Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Delete the links and send a PM to the offender(s) if you haven't done so yet.
There should be an Issue Helper message for these cases. Unfortunately, suggestions for new IH messages are ruled out currently due to tech issues.
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300I haven't made any of these links, but I am curious why they aren't allowed?
Health sure is versatile. It's possible to be both light-headed and dim-witted. At the same time, no less.^ Becuase Digital Piracyis Evil
found anther link in Funny.A Centaurs Life
We cannot be seen to endorse illegal content, whether directly or via act of omission, such as letting people post links to it. Delete all of those, and if there is a particular set of tropers doing it, give us their names so action can be taken.

Question on this subject: What about manga series that aren't available in English officially and, thus, only really available due to fan translations such as on the site we're removing links from. Are they still allowed trope pages if the primary/only way to get info on them is through such means?
Edited by sgamer82Since the topic of fan translations is already very problematic due to the ongoing debates on their legality (even considering the "legal until an official localization is announced"), it's best not to give links to them either. We would still have to eventually remove them.
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300Pirated content is not justified by its lack of legal availability, nor are we obligated to give people links to content. Google does exist for a reason.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Deleted the Manga Fox links in the ones I posted, but the problem seems to be fairly widespread. Searching for it brought up 728 links and it was 725 when i searched earlier today.
"Search: Manga Fox About 728 results (0.22 seconds)"
The Protomen enhanced my life.My question wasn't about linking to such sources, but having trope pages for the fan translated works to begin with, since the main sources of information on them falls under "gray area" at best.
Edited by sgamer82As long as a work is legally available in some format for some people, a work article has "verifiability" and is allowed.
Edited by Fighteer "It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Just throwing this out there, but Japanese copyright law is far looser than American law, and a lot of non profit fan sub and fan translations are considered legal parody so long as no money is made off of them, and in many cases the original creators credit those "illegal" translations for boosting their sales.
Also, I can see why you wouldn't want to host links to fan subs/translations to avoid accusations of advocating illegalities, but to my knowledge the burden of proof on its illegality falls on the copyright holder, not on anyone else, so I don't believe any links to that material would cause legal issues for TV Tropes.
Not questioning your decision, it's probably for the best anyway, but just thought that information might be useful.
Edited by GethN7The servers TV Tropes are hosted on are somewhere in California, which puts them in the US and under US copyright law. So that's what we have to go by.
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry Pratchett^^ One should note that Manga Fox and it's ilk are known to make advertising money off the stuff they aggregate, so they would be illegal even going by Japanese law.
Did not know that. Kill It with Fire in that case.
I do want to note one exception to this rule: In discussions in the Image Pickin' forum, scanlations can be linked to in order to show potential image examples if a copy of the licensed manga isn't available to scan/photocopy or an equivalent scene from the anime version (if one exists) can't be found. However, the links should be purged once a decision is made and/or the thread concludes, and it's better to grab the panel(s) in question off the page and upload them to the wiki.
I believe that, some years ago, I'd inquired about the possibility of setting up a project to comb the wiki for instances of scanlation sites...might be something to look into.

Links to MangaFox have been on the rise lately, which isn't allowed.
