Do you know the saying "The dead don't have a voice"?

A forensic doctor who recently returned to his hometown and gets tangled up in a murder case.

Tropes

  • Amateur Sleuth: When the police refuses to coninue to investigate Jane's murder, starts to investigate on his own.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He appears pretty much non-violent but when he finds out that Tan is the mysterious Dam and has lied to him, Tan finds himself with a gun to the head.
  • Brutal Honesty: All the time, regardless of the potential danger he could put himself in.
    • In Episode 2 towards Tan. He tells him outright that he thinks Tan is the murderer. And at the end of the episode he accuses Tan of kidnapping Pued.
      • Again in Episode 8. While holding Tan at gunpoint, he accuses him of killing Pued.
    • Towards Inspector M on several occasions. He even calls the police a waste of taxpayer's money to his face.
Inspector M: You really hate the police don't you?
Bunn: I only hate the police who don't help the people. Here... Pat's autopsy report. Please hand it to the police who help the people.
  • Clear Their Name: After Tan gets arrested for allegedly killing Pued, Bunn tries to get him clear of the charges.
  • The Coroner: Bunn's the resident forensic doctor in town.
  • Exhausted Eye Bags: After getting no sleep for a few days, thanks to being attacked at his own house. Dr Oat comments on this and says that Dr Bunn looks terrible.
  • Gentleman and a Scholar: Bunn is shown to be rather intelligent but also very social and all around pleasant person to have around.
  • Honor Before Reason: He always tries to do what's right, a lot of the times it puts him in harms way. Tann calls him out on this a few times.
  • Justice Will Prevail: His motive for trying to solve the case is to give Jane justice.
  • Light Is Good: Wears usually bright colors, often white shirts.
  • Nature Lover: Defines his happiness as being surronded by green. Moved back to his small hometown in northern Thailand from Bangkok. His memories from being a child include going star gazing with Jane.
  • Nice Guy: He is seen to be rather popular with all kinds of different people and treats everyone with mostly only kindness and respect.
  • No Poker Face: Bunn can't really hide what he's really thinking when he's talking to people. In the first episode despite trying to be uneffected, his attraction towards Tan is clear to see. On the other side, while talking with Inspector M, his disrespect can be read on his face.
  • The Protagonist: The story is told mainly through his perspective.
  • Screw the Money, I Have Rules!: In Episode 1 after being offered a bribe by Pat.
  • Security Cling: Towards Tan, after escaping a shoot-out at their house.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: After figuring out pretty early that the police are useless and not to be trusted, Bunn is not above breaking a few rules to get justice.
  • Through His Stomach: Cooks on the regular for Tan. Supposedly only does the cooking because Tan is so terrible at it, but it's clear he's doing it out of affection for him.
  • Too Unhappy to Be Hungry: In Episode 8 when Oat asks him to eat something together, Bunn declines and says he's not hungry. In fact he's still not over his fight/break-up with Tan.
  • Your Favorite: When talking about favourite dishes, Tan mentions that his favourite are stuffed eggs since his mother always made them for him. The next time Bunn makes him some to eat at work.

    Tutor Tan

I'm not a bad guy

A mysterious resident of Viangpha Mork, teaches at his own cram school and manages the pub The Mist at night.

