You can go to Image Pickin' if you want more consensus, but it's not required.

If a page has never had an image (which will of course be the case for a page you just created), adding a new one is free.
It's still a good idea to go through the suggestions thread, but it's not strictly required.
There have been image votes in that thread on TLP drafts in the past, so that is an option available to you.

So, when we're creating a page, we are allowed to pick the page image for it before launching it, yes? Or we still have to go to the image pickin' forum?
