Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
I dont know either. It's truly Egregious...lol.
But seriously you should show us the examples you want to remove first. We dont know if they are ZCE.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.Because earlier in the day potholing to words even if they're not examples was common, and "very bad" is very common.
TroperWall / WikiMagic Cleanup^^Take a look at Historical Villain Upgrade example from Oda Nobunaga's folder at Sengoku Basara Oda Clan.
Edited by Bubblepig “What is that? It's The Unknown!”That's a ZCE alright as it doesn't explain how the trope occurs and can be hidden on-sight. Along with many others at Characters.Sengoku Basara Oda Clan.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupOh that certainly is a ZCE.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.It commits three faults: ZCE, writing as if using certain tropes was automatically bad, and trying to shill an example as being particularly bad, when we shouldn't care how it compares to other examples.
Phrases like "a particularly egregious example" were very common in the earliest days of the wiki, before ideas like "Tropes Are Tools" or "saying the example is an example doesn't tell anyone anything" had really sunk in. Another thing common in the early days of the wiki was people making funsies pages on unilateral whims in Main/, because that namespace hadn't been locked down like it is today — Egregious as a page initially came from someone noticing the unusual frequency of this word and deciding to make a joke about it. And then people wicked to it because it was there.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing. It's also an Inherently Funny Word.
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"^I don't know about that. I think it's just people like to use hyperbole, as egregious means "shockingly, outrageously bad."
It's the same bad writing instinct that leads to natter like "-cruelly- subverted" and "averted HARD" and "brutally used in show X." Especially in the early days, but still even now, people like to talk their own examples up, either because they're trying to push a work they like, or because it particularly affected them as viewers and they think that absolutely needs to be conveyed.
There should honestly be a bit about it on pages that describe how to write a good example, and how not to.
yeah it's an old troper catchphrase basically. back when this site focused much more on complaining people latched onto Egregious because i think it's both inherently a fun word to say and because it makes you look smarter and makes your example look more valid
This discussion has gotten too long for ATT and the question regarding why "egregious" is an in-joke has already been answered, so locking.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.
I see it a lot on this website as a ZCE and it even has it's own page Egregious. Why most people love using that word? And should I delete the examples that use it as ZCE?
