Sidekicks

Sidekicks — also known as Buddies in the Japanese version — are introduced with the release of The Chronos Empire Strikes Back arc in Version 3.0. They act as Assist Characters to the frontline party that can use automatic skill to help the party in combat, and higher rarity Sidekicks also have additional supports such as Aura and Special Action. Sidekicks can be obtained by unlocking 5-star class of playable characters, or they can also be obtained from certain sidequests. Each party can be assigned one main Sidekick and one sub/reserve Sidekick.

    In General
  • Assist Character: What they functionally are in combat. They possess various stats not unlike regular playable characters, but their skillsets are also much more limited.
  • Situational Sword: 4-star Sidekicks and above possess Auras — special buffs or debuffs those will activate when conditions are met. For example, Korobo has area-wide status immunity that will activate only when the terrain is affected by Ground-type field condition, while Mordy's buff will negate AF damage penalty during Time Breakup condition.

5★ Sidekicks

    Korobo
Initially a Mek boy who ran off to Spark Forge in order to obtain a new body so he can be with the noble girl he fell in love with, his new noble-designated body rejected his lightspark and nearly killed him instead. After the party saved his life and freed him from his kill switch — albeit losing his memory in the process, he decided to accompany the party to learn more about what he wants to do now.
  • Ability Required to Proceed: Certain areas of in Hollow Time Layer are inaccessible until the player gets appropriate tools for Korobo to handle it, such as diving underwater or destroying obstacles. Some of them also requires upgraded versions of his tools and consumes one Solid Fuel.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: He is viewed as something of an irregularity among the Meks of Omegapolis, and other Meks children had been told to stay away from him. It is little wonder why he readily joins the party as soon as he is revived.
  • The Cutie: Even without his memories, he is an adorable and excitable robot boy who is always eager to help the party out.
  • Expy: Of Robo from Chrono Trigger to some degree, being a mechanical lifeform that decides to join the party after Ashtear saves him and closely associated with her.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: He lost his memories after being saved by the party due to the damage to his memory functions. However, he seems to retain his feelings for the Robot Girl he fell in love with, although he can't explain it himself.
  • Power Fist: His main tool. In battle, his auto-skill also deals blunt fire-elemental damage.
  • Robot Boy: He is basically one, even if he no longer possess human-like body like the regular Meks.

    Kumos
Initially a lifeless mascot of the KMS Dust City Division, Kumos eventually came to life during Chapter 6 of "Wanderer in the Vortex" due to being given powers by the White Phantom. He becomes a near-constant companion of Yakumo ever since, whether he likes it or not.
  • Abhorrent Admirer: He eventually develops a crush to the Dust Lovers' gang boss and will always try to woo her, much to everyone's chagrin.
  • Blood Knight: He is very trigger-happy and always itching for fight.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Kumos' moral compass is basically For Happiness — but more specifically, Yakumo's happiness. This leads to him enabling some of Yakumo's worse moments such as remorselessly massacring the entire KMS Branch Office in the first loop, but at the same time it also eventually leads him to help Aldo and Nona to stop Yakumo from perpetuating the time loop since he believes that Yakumo won't find a chance for new things — and therefore, a chance for new happiness — if time keeps repeating itself.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: A magic version, but nevertheless applies. He is very loud and excitable — complete with occasional Evil Laugh, and is always more than happy to pick fights and cause mayhem.
  • Dirty Old Man: Despite technically being genderless due to being doll and all, he has the personality of one despite being no more than a few days old. He is not above leering over beautiful women, and one of the things he encourages Yakumo to find his happiness for is women.
  • Floating Limbs: In his combat form, his limbs aren't actually connected to his torso.
  • Mascot: Of KMS, at least for the Dust City Branch, anyway.
  • Odd Friendship and Vitriolic Best Buds: With the antisocial Yakumo, naturally. Kumos is very loud-mouthed and is more than happy to make himself Yakumo's friend... which he cannot stand at all. Nevertheless, they work best around each other.
  • Shapeshifter: He can switch between his usual doll form and his much more menacing-looking battle form, which appears in combat.
  • Talkative Loon: He is something of a Cloud Cuckoo Lander whose line of thought is often incomprehensible — occasionally acting like Yakumo's unwanted child figure and Parental Substitute, and a very talkative one at that.
  • Tulpa: He is basically an effigy born from Yakumo's anger and frustration over his situation, and given life by the White Phantom.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Yakumo. Makes sense, given that he is a manifestation of all of Yakumo's anger and frustration over his life.

    Tetra
A steam-like creature that follows Minalca around.
  • Back from the Dead: Tetra's Charge skill "Reincarnation" fully heals all party members including KO-ed ones.
  • Combat Medic: Able to deal magic-type damage while also healing the party at the same time.
  • The Conscience: Acts as one for Minalca. While not necessarily possessing conventional morality, but in Minalca's character quests, Tetra will always stop Minalca every time she is about to do something she will regret later.
  • Loyal Animal Companion: To Minalca.
  • Soul Eating: Minalca reveals in her character quests that Tetra feeds on the lightspark of the meks, hence why she follows Minalca around since it means she won't have to worry about food.

    Limil
A cat-shaped Purgatorian who is also Crimson Reaper Ilulu's junior. Crimson Reaper Ilulu always refers to him as her little brother, much to his chagrin.
  • Alternate Self: May or may not be one to the regular Ilulu's "boss cat", although in his case, he is Ilulu's junior.
  • Beleaguered Assistant: To Crimson Ilulu. He does care for her, but generally finds her coddling embarrassing, and he occasionally has to clean up the mess caused by her.

     Gunce

     Moke
A peculiar cat-like creature who accompanies Thillelille.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: He sticks with Thillelille because she was the first human to show him affection instead of turning him away because he wasn't like the other cats.
  • Butter Face: Has the body of a fluffy white cat, but his face has a pair of beady black eyes, no nose, and an unusually wide mouth.
  • Undying Loyalty: Towards Thillelille, to the point where he throws himself at a much larger monster again and again to protect her, despite her protests.

4★ Sidekicks

    Mordy
Mordy, or Mordred, is a strange cat-like Mek that inhabits a remote island in the southwestern of Vande Ocean. He is incredibly abrasive and unapproachable, and understanding his reasoning and motivations form a central part of his recruitment quest.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: He was the constant companion of adventurer Loire — who was also the last king of aquatic kingdom Erythule, but they got separated when Aspid attacked the Kingdom and both of them got swallowed by spacetime tear leading to different points in the future. In the end, although history has been corrected and the Kingdom still stands in the present day due to the party's intervention, he and the party never gets reunited with Loire, as Loire finally died not long after he left his final voice log for his friend.
  • Power Fist: His auto-skill deals Earth blunt damage to enemies while also strengthening the party.
  • Verbal Tic: Always interjects his dialogues with "Mrrrr!".

3★ Sidekicks

    Lord Ukulele
A strange reptile-like creature that the party encountered in the lava pond of Vasu Mountains and really likes his drinks. Apparently, he has a relative in Garulea as well inhabiting the Tree of Eternity.
  • Anti-Magic: His auto-skill is basically a weaker and gradual version of NS Cetie's Valor Chant, which weakens the enemies INT and SPD.
  • Serious Business: His favorite Mirth Punch drink is one for him, to the point he attacks the party when it looks like they're about to take it from him.
