jaffa Arrows], were sold for around 71 gold. He only had 3 gold at the time. Eventually, his continued work forging and selling items leads to him becoming a rich national celebrity.
  • Rainbow Pimp Gear: In reality. Due to spending years in extreme poverty, his fashion sense was "whatever I can get my hands on and fits" which made him look terrible. When his sister introduces her best friend to him, as he's picking them up from school in his spanking new SB 13, the 800 million won self-driving sports car, Sehee's friend takes him clothes shopping and gets him to buy some well-tailored matching outfits, so he stops being an embarrassment.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Aiming to protect Khan's smithy for a quest, Grid gives out one to the 5 Mero Company NPC criminals (Johnson, Um, Praga, Neil and Veil) claiming that he can't forgive lowly educated folk who don't take care of the elderly, and that they remind him of the horrible Mother’s Heart Is Happy company employees that Grid has a money debt to in real life. This of course pisses off the 5 criminals into attacking him.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Usually when Grid gets paired up with someone in the story, they tend to play off one another this way.
    • He was the calm Blue to Steng's enthusiastic Red during the Winston knight auction chapters.
    • He's the emotional Red to Cassus' emotionless Blue during the chapters that they worked together on Grid's quest to forge a high-rated [Divine Shield].
    • The depressed Blue to Regas' energetic Nice Guy Red as the two of them go about working together to search for Grid's Legendary-rated [Perfect Divine Shield] that was stolen by a Yatan supporter.
  • Refusal of the Call: Early on, he refused S-rank Quests provided by Doran and Piaro due to his low level. Grid ended up being forced into doing Doran's quest, and he eventually returned to Piaro to take on his offered quest once Grid had gotten stronger.
  • Revenge: Several cases.
    • Originally, he desired this against Earl Ashur due to the latter killing Grid for not handing over [Pagma's Lost Book].
    • Grid considers it sweet revenge after defeating his first Canyon Spider within Kesan Canyon as they gave him a rough time in the past to the point that he developed a phobia towards spiders.
    • In a twist of fate, he comes across Junho, Giwan and Chansun, a gang of 3 bullies who constantly went about treating him like shit throughout their school days, and some of the years after. Grid finally gets revenge on them by beating them senseless when he comes across the 3 of them trapped in the webbing of a Canyon Spider nest in Kesan Canyon. It continues on when he tells them and the other bullies off at the most recent school reunion.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: In cold and eerie Tranquil Fury. Lauel was preparing for Grid to go berserk at the death of Khan and mobilize the army to hunt down Immortal Guild. Grid exceeds his expectations with a press-conference condemning Immortal and recruiting the remaining 2 billion other players to constantly PK them without rest, at the price of one of Grid's items for each and every kill, regardless of the cost...
  • Running Gag: Several.
    • Throughout the series, people misunderstand Grid's actions like...a lot; usually interpreting what he does as something completely different.
      • Early on, Grid causes several misunderstandings as a result of him walking around slowly from being over the game weight limit. This was due to Grid holding onto high-tier equipment despite having just gone through a level and class reset. This goes away once Grid's able to finally stash away the high-tier equipment into a storage shed.
      • Grid would end up doing something that ends up being really minor or irrelevant, but to everyone else, it would seem so important and possibly making Grid seem dangerous to his enemies.
    • Early on, Grid's real world family would usually throw things at his head during meals, like spoons or pieces of food, if they spot him doing something they don't like.
  • Serious Business: He takes any and all crafting requests as sacred tasks, regardless of how mundane the request is, even farming implements, and spends as much time as needed to get the best possible outcome. Ruining his work will drive him into an Unstoppable Rage.
  • Set Bonus: Grid can craft his own armor sets, which provide set bonuses.
