To me that seems more like simply Cannibal Clan being used as a Plot Twist than a subtrope in its own right.
Yeah, this does seem weirdly common to me too, but it does seem like Cannibal Clan is played as a twist/reveal, more often than not. Maybe add a paragraph to the description making mention of the common forms it can take? Nice normal family with a dark secret and inbred monsters living in hiding seem like the main distinction, but that's just off the top of my head.
That would probably cover most times it shows up. I was just wondering since while I was watching an Outside Xtra video it felt like some examples lacked the cohesion/ relation or numbers to be called a clan and fit nicely into Cannibal Clan, like the Red Dead Redemption example or the chef in Prey (2017).
(Video I mentioned: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAWlm9dz2w8 )
Is the idea of someone or a group of someones that seem nice enough but are actually cannibals tropeworthy? I'm emphasizing the seems nice and normal part in particular, since I feel like it appears weirdly often, like the St. John family in The Walking Dead: Season One or the house on Monarch in The Outer Worlds. Maybe a subtrope of Cannibal Clan?