Tropes

  • Ambiguous Criminal History: Has a rather criminal backstory but the details are unclear.
  • Badass in Distress: At the end of episode 8, Tan gets framed for the murder of his brother Pued and arrested by the police.
  • Big Brother Mentor: Towards Tat.
  • Black Sheep: Is noticable different from his family, who he also works for. While having done plenty of criminal things, he draws the line at murder. That doesn't go over so well. When he was tasked to kill a defector from the organisation and his brother ordered him to hunt him down and kill him, he doesn't do as he's told. Por sees him as a constant disappointment and a failure. His father barely acknowledges him.
  • Caring Gardener: Becomes this after meeting Bunn. He tried to grow a vegetable garden before but never had time for it. Bunn's wish for a house with flowers and trees, turns him into a hobby gardener. Bunn gifts him a chili plant and Tan is seen lovenly taking care of it after. He adds more flowers and plants and builts a watering system for them.
  • Deuteragonist: The most important character after Bunn.
  • Do You Trust Me?: Asks this question towards Bunn in the last episode.
  • Empty Fridge, Empty Life: Bunn comments on the fact, that before he moved in there was nothing to eat in Tan's kitchen.
  • Frameup: Gets framed by the police for killing Pued
  • Had to Be Sharp: Most of his family deal in the moral grey area of life. His big brother leads a criminal organisation, which Tan also workes for. He constantly has to lie and watch his back because he doesn't have many friends or simply people who can protect him.
  • Hesitation Equals Dishonesty: In Episode 4, Bunn asks Tann if he can trust him, Tann takes a little bit longer to answer and then just says that he'll do his best. Tan was lying about Pued and only telling Bunn half-truths.
  • It's All My Fault: After Bunn ends up in a hospital bed due to a car accident, Tan blames himself for it because he wasn't around to protect Bunn.
  • Keeping Secrets Sucks: Has to keep it a secret from Bunn that Pued wasn't kidnapped but disappeared of his own accord. Just like the fact that Pued is actually his brother and Tan is rather deeply involved in the criminal activities of his family. And the fact that he orchestrated the attacks on Bunn to keep him away from the truth and out of danger.
  • Late to the Tragedy: In Episode 8, Tan drives to Pued only to discover that he is already dead and all actions to revive him are futile.
  • Love-Interest Traitor: Subverted Bunn finds out that Tan is Dam and confronts him about it. Considering the fact that he thought Dam could be the murderer, Bunn thinks Tan lied to him all along and their love is fake. Turns out Tan did lie to him but he was ordered to take care of Bunn by his brother. All those threats against Bunn were fake and just a means to keep him off the case and safe. While Pued knows more than he says, Tan was just doing what he was told. Falling in love just happened along the way. They eventually make up.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Tan is also known as Dam. A mysterious man who always wears black (hence the name, dam means black in Thai) and is known to be very dangerous. No one has seen his face and supposedly everyone who did died. His reputation seems to be worse than he actually is though.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Gets one in Episode 9 While being locked in a holding cell, he gets viciously attacked by a group of sent men.
  • Punch a Wall: In Episode 6, Tan punches the murder board in anger, after finding out new information about Jane.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Pretty obvious.
  • The Tease: Towards Bunn on multiple occasions. He likes to remind Bunn of the drunken kiss in the pub while looking him up and down.
Tan: [looking at Bunn seductively] Do you want to know how polite I can be?
  • Terrible Pick-Up Lines: Awfully fond of ridiculous and just plain weird pick-up lines. They seem to work on Bunn though.
  • Thicker Than Water: Would do everything for his family, regardless how bad they treat him.
  • Throw 'Em to the Wolves: In Episode 14 finds Rungtiwa, who was trying to leave the country, and hands her over to Por, knowing Por will kill her.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: Does a lot of dirty work in his business, killing people however is one of the lines he won't cross.

Tropes

  • Blind Obedience: Up until episode 10, then he decides to define authority and help Bunn and Tan after all.
  • Convenient Coma: Subverted, since he's only pretending and it's all a ruse so that the Commander and Captain Gun are let to believe that M is in critical condition.
  • Fair Cop: He's very attractive and seems to wear a uniform at least one size to small.
  • Friend on the Force: Towards Bunn in earlier episodes and becomes this again towards the end.

  • Work Hard, Play Hard: Implied to be this. Invites Bunn out for a drink in the first episode and seems to be a regular with lots of friends at the local pub/club. His personality becomes a lot more playful off the job.

A prosecutor and childhood friend to Dr. Bunn. His disappearance quite early in the series drives Dr. Bunn further in discovering the truth.

Tropes

  • The Casanova: Is known by everyone as a playboy seems to have changed his ways for Jane.

