Sawa Mitoma
Sawa Mitoma
The main protagonist of the sequel. She is a first-year student at Kaibara Municipal High School who gets involved with the children of the rich Sohma family.
- Apologises a Lot: She apologizes for almost everything she does. Her mother is to blame for this as she loves to guilt trip Sawa into giving her apologies over things that aren't her fault.
- The Bait: Mutsuki made Sawa befriend the Sohmas because he knew Shiki had been pining for her since his brief meeting with Sawa when they were kids. Shiki had become withdrawn because of the harassment from the people in the main Sohma house, so bringing Sawa into the Sohma kids' social circle motivates Shiki to join their activities more.
- Contrasting Sequel Main Character: Downplayed. Much like Tohru in the original series, Sawa is a high school girl who is kind-hearted, but has low self-esteem. Still, their coping mechanisms and relationships with their mothers are complete opposites. Tohru presented herself as the most empathetic person to those around her and helped the Sohmas overcome their emotional problems while hiding her insecurities behind an eternally happy facade. On the other hand, Sawa tries to avoid being a bother to others by closing herself off and avoiding social interaction until the Sohma children bring her out of her shell. Also, Tohru was raised by an extremely loving and wise single mother who died tragically just when she was starting high school and it takes Tohru nearly the entire series to accept her mother is gone forever. Meanwhile, Sawa's divorcee mother is still alive, but she's neglectful and emotionally abusive towards Sawa, causing Sawa to wish her mother would go away.
- Curtains Match the Window: She has dark brown hair and eyes.
- Eating Lunch Alone: At first, she gets away from everyone at school during lunchtime to eat alone. After she learns there's two girls at her class who want to be her friends, Sawa starts eating lunch together with them.
- Friendless Background: She didn't have lasting friendships while growing up due to avoiding interaction to not bother other people and her mother driving her elementary school friends away with insults. It's not until she meets the Sohmas that she starts forming a stable social circle.
- Hates Their Parent: With help from Hajime and the Sohmas, Sawa admits that she hates her mother for being such an abusive Jerkass and wishes she wasn't around. The final straw is when she discovers that her mother not only drove her friends away with her insults, but when Sawa fell off the stairs, she decided to blame Shiki and use it as an opportunity to sue the Sohmas for a payoff. Upon hearing that, Sawa has had enough of her mother.
- He Is Not My Boyfriend: She freaks out when Sora suggests her to tell everyone Shiki is her boyfriend.
- Nervous Wreck: She struggles with anxiety issues.
- Never Be Hurt Again: Her elementary school friends said they didn't want to play with her anymore without explaining why. Ever since then, Sawa tries and avoids interacting with people out of fear of doing something wrong and make them hate her. This is later revealed to be because her mother drove them all away with insults when one of Sawa's older elementary school friends meet her again and explain the incident.
- Penny Among Diamonds: Much like Tohru, Sawa is a middle-class girl who becomes close friends with the rich kids of the Sohma family.
- This Is Unforgivable!: Her reaction when she discovers that her mother once blamed Shiki for injuries she suffered after falling down the stairs and sued the Sohmas for it, when in reality, it was a complete accident. Sawa is finally fed up with her mother's bullshit and calls it quits, swearing she'll never forgive her.Sawa: There are so many things I can never get back. So much pain. So many tears. So, so much. I’ve had things stolen from me. I’ve been hurt. It feels so unbelievably unfair. I can never, ever forgive her.
Hajime Sohma
Hajime Sohma
The eldest son of Tohru and Kyo.
- Adaptational Early Appearance: Hajime and his younger siblings can be seen in various photos of Tohru and Kyo's family portraits in the finale of the anime reboot.
- Big Brother Instinct: He habitually acts like a protective older brother to those younger than him. It helps he has two actual younger siblings back at home.
- Country Mouse: Hajime's family lives in the countryside, and he only moved to the city to go the same high school his parents went to.
- Even the Loving Hero Has Hated Ones: He's the Team Dad to the new generation of Sohmas, and has Tohru's kind heart, but he makes it clear that he despises Kyo's birth father and doesn't consider him family, and nothing will ever change his mind.
- Family Eye Resemblance: He inherited Tohru's brown eyes.
- Family of Choice: He tells Sawa that he doesn't consider Kyo's biological father his grandfather for the awful person he is. To him, his only living grandparent is Kazuma, Kyo's loving adoptive father.
- Fiery Redhead: Not to the extent his father was, but Hajime is still a redhead with short temper.
- Hates Their Parent: He loves his parents, but makes it clear in no uncertain terms that he hates his biological grandfather and doesn't consider him family at all, and no matter how many times people tell him otherwise, nothing will change his mind. Perfectly understandable, considering Kyo's biological father was a Jerkass who viewed Kyo himself as a horrifying monster and abused his mother to the point she jumped in front of a train.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's gruff and sharp-tongued, but incredibly kind-hearted like his mother.
- Momma's Boy: According to Mutsuki, he cried for and talked about his mother all night when he went over to Mutsuki's to sleep over during their elementary days. Given his mother is Tohru, this is hardly surprising.
- An Odd Place to Sleep: Sawa first meets him when she accidentally steps on his face because he was taking a nap on the floor.
- Only Sane Man: He's the most level-headed and mature one of his generation, causing him to feel annoyed at the antics of those around him.
- Strong Family Resemblance: He looks identical to his father Kyo, but with his mother Tohru's eye color.
- Student Council President: He's the current president of the student council at Kaibara Municipal High School.
- Team Dad: Sora lampshades that Hajime acts like the responsible dad of the new Sohma generation, much like his mother Tohru acted like the Team Mom to the Sohmas in their youth.
- Vitriolic Best Buds: With Mutsuki. Their closeness and constant banter makes Sawa think they're brothers at first.
Mutsuki Sohma

