* HilariousInHindsight: Sunil, who is of South Asian descent, cosplays as [[Franchise/ScoobyDoo Velma Dinkley]] as part of Georgia's attempt to [[spoiler:win back Jason after he left Shakespeare Soc]]. The real Velma would then get a South Asian RaceLift in [[WesternAnimation/{{Velma}} her namesake adult-oriented reboot]] of the ''Scooby-Doo'' Franchise three years later.

* ToughActToFollow: Notorious for being this to the entire genre. Averted with ''m b v'', which is widely considered as a worthy followup to ''Loveless'', even after [[SequelGap 22 years of waiting]].

** Related to the universe itself - losing your ears and tail. This troper was watching and then it hit her that new non-virgins ''must'' experience some sort of phantom limb syndrome the same as real-life amputees. For people who lose their ears consensually it must not be that bad - but what about those ([[spoiler:like Soubi]]) who were raped? The phantom limb syndrome would only serve as a physical reminder that they were assaulted.

** Raise your hand if you thought Yayoi was a SchoolgirlLesbian for Yuiko, not a dude.

* EarWorm: "To Here Knows When", "Soon"

* HoYay: Ooh boy, where do we start? [[{{Shotacon}} Soubi and Ritsuka]], Soubi and Kio, [[MindRape Soubi and Seimei]], Soubi and Ritsu-sensei (one-sided, admittedly).
** [[EvenTheGuysWantHim Soubi seems to be a bit of a magnet for this, no?]]
** And then let's not forget the male Zeroes who, despite being kids, [[LikeAnOldMarriedCouple act like an old married couple]].
** Nisei towards Seimei. In a ''biiiig'' way.
** Yayoi has a brief moment of this upon meeting Ritsuka for the first time:

* MagnumOpus: For both Music/MyBloodyValentine and ShoeGazing as a whole.

** Soubi too, especially once his backstory comes into play.

* NeedsMoreLove: It's ignored by most [[YaoiFangirl yaoi fangirls]] for its complex story and lack of gratuitous FanService, while it's sometimes snubbed by more serious shonen-ai fans, [[ComplainingAboutShowsYouDontWatch who make assumptions]] based on the {{Shotacon}} and cat ears. To make matters worse, the fanfiction makes the story seem based entirely on {{Shotacon}} and S&M.
** There are [[YaoiFangirl some of us]] out there who gave it a shot and were quite frankly disturbed by certain elements of the story despite enjoying the admittedly tasty, if muted, fanservice and delightfully complex romances.
*** There are also fans who were just as disturbed that aren't in it for the romance, or the romance alone. There are fans who actually enjoy the story and understand that it goes far beyond being a typical romance story. There's a ''reason'' one of its genres is Psychological. The plot of this series wasn't meant for just romance, so people looking for a FanService series are not going to find they're looking for here. That was not its intention. Romance is included, but is not the only focus. The romance also has a powerful habit of tying into the psychology part of it.

* CompleteMonster: Holy CRAP, [[spoiler: Seimei]], you're a shithead. And [[spoiler:Nisei]], you're just as bad.

* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotForKids: The cute art style and fairly non-explicit relationship between Ritsuka and Soubi leads a lot of young teenage girls to read it - often completely missing the point that the series, and in particular Ritsuka and Soubi's relationship, is supposed to be quite disturbing. (After all, Ritsuka is ''twelve years old'', and Soubi is pushing him into a romantic relationship because [[spoiler: Ritsuka's own ''brother'' told him to]].)
** Can tie into MoralDissonance once young fangirls start thinking that a child's relationship with a masochistic pedophile is just adorable.

* CompleteMonster: Holy CRAP, [[spoiler: Seimei]], you're a shithead.
* DieForOurShip: Poor Yuiko. She's constantly bashed for having a crush on Ritsuka, even though she never acts on these feelings. She even encourages Soubi and Ritsuka's relationship from the beginning (earning a SheIsNotMyGirlfriend reaction from Ritsuka). However, she is somehow seen to a threat to their relationship, and fanfiction turns her into a CompleteMonster hellbent on destroying their relationship.
* DracoInLeatherPants: It's hard to find a male character who DOESN'T go through this, but Ritsu, Nisei, and [[spoiler: Seimei]] are the most frequent. While not villainous, Soubi is often stripped of his flaws to become a saint in {{Fanon}}.
** [[spoiler:Semei]] is given this treatment often. [[spoiler: The manga-ka is TELLING the reader he's a psychopath!]]

