The TVTropes Trope Finder is where you can come to ask questions like "Do we have this one?" and "What's the trope about...?" Trying to rediscover a long lost show or other medium but need a little help? Head to Media Finder and try your luck there. Want to propose a new trope? You should be over at You Know, That Thing Where.
I know of several games where character corresponds with player number. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Arcade Game 4-player cabinet where you get Leo, Raph, Mikey, or Don depending on position. Same thing on The Simpsons with Marge, Homer, Bart, and Lisa locked to certain positions on the 4-player cabinet. Or the original Metal Slug where 1st player gets Marco and 2nd player gets Tarma.
Then there's Ikaruga where player 1 is always Shinra and player 2 is always Kagari. Even some of the old DanceDance Revolution arcade cabinets would randomly select some character(s) for you, but always a male for player 1 and female for player 2.
Not seeing any trope mentioned on any of those pages though. And for that matter, I don't see any trope for "Character Select Screen", which would be the inverse.
^ That's a bit different, more about the game strongly encouraging you to pick Alice for a given level rather than Bob by making the level very easy with Alice and very hard with Bob.
ohh yeah i see, i'm sorry. i was a bit unclear on that trope's meaning. yeah i'm not really sure what trope applies here then
Hi, I'm looking for a trope where a character select is defined by the player controller or position number: i.e., if the 1P position is a Male character and the 2P position is a Female one, you can only play as the Female character if you start the game in the 2P position. I hope its clear enough, Thanks in advance.
