That's called "Denial".

We can never truly eradicate the coronavirus, but we can suppress its threat like influenza

There's several closely related fallacies in/adjacent to this idea:

  • Confirmation Bias - x is true because it fits with what Bob wants to be true.
  • Bulverism - Alice assumes x is false because Bob wants it to be true
  • Prosecutor's Fallacy Alice rejects any evidence that Bob is right and goes to absurd lengths to discredit any that she can't simply dismiss because she cares more about winning the argument than what the truth is.
  • Appeal to Inherent Nature - x is that they're just predisposed to doing whatever they'd feel bad about.
  • Circular Reasoning - x is true because x is true
  • Original Position Fallacy - Bob is only considering how the situation affects Bob as he would like to imagine the situation. (The classic example being proponents of slavery assuming they would not be the slave)
  • Special Pleading - Bob literally treats "I would feel bad if it wasn't" as a reason X has to be true
  • Subjectivist Fallacy - Bob dismisses objective facts as subjective opinion
  • Tautological Templar - Bob does not feel bad, therefore X must be true
