Also a common factor in Artist Disillusionment- Dave Chappelle had this issue when he realized that there were way, way more unironic fans of Uncle Tomfoolery deconstructions than he was comfortable with.
Is there a trope like a reverse of Broken Pedestal where the person on the pedestal is disappointed with the people looking up to him (not necessarily to the point of Your Approval Fills Me with Shame though)?
For instance, the author of a book with a strong political message goes to a convention for the first time, and none of the fans he meets are fans of the book itself: they ask questions about points he thought were obvious or extremely trivial, ask about memetic aspects he knows nothing about, ask for his autograph on the off-chance that he becomes famous in which case a signed book will be more valuable, have only peripheral interests like shipping or Just Here for Godzilla, no one cares about the political message or are outright Rooting for the Empire, etc.
