Briefly if at all. Permanently would constitute a full-fledged DownerEnding, which Disney is probably not going to do in one of their major animated feature films. Unless they found some way to spin it into a BittersweetEnding, but even then I just don't think they would have the heart to split them up.

Not to mention, regardless of whether it's interpreted as platonic or romantic, their heartwarming relationship is one of the main things people like about the original movie and splitting them up in the sequel would guarantee to piss off ''all'' the fans. So even if they wanted to go in a dark direction, I don't think they'd dare do ''that''.