The son of Yuki and Machi.
- Attractive Bent-Gender: He looks gorgeous in the gothic dress Ayame made for him.
- Curtains Match the Window: He got the silver hair and eye color from his father.
- The Gadfly: His favorite thing is teasing others, especially Hajime.
- Princely Young Man: He inherited his father's princely charm and he's even more of a genuine example thanks to lacking Yuki's emotional baggage.
- Shared Family Quirks: Just like his parents, it's an impossible task for Mutsuki to keep his things organized.
- Shipper on Deck: He seems to support SawaxShiki.
- Strong Family Resemblance: He closely resembles his mother Machi with his father Yuki's hair and eye color.
- Tsurime Eyes: He inherited the sharp eyes from his mother.
- Vitriolic Best Buds: With Hajime. He just loves to annoy Hajime with his teasing, but they're as close as brothers.
Shiki Sohma
Shiki Sohma
The son of Shigure and Akito.
- Curtains Match the Window: He has black hair and eyes.
- Dude Looks Like a Lady: Sawa couldn't tell if Shiki is a boy or a girl at first glance for how cute he is.
- Forgotten First Meeting: He actually met Sawa many years ago, when they were just kids. Sawa's mother had left her all alone in the street for hours and Sawa accidentally slipped from some stairs while waiting for her mother to return. Shiki happened to come across the injured Sawa on his way home and called his father for an ambulance. Afterwards, there were some troubles with Sawa's mother who wanted to use that opportunity to accuse Shiki of pushing Sawa down the stairs and demanded money from his family in compensation. However, Shiki was only worried about Sawa for her abusive family situation and asked the Sohmas at Kaibara Municipal High School to befriend her.
- Likes Older Women: He's all but outright stated to have romantic feelings for Sawa who is three years older than him.
- Mirror Character: Background-wise, he serves one to Tohru Honda. Both of them are the only child who have doting and loving parents who care about their own children, with their mothers used to be aggressive and grumpy as a result of their broken family, but now they have turned over the new leaf thanks to the healthy environment they now lived in. Because of this, both of them had experience with being harassed by their respective families due to their dislike towards their mothers for their reputations (Kyoko Honda for being a delinquent and Akito Sohma for being the Zodiac's God), and they told this right to their faces when they were younger. Nevertheless, both of them still hold their mothers in such high regards despite being aware of how horrible their mothers used to be, and to add it more, their grandfathers are the only ones who didn't ostracize their mothers (Katsuya's father to Kyoko, and Akira Sohma to Akito) and remains kind to them when all of the family members held grudge against them, even though they are sick and not feeling well to defend them from being mistreated.
- Momma's Boy: He loves his mother dearly.
- Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: He got Akito's dark hair and very pale skin. When Sawa first meets him, the first thing she thinks is how beautiful Shiki's face is.
- Sins of Our Fathers: It's shown that Shiki has suffered from harassment and verbal abuse from his grandmother Ren and the Sohma retainers because of his mother's past as the Zodiac's God. Despite of this, Shiki doesn't blame Akito for the cruel words others tell him because the Akito he knows is a good person and mother.
- Strong Family Resemblance: He's the spitting image of his mother Akito.
- Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Shiki is a gentle boy, but also quite reserved and withdrawn. He can only open up and smile around Sawa.
Riku Sohma

The son of Hatsuharu and Isuzu, and the younger twin brother of Sora Sohma.
- Big Little Brother: Sawa is surprised to hear Riku is the younger twin because he's much taller than Sora.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He can come off as a little scary and rude, but is still a good person who watches out for others.
- Polar Opposite Twins: With his twin sister Sora. Riku is very serious, reserved and intimidating, while Sora is cheerful, outspoken, and friendly.
- The Stoic: His facial expression rarely changes.
- Strong Family Resemblance: He looks a lot like his father.
- Theme Twin Naming: Riku is the Japanese word for "land" while his twin sister Sora's name is the Japanese word for "sky".
Sora Sohma