    • To hunt Frostlight Orcs in the cold north of the Eternal Kingdom, Grid crafted the frost-resisting "Giant Brown Bear Leather Set," which consisted of 5 items: 3 Normal-rated items, the [Warm Giant Brown Bear Leather Armor], the [Warm Giant Brown Bear Leather Hat], and the [Warm Giant Brown Bear Leather Cloak], the Rare-rated [Warm and Functional Giant Brown Bear Leather Gloves], and the Epic-rated [Great Giant Brown Bear Boots]. Wearing these 5 items as a set provides an additional +60 Defense and +30% Cold Resistance.
  • Shoot the Dog: He's not afraid to face the difficult choices if he has to.
    • He sacrifices Huroi, who willingly drew aggro against a poweful vampire named boss, to avoid a Total Party Kill, then speed-leveled to gain vengeance later.
    • When fighting the corrupt elders of the Church of Rebecca, he shelters the innocent prostitutes present and tries to avoid involving them in the collateral damage, but when the corrupt elders try to use them as shields, he weighs their lives against the lives of the millions who would get caught up in a war with the Sahara empire should even one of these elders rush to the empire for aid and ultimately stabs through the prostitutes when he has to.
  • Sir Swearsalot: He tends to rage and swear a lot when things annoy him or don't go his way.
  • Smart Ball: He may be a moron, but he's not a fool. He does consider his options carefully and has occasionally come up with brilliant ideas that floor well-known geniuses.
    • He brings the Korean team a gold medal in the "Drake Boss Raid" event of the Second Olympic games by forging a trident and pillar to negate the drake's greatest advantage, flight, this allowing his team to wail away at it as it struggles, and then when it does manage to tear free, it's so badly enraged and confused that he completely dominates it in the sky with his own [Flight] enabled boots, occasionally turning off the magic to add his own body-weight to his blows, giving him the achievement of delivering over 20 million points of damage in a single strike with a critical hit at a weak-spot.
    • He manages to bring Korea a Silver in the castle-siege event with clever use of misdirection and False Flag Operations.
    • When he learns of Lauel's plan to bring Kruegel into the guild, he understands the short-term benefits, but points out the long-term pitfalls even Lauel himself didn't see, and refuses to bring Kruegel into the guild by force, but he still extends the hand of friendship to Kruegel and lets Kruegel continue his solo-play style, unhindered, as long as Kruegel is willing come aid Overgeared guild when called.
    • He crafts a powerful greatsword for Chris, leader of Giant Guild, but sets it up so the weapon can only be repaired by Grid himself, thus eliminating Giant Guild as an enemy.
    • He triggers a mass influx of users into Overgeared kingdom by crafting royal quests that drop his hand-crafted equipment sets as rewards.
    • He tracks down Dark, the leader of Blood Carnival, in reality, by sniffing out the guy's real user ID, which he managed to get a peak at, and then rather than harass him, sent Peak Sword to recruit him to the guild, which Peak Sword eventually succeeds at due to their shared love of Korean cuisine.
  • Sour Outside, Sad Inside: The reason for his abrasive nature is that he's been horribly mistreated for most of his life, with even his parents having given up hope on him and treating him as air, and whenever it looked like he would get his head out of the muck, someone would come along and stomp on it. So it takes him a while, a good while, before he realizes that the good people of Tzedakah guild weren't simply more of the same, looking to exploit his blacksmith class and then dump him when they don't need him any more.
  • Spam Attack: When he has his Epic-rated [The Best Gauntlets] equipped, there's a slim chance of Grid activating the Double Barrage Skill.
  • Spanner in the Works: His very existence puts a monkey wrench into the well-crafted plans of the game coders. Of course, the game's creator finds this all fascinating.
  • Special Attack: Many given the different types of skills and gear that Grid uses throughout the series.
    • When Grid activates the Link technique of his Pagma's Sword Dance Skill, he performs a single target sword strike that deals 500% increased damage based on his Attack Power.
    • When Grid is using the [Dainsleif (Reproduction)] greatsword, his sword attacks deal increasingly more damage the greater the number of enemies there are surrounding him.
  • Spell My Name With An S: The light novel translates his name as 'Grid', but the manwha translation switched to 'Greed'.
