... Which is correct because the available tropes are for specific genres and the question was general. Take Noir Episode for example, when a singular episode is done in a film noir style.
So if there's a specific genre the OP had in mind, we could point to a specific trope. Ask a general question, get a general answer.

The generic trope for this is Formula-Breaking Episode. Something Completely Different used to be that trope, but got converted to an index thanks to misuse

Several of Quentin Tarantino's movies are pastiches, for example- an original story, but done in the style of grindhouse horror, or exploitation films, or high westerns...

Whats it called when a tv show does an episode/segment in the style of a different genre (usually an older one)? Is this still considered an homage if it isn't referencing a specific piece?