** It could very well be that the book Seimei recounted so offhandedly in volume 8 was actually [[spoiler: a retelling of what happened to Mikado in volume 10.]]

** The SlutShaming concept in this universe. On the one hand it'd be hard to slut shame someone who still has her ears. On the other anyone without their ears, no matter how they lost them, is now fair game. And the worst types would de-ear the person themselves, whether the person wanted to or not.

* HoYay: Ooh boy, where do we start? [[{{Shotacon}} Soubi and Ristsuka]], Soubi and Kio, [[MindRape Soubi and Seimei]], Soubi and Ritsu-sensei (one-sided, admittedly).

* MindGameShip: Any ship involving [[spoiler:Seimei.]]
** People who ship [[spoiler:Seimei]] and Ritsuka as a normal couple are known to be part of the MisaimedFandom, seen below.

* RonTheDeathEater: Yuiko is a constant victim of this. If she was [[DoubleStandard male]], though, she'd probably be part of an {{OT3}}.
** This has reached such extremes... that a now infamous scanlator team kept calling Yuiko "stupid", "bitch", "slut" and saying "why don't you kill yourself now" ''in their foot notes''.

** Soubi too, especially once his backstory comes into play.
* TeenGenius: Ritsuka's therapist who is 21 or lying about her age.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: The virgins-got-cat-ears thing really could have been used much more. It would have made for some interesting stories, and it would be fun to see how it affected society.

* MisaimedFandom: While Seimei was, in fact, first portrayed in a positive light by [[UnreliableNarrator Ritsuka]] as a caring older brother who is unfairly murdered, he is shown in later chapters to have [[spoiler:faked his own death to avoid his execution.]] ItGetsWorse when it's revealed that he was going to be executed for [[spoiler: being a murderer]]. And to top it all off, he does all of this just to [[spoiler: sadistically test his brother's love for him]]. While this recieved a {{Squick}} reaction from some fans, others loved Seimei even more, making him into, horror of horrors, TheWoobie.

** Soubi too, especially once his backstory comes into play.

** Also, Hitomi-sensei. How could [[HetIsEw that stupid woman]] ever ''dare'' to think Soubi could like her, and Soubi is ''sooooo'' right in humiliating and verbally abusing her, really. (Yeah, he's a BrokenBird and all, but his treatment of Hitomi is ''still'' shitty and very uncalled for.)
*** The first time Soubi meets her, she introduces herself as ''Ritsuka's teacher.'' Due to Minami Ritsu's existence, that is the ''worst'' way she could introduce herself to Soubi. (To be fair, Hitomi truly had ''no'' way to know about that.) Later on in the manga, she is worried about Ritsuka and calls Soubi to find out about Ritsuka. After that the relationship between Soubi and Hitomi becomes far less awful.
*** He also said he was [[BreakHerHeartToSaveHer "stopping Hitomi from falling in love with him before it happened".]] This is notably ''after'' she introduced herself as Ritsuka's teacher and was acting very nervous and withdrawn toward Soubi. He also notably asked for her age, then stated he ''doesn't like people older than him''. It's safe to say he's had his fair share of [[spoiler:teachers enjoying his presence, and certainly does ''not'' want it happening again.]] The Manga DEFINITELY shows the look in his eyes when she says it can't possibly happen (her loving him).
**** It's still not an excuse for him treating her like shit. And certainly NOT one for fangirls to '''cheer for him when he treats her like shit'''. [[DoubleStandard These fangirls would certainly NOT act like that if Hitomi was a guy.]]

** Don't forget Shimonome-sensei. Apparently it's a-okay for Soubi to treat her badly and verbally abuse her, because he's showing the bitch her place for daring to like him!