  • Spiders Are Scary: Grid has a bit of a spider phobia due to the horrors he experienced against the Canyon Spiders of Kesan Canyon before the start of the story. He gets over it when he has to return to the canyon again and fight through the spiders during his search for Pagma's swordsmanship.
  • Starter Equipment: In a way, the two noteworthy items he obtained during his original days as a Warrior, the Epic-rated [Mamon’s Greatsword] and Rare-rated [Mengel’s Plate Armor], serve as his starter items after Grid became Pagma's Successor, and was reset back to Level 1.
    • After Grid puts [Mamon’s Greatsword] and [Mengel’s Plate Armor] into Winston storage (he never wore them again, and eventually sold them away), Grid is back to wearing just normal starter clothing. This actually plays a huge role early on as NPCs and players just view him as an unimportant newbie working in Khan's smithy despite him being the infamous unknown blacksmith player that people are searching for.
  • Stat Grinding: Thanks to the Legendary Blacksmith Craftsmanship Skill, Grid specifically has the benefit of getting stat rewards based on the ratings of the items he forges that end up higher than the Normal-rating. The higher the Legendary Blacksmith Craftsmanship Skill levels up however, the fewer the item ratings will provide increased stat rewards. Like eventually, Grid only starts getting the stat reward for making items at the Legendary-rating or higher.
  • Status Buff: Many given all the skills and gear he has.
    • It's said that back when he was a Warrior, Grid had a self-buff skill that increased attack power by 20%, but had a 3 minute cooldown. He doesn't have this anymore due to the class switch to Pagma's Successor.
    • Grid receives the Blacksmith's Rage Skill just for accepting the quest to protect Khan's smithy from the 5 Mero Company criminals. For 20 seconds, Grid enters into a rage mode where attack power and attack speed are increased (cooldown is 60 seconds). The self-buffs provided by Blacksmith's Rage are +10% attack power and +30% attack speed at Level 1.
    • When Grid has his [Ideal Dagger] equipped, he has access to the Quick Movements item skill. When Quick Movements is activated, Grid's Agility doubles and Evasion Rate is increased by 30% for 1 minute.
    • Grid was rewarded with the Unbreakable Justice Skill for obtaining the 'Apostle of Justice' Title. When Unbreakable Justice is activated, his Attack Power is increased by 300% for a brief time at Level 1.
    • His Pagma's Sword Dance Skill when it remains deactivated acts as a passive by increasing Physical Attack Power by 20% and Critical Hit Rate by 10% as long as Grid has some type of sword equipped.
    • When Grid activates the Transcend technique of his Pagma's Sword Dance Skill, his Attack Power is doubled for 30 seconds.
  • Status Infliction Attack: Several of his skills can cause ailments to his enemies.
    • When Grid activates the Wave technique of his Pagma's Sword Dance Skill, enemies that get caught up in this sword dance's Area of Effect get hit with reduced speed.
    • When Grid activates the Restraint technique of his Pagma's Sword Dance Skill, he performs a sword dance that overwhelms his surroundings to the point of stunning a target for 3 seconds.
  • Stone Wall: Usually takes advantage of his variety of stats and skills to take on the role of playing as the group's tanker. Especially true with his 5 second invulnerability passive at 1 health is active. During the Irene rescue mission, Grid used the 5 second invulnerability to tank all the attacks from Yura and the Yatan Church followers in order to distract them enough for Doran to go around and kill the enemies who are focused on Grid.
  • Supernatural Fear Inducer: When Grid has the Unique-rated [Frostlight Orc Chief's Helmet] equipped, there's a chance of him causing a fear effect on his opponents.
  • Taking the Bullet: He'll take the hit to either make sure that he still has allies alive to keep fighting as a group (like when he took the hit from the Frostlight Orc Chief to keep Huroi alive), or to protect those he comes to care about. Early on was more towards the former while further into the series becomes more of the latter.
  • Time to Unlock More True Potential: His Legendary Blacksmith’s Appraisal skill allows for Grid to observe items with his excellent discerning eye to possibly find any hidden features. His skill would unlock the hidden feature, resulting in an obvious buff for the item.
