Pinky and the Brain, one of the many characters featured on the wildly successful Animaniacs, were among the funniest and most charming of the bunch and clearly the most deserving of their own cartoon. Even though I am only recently realizing that the duo were indeed villains (gasp!), it did nothing to take away from them or the show.
This cartoon was a blessing. It was not only entertaining, clever and well-written, it gave a decent amount Character Development to the duo and not just portraying Pinky as a ditz or the Brain as an Insufferable Genius, but as two-dimensional partners with outside interests other than world domination, families, significant others and even a genuine friendship with one another, vitriolicor otherwise (with the latter also helped by the real-life close friendship of their respective voiceactors.) I could easily watch this cartoon as a grown woman and not get bored just as I did as a preteen girl and would even argue that it's better than the show it was born from (less gratuitous and annoying characters, main protagonists weren't obnoxious jerkasses for no reason, writing was less antagonistic and mean-spirited, especially towards the fans, etc.) Plus that memorable theme song I could sing/hum all day.
Oh, and the less said about this show's own "spin-off", the better.
I'd love to continue gushing, but there's a word-limit to honor. Until next time, though, There's dinky, they're Pinky and the Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain—Narf!
WesternAnimation This is how a spin-off should be done
"Gee, Brain! What d'ya wanna do tonight?" "The same thing I do every night, Pinky: try and win over the audience!"
