"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanHow can we see what Google thinks of us based on our search history?
Do it for science!Google knows me surprisingly well. It doesn't know my age, and screwed up some of my interests. (It assumed that I was into anime, manga, and fishing!) No. Bad Google.
Edited by NonSequiturWalrus Hey, buddy! Want some cake? Me too.Why do the age demographic figures add up to 101%? or is my maths just really bad?
Hide / Show RepliesIt probably has to do with rounding.
I am the Tippy Toe Zombie I like to Limbo Often I fall on people's headsIf it adds up to 101, it must have been rounded wrong at some point.
Optimism is a duty. No, that kind of thing easily happens when figures are rounded and doesn't mean it's wrong. For instance, 10.4% + 10.4% + 79.2% = 100% exactly but the figures would be rounded off as 10, 10, 79 which adds to 99.
Also, Google's profile on me, and probably others, is schizophrenic. Thanks to Google Plus, they have my word that I'm a 20-something single male, but from my search history they're also pretty sure the person who uses my Google account is a 40-something housewife.
Fresh-eyed movie blogHow do they know our gender and age? This troper is a female minor, and doesn't have/ know how to make a trouper page, so how would I have been counted? And who made that thing?!
Hide / Show RepliesYour spot is here: Ohiyesa. Edit away.
"Freedom is not a license for chaos" -Norton Juster's The Dot and the Line: A Romance in Lower MathematicsGoogle knows who visits this site, and the administrator got the information from them a while back. That's how even people who don't have accounts are counted in it.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.This.
"Freedom is not a license for chaos" -Norton Juster's The Dot and the Line: A Romance in Lower MathematicsWhat happened? Why were all of the Troper's names and things deleted? It makes things really confusing...
The usual reason for the deletion of things which others consider of value, I assume. Some psychopathic, pedantic Hollywood Atheist (of the type that infest Wikipedia) made an arbitrary decision, for reasons that exist purely within his or her own head.
Edited by petrus4 Hide / Show RepliesIf I had to guess, I'd say it hit the character limit and started breaking the server.
Couldn't we have just done what we did everywhere else and split this page into groups of letters like, for example:
- Troper Demographics A-E
- Troper Demographics F-J
- Troper Demographics K-O
- Troper Demographics P-T
- Troper Demographics U-Z
...instead of just getting rid of it all?
Edited by FuschlatzOReillyI'm pretty sure that number had to be there whether or not there actually are seniors here
Hmmmmmm. Their math is wrong. I guess that proves that I'm one of the nerds among usXD I didn't know fewer girls come to this site, and I would have thought most of the people would be teenagers do to free time, but I guess not
Hide / Show RepliesI'm not sure exactly how good the Google demographics are...this is just anecdata, but Google actually thinks I'm a 40ish year old man, when I am in fact a 20ish year old woman. I've actually talked this over with a couple of female friends who have also been pegged as guys. So, maybe it's more that a tendency to like TV Tropes dovetails with a list of tendencies Google associates with guys?
How do we provide information to keep these data up-to-date?
Edited by RobinZimm Hide / Show RepliesWhen was this Google Demographics chart tossed up, anyway?
Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold.Question: If we update our data (ie. a birthday), do we move our names to the bottom of the list?
Hide / Show RepliesYou mean "e.g.", and no, there's no reason why you should have to do that.
Incidentally, I forgot to post about this at the time, but last time I updated my entry, according to Microsoft Word's word count, there were precisely 1337 entries on the list. How about that!
