I'm guessing they're not going to kill or separate Nick and Judy for the sequel.

Do I knew that? Yes, I did.

Separate? Maybe. Kill? Don't count on it.

For good to the point of hating each other or just briefly?

Briefly if at all. Permanently would constitute a full-fledged Downer Ending, which Disney is probably not going to do in one of their major animated feature films. Unless they found some way to spin it into a Bittersweet Ending, but even then I just don't think they would have the heart to split them up.

Not to mention, regardless of whether it's interpreted as platonic or romantic, their heartwarming relationship is one of the main things people like about the original movie and splitting them up in the sequel would guarantee to piss off all the fans. So even if they wanted to go in a dark direction, I don't think they'd dare do that.

Incidentally, why is this happening here in the discussion page and not on the actual WMG page?.

Reassurance :) I just love happy endings (especially for Nick and Judy) for a person with OCD and autism

Honestly I would be perfectly happy if they didn't make a sequel at all. It would be very hard to do without demolishing the headcanons of large segments of the fandom, and that's no fun. Though they could at least avoid ruling on the platonic vs. romantic issue by focusing on other characters in the same world, and not have Nick & Judy as the primary protagonists.