  • Took a Level in Badass: This tends to happen a lot for Grid due to all the new types of gear and skills that he acquires all throughout the series.
    • His class change from Warrior to Pagma's Successor started Grid on a journey of completely turning his life around making and selling items as a blacksmither.
    • Learning Pagma's Sword Dance provided Grid the necessary combat techniques to be a proper fighter, whether it be to hunt monsters, or to duel against players in PVP.
  • Ultimate Blacksmith: His profession once he gets the legendary hidden class, Pagma's Successor.
    • As the Pagma's Successor class, it comes with several passives for Grid. Compared to other blacksmithers, there's a higher probability of enhancing and adding additional options to items he forges. In addition, Grid can wear ALL equipment in the game unconditionally, but if he wears gear that he hasn't reached the equip requirements for, it will be nerfed.
    • As a result of becoming Pagma's Successor, Grid already starts off at the highest Master level in the Blacksmith Craftsmanship Skill to make items between the Normal to Unique-rating. Thus, he instead is provided a different Blacksmith Craftsmanship skill that he needs to train up from Level 1; the Legendary Blacksmith Craftsmanship Skill. Compared to the normal Blacksmith Craftsmanship Skill, the Legendary Blacksmith Craftsmanship Skill gives Grid a chance to possibly make items as high as the Legendary-rating, and that something nice will happen after Grid makes 5 Legendary items. This basically means that in order to become a better ultimate blacksmith, Grid has to make items that are of the Legendary-rating.
    • Gained the Legendary Blacksmith’s Creation Skill after becoming Pagma's Successor, which allows for Grid to come up with his own blacksmith production recipes. The creation skill has a limited use as he's only allowed to make up to 3 recipes at the lowest level. However, the amount of max recipes goes up the stronger Grid becomes. Some of his item inventions include the following:
      • [Failure] - a large shark-themed greatsword made from Blue Orichalcum.
      • [Hooded Zip-Up] - a hooded invisibility cloak made from Sylphid Scales.
    • Gained the Legendary Blacksmith’s Appraisal Skill after becoming Pagma's Successor, which allows for Grid to observe items with his excellent discerning eye to possibly find an hidden features. The hidden feature would then be unlocked, resulting in an obvious buff for the item. In addition, using Appraisal on items helps him gain a better understanding of the item to use it properly, and make items similar to it.
    • Gained the Legendary Blacksmith’s Patience Skill after becoming Pagma's Successor. While Grid continues to persevere at whatever he's currently doing, this passive activates; increasing concentration, stamina, and defense to the extremes for one hour. It can activate at any time, but this is primarily seen when he's forging items.
    • Gained the Legendary Blacksmith’s Breath Skill after becoming Pagma's Successor. While Grid is hard at work forging items, this passive activates. The will of Pagma's Successor fills the production item, which increases the item's effectiveness. At Level 1, items affected by the Breath skill has 5% increased stats, and there's a rare chance that a special feature will be provided to the item.
    • Gained the Legendary Blacksmith’s Discernment Skill after becoming Pagma's Successor. Depending on his actions, like using his Appraisal Skill, Grid can learn better understanding of items to the point of eventually being able to make them once he's reached 100% understanding. Though higher rated items will take longer to reach full 100% understanding.
    • Gained the Legendary Blacksmith’s Repair Skill after becoming Pagma's Successor. Grid can repair the durability of items as long as a repair tool is used, and repairing items helps increase Grid's item understanding on the item being repaired.
    • Gained the Legendary Blacksmith’s Disassembly Skill after becoming Pagma's Successor. Grid can disassemble items down to their basic crafting material, which helps with better understanding of said item that's been disassembled.
    • Gained the Legendary Blacksmith’s Blessing Skill after becoming Pagma's Successor. Grid can provide fellow Blacksmiths with a one-time blessing that will permanently increase their Blacksmith Craftsmanship Skill by several levels.