Tropes

  • Cool Big Sis: Janes sees her as this. She admires Rungtiwa a lot and looks up to her.
  • Death by Adaptation: She survives in the novel and only goes to prison. She gets killed by Por in a really cruel manner in the series.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Her power and current position are thanks to selling her body to the high officials in town when she was younger. That doesn't give her an excuse to let her sister be used the same way.
  • Hypocrite: Claims she's doing what she's doing to help her and Jane survive, puts her sister deliberatly in mortal danger and ends up killing her to keep her quiet.
    • Calls the police out for not doing their job in helping solve Janes murder when she herself is the murderer.
  • Interrogation Flashback: In Episode 12 when she gets arrested for Pueds murder, she tells her story in the interrogation room.

  • Playing the Victim Card: Towards Pued Blaming him breaking up with her ten years ago and starting dating Jane doesn't make him responsible for Rungtiwa killing Jane.
  • Promotion to Parent: Acts like a mother towards Jane.
  • Not Good with Rejection: One of the reasons for the things she did can be found in the break-up with Pued ten years ago. She still seems to be bitter about it.
  • Speak Ill of the Dead: Towards Pued. She accuses him of being Jane's murderer.
  • Unreliable Narrator: Proves to be one of those. In Episode 12 she tells a story about Janes death that turns out to have major facts wrong or missing. One scene with Pued and Jane is in later episodes revealed to be a conversation between the two sisters.

  • Break the Cutie: In Episode 13 when her backstory is revealed Jane went through many traumatic events before the events of Episode 1, incl. sexual abuse, gaslighting and victim blaming from her own sister and having to get an abortion as an result of the sexual abuse. Tropes

  • Bearer of Bad News: Towards Captain Gun and the Commander, he tells them about Inspector M's condition. Though it turns out he lied and his condition wasn't as bad as Oat made them believe.
  • The Intern: Oat workes as an intern at the local hospital, he assists Bunn with his cases.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: Serves at this at least at the beginning of the series. Many scenes between him and Bunn are lighthearted and funny.

    Tat

That/Tat

Does probably criminal work for Dam and works for Por at the pub The Mist at night. Becomes friendly with Sorawit.

Tropes

  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: Sorawit calls him out on this on multiple occasions. Appears cold and tough but is actually quite a softie.
  • Delinquents: Does appear to be one. While he works for Por and directly under Dam, has his own people, who are his age, under him. His first appearance has him beating up Sorawit because of a misunderstanding.
  • Emotionally Tongue-Tied: Has trouble saying that he's sorry to Sorawit. Apologizes for beating him up in a quiet voice but denies having said it, after Sorawit asks him to repeat it.

  • A Friend in Need: Towards Nam. Gets himself in really dangerous situations to get her back.

    Por

Por

Actor: A Suraphan Chaopaknam

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vxqed_3f.jpg
some caption text

The local crime leader. Pued's older brother and an influential person in town.

Tropes

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Way nicer then he was in the novel while still capable of bad things. But not putting out a kill order towards Bunn like in the novel.
  • Angry Collar Grab: Towards Tan in Episode 9. Pued visits Tan in the holding cell and grabs him through the bars out of anger.
  • The Don: The local crime boss. Presumingly took over from his father and deals mostly in the grey arenas, nothing completely dark.
  • It's Personal: Takes Pueds death very personal. Swears to get revenge for him.
  • Revenge: Swears to get revenge for Pued's death. When he finds Rungtiwa in the last episode, his revenge is brutal and deadly.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: He dies in the novel but survives in the series.
  • Thicker Than Water: Lives by this, would do everything to protect his brother Pued. Doesn't consider Tann family, so whatever he does to him doesn't count in his eyes.
  • Wild Card: For most of the series it's not clear which side he is on. Tries to kill Tan and Bunn because he thinks Tan murdered Pued (Bunn is just unlucky by being in harm's way) but later on helps Tan and Bunn and saves the children from a corrupt policeman who tried to kill them.
