Find a Trope:
openGod Anime
open2 person mirror punch Anime
Two allies punch an opponent at the same time in the same area(usually the stomach) in a mirroring pose for a combo attack.
Always a dramatic finisher and sends the opponent flying.
openThe moon is beautiful Anime
Remarking "the moon is pretty" as a euphemism for "I love you" (found in Japanese media)
opencharacters freefalling in the sky during OP Anime
Title self explanatory, usually a shot of the cast one by one either falling out of the sky or just moving in a forward trajectory in the sky with no ground beneath them
openFantastic Fur Markings Anime
As the title says, markings or fur patterns that are clearly not found in nature, like circles, symbols, or even images.
Edited by ValiranopenLaplace's Demon Anime
Anime/Manga/Light Novel uses Laplace's demon.
As an ability or literally just a demon named Laplace.
openBackground does not appear when there usually is a background Anime
A common thing in anime and manga
2 types I'm looking for:
1. When the background transitions to (usually) white to focus entirely on what is happening in the foreground
2. When the background in a panel is just not there, in a manga where there there usually is. Sometimes used for the reason above, sometimes for better action flow, etc.
openNo Title Anime
Is there a trope for that little head tilt and eye close anime characters do while talking sometimes?
Alice is trying to say something comforting, and while she's talking she closes her eyes and tilts her head to the side a bit. She then continues talking with her eyes closed. Completely unrealistic for everyday conversation, but you see it in anime all the time.
openObscured face of someone hanging Anime
I often see this in many different Japanese media, where the face or upper body of someone who hanged themselves is obscured from the audience. Is there a trope for this?
openAdaptation disliked by pretty much everyone Anime
An adaptation of a work that is met with lukewarm to negative reception by pretty much everyone, from mainstream viewers to fans of the work both internationally and domestically (where the work originated).
Is there a trope like this?
Edited by Henshin4LifeopenGroup of people being friends but keep it a secret from their family Anime
A group of three people are friends but two of their friend group is wary about telling their family about them. They're not criminals or doing anything bad. Their family is just overprotective of them after a traumatic event years ago but they find out anyway soon enough.
openAccidental pervert (pervert revenge mode) gender-inverted Anime
I'm searching for animes and mangas in which the victim of the "accidental pervert" trope or "pervert revenge mode" trope is a girl instead of a boy. I don't care if the other character in the trope is a girl or a boy
Edited by PacocientosasopenShocking start of episode Anime
The start of an episode shows a shocking thing happening(usually before the Opening starts) that will happen later in the episode to hook the audience and we cut back to where the last episode left off.
Something like How We Got Here, but for an episode instead of an entire story.
openYou're Not Special Anime
The villain is revealed to be able to use the same power as the protagonist which negates their advantage/plot armor or is revealed to be able to bypass it or work around their signature ability/technique with an inverted version. Its not just that the antagonist is immune or has an ability which impedes the hero. It must be in direct relation to the hero's ability. This is also seen in reverse where the hero is able to utilize the power of the enemy.
Some examples: Jotaro having the same stand as Dio negating his time stop power advantage, Moriarty being able to pre-calculate a fight just like Sherlock, Beta Ray Bill being able to wield Mjolnir just as Thor can.
Edited by OnyxLycanopenAnimanga adaptation of western property Anime
Is there a trope for when a western show or movie gets adapted into an anime or manga. For example, there is a Space Ghost manga: https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/c890397463
openSlow Shopper Anime
Is there a trope for a person who takes an extremely long time to shop? In this case, it's a character who is very analytical and meticulous, asking a clerk many detailed questions about a product before she deems it worth buying.
openTug of war Anime
Is there a name for the trope where 2 characters do tug of war with another character, like 2 girls pulling the arm of the guy they like. Or when kids pull on an animal they want to play with.
open"Fridging": Tournament Edition Anime
Ok so its the first/second round of a tournament arc. The female lead is slated to fight someone really scary (this could be a rival). The fight happens and it is completely one sided, I mean she is just getting absolutely decimated, it is brutal. The main lead is absolutely livid and makes it to the finals for the sole purpose of "avenging" their friend
This got subverted in a really cool way in My Hero season 2 with the Bakugo v Ururaka fight.
PS: im using fridging really loosely here i dont know if it actually applies to this situation
openCartoonish displays of Strength from characters who dont have that power. Anime
Bob is incredibly physically strong, able to stop even the strongest attacks with little effort.
Alice is Bob's hotheaded friend.
Bob accidentally makes Alice angry, and Alice smashes him into a heap on the floor.
Very prevalent in Anime, most notably FMA or DBZ, where the friends of the super-powered Main Characters can just throw them around like ragdolls when they get mad. But I havent seen a specific trope for this type of thing.
Edited by SeaThePiratesopenCharacter given another's canon power - somewhat wimpy in comparison Anime
Basically, I have one character who was given another's power from canon material. however, said power is too much for the character to handle and leads to her breaking herself using it at full power. Whereas the character who has this originally does the same thing, he has EXTREME pain tolerance and will just keep breaking himself if necessary. The character in the fanfic does NOT have that tolerance, and has consistently gone down after just once in agony.
Further context: Momo Yaoyorozu given One For All. She breaks herself as badly if not worse than Izuku did if she maxes out, but unlike him cannot handle the pain.
I did not feel Adaptational Wimp worked, unless we're allowed to use it in comparison to another character.