The daughter of Hatsuharu and Isuzu, and the older twin sister of Riku Sohma.
- Big Eater: She really loves eating a lot.
- Cloudcuckoolander: She's an oddball just like her father.
- Cuddle Bug: She likes greeting people by giving them The Glomp.
- The Cutie: Sora is lovable, bubbly, and full of energy.
- The Fashionista: Sora inherited her mother's glamorous fashion sense.
- Girlish Pigtails: She keeps her straight black hair in pigtails as opposed to letting it down like her mother did. It goes perfectly with her bubbly personality.
- Hime Cut: Like her mother, Sora has evenly-cut bangs, cheek-length sidelocks, and long hair to symbolize her high social status.
- Informed Ability: Sora is stated to be a good artist, but we never see her displaying that skill.
- Like Mother, Unlike Daughter: Her personality is the polar opposite of the one her mother had at her age. Isuzu was brooding, antisocial, and abrasive because of the trauma of being abused by her parents. In contrast, Sora is cheerful, sociable, and outgoing thanks to growing up in a good family environment.
- Nice Girl: She's a very social and amicable girl.
- The Nicknamer: She gives cute nicknames to everyone she knows, such as "Rikkun" for her brother Riku, "Sawacchi" for Sawa, "Haa-kun" for Hajime and "Muu-kun" for Mutsuki.
- Polar Opposite Twins: With her twin brother Riku. Sora is cheerful, outspoken, and friendly, while Riku is very serious, reserved and intimidating.
- Shipper on Deck: She tells Sawa to introduce Shiki as her boyfriend to her friends, to Sawa's embarrassment.
- Strong Family Resemblance: She looks nearly identical to her mother.
- Tareme Eyes: Sora has big, round eyes to go with her bubbly personality, unlike her mother's harsh-looking Tsurime Eyes.

- Third-Person Person: Frequently invokes this, as in: "You can call Sora 'Sora'!"
Chizuru Sohma
Chizuru Sohma
The son of Ayame and Mine, as well as the younger brother of Hibika Sohma.
- Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The responsible younger brother to Hibika's foolish older sister. While Hibika randomly decides to go on a trip to Paris, Chizuru must set up his parents' second shop with some help from his relatives and Sawa.
- Gender-Blender Name: Chizuru is an unisex Japanese given name, although it's more common to find girls with that name than boys.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He acts like a short-tempered brat when Sawa first meets him, but Chizuru is a good kid.
- Sibling Yin-Yang: With Hibika. Chizuru is more serious and "normal", in contrast to Hibika who takes after their father in flamboyant personality.
- Strong Family Resemblance: He closely resembles his father Ayame and uncle Yuki.
- Wacky Parent, Serious Child: Completely different from his bombastic and eccentric father, Chizuru is very level-headed and down-to-earth. Chizuru really hates hearing people comment about how "normal" he is next to his father.
Hibika Sohma

The daughter of Ayame and Mine, as well as the older sister of Chizuru Sohma.
- Annoying Younger Sibling: Inverted. Her younger brother Chizuru is annoyed by her antics, much like Yuki was towards Ayame's.
- Bespectacled Cutie: Like her mother, she's a cute girl with glasses.
- Eccentric Fashion Designer: Besides having inherited her parents' passion for costume making, she matches them in eccentricity and like her mother, loves making cute strangers try on her clothes.
- Elegant Gothic Lolita: She dresses in gothic lolita fashion. Given that her mother is a Cosplay Otaku Girl, it's not surprising.
- Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The foolish older sister to Chizuru's responsible younger brother. Hibika makes the spontaneous decision of going on a short vacation to Paris when she should be helping get her parents' new shop ready, leaving the job to Chizuru and their cousin Mutsuki.
- It Runs in the Family: Hibika is bombastic like her father and over-enthusiastic about playing dress up with strangers like her mother.
- Sibling Yin-Yang: With Chizuru. Hibika is loud and eccentric like their father, while Chizuru is similar to their uncle Yuki in that he's more down-to-earth than his older sibling.
- Strong Family Resemblance: She looks almost exactly like her mother.
Mina Sohma

The daughter of Momiji.
- Alliterative Family: Mina's name starts with M like her father Momiji and her aunt Momo.
- But Not Too Foreign: She's at least a quarter German on her father's side.
- Cheerful Child: She's a very kind and lively little girl.
- Curtains Match the Window: She has long blonde hair and yellow eyes.
- The Cutie: She's every bit as adorable and sweet as her father was.
- Girls Love Stuffed Animals: She's sometimes depicted hugging a stuffed rabbit.
- Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: She's girly, adorable, and loves playing baseball.
- Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She has the same blonde hair as her father and shares his cuteness, cheerfulness, and sweetness.
- In-Series Nickname: She asks people to call her "Mii".
- Shipper on Deck: She sends Sawa and Shiki to the aquarium so they can basically have a date.
Kinu Sohma