  • Unluckily Lucky: His misfortune is so bad, it tends to loop back around again to give him a lucky outcome. As a prime case-in-point, his blacksmith class was never meant to be such a powerhouse, but because his odds of crafting [Legendary] gear were so poor even the programmers were worried his character was bugged, he didn't get the stat corrections that should have triggered upon crafting his fifth item of that rank doesn't happen until several months too late, often making him stronger than other users twice his level, even after his level is already in the hundreds. For reference, normal users gain 10 stat points a level, apart from any bonuses from quests/titles or extraordinary circumstances. A normal level 180 user would have gotten 1800 points from level ups, and perhaps a few hundred more at most from quests/titles/luck, with a good amount of the extra bonus stats likely distributed to non-primary stats that don't have wide effects. Grid, on the other hand, at level 180 (the last full Stat Window that we see for quite a while), after all of his ignorant low level crafting and horrible item luck, Grid has over SEVEN THOUSAND stat points total, with over FOUR THOUSAND stat points in his 5 primary stats.
    • Grid's early ignorance at the game further pays off when he enters Behen Archipelago Level 31-32, where the users face a unique challenge from their past - first they have to fight the enemy that killed them the most while limited to the level/stats/items that they had at the time, and then they had to complete the quest that they failed the most, again with the level/stats/items that they had at the time. A super-genius like Kraugel has to fight the Great Demon Furfur with Kraugel at level 180, an impossible task (Grid was barely able to defeat Hell Gao in a similar state with far higher stats and legendarily overpowered equipment at over level 200 with the assistance of Peak Sword, and only AFTER Hell Gao was weakened by 50% by mining Fire stones), and because the quest locks Kraugel into his original level/stats/items, he acknowledges he would never be able to clear it without intentionally dying multiple times to an enemy he could easily beat and then returning to Behen. What is Grid's deadliest enemy? Fighting bunnies in the starting zone. What is Grid's most failed quest? Weapons training with the town guard of his starting city. This is DOUBLY insanely lucky for Grid because it's hilariously easy for him to beat the quests, but he's so much better at the game with lower stats, that when he beats the quest he breaks the records and as a reward gets multiple rare skills that he gets to keep in the present.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: He has stats far higher than the norm, and his class quests have granted him some very powerful skills, but because he's a bit of a moron, he doesn't use them in battle as efficiently or effectively as he should, regardless of his vast combat experience.
  • Volleying Insults: Falls into this against Euphemina viewing her as a bratty child while Euphemina views him as gay trash.
  • Who's Laughing Now?: Once he manages to clear his debts and prosper at Satisfy, he goes to his alumni reunion sporting an 800 million won sports-car and shows up arm in arm with the in-universe celebrity Yura, who then gives him a peck on the cheek, before leaving. He then browbeats the guy who loved to bully him in high-school, and mugged him at the last alumni reunion and gave the rest "The Reason You Suck" Speech when they tried to suck up to him, reminding them how they just pointed and laughed when he was in trouble, and blew off his first crush who mocked his Love Confession and tried to string him along, after she asked him out in the first place. Telling her she's nothing special, especially compared to someone like Yura.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: He has several phobias.
    • He has an odd fear of ghosts dating back to possibly seeing one and freaking him out during his elementary school days. Grid admits that he might have just been seeing things, but its a phobia that's stuck with him ever since. In the present, it comes roaring back when he encounters the ghosts of Khan's family at their gravesite. Once the ghost event was over, Khan noticed that Grid's crotch area was wet.
    • He also developed a bit of a fear towards spiders. This is mainly due to the horrors he experienced against the Canyon Spiders of Kesan Canyon when he was there trying to work on Earl Ashur's quest before the start of the story. Though he gets a lot better towards them when it was time for Grid to return to the canyon to search for Pagma's swordsmanship, and has to face said fear by fighting through the Canyon Spiders. He gets over the fear after finally killing his first Canyon Spider.
  • Wild Card: His loyalties tend to be very fluid, but his family and True Companions can always still count on him.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Hotness: As he grows stronger in his blacksmith class, he becomes more handsome, both in the game and in reality.
