Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.

Bump. I know it's been a while since I first posted this, but I'd like some input on this. Especially since many of the character pages for BB and BCS tend to reference each other despite being separated.
Trust no one.I thought it was a case for main characters (obviously Jimmy and his many personas, Gus, Mike) vs minor characters (Huell, Marie etc)?
Except many of these so-called "minor characters" still play important roles in both shows. Having two small separate folders for them instead of one slightly bigger one seems kinda impractical.
Then you have characters like Francesca Liddy, Lydia Rodarte-Quayle, Juan Bolsa and especially Hector Salamanca whose separate folders look like they could make their own character page if you put them together. I know that these are two separate shows, but why separate the troping of characters based on installment if they're part of the same continuity?
Trust no one.Oh I'm on your side, I also think there's a lot of troping as the episodes go by. I'm just assuming the reasoning.
Fair enough.
Trust no one.Character folders normally should only be in the installment they first appear in, unless it was like a cameo at first.
TroperWall / WikiMagic Cleanup^ So would cutting the BCS folders for characters who appeared in BB and moving their tropes to their original BB folder be an acceptable solution in your opinion?
Trust no one.^ To me, yes, if possible.
TroperWall / WikiMagic Cleanup^^^ Key word is "normally". If the character is far more prominent in a later appearance (e.g. Miles O'Brien in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), the merged folder should be under the later appearance.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.^ Are you talking in terms of timeline canon, or in terms of installment release?
Trust no one.Release order.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.Would it be worth maybe merging them into a combined 'franchise' character list, like how we do with the MCU? Then each character would just have one entry.
Just to answer the bit from the OP about why there are separate folders for Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, I believe the original reasoning was that it was set up like that so that people who had seen the former series but not the latter could look up character tropes from Breaking Bad without having Better Call Saul spoiled.
That doesn't add up though, considering Gustavo Fring and Mike Ehrmantraut have their own pages that cover their appearances in both shows.
For the record, I've already started trying to merge some character folders to make it more convenient for viewing, based on suggestions from previous people from this ATT.
Trust no one.Yes, but if you go through the edit histories you can see that the Gus and Mike pages each used to have sub-folders for Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. They got merged shortly before Better Call Saul ended its run, I guess because that's when it was felt reasonable to expect fans to have watched both shows, though if there was a discussion about it I can't seem to find it right now.
I've noticed that there's a little bit of inconsistency with how the Character pages for Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul are handled. On the one hand, you have characters with their separate folders for their appearances in their different shows, but on the other hand, you have entire character pages that reference their appearances in both shows all in one place. Is there a specific reason why that is?