The daughter of Hatori and Mayuko.
- Cool Big Sis: She acts as a laidback older sister to the younger Sohmas and Sawa.
- Lazy Bum: She spends a lot of time sleeping and would like finding a job that doesn't require much effort.
- Strong Family Resemblance: She has her father Hatori's face, although she got the hair color of her mother Mayuko.
Michi Manabe

The daughter of Komaki and Kakeru Manabe, as well as Mutsuki's cousin. She's a third-year student and has a younger brother.
- Cool Big Sis: Mutsuki thinks of her as a big sister instead of a cousin.
- Strong Family Resemblance: She looks pretty much like her father Kakeru if he was a woman.
Ruriko Kageyama

The daughter of Motoko Minagawa. She's a second-year student and the president of the Sohma Fan Club, dedicated to the worship of all the Sohma family members.
- Family Theme Naming: Like her mother Motoko, Ruriko's name ends in -ko.
- Large Ham: She's just as passionate and bombastic about her adoration for the Sohmas as her mother was about her adoration for Yuki.
- Loony Fan: Ruriko basically worships the Sohma family members like if they were idols. Most of them don't mind her, but at least Hajime is annoyed by her over-enthusiasm.
- Ms. Exposition: She explains to Sawa and the reader about the reputation of the wealthy Sohma family since Sawa had failed to become aware of matters concerning her schoolmates.
- Shading/Colour Dissonance: Same issue as her mother. Ruriko has charcoal hair, but the manga panels give it the same shading as the redheaded Hajime.
- Signature Headgear: She always wears a headband.
- Stalker without a Crush: She's actually called out on acting like a stalker for her obsession with knowing everything about the Sohmas. Unlike her mother who was infatuated with only one Sohma, Ruriko's obsession is more similar to the one a teenage girl would have towards her favorite idol group, and it isn't restricted by one gender.
- Strong Family Resemblance: She looks like her mother, but with somewhat shorter hair.
Rio Mosca

The son of Saki. Unlike his mother, Rio is a normal kid who can't sense electric waves.
- But Not Too Foreign: His mother is Japanese and his father is stated to be a foreigner, though it's unknown what his father's exact ethnicity is.
- Strong Family Resemblance: He takes after his mother and uncle in appearance.

Sawa's mother. A self-centered woman who neglects her daughter.
- Abusive Mom: She's emotionally and verbally abusive towards Sawa.
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She plays nice in front of the apartment manager to create the impression that she's a good and hard-working single mother to an ungrateful daughter who does nothing but worry her. The truth is she's an abusive and neglectful mother who gets kicks out of insulting her daughter and anyone who associates with her.
- Evil Counterpart: She's basically a mean version of Kyoko Honda. Despite being the single mothers to the main protagonists, their personalities and relationships with their own daughters are quite contrasting. Kyoko Honda raised Tohru properly by treating her with familial love, hence why Tohru manages to defrost and comfort others, and even forms a friendship with younger people such as Arisa and Saki. On the other hand, Sawa's mother is the exact opposite of Kyoko's traits. She never treats her daughter well and she's the one responsible for driving Sawa's friends away, as she sabotaged their friendships by throwing a bunch of insults towards them, causing them to cut ties with Sawa. Not that she treats others any better, considering that she accuses Shiki of pushing Sawa down the stairs and uses this as her chance to sue the Sohmas for the money. Their personalities are what shaped the person they are today. Tohru loves her mother and considers her as the most important person in her life, whereas Sawa hates her and finally had enough with her once she found out about what she did to Shiki.
- Greed: When she saw Sawa unconscious from falling down the stairs, her immediate impulse was to blame Shiki for her injuries and wring money out of the Sohmas in court.
- Hate Sink: She's vile, apathetic, and an awful mother who gives nothing but anxiety to her daughter.
- Jerkass: She's a mean-spirited woman who delights in badmouthing younger people, especially her daughter.
- Never My Fault: She drove Sawa's elementary school friends away by insulting them and when Sawa cried about her friends leaving her, she said it was Sawa's fault for "not being the likable type".
- Parental Neglect: She often leaves Sawa all alone to go hang out with her friends and boyfriends.
- Psychopathic Manchild: She has shades of this, being a fully grown woman who gets her kicks by constantly bullying and insulting her teenage daughter and any friends she makes, and has been doing so since Sawa was in elementary school.
- Unnamed Parent: Same as several parents in the series, her actual name isn't mentioned.
