If the series is finished, then I don't see how it "still could happen". I guess there's the potential for them to make a second season or whatever in the future, but I don't think we should write examples with the assumption that every series will be continued in the future. If it does get a second season, then sure, remove it. But it can stay up there for now.

The series aired from April 1, 2004 to June 17, 2004, so a continuation seems...unlikely.

I re-added the entry with a link to this thread but TV Lubber changed it from "the couple they might have been" to "a couple." The rewrite doesn't illustrate the trope.

And we're officially in edit war territory. You should probably send a PM with a link here.

The trope definition of Fond Memories That Could Have Been is all about a character regretting a closer relationship they might have had with a dying character. Are either of the characters dying?

The trope is described as a Death Trope, although I suppose someone imagining themselves getting together with a past love who they can no longer get for non-death reasons is a trope.

That's a question for Trope Finder, though, and Edit War is a bannable offense even if the edit is technically more correct.

Sure. My question is less "what to do about the Edit War"— that's for the mods to decide— and more "what to do about the example."

I didn't realize it was a Death Trope. What happens is Hikari and Akari have to return to space as a star, separated from everyone on Earth, including their love interests. Hikari's love interest, Takeru, does briefly die, but she's able to give him a new body, and as they separate he has visions of the things he wanted to show her and do with her but never got to.

Also, there's no real indication they'll come back, unless maybe for another mass extinction event.

If the series is over. Then the removal due to "still could happen" is not correct. Therefore it could be readded as a valid example. If not coming back, no indication of coming back, no sequel then the example you put was correct and should be readded. Unless WordOfGod left a glimmer of hope, then the story is done.

^ Except that it's a Death Trope, and from the way lalalei describes it, neither of the characters is dying. So it's invalid, just not for the reason our Edit Warring friend deleted it.

The situation lalalei described reminds me of the ending in La La Land where the two main leads eventually goes separate ways, but occasionally wonders what would happen if they had remain together. Is that entry troped under anything? Maybe we could use that for this scenario as well.

Otherwise, the closest I can think of is Star-Crossed Lovers.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind redefining Fond Memories That Could Have Been to encompass such non-death-related examples and loosen up the requirements that the person imagining "what might have been" has to have been aloof toward the dying person in life. I think the trope is a little narrow as currently defined.

That's outside the scope of an ATT thread though; it would likely require TRS.
