Yes, we should. Catch-all categories like Web Original are bad.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanOkay, I can understand the point, especially since lots of things that end up in "Web Original" aren't that original and more fan works. However, we'd need to define a bit clearly what folders should be split from it, because there's potentially a lot:
- Blogs
- Let's Play
- Podcasts
- Roleplay
- Web Animation
- Web Videos
And I think we'd still need a "Web Original" anyway for original fictions, other websites, wikis, etc.
Just as a reminder, "New Media" as a folder is depreciated, right? Most of its content goes to Web Original already...
I had forgotten about Media Categories. So, use that as a reference.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanSome of these categories look a tad dated to me. "Other Sites" is frankly problematic a title and should be "Websites". "Myths & Religion" are generally together on most pages. And there's a few other media that ought to be added, like "Arts" or "Theme Parks".
Agreed, but I haven't seen anyone try to start a discussion about expanding those folder categories.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Okay, keeping its own folder is seems like a fine option. Then for consistency sake any thoughts on what it should be called. Personally I think it should be Roleplay, perhaps making a main page and/or a namespace like videogames or literature since there is three different lists that capture these currently. Once we have a standard I don't mind fixing pages as I come across them.
Edited by Rymyll_the_WandererI'm fine with "Roleplay" as a folder title. It is, after all, the namespace name used for this media.
I ask as the folder is inconsistently and under used. First, and while this is not strictly a bad thing by the rules, I've really only seen Dino Attack RPG as the listed example. I looked around and there are other roleplay works pages but most are not crosswicked. The second and main reason I ask is that the folder is not consistently named and some of the given names are a little ambiguous especially as it ends up near or next to the video games folder. Names I've found for the folder from a quick look at the related tab for Dino Attack RPG; Roleplay Biker Babe, Role-Playing Games Apocalypse Wow, Roleplay with an odd space in front of it Dressed to Heal, Role Playing Games Inelegant Blubbering, and I have seen examples under the Web Original folder Holier Than Thou. While I cannot find an example at the moment I am pretty sure I have seen a tab for RPG as well, separate from video games. I would think that these examples would fit better under Web Original. While I don't know that someone should go through and sweep for all of these instances, I know I would probably clean up examples as I saw them putting them into the Web Original folder. At the very least if people think it should remain its own folder, I'd like an idea at a consistent name.
