I'll get to the point... I really like this game for multiple reasons.
1. Plot. 63 has a plot, which is unheard of in other Mario games. Lethal Lava Land, Kamek's Castle, and Big Boo's Mansion even get SUBPLOTS! And, since we get the awesome mess that is The Meteor of Ultamite Destruction!!!, and the epic finale and Collapsing Lair of the final level, I'd say it's Better Than Canon!
2. Gameplay. 63 combines all the best elements of it's parts, which are 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy. It managed to strike a balance no other Mario game has achieved, that being a 2D game... that is exploration-based like it's 3D equivalent.
3. The. Level. Editor. It's like Mario Maker, over half a decade before Maker, plus you can toy around with many other things. A whole community sprang up around this game, and it was big enough to warrant an Even Better Sequel, Super Mario 127!
