Misses The Point Of Zexal

While this fanfic is rather well written and quite admirable in it's approach, as it goes on and on it became clear to me that the author isn't out to improve on Zexal as he is to make Zexal a carbon Copy of 5ds.

The story denies that false sense of silliness and comedy that made the transition into the story's darker elements so jarring and so good about Zexal. That severe contrast between the sadism of Vector and Number 96, the darkness behind each of the Barian Emperors' backstories, the interesting biblical allegory with the Don Thousand, Eliphas and Yuma with the bright and bubbly attitude of Yuma and teh comedy has been hacked away in exchange for a so called "realistic" War Is Hell setting (By the way, a true depiction of this would have both sides questioning their motives and morality like they did in the canon instead of it being cut and dry with a little Wangst from Merag.) and so called Greyand Gray morality (Which is actually Grey and Black Morality with thw only seeming greiness being Merag's tortures instead of being manpiulated by Don Thousand for his own ends and Nasch not compromising with Yuma despite defeating the Greater Scope Villain while also retaining Eliphas' black traits without giving him anything to make him grey like they did in Zexal.) He also didn't take in the Lucifer aspects of teh Don Thousand and capitalize on them to make him into a Tragic Villain, instead replacing him with an even more generic The Chessmaster without the Don Thosaund's fear factor, Vector's trolling or 96's For the Evulz sadism. Just as well, the Tron family never get their redemption or get acknowledged what had happened to them and making mistakes and later fixing them. Instead, they get shoved to the side because Merag needs more Wangst. She really does complain too much, like she does three times the complaining Nasch did in the original and he had the advantage of being Yuma's rival he eventually befriended but never truely overcame wheres she does not have these interesting qualities.

All in all, all Zexal needed was a bit of a tune up to match the likes of the original Yugioh series, not a nearly complete overhaul liek what happened here/ Good story but piss poor fanfiction.
